Hardware/License Key is Licensing or Maintenance?

Dear gurus,
I have basic question I want to confirm.
Is the ERP license key is based on when you decided to purchase SAP ERP software, and can be requested forever, or is it based on maintenance contract?
What I mean is, when we decided to terminate maintenance contract with SAP, can I request license key, when, for example, one of my server's component has to be replaced, thus changing the hardware key?
Or what happen when we want to migrate to new server because of server end of maintenance life, and we don't have maintenance contract anymore?

Hi,
As per your query this is for one time activity and no need to change. The hardware license key no get from https://websmp107.sap-ag.de/support this site and select key & request button. Secound question if you wants to change your old server to new server then you have to login in SAP and get new hardware license key this is absulately free.
You have to select you new server type like (DEV/QAC/PRD) and get the license key.
In case you have any issued related to this pls revert back.

A few months ago (June 2008), we purchased a license of Master Collection CS3 and two-year maintenance for the University.
We wish now to upgrade to CS4, but Adobe says that we are not eligible (even if we have a license certificate that states exactly the opposite).
I contacted Adobe, and informed us that we should contact our reseller to help us solve this matter. The resseler dont know anything and tell us to call Adobe.
Any help, greatfully appreciate.

I went the other way (PC to Mac) and am still having issues. I have upgraded from one suite to another over the past 10 years or so. Adobe required a license for every upgrade back to my original purchase of the retail version about 10 years ago. I had every serial number but the oldest (which was from Macromedia eons ago) and they said I could not switch platforms licenses. I'm still fighting it.

Has anyone of you come across a scenario where you had already bought licenses for your development environment but after let's say year or two of usage decided on shutting down the development systems? In such a scenario can you stop paying support/maintenance costs for those licenses?

However, if you want to ressurect them, you may have to pay all of the back-maintenance costs for all years where you did not have support.
Your CSR will work with you.
It's even possible to work out a "trade", it all depends on your relationship with your rep.

I tried using TYPE S DISPLAY LIKE E and am setting vim_abort_saving as X and sy-subrc as 4. However, this is also not enabling the fields. In this case, the first 2 fields - key fields are getting enabled but not the required ones. The above snapshot is for the same.
lv_date1 = table1-date1.
   lv_date2 = table1-date2.
   lv_diff = lv_date2 - lv_date1.
   IF lv_diff LT 0.
     CLEAR: lv_err_msg.
     lv_err_msg = text-005.
     MESSAGE lv_err_msg TYPE 'S' DISPLAY LIKE lc_e.
     vim_abort_saving = lc_x.
     sy-subrc = 4.

Validating non key fields in table maintenance generator

I ma using events for table maintenance generator event 05 ,there i want to validate non key fields ......i am throwing error message ....all the non key fields are getting in display mode ...i need them to enable to enter values ....

Hi Shailaja,
Its property of error message, which makes it as non-editable.
You can display either status or info message after validation check.
And finally before saving (before save event) display error message, so that it invalid entries doesnt get saved.

Hardware Test Key Combo? Mountain Lion & Snow Leopard Disc 1

Hi. I have an iMac i7 late 2009 with a fresh/clean install of Mountain Lion. I'd like to check it's hardware. What's the keyboard combo for both Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and Snow Leopard disc 1 (just in case Mountain Lion doesn't have it built-in) and when is the correct timing to press the combo? Should I shut-down (how long before I press ON) or restart?

Unless your Mac has built-in hardware test, you have to use the Original disk that came with the Mac (Snow Leopard Disk 1).
Put the disk in and restart. When you hear the startup tone, hold down the D key.

Hardware Volume key function

I m creating an app that can make/receive calls by using hardware volume button press.
I can see the camera app uses the volume hardware key to take snaps.
Can we develop the app that does overwrite volume key ?
Will it get any issue with approval process ? Is there any app that already in app store that does this kinda behaviour ?

Apparently after a soft reset the issue is no longer present.
I will keep trying it anyway since I have read that other people could not fix it with a soft reset.

Connection with license server failed

Hi, I am having problem connecting with my license server when I am using the DI Server (webservice).
Error encountered:
Error env:Receiver 100000001 Connection with license server failed.
Does anyone know what is the best practice for this configuration? Thanks.

I am having the same problem on one of my development machine. I have installed DI Server and Server Tools on it.
The license manager is working fine.
But when I try to connect to the company object in a web application it just throws the same exception
Error:Receiver 100000001 Connection with license server failed.
To test the port 30000 i changed it to any thing like 1234 and it gave me message "Failed to connect to license server", changing it back to 30000 and connect brings in all the hardware/license keys etc.
Kindly help what you did in your case to get rid of this problem.
Experts you support in this regard will be highly appreciated.

Help Transferring License

Greetings,
I'm having to clean up a mess left by a former co-worker and need to know how to transfer a Server 2012 license. My former co-worker used one of the Server 2012 license keys on a Hyper-V server, which I was told doesn't need one as long as it is solely
used for Hyper-V. Is there a way to transfer that license to a new install of Server 2012 within Hyper-V or am I SOL?

Everything that DarienHawk67 said is true but not the whole story.
The purchase of a single Windows Server Standard 2012 license allows you to run a single physical instance with
only the Hyper-V role enabled and to two instances of Windows Server 2012 Standard Edition on the same physical hardware. You don't need to transfer the license to the guests -- in fact, you can't legally "transfer"
the license to a virtual instance because these are hardware-only licenses. I think the key is what you're after, though.
What key you use depends on the acquisition method -- OEM, retail, volume license. I've only ever worked with volume, and with those licenses I got MAKs that I was able to put into the host and the guests. The best thing to do is contact Microsoft Licensing
if it's volume (http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/) or the reseller that sold you the hardware/licenses.

Purchase new licenses

I am currently in the position to take a closer look at buying new licenses for NOWS SBE, but I have some specific questions. So, currently we are using very recent software: OES 11, GW 2012, ZENworks 11 ... I always renewed the license using the following number 877-001575.
Now I would be in the position to purchase the following: 877-006442. My first question is, are the two licenses compatible? So am I really entitled to 10 users then? Is there way in the NCC, except the order-section, to analyse to how much users I am entitled?
And one more question. Now we are using the standardsupport. The new purchase would be priority. I know, that this is not a good idea, but what, if I would continue just abandon the priority-extras (24/7 SRs) and just use standard support on the system.

This SKU is is a Subscription License. When the subscription period expires, your license is no longer valid.
Note: If your user count remains fairly constant, the TCO for the Subscription License will likely be higher than the conventional license after about four years.
Novell has some general rules that apply to most licenses:
You cannot mix different types of licenses.
You cannot mix different types maintenance.
If you purchase/renew maintenance, it must cover all licenses.
So the answer to your question, according to the Novell pre-sales team who deals with these issues, is: No, they are not compatible. Either all your licenses have to be subscription based or none of them.
If you have questions about entitlement and you are not satisfied with the answers provided by your reseller, feel free to contact Novell Sales or the NCC and discuss it with them. I have found them to be very helpful and willing to answer any questions you may have.
There is one other item that may affect any renewals or additional purchases you may be considering, according to this note from Novell.
Effective August 1, 2011 Novell is making key changes to Maintenance, Subscriptions and Services (Maintenance) renewal practices for Volume License Agreement (VLA) customers worldwide. Under the current VLA program, VLA customers are required to purchase at least twelve months Maintenance with every new license. Maintenance renewal orders are then placed at the expiration of each Maintenance period. As a result this program structure has left VLA customers with the issue of multiple VLA renewal orders, each based on the timing of their initial license purchase.
Under the new program structure, our goal is to simplify renewals for VLA customers by allowing them to pro-rate all renewal Maintenance orders to a single annual renewal date. This allows VLA customers to consolidate all renewal Maintenance purchases into a single renewal order each year. The VLA renewal date has been pre-selected for each customer to coincide with their largest maintenance renewal. Each customer has the option to change their annual renewal date as needed to align with customer budget and order requirements. This request can be made one time by sending a renewal date request change to [email protected].

I had to reformat my hard drive due to an issue and only afterwards found that the recovery cd I made has been scratched past recognition. So, I was looking to reinstall windows 8, but have been unable to find a license key provided with the laptop. So, I was wondering if its somewhere I am not seeing or if the apparently hardware locked key will pop up if I try to reinstall with an appropriate Windows disc. Thanks for the help.

The OS key is injected into the motherboard. If You install from recovery media it is automatically retrieved.

Get system Hardware key

Hi Experts
I need to create some kind of security to don't allow copy and install the application in another machine or system. My team define some rules and now i need to implement.
One of this rule is get the Active Hardware license of CE. If i go to NWA -> Configuration Management -> Licenses, i can see it in Active Hardware Key field.
I need to get this value progamatically.
If is possible get it in some screen of nwa, i know that is possible to get in my module.
Someone know how can i do this?

Hi Marcos,
You can get the Hardware Key using the OS command 'saplicense -get'. I don't know if there's any API that allows you to get this value directly but I guess you can always invoke this OS command programmatically and manipulate the output to get the value.

How do you manage license aquisition?

I'm interested in how other people manage confirming that a valid license is in place for new projects?
Currently our stated policy is that the DBA has to see a copy of the purchase order before performing an install, however this results in the perception that the DBA team is a roadblock standing in the way of progress. It also means we get dragged into endless tedious discussions about how expensive everything is and how we should use postgress/MariaDB/colon delimited flat files etc. instead of oracle. The reason we ask for the PO is because its us that end up producing data for Oracle if/when we get audited and blamed if there are any discrepancies.

In some cases it may be worth to use something else, not Oracle, for some needs. You do not need a nuclear rocket to kill a bird.
However, whoever requests a database that is different from enterprise standard, not supported by DBA department/team, should realize that their will be on their own, ending up without proper enterprise backup, support, maintenance etc.
If they do not have resources for licensing and maintenance, they should plan resources for other ways of support, and should take responsibility for their data integrity.
Of course, all this should be reflected in policies.

Adobe licensing changes

I use Captivate and Presenter for a long time, a lot of years. Then I used Adobe eLearning Suite when Adobe launched it. Last on January 2013, I upgraded my eLearning Suite to Adobe Volume Licensing with 2-year maintenance. Today, I hear that Adobe applications will be available exclusively through Creative Cloud. Not perpetual licenses. Great. Adobe will damage my investment on the fly in the middle of my maintenance period.
So, I bought my license as perpetual with 2-year maintenance till January 2015. Now, I will get one year Creative Cloud subscription (till year 2014), and then what will? Where are my products with perpetual licenses? Is it possible to change license during maintenance in this manner?
Adobe makes a joke? Adobe appreciates my business? Great business for Adobe, I think. To get money for 2 years and to change licensing in next several months. Thank you very much, Adobe!
PS: Adobe Acrobat from eLearning Suite has broken Acrobat Distiller (licensing issue I mentioned in another thread - trial message). So, I paid for 2 years of maintenance... For several months, I cannot use Distiller. From now, I will be without Creative Cloud applications I have prepaided. Beautiful.

If I remember correctly you could at one stage get a 10 user license for
GrouWise. Does this still exist?
I want to try out 2012 by using it for our family email and secondly I
