Hardware error message in Toast 10

Hello,
Have been getting the following message while trying to burn DVD's in Toast 10.7/Snow Leopard/MacBook Pro, man. date: March 2007:
+"the drive reported an error:+
+Sense Key = HARDEWARE ERROR+
+Sense Code = 0x03+
Any clues as to what might be wrong?......Thanks BC

It was the drive - the lens was dirty. Cleaned it with isoprophanol alchohol on a thin soft cloth wrapped around a credit card - gently inserted a couple of times in the drive slot. Worked like a dream....BC

My iMac 8.1 (10.6.8 ) was slowing down and had recurrent permissions problems, mostly with Java. I backed everything up, and then re-installed from time machine. Now all I get is a black screen which says I need to reboot. Power+D gives me a hardware error message: 4 MOT/1/40000003: HDD-1336 or HDD-1327. When I reboot from the OSX CD and start disc utilities everything checks out OK. When I reload 10.5.2 from the OSX CD everything seems to work OK and no more permissions problems. But then I loose all my email and safari stuff. Anyone have any ideas short of going back to my old PC?

    Hi
Thanks for the help. No point in fooling around with it any more. Will I be able to use it as a monitor if I get a mimi mac?
    Cheers. Don
No unfortunatley it's too old, you are referring to Target Display Mode which became avialble in 2009, your 2008 needs to have the HD replaced. I'd still do that if everything else is OK or you can simply buy a new MM and display or even a new iMac  or an Apple refurbished iMac to save money.

  • Hardware error messages

    Hi,
does it exist an hardware error messages list, which messages can occur in the /var/adm/messages files for different platforms.
Similar to the Solaris Common Messages and Troubleshooting Guide for Solaris messages.
    Thanks in advance

does an hardware error messages list [exist], which messages can occur in the /var/adm/messages files for
different platforms? Similar to the Solaris Common Messages and Troubleshooting Guide for Solaris messages.Since this is a Solaris question, you'd have much better luck asking it in a Solaris forum (try one at http://opensolaris.org/os/discussions/).

  • Boot time "eth0: Hardware Error" message

I reinstalled Arch on my ThinkPad last month after some playing around with FreeBSD. It was running fine for a while, but around the time of the big glibc update it started giving me some error messages about eth0 at startup. I ignored it for a week or so because I normally connect over wireless, but now I've had some time to puzzle over it and I can't figure it out.

When I try to connect with it (using wicd), envision 24 more lines of alternating "irq 46 for MSI/MSI-X" and "eth0: Hardware Error". But I can connect, and I'm using it right now to post this as well as install the latest update. It doesn't seem to cause errors during normal usage.
I Googled a bit and searched the forums but didn't come up with anything that sounded like this issue. "Hardware Error" isn't a very descriptive message.
Edit - forgot to mention, both LEDs on the physical Ethernet port come on and stay on as long as I'm using wireless, but when I connect it to a cable they behave normally.

I still get the irq stuff in my logs, but I've also noticed that it's really difficult to get an IP address from a DHCP server lately. I'm using wicd, by the way. Everything is fine with wireless, it's just connecting via ethernet is finicky.
It seems that after it puts the interface up, it launches dhcpcd but with the odd ethernet hardware it takes 20 or seconds before the ethernet link is established. Since dhcpd has a default timeout of 30 seconds, this eats up dhcpd's time and then it times out early.
    Here's an example from /var/log/everything.log:
    Aug 23 17:19:27 localhost dhcpcd[11183]: version 5.6.0 starting
    Aug 23 17:19:27 localhost dhcpcd[11183]: eth0: waiting for carrier

    Aug 23 17:19:57 localhost dhcpcd[11183]: timed out
As soon as the ethernet link is established ("carrier acquired"), it gets the IP address from the server. Then it checks if the address is in use on the network and appears to reach the 30-second timeout during that process.
I resolved the problem by editing /etc/dhcpcd.conf to increase the timeout by adding this line:
    timeout 60
And here is my log after increasing the timeout:

Aug 23 17:24:46 localhost dhcpcd[11787]: forked to background, child pid 11819
It takes 22 seconds to acquire the ethernet carrier after dhcpcd starts up. Then it needs 8 more seconds before it finishes and forks to background. Having a 30-second timeout is too close, but the 60-second timeout works great.

  • Hardware error message

This is my 1st post, I am recently a convert and came over from the dark side (PC user) so I know very little about troubleshooting issues. I purchased a iMac 3.06 and installed parallel (with Vista) but don't use it much.
Recently my iMac has been locking up and I've had to power off to unlock and then the computer failed several times to boot up. After a lengthy 'white' screen I get a folder icon with a question mark instead of the Apple symbol.
I ran the hardware check 2x's and came up with the same error message.
    '4HDD/11/400004 SATA 0,0'
I suspect it is a hard drive issue but can anybody help.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
If you are having to do what some folks call a hard power down or power off, by pressing and holding the power button until the Mac turns off, this is bad for your HD. Doing this can damage the directory for the data on your HD. Doing this enough times can so mess up your HD that it is unrecoverable for the average consumer.
The folder with a question mark icon means that your Mac has lost track of its startup disk. Restart the Mac while pressing and holding the Option key. This will bring up the startup manager. If your startup disk is still available it should be among the offerings. If not, insert your Restore disc 1, which came with the new Mac, and choose it when it appears. Choose your language and wait for the Installer to appear. In the Utilities menu select Disk Utility. If your startup volume appears in the left pane, highlight it and select First Aid. Select the Repair Disk button. If DU can repair the startup volume it will. If it cannot you may need a more industrial repair utility, such as Disk Warrior.
After DU repairs the startup disk, Quit DU. Again in the Utilities menu select Startup Disk. Select your startup volume and press the Restart button.
After your Mac restarts go to Apps/Utilities/Disk Utility, choose your startup volume and First Aid. This time Repair Disk Permissions.

  • G5 HARDWARE ERROR MESSAGE 2STF/2/3: A UPPER

QUESTION: IS INTERNAL HARDDRIVE SMOKED? Is replacement my only option?
2.5 POWERMAC DUAL PROCESSOR: 6GB RAM/160GB HARDDRIVE. Found system crash on screen, fans running wild and no response to reboot. Reloaded system onto ext. harddrive and disk utility found no internal harddrive. Used Hardware Test CD and got two results. Logic board passed test & ERROR DETECTED on internal harddrive. Thanks...... George OLDGUY in SoCAL.

    hello goerge old guy,
me too by the way. How about reformatting your bad drive completely. You would have to have annother drive for that. either internal or external, but no
USB (won't mount). Having two drives to start from, is anyway basic in today's
computing, don't you think so ? so many drives I had under my finger, worked
    afterwards again, when formatting.

  • Hardware error messages...i

i just started noticing a strange line that will show up in the screen when i move the screen lid back and forth - it goes all different shades of red, green, and blue depending on how it's positioned and if i put a slight bit of pressure pushing the screen straight down.
so, i tried a hardware test. first with RAM that i installed, then with RAM that came with the computer.
I got this message with the first test: 4SNS/1/4000000: TG0D-85.500
    and the second: 4SNS/1/4000000: TG0D-87.000
Any idea what could be going on?

Apple is the keeper of the error codes, but I believe SNS indicates a faulty sensor. You'll need to call Apple to find out exactly what these codes mean and what needs to be done to fix your Mac.
    Good luck!

  • Sense Error Message when trying to burn Dual-Layer DVDs?

    Hey all,
I am trying to burn a dual-layer DVD disc with the internal drive in my MacBook Pro.
I am getting the same error message from Toast each time I try to burn a disc. I get no response from Disk Utility (it just says "waiting for the disc drive") and Finder doesn't recognize the dual-layer disc when I try to burn in Finder.
I've heard that it may be a media issue, so I've tried with every single brand of DVDs that I can get my hands on. So far, I've tried Verbatim, Sony, and Memorex. I can't find any other brands of media, even at Best Buy?
I've heard that it may be a security update that might have caused this issue. System Profiler says that my machine can burn both DVD+R DL and DVD-R DL.
    What is going on?!??

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The two most common suggestions are (a) try other media, which you've done (and Verbatim normally work) and (b) run a DVD Lens Cleaner disc through it to see if some dirt or dust on the lens it causing the problem. If this doesn't fix it then it sounds like a hardware fault and best to let Apple check it out.

  • G5 iMac Optical Drive Error Messages

I'm afraid my optical drive has probably gone bad. I can burn about every third or fourth time on a variety of media. I get the following error messages in
    Toast:
    *The driver reported an error:*
    *Sense Key = MEDIUM ERROR*
    *Sense CODE - 0x73, 0x03*
*Lead-in or Lead-out failed to be written.*
And, the following messages in iTunes:
*The attempt to burn disc failed. An internal error occurred.*
*The attempt to burn disc failed. The device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media.*
Anyone have any clues as to how this may be remedied, short of a call to Applecare?
    Thanks.

Ummm, you could start by posting in one of the iMac hardware forums - this area is for Mail problems.
    Hope someone there can help.

  • Error Message from hardware test

    Hi,
I just recently bought a 1 gb PC2700 SODIMM 200 PIN DDR ram (EDGE TECH) and installed it in my 12"powerbook (1.5Ghz) to replace the original 256mb chip in there.
However, I got several application crashes and decided to run a hardware test and I got an error message for the ram:
    2MEM/2/4:DIMM1/J31
Does any of you know what does it mean? So is the memory bad? WHat should I do? replace the ram with edge tech or it's the compability, edgetech just won't fit on powerbook? But in the description they said it can be used on powerbook though.
    Please help!
    Thank you!

The COMBO update includes all updated items since the original release of 10.6.0, including any security updates and can be used on any previous version. The 10.6.3 update only works on 10.6.2 or 10.6.3. SL = Snow Leopard. Sorry for the confusion, but I've been mucking with SL for over 18 months and forget some don't use that terminology.

  • 'Wi-Fi: Hardware not installed' error message, as if no modem

I am using a MacBook Air 13" late 2013 with Yosemite. I am not at home but have a valid working wifi network available in a University. Suddenly my internal modem is not recognised. What to do?
'Wi-Fi: Hardware not installed'  is the error message as if it is not found.

In some cases, this issue is caused by a hardware fault. A loose connection, a short circuit, or a microscopic break in a solder joint may open and close depending on temperature, making the failure intermittent.
Test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already taken. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. If you can connect to the Internet via Ethernet, Bluetooth, or a USB network device, make sure all available OS X updates are installed. If Wi-Fi is your only means of network access, skip this step.
2.. There are a few reports that the problem was solved by unchecking the box marked
              Wake for Wi-Fi network access
in the Power Adapter tab of the Energy Saver preference pane. I can't confirm.
    3. Reset the NVRAM.
    4. Reset the System Management Controller.
    5. Start up in Recovery mode. In the menu bar of the OS X Utilities screen, there's a Wi-Fi menu. Try to connect. If it works, select Install OS X. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin.
    6. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.

  • Error message when trying to copy a DVD with Roxio Toast v6.1.1

I'm trying to duplicate a DVD I made via Final Cut Pro and DVD Studio Pro by using Toast Titanium ver. 6.1.1.
About 3/4 of the way through the record process, I keep getting the following error message:
"Couldn't complete the last command because there was an I/O error.
    Result code = -36"
Since I made this DVD myself, I don't believe there is any copy protection or region codes embedded.
The DVD has 2.72 GB of material on it.
    Please advise, thanks.

Here are some things to try: Select the DVD in the Toast Copy window and choose Save as Disc Image from the File menu. When that is complete eject the DVD and insert your blank disc, choose the saved disc image with the Image File setting in the Copy window and burn your DVD.
Alternatively, drag the VIDEO_TS folder from the source DVD to your hard drive. Choose DVD-Rom (UDF) as the format in the Toast Data window. Click New Disc. Add your VIDEO_TS folder. Click New Folder and name it AUDIO_TS. Now burn your DVD.

I want to add Narration to my movies. I've watched the Elements Guided Help for Narration, and closely followed their procedure. But when I click the RECORD tab, I get an error message. "Your current audio hardware selection dos not have any input channels." My question, therefore: Do I need to buy an external microphone? I have an HP Pavilion Laptop, running WIndows 8.1. I thought I had a built-in microphone. But ,maybe not. Please help. Also, WHAT KIND of microphone - exactly - should I buy? Thanks for your help.

Go to Edit Menu/Preferences/Audio Hardware and ASIO tab and click on it.
Under the Input tab, make sure that you have your microphone selected.
Please let us know the outcome.
    Thank you.

iTunes randomly stops playing purchases that have previously viewed on the same hardware. It has an error message about HD. How can this issue be resolved?  What information is available besides the "learn more" option that does not deal with the problem?
Many people have the same problem. However, there is little or nothing readily available to users. This problem has existed for two or more years. Does anyone have anything to offer about this disturbing problem?

Thanks for the suggestion kcell. I've tried both versions
9.0.115 and 9.0.124 and both fail with the policy permission error.
I also tried with and without your crossdomain.xml file but
with the same result. It looks like this file is intended for URL
policy, instead of socket policy. Recently Adobe separated the two.
When I run with the files installed on my dev PC, it does
work, which makes sense because the flash player isn't loaded from
    an unknown domain.
I did get one step closer. If a crossdomain.xml in the server
root exists and the socketpolicy file is loaded from the app folder
then the first two warnings disappear. The logs now show:
    OK: Root-level SWF loaded:
    https://192.168.2.5/trunk/myapp.swf
    OK: Policy file accepted: https://192.168.2.5/crossdomain.xml
    OK: Policy file accepted:
    https://192.168.2.5/trunk/socketpolicy.xml
Warning: Timeout on xmlsocket://192.168.2.5:843 (at 3
seconds) while waiting for socket policy file. This should not
    cause any problems, but see
    http://www.adobe.com/go/strict_policy_files
    for an explanation.
Warning: [strict] Ignoring policy file with incorrect syntax:
    xmlsocket://192.168.2.5:993
Error: Request for resource at xmlsocket://192.168.2.5:993 by
requestor from https://192.168.2.5/trunk/myapp.swf is denied due to
    lack of policy file permissions.
Which basically says, everything is okay, but you stay out
    anyway.
PS: I found the XML schema files here:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashplayer/articles/fplayer9_security_02.html
    and the socket policy schema:
    http://www.adobe.com/xml/schemas/PolicyFileSocket.xsd.
UPDATE: When serving up the policy file on port 843 using the
example perl script then the socket connection seems to be accepted
and the connect succeeds. After that flex hangs trying to logon to
    the IMAP server.
