Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The error message indicates that a fan motor of your Mac has stopped working (it looks like the right fan).
A fan is not working and this may cause that your Mac gets overheated, that may cause that your Mac turns off automatically after reaching a very high temperature. Make a backup of your files with Time Machine and take the Mac to an Apple Store or reseller to get your computer repaired. Copy the error message and take it with you

You have to take the computer to the Apple store as soon as possible.
Interpretation of these error codes are very difficult.
There is no published info about these codes from Apple.
    Best.

  • Error code 4M0T/4/40000002: Left side -0

My computer screen suddenly wigged out while I was in the middle of surfing the web.  When I restarted it, everything seemed normal until it wigged out again a few seconds after rebooting.  Now When I start my computer the screen just remains gray.  I ran a system hardware test and it came back with the error code: 4M0T/4/40000002: Leftside - 0 .  Does anyone know what this means?

Apple doesn't publish a translator for the codes but, based on what had been posted elsewhere, I'd say your left side cooling fan motor is failing or has failed. The video artifacts are probably due to overheating of the graphics chipset. If the gfx chipset fails, it means an expensive logic board replacement.
To prevent any damage from excess heat, I recommend that you discontinue using the computer until you can get Apple to check it.

  • Appler Hardware test:  " 4M0T/1/40000002-Center_Lower-Front  " Error

Does anyone know what this error means:
    4M0T/1/40000002-Center_Lower-Front
Irun the apple hardware test and that error appears me, how can I fix it?
    Thanks
    Luis

It means the fan motor is not working or not working correctly. Take it in for repair.

  • What is the 4M0T/4/40000002: Exhaust-0  error?

I know that something is wrong with my computer lately because when I try to watch a video, or using skype, or media applications and programs, my computer starts freezing and the pointer moves really slow...I did the hardware test and it said that my computer has the 4M0T/4/40000002: Exhaust-0 error....but what is the problem? does it have relation with the fan or something, because also it gets really hot when I'm trying to watch any video

Also, stop using your mac.  If indeed the fans have died, your mac has little defense against heat and further damage could be done.  Turn it off and don't turn it on again unless told to do so by either a genius at the Apple store, an AASP rep, or a technician at another qualified repair facility.

  • What is 4m0t/4/40000002: exhaust -0 error?  black creen also.

I need help lol... I have this macbook 2012 mid 13 inch and all of a sudden this morning it stopped working... like it turns on the keyboard and everything but the screen doesn't turn on and with a flashlight I can see the screen so it's like the backlights failing. Not the inverter.  What do you guys recommend I should do? Do you think that 4m0t/4/40000002 error is making the screen very low light?  I really need a flash light to see can't see the screen without flashlight. Also, as I was doing this hardware test the macbook was really hot. Like burning my hand.. it was tested while I had the flashlight on.

  • What is this error? - 4M0T/1/40000002 left side_981 error

    HI,
When I ran the Apple Hardware Test this was the error message i got - 4M0T/1/40000002 left side_981. What is this error?
Hoping for an answer to this query.
    Thanks!

It's a failed or failing fan motor. Get it replaced ASAP. Don't use the machine with half its cooling capacity missing or impaired.

  • Pb G4 1.67Ghz running OS 10.4, right side of the screen 2, pixel wide vertical lines, a few days later colors posterized on pics and vid. Vertical lines don't show screen capture, but pics still posterized. Hardware test from disk shows ok.

Right side of screen started showing 2, pixel wide vertical lines. A few day later colors in pics and vid posterized. Vertical lines don't show in screen capture but pics still bad. Ran hardware test from disk, ok, adjusted color in sys prefs, new profiles a bit better but still bad, mpeg worse, jpeg bad. No better in new user account. Now a month later, right side has 8 vert lines and occasionally a slightly darker area in bottom corners for a few seconds. Reset pram, battery plugged into adaptor 99%. I can notice, for a slit second, when the screen saver is on, when I move cursor to get back to desktop, true color of  image can be seen for a flash of a second.

sorry, was in a rush, any suggestions to fix or ideas of what has gone wrong

  • Canon MP490. Right side of paper feeding but not left side therefore creating error paper jam

canonMP490 printer,  Right side of paper feeding into printer but not left side of paper creating paper jam. error paper jam

    Hi kyle,
To try and resolve the issue, please unplug the printer, then follow these steps:
    1.  With a flashlight or other bright light, please check the paper feed area of the printer and verify that there are no paper jams or obstructions in the printer that may be causing the error.
    2.  Look inside of the printer where the inks are located and ensure that there are no obstructions in there that may be causing the print head not to move freely.
    3.  Remove and reseat all of the ink cartridges in the printer.
Once all of these steps have been performed, please plug the printer back in and perform a roller cleaning on the unit by following the steps located at the link below:

    Hope this helps!

  • M1319F MFP printing errors - line on right side of page

I've had HP LaserJet M1319f MFP about 1.5 yrs.   Last week, it began putting a page-length, thin line on right side of every copy. Line is slanted, about 1/4" from the side, and gradually becoming 1/2" from the side at the bottom of an 8 1/2 x 11 pg.  I ran pre-moistened laser printer cleaning paper through, same line on the cleaning paper.  I cleaned the scanner glass inside.  I removed the brand-new genuine HP laser toner cartridge,I cleaned it, reinserted the cartridge, made a copy, same line appeared on paper.  I removed the cartridge and replaced with a new cartridge.  I made a copy, same thin line appeared on copy.  This happens with copies only, not with scans or printouts.

  • There is a vertical line on right side of iphone 4, is it a hardware problem?

I recently bought an iphone 4 at at&t a week ago and I noticed there is a straight vertical line on the right side of the screen that is very thin.  However, the line changes different colors going from purpe, red and blue, and it is also clearly noticable on bright backgrounds or when watching videos or viewing photos.  What is causing this, and if it is a tech problem, should at&t just replace it?
Also, there isn't an Apple store close by anywhere near me.

You have a 1 year warranty.  Take it in to Apple.

  • What is Error: 4MOT/1/40000002:Left_Upper-Front

I just ran the advanced hardware test on my MBP using the first CD. I got the following error 4MOT/1/40000002:Left_Upper-Front. What does it mean?
    Thanks,
    Dmitry

My MBP left side is much hotter then the right side, so i checked fan rpm's by iStat (Widget) and Hardware Monitor. Both progams diagost a fan rotation of 0rpm for the left fan. Some days ago i heard an noise, like a unclean rotating fan, also from the left side.
On "Apple Hardware Test" i get the same error: '4MOT/1/40000002: Left_Upper-Front', calling Apple Care and going to a service provider. After more information, i come back!

  • Disk Utility Reporting Fatal Hardware Error

    Hello all,
I woke up this morning to the flashing folder with a question mark in it on my MacBook. I know that that means the system can't find the OS so I assumed that my hard drive had magically failed overnight. So I turned my computer off and then rebooted and everything loaded properly. I went into Disk Utility and my main hard drive that has OS X on it is highlighted in red and when I click on it, Disk Utility only displays "This drive has reported a fatal hardware error to Disk Utility. If the drive has not failed completely, back up as much data as you can and then replace it with a working drive."
I have noticed EXTREMELY sluggish performance by my computer in these past two days which has required me to force quit programs and force shut down the system more times than I've had to in the whole time I've had this computer. Could this be a side effect of the failing drive?
I'm backing everything up right now, but I'm wondering how accurate Disk Utility is. The drive that I have in here is a non-Apple-installed 250 GB Western Digital that's been in here for nearly a year. Is it possible that the drive is failing beyond repair already? If so, is there any way to see the full extent of the damage and attempt to repair it before I go out and buy a new hard drive to replace it with?
Thanks for all the help and the fast responses!

    yes, it could.

    yes, it's quite possible.

check the SMART status in disk utility as suggested. if it says anything but "verified" it means that the drive is expected to fail completely and you shouldn't try to repair it. If it says "verified" It's possible that reformatting will fix it so you can try that. this will wipe all the data on it so clone it off first as gbullman suggested. BTW, most drives come with manufacturers warranty longer than a year and you should be able to replace the drive. that's what I would recommend.
