[hardware] Equivalent of Windows platform
Actually, I am really new to unix. And I don't know where else to post my question.
We are currently developing an application whose minimum hardware requirements are:
Pentium III 800MHz Quad Processor
40 or more GB hard disk space
2 GB Memory
That is running on Windows 2000.
We will need to transfer the application to a UNIX environment. But my problem is I do not know the hardware equivalent of the above specifications that has UNIX.
Could you recommend a Compaq or HP hardware that might be appropriate for our requirements.
And also, in your opinion, how difficult or easy would it take a non-unix person like me to move the application from the windows environment to unix.
Thanks. =)
My experience is that a quad PIII is equivalent (perhaps slightly faster) to a quad Ultra Sparc II (I have no Ultra Sparc III experience) from the standpoint raw CPU speed. Solaris boxes tend to give you better I/O speed than typical Intel server boxes, but if you get the right parts (caching raid controllers with 64-bit PCI buses) you can get quite close. The price difference is about 1.5X to 2X, depending on many factors.
Linux or Solaris on Intel may also be a good choice, depending on the hardware vendor support options. Look at IBM hardware as well based on Intel or Power PC architectures running linux or AIX.

Audit Vault Installation problem on windows platform
Hello!
I'm trying to install Audit Vault 10.2.2 on windows platform. The installation procedure is successfull (there are no alerts about errors during installation). The enterprise manager is working at http://localhost:1158/em without any problem.
The installation guide says that audit vault console should work at http://localhost:5700/av, but this site is unreachable.
I tried to find out the problem, so I started avctl show_av_status
The result is:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.Exception: Invalid Oracle JDBC url
at oracle.av.avca.Commandarguments.setOracleProperties (Commandarguments.java:281)
at oracle.av.avca.Commandarguments.processArguments(CommandArguments.java:667)
at oracle.av.avca.Avctl.startCTL(Avctl.java:70)
at oracle.av.avca.Avctl.main(Avctl.java:318)
(avctl start_av results the same problem)
Could you help me to solve this problem? Please!I'd like to help you but it seems to me, from the perspective of the purpose of Audit Vault, that putting a secure repository on top of an insecure operating system is a non sequitur.
Thus all of my installs have been on Oracle Enterprise Linux and I've never seen any installation-related issues such as you are reporting.
If you can I would suggest getting, as they say, "a real operating system."
Performance will improve, hardware utilization will improve, security will improve, and as an additional advantage, this issue will disappear. -
Create a New Realm in OID on windows Platform
Hi
I am trying to create a new realm using the following doc located at
http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe_as_10g/im/realm_mng/realm.htm
but this doc gives instructions about executing shell scripts which is not possible in windows.
I got cygwin(Unix Emulator) but since this is a windows installation some files instead of being shell scripts get converted to bat for example the script searches for ldifmigrator whereas we have only ldifmigrator.bat
Please advice that can we get an equivalent doc for windows 2000 installation of OID
Thanks in Advancedid you ever figure out how to do this? I am having the same problem trying to configure a second realm on Windows Platform with cygwin emulator.
Thanks. -
I want to use microsoft office on my mac. I need it to run on windows platform. Which is better: boot camp or parallels 7 ?
Welcome to Apple Communities
You can install Office for Mac. If you don't want it, Boot Camp uses all the hardware, so it has the best performance for Windows, and Parallels allows you to run Windows in Mac without reboot and without Boot Camp. To use only this, download Parallels -
Why does Adobe Premiere Pro offer more effects for the windows platform than Mac?
Every time I find a cool new effect that I would like to use it seems it is only offered on the windows platform. I am a mac user and wondering why this is.
A lot of that is inertia, though. 3 or 4 years ago, I would have laughed in your face if you'd told me that we were going to move to a PC-based workflow. Then everybody stopped using FCP, Apple refused to update their Pro towers for, like, 3 years, and released a completely redesigned MacPro that has caused us more headaches than it's worth. PPro makes it super easy to bounce projects back and forth between our Macs and PCs. Mainstream computer hardware has become powerful enough that you don't need a professional workstation to edit video and do basic motion graphics. This is totally anecdotal, I realize, but our PCs are every bit as stable (or unstable!) as our Macs, and we've yet to have a single virus on either Mac or PC (mostly because I don't let warez anywhere near our boxes...). At this point, I literally can't think of a single reason to stick with Mac as a platform; if I can put together a $2000 PC that'll perform more-or-less as well as the $3000 MacPro, why would I choose the more expensive option? I guess you could say "ProRes", but I've never really been a fan of ProRes. Besides, DNxHR will be out in a month or two; that'll be the final nail in the ol' ProRes coffin.
I honestly don't mean this to come off as an insult, but I think that in 2014, anyone who tries to tell you that Macs are somehow superior to PCs just doesn't know what they're talking about. Aside from the price, the playing field is pretty level... I hope I don't come off as being an anti-Apple, pro-PC fanboi; I'm just a big fan of rational, informed decisions. -
Running PI on iSeries or Windows platform??
Hi,
We are in the process of purchasing/installing PI 7.1. We are running our ECC6.0 on iSeries and we are now considering what platform to use for the PI. Our server guys are a bit worried that a PI on the iSeries might cause performance problems or the need to purchase additional hardware.
Are there any advantages (or disadvantages) to put the PI on a windows platform when ECC is on iSeries?
best regards,
Glenn KarlssonHi Glenn,
have you done your choice ?
I can say that iSeries is much more stable for SAP Java stack !
Naturally depending on the volume of messages worked by PI ......... and the HW available resouces on your iseries server.
I've bad feedback from my customers with PI on Windows but depends on workload.
You might do a sizing by your IBM partner.
No problems with a mixed landscape windows for PI and iseries for ECC.
Kind Regards

Hi all,
On Windows Platform, encounters error when trying to open an Indesign document in INDD format created from Mac. Error received "Either the file does not exist, you do not have permission, or the file may be in use by other application". I am currently using Adobe Indesign CC 9.2 Trial version.
Kindly advise how can i open this document on windows platform and allows me to edit the document.
Thanks!
With Rgds,
Fiona ChoyNormally there is no problem to open any INDD opening on Windows, when created on the Mac.
But Mac user are often not aware on the naming limitations. A file name must not contain /, \, |, :
It should not contain any extended character, it is not a primary problem but will be, if something links to that file, so avoid also: ÄÖÜäöüß+&
You can use all other non A-Z a-z, 0-9 and - and _
I personally would also recommend to avoid spaces.
This is valid for the INDD file itself but also for all linked content. -

SAP NW 7.0 Java trial version on windows platform
Hi,
I am searching for a SAP NW 7.0 Java trial version on windows platform in the "Downloads" sessions. But I couldn't find it there. Can anybody help me finding this trial version?
Thanks,
KrisHi Kris
Except the trial version, if you have a Sxxxxxxx user in Service Market Place(http://service.sap.com), I would like to recommend
you install the netweaver developer workplace version, which can be installed on your laptop with windows XP, which should
be better than the trial version.
Thanks

How to configure apache for ssl in windows platform
hi all,
can anyone help me expalin how to configure apache for ssl in windows platform.George,
I would take the following 'first steps'
1)Install Apache20 on your Windows machine following the Apache online documentation
http://httpd.apache.org/docs-2.0/misc/tutorials.html
2)Make sure you can 'serve up' static HTML content from your Apache Server
3)Install Weblogic Server per our online documentation
http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs61/install/index.html
4)Also, make sure you can 'serve up' both static and dynamic (e.g., JSP) content
directly from WLS server
5)Once you have both of the above 'sanity' checks attempt to configure a simple
proxy by ppath or mime type via our online documentation
http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs61/adminguide/apache.html#103803

How to compile a form built in forms 10g on windows platform?
Hi All,
I have built a 10g form on my local desktop on windows 7 and compiled/deployed it in apps on linux server.
I need to deploy the same form fmb on oracle apps hosted on windows platform. Please let me know if fmb works fine or not. And also provide how to compile form in windows platform..like frmcmp_batch command
Thanks,
VeenaThe fmb, mmb, and pll files are portable to any platform where Forms can be installed. Every installation that supports running Forms comes with the necessary components to generate the executible files (fmx, mmx, plx). On your Windows machine, if you have the Builder installed, you can generate an FMX using the Builder. If not, you can directly use the compiler. The compiler has a gui option and a command line option. If you do not pass any arguments into the executible (frmcmp.exe) the GUI will start. Alternatively you can generate from the command line (DOS). You may need to set PATH, ORACLE_HOME, TNS_ADMIN, and possibily some others in the DOS shell in order for it to work.
If you have access to MyOracleSupport, refer to the following note:
<blockquote>Moving Forms Applications From One Platform Or Machine To Another (Doc ID 299938.1)</blockquote>
Example:
<blockquote>frmcmp.exe module=myForm module_type=form userid=scott/tiger@orcl compile_all=yes</blockquote>
More options are discussed in the Builder Online help and the compiler help. -

Dear all,
I am a java developer, I'm from cambodia, I don't know how to disabled ctrl+alt+dle on windows platform. can any one helps me to solve this problem. I hope all of you can do it. thanks for your kindness.
Somongkol.chimThere used to be a win32 call for it, so if you want it you'll need to go back to C/C++ and do JNI, provided it is still in the API.

Macbook wont open up to mac platform, goes directly to windows platform
When you turn on macbook it will not allow you to go to mac platform. It goes directly to windows platform.
Even if one never installed bootcamp it should still give the option between the restore to the pure osx vesion
So maybe your option key is damaged in which case you can try connecting an external keyboard -
I have been working on a Linux machine with Labview 6.1, and would like to know if the *.vi files would run on a Windows platform running Labview.
Absolutely. I don't recall that there are any Platform dependent calls in LabVIEW for Linux. Give it a shot, and please post here if you have any problems.
Congratulations for choosing Linux, and LabVIEW for Linux.
I have always been a proponent of platform independent programming, and of Linux/Unix (okay, ANYTHING but Windows...evil, pure evil...). If you develop in Linux, and run in Windows, you are in fact developing a platform independent program (at least, if there are NO platform dependent calls in your program...)
Good luck, and keep us posted.
