Hardware error: unknown device
I'm getting the following error when I format my DVD in DVDStudioPro:
The recording device reported the hardware error: unknown device 0x03, 0x00.
Has anyone seen this error before?
I tried recreating my project, making a DVD from an old project that I know works, trashing my preferences... I'm using Verbatim DVD+R which are meant to be high quality.
Any advice would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Pam
-R works! Strange though, my burner says it can burn +R and -R DVDs. And I have burnt Maxell DVD+Rs with no problem before, maybe it's just the Verbatim +Rs it doesn't like...
thanks

DVD Burning Error: Unknown device error. (0x73, 0x03.)
I have been trying to burn a home movie using iDVD. I transferred the media successfully to my computer, followed all the steps, and was finally ready to burn the DVD. After waiting almost an hour through the burn process, it spit the DVD back out of my Macbook Pro and gave me the following message.
*Errors were found during the burning process:*
*The recording device reported the media error: Unknown device error. (0x73, 0x03.)*
I don't really know what this means. Was the media corrupt? Or is there a problem with my DVD player? I have supplied my DVD and computer information below. I would appreciate all the help I can get. Thank you in advance!
Courtney

So it's looking like my MacBook Pro's drive is failing?

What should be the problem? There could be a few reasons, a common one is bad DVDs or a burner going bad.

Intel Mini DVD+RW re-burns fail: 4/03/00 Hardware Error, Peripheral device
I can't re-write DVD+RW discs on my Intel Mini. The log says:
Backup: Burn sense: 4/03/00 Hardware Error, Peripheral device write fault
Backup: Burn error: 0x80020022 The device failed to respond properly, unable to recover or retry.
It happends with every Philips 4x DVD+RW I have after first burn. Also the log says it is trying to burn at 47x speed. Could this be why it is so noisy - it spins up like a rocket at 5 second intervals and then the disks can't be ejected.
Backup: Requested burn speed was 47x, actual burn speed is 4x.
Is this a sign of a bug or just an optimistic Backup?I'm 99.99% sure this is an Intel Mini Superdrive problem now. I think it is incompatible with the Philips DVD+RW media. I will try to get new +RW media soon and see if I get joy with other formats.
I have taken the exact same media from the same pack and I can burn > erase FIVE times on the same disk, and not a single problem yet on my PPC G4 mini. I can only dream of doing this cycle once on my Intel Mini.
Intel mini (OS X 10.4.7) has:
Vendor Product Rev
MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-846 FM3J
PPC (OS X Server 10.4.7) mini has:
Vendor Product Rev
MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-845 D8PB
What's more the PPC mini makes almost zero noise, only one burst of quier "roar" near the start of erase. Contrast this to the constantly 5s roaring cycle that makes you raise your voice on the intel mini.
I believe my Intel Mini is either faulty or there is a firmware issue with the drive.
Can somebody else try Philips 4x DVD+RW discs in an Intel Core Duo and report their drive info?
Thanks in advance -

Windows 8.1 Installed now I received a Fatal Device Hardware Error
Windows 8.1 kept popping up to install update. I would refuse it. Then recently it updated itself. After that, i noticed it took a little longer for my laptop to boot. It would show a blue screen for a little bit then it would boot. Yesterday, I received an error (can't remember what it said) needed to restart because of an error. I ran the Hard Disk Test and Quick and then the extensive test. it stops at one sec remaining and noting happens. I did get a fatal device hardware error. Can the update to Windows 8.1 cause this to happen?
This question was solved.

You may be able to find a replacement drive for your notebook from the HP Parts Store.

Error message unknown device error (0x73, 0x03)
I created a project in FCP and prepared to burn it in DVD Studio Pro but when I tried to burn it I got this error message : unknown device error (0x73, 0x03). Does anyone have any brilliant ideas on how to burn this?
What speed disc are you using? That burner will only burn speeds up to 8x for DL. You might also try burning at the slowest possible speed.

I am trying to build and format a project I have completed in DVDSP4. All the files are on an external HD. I have successfully formatted 3 copies of the DVD already of this project, however, I keep getting an error during formatting which says, "unknown device error." Is this possibly related to the data being on the hard drive? If not, what is possibly causing the error.
Thank you in advance. It sounds more like an error with the DVD burner. Maybe slowing down the burn speed will help. But you cannot do this with DVDSP directly. You have to first format a disk image and then use Disk Utility to burn the image. Disk Utility allows you to slow down the burn speed.
To create a disk image in DVDSP, choose your hard drive in the burner popup menu when formating a Project. Instead of burning a DVD, DVDSP will create a disk image.
When you open Disk Utility, the new image should showup in the bottom left column. Select it and click the Burn button. Make sure to choose a burn speed from the pop up menu that is slower than maximum. -
Every time I try and update mu devices from my itunes account I get an error unknown error 9006
every time I try and update mu devices from my itunes account I get an error unknown error 9006
Hey burtonpg,
Thanks for the question. If you are receiving a 9006 error when attempting to update or restore your devices in iTunes, this usually means that there is a conflict with security software on your system:
Resolve specific iTunes update and restore errors
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694
Configure your security software
Check your security software and settings, which can block ports and prevent connection to Apple servers during update and restore.
Common errors: 2, 4, 6, 9, 1000, 1611, 9006, 9807, 9844. Sometimes as a result of this issue, a device might stop responding during the restore process.
Thanks,

Unknown Device Error (0x0C, 0x00.) When trying to Burn
The past few days i've run into problems trying to burn from my Mac Book Pro.
In DVD Studio pro i get the " Unknown Device Error (0x0C, 0x00.)" when I try to burn from the burning on the computer.
I even tried burning from an external Lacie drive and I get the "Unknown Device Error (0x30, 0x05.)
I've cleared up hard drive space i have 5 gigs free. And I've tried restarting many times. I haven't run into problems like this before.Hi
That can be caused by bad quality media. Read here about * about quality media * and try allways to use first quality group.
Besides that, DVDSP is not the best burning software at all. My prefered workflow is * Creating Disc Image in DVDSP * and burning it with Toast or Disk Utility.
Hope that helps !

I am trying to install the NI PCMCIA-GPIB card on an IBM A22m NT2000 laptop. The GPIB V1.7 driver installs properly and recognizes the interface but fails to locate instruments.
The troubleshooter Wizard reports an unknown hardware error that may be due to a resource conflict or configuration error. I checked for hardware conflicts and found none and found no errors in the event viewer.
The Laptop was originally installed with WIN98 and the PCMCIA card worked fine then. After installing NT2000 I uninstalled the GPIB driver and reinstalled it. The card also works properly on another laptop with Win95.Hi Dave,
You should try using the lastest driver for the PCMCIA-GPIB interfaces. This is NI-488.2 2.1. You can find it in the Driver and Updates page.
