Hardware configuration for Premiere 4 Master Collection

Hello everyone and thanks for your help in advance.  I recently purchased a Toshiba Satellite laptop for my duaghter who is interested in getting started in film editing.  We have a Sony HDR500 which shoots in HD.  The laptop is 2.9 ghz AMD processor, 4 gb memory with 750 gig hard drive.  Display is HD graphic.  So the only thing I think that is missing is multiple hard drives.  However, when trying to edit the imported HD video, the sequence freezes and is virtually impossible to display correctly.  I then used Adobe Media encoder to convert the clips into FLV files.  Whiel the playback in the editing was improved, it still was very broken.  I udnerstand the issues of editing HD video, but I thought the FLV files owuld be lightweight enough to not have problems.  I'm trying to figure out if the hardware is insufficient or if I am doing something else wrong.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

FLV is not an edit file... for your lightweight computer you want Standard Definition

Trying to use only ONE Hard Drive for Video Editing
You are a music conductor, with a baton that you use to point to various parts of the orchestra... this is like Windows pointing to various parts of the hard drive to do Windows housekeeping or to load program segments for various functions
Now, at the same time and with the same hand... while still using the baton to conduct the orchestra... pick up a bow and play a fiddle... this would be doing something with your video file at the same time as all the other work
You as a person cannot do both at the same time with the same hand
A computer is a LITTLE better, in that it can switch from one kind of task to another very quickly... but not quickly enough for easy video editing
One hard drive is not as good as two which is not as good as three

       OS    : Windows 2000
       Browser : IE 6.0
       Excel : 2002 and 2003
.Net Framework version 1.1 is a pre-requisite for the Business Explorer  of SAP NetWeaver 2004s in both the platforms. It's a freeware, which can  be downloaded from the Microsoft site.
Older versions of Microsoft Excel, for example Microsoft Excel 97 and 2000, are not supported. On the browser side Firefox is not supported at present.
Hardware used in this case is Pentium 4, 2.8 GHz,1 GB memory and 40 GB HDD. The Hard disk space and Min and recommended Memory usage for the Business Explorer of SAP NetWeaver 2004s is mentioned below
        HDD Space   : 380 MB

    Hi All,

    Hi Atrsams,
According to your description, you need some hardware recommendations for deploying and maintaining a SQL Server Analysis Services cube, right?
Though this isn't a sizing recommendation, I'd encourage you to buy as much memory as you can afford. This is generally the choke point I've seen on servers, especially when using SSAS. For the detail information about it, please refer to the links below.

  • Hardware requirements for Premiere Pro CS5 .versus Premiere Elements 9 ?

    Hi
I have just started to work in Premiere Elements 9. What should it take to go up one "level" and start using Pro version (CS5) from a hardware performance point of view ?

What KIND of files are you going to edit?
Your system should do OK for DV and HDV but "might" struggle a bit with something like AVCHD due to only 6 gig of ram (I know, saying "only" 6 gig sounds odd, but if you go to the Premiere Pro CS5 Benchmark http://ppbm5.com/ page and review results, you will see that some people have 24 gig)
As far as C drive size, I have Win7 64bit Pro and MS Office full install and CS5 Master Collection and some odds'n'ends, and I only use 50 gig of drive space, with as much as possible in the way of "work" files set to my 2 other drives

  • Optimal Hard Drive Configuration for Premiere Pro CS5 and Pro Tools

I am in the process of upgrading a workstation that is used primarily for multi-track audio recording in Pro Tools to use the following Adobe CS5 products for production of promotional videos in HDV (and AVCHD for the web) as well as printed marketing materials for bands and musicians: Premiere Pro, Encore, Photoshop, Illustrator and Soundbooth.
Since Premiere Pro is probably the most demanding application of the group, I have been studying the suggested hardware configurations on this forum with great interest, particularly HARM's suggestions (including his Generic Guideline for Disk Setup) to determine which hard drives to purchase and the optimal manner in which to configure them.
I am upgrading an HP Z800 with dual quad core 2.44 GhZ processors with hyperthreading (16 virtual cores), 12 GB of memory and an overclocked GeForce GTX 470.  Without setting up a RAID configuration (which I cannot afford at the moment), I would like to use the 4 available HDD bays in the Z800 in the optimal manner for Premier Pro, using currently available drives.  I am currently considering purchasing a 300GB VelociRaptor to use as my C drive because of the extended load times and demands placed on the drive by ProTools and the associated Waves plug-ins.
I would appreciate suggestions to improve my following plan:  C (300GB  WD VelociRaptor) for OS and Programs; D (1 TB WD Black Caviar) for Media and Projects; E (1 250 GB WD Black Caviar) for Pagefile (approx. 18 GB) and Media Cache; and E (2 TB WD Black Caviar) for Previews, Exports and Pro Tools audio files.
I have great respect for the knowledge of the members of this forum and eagerly await your suggestions.
    /Bill

I very much appreciate the responses to my email because I know that all of your time is valuable and that you have chosen to use some of that valuable time to help an unknown individual.  This forum is remarkable because of the wealth of knowledge available and the willingness of so many to assist others.
I now wish to narrow my questions to save you time and so that I can get specific advice.  I may not have not been clear that I have already upgraded to the HP Z800 with dual quad core processors and overclocked GTX 470, primarily for the improved performance it will provide in ProTools.  My question now is how to optimize its performance for Premiere Pro CS5.  Based upon my research, I am considering the following two upgrades, but I am open to other suggestions if they would provide better results at a similar cost
    1. I am considering purchasing a 600GB WD VelociRaptor ( WD6000HLXH) for my C drive on which I would place OS (Windows 7, 64 Bit) and programs in an effort to reduce loading times of large programs.  I have two questions: (1) Are members of the forum seeing a significant improvment in program loading times with the VelociRaptor because I am still not convinced that the price performance of SSD's justifies their use; and (2) There are so many models of VelociRaptors now that I want to be certain that I am purchasing the best version for my needs.  In addition to the usual 10000 RPM speed, this model has 32MB Cache and a 3.5" form factor as well as a SATA 6.0GB/s interface (which I doubt my motherboard can take advantage of but it might extend the useful life of the drive with future configurations).
    2. I currently have available for installation in the Z800 the following drives:  (1) WD 2TB Black Caviar; (1) WD 1TB Black Caviar; (2) Hitachi 1TB.  I believe that the Z800 can accept up to 5 SATA hard drives which I will have if I purchase the Velociraptor.  Although I am reasonably knowledeable when it comes to hardware, I have never set up a RAID configuration.  Therefore, it would be helpful if someone could recommend one of the various RAID configurations and brieflyexplain why it would seem to be best for my needs.  I can then focus my research on understanding that one configuration.
I was planning to follow Scott's suggestion for my current 3 drives:  OS and programs on C (WD 600 GBVelociRaptor), media and projects on D (WD 1TB Black Caviar), export files and Pro Tools files (all live musician tracks, no samples) on E (WD 2TB Black Caviar).  However, I have been reading about the benefits of a RAID configuration so I am interested in further suggestions now that I have clarified my questions.
Thank you all for your help.
    Bill

  • Hardware configuration for 5.5

    Hello Everyone!
    I am a total newbie......
Anyway, I just purchased a new computer.  Although many of you would laugh at what I bought, it was all I could afford.  There are some good things about it and some probably not.  My question is, I bought a 1.5 Tb hard drive (only 1) and I am wondering what is the best configuration for it?  Should I partition it, etc.
As I said, I am a total newb at this and I am just beginning so I will not be making re-editing any motion pictures anytime soon but just taking old 8mm family stuff and working with this as my practice stage.
    Thanks,

A computer is a LITTLE better, in that it can switch from one kind of task to another very quickly... but not quickly enough for EASY video editing
You need AT LEAST two hard drives (separate drives, never a partition http://forums.adobe.com/thread/650708?tstart=0 for more) with Windows (or Mac OS) and software on your boot drive, and video files on a 2nd drive so the boot drive is not slowed down by trying to do everything
I find that the three drives I use work very well for me, for editing AVCHD video... some people use a 4th drive, so video INPUT files are on drive three and all OUTPUT files are on drive four... I only bought a mid-tower case instead of a full tower case (my bad... but had to fit in the space available on my office desk!) so I use the three drives that will fit
Depending on your exact hardware (motherboard brand & model AND USB2 enclosure brand & model AND external hard drive brand & model) AND the type of video file, you may... or may NOT... be able to use an external USB2 hard drive for video editing
Steve Grisetti in the Premiere Elements forum http://forums.adobe.com/thread/856208?tstart=0 and Jim Simon in the Premiere Pro forum http://forums.adobe.com/thread/856433?tstart=0 use USB externals for editing
A USB3 hard drive connected to a motherboard with USB3 is supposed to be fast enough for video editing (I don't have such, so don't know) but eSata DOES have a fast enough data transfer for video editing... I have not used this eSata Dock... for reference only, YMMV and all the usual disclaimers

  • Advice on books for learning CS3 Master Collection

I've been trying to learn as much as I can from tutorials and just basic knowledge from around the web.  I am understanding a little as I go, but am thinking that a book or two might help me as well.  I have several sites that I visit from time to time, so I don't need help on that front.  Can anyone give me some advice on what literature I should buy?  I own the CS3 Master collection, and I'm hoping to learn Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere Pro, Dreamweaver, and maybe other programs related to web design.  I've heard that the bible series is pretty good, but since I'm still considered new I really don't know where to start.  And not sure if this is the place to ask, but as far as web design is concerned, should I also get a book for coding?
Sorry if this is a topic that is asked every five seconds, but I've looked around as much as I could and this was literally my last option.  And in case anyone was wondering, I asking in this forum since every time I start off in one program I usually end up in Photoshop, so I assume people who know Photoshop also know some of the other programs, also I didn't really see a forum best suited for my question.  Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

You would do best to buy individual books for each application.
Some books try to have an overview of several different applications, but they only give the barest amount of information on each one and are basically useless.
Some books like the Bible series are extremely large (Photoshop CS3 over 1,200 pages) but don't assume that more is automatically better.
I think they make some of them big just to impress people looking for an instruction book at their local bookstore.
The Bible and some other books include a CD of images and give step by step instructions using the supplied images.
But they really don't explain how the procedures work and why you would likely using this procedure rather than another.
They basically said, do this, now do that, do another thing, etc.
The Quick Start Guide series by Peachpit Press dispenses with the hand-holding step by step intructions.
It explains how and why to do things and has screenshots on every page to show the menus, tools and procedures of actually using Photoshop.
The Quick Start books just give solid information and are usually much more affordable, which is helpfull if you are buying several books for different applications.
Peachpit Press also has another series of books, their Real World series. These are larger books but without the CD, etc.
Over the last 20 years I've had many different books, but in my estimation the Peachpit books are the best of the bunch. Your mileage may vary.
Since CS3 is rather old, I'm assuming you are looking at Amazon or other online sellers. You might even be able to get some used books through Amazon resellers an a greatly reduced price.
    Good luck.

    HI,
For your home testing you might need a latest technology to get a smooth and fast installation. i7 processor might be the ideal with memory at least 8GB. if you're planning to have more than 3 VMs running at the same time than you need 12-16GB memory at least.
From my experience installing on vm and allocated memory 2.5GB each VM the installation could take 15-30minutes

  • Notebook Specs for Adobe CS5 Master Collection

Hi guys, I am currently in process of buying a new notebook.
I will be running a Adobe CS5 Master Collection and few other programs.
Can you guys let me know what are best specs that this notebook must have?
I know Mac is best option but my company is not willing to get one, they are willing to settle for HP / Dell / etc…
I will need this notebook to handle multiple applications at a time (dreamweaver, illustrator, photoshop, etc etc…).
I dont want the basic specs, what more can i include to get this notebook running like a super machine?
    eg. 8GB Ram, i7 processor?
    What do you guys advise?
    Thank You
    Bradley

I was curious about your experience with CS5 Master Collection, since I purchased the CS4 Master Collection more than a year ago.
I had previously bought the CS3 Master Collection and upgraded.  The original CS3 collection was reasonable to work with because there was a  Disc for each different program.  If you needed to reload a program you could figure it out.  When I upgraded to CS4 which was a decent price, I figured what I would get would be comprehensible in the sense that CS3 was.  What I received was (I believe 5 discs...I don't have them with me) labeled Content
and Applications.  It wasn't long, because of the general 64-bit confusion, that one of the programs (Acrobat Pro) became corrupted.  I wasn't sure which disc or discs to load.  There are absolutely no instructions or anywhere you can go to find them.  Adobe provides nothing for Master Collection
owners, or rather up-graders...try sending an email...good luck.  Try calling...to find out how to load a program?  By the way when I try to load one of the Content discs, I get a message that says my laptop, with all the bells and whistles, and which originally accepted the Master Collection, cannot load the software, whatever that means.  I wrote several emails to Adobe asking for help, I'll even pay for it...no answer.  I also subscribe to the Professional Photographers podcast and Adobe is frequently mentioned as having terrible customer service and having over-priced software.  I'm seriously thinking of alternatives, but everyone uses Photoshop, which you're probably better off buying by itself.  Or, you could wait for another frustrated customer to post his/her complaint to the Adobe Forums.  I don't think the Adobe administrators will let this be posted, but please, be forewarned about the terrible customer service.
