Hardware load balancing for 9iAS Release 1 (1.0.2.2.2)?
Hello - we are hoping to deploy a Forms 6i application (SungardSCT Internet Native Banner) with on a group of Solaris V490s behind a pair of F5 BigIP 1500s using SSL. Have done several searches and can only find info for 9iAS Rel 2 and 10g. Can anyone point me to information for 1.0.2.2.2 - in particular if we should be using layer 4 or layer 7 load balancing and what the preferred method of maintaining session is?
thanks
Shelly Feran, McGill University
I solved (partially) my problem manually copying from another application server (W2k) the
directory <oracle_home>\806 and all the subdirectory; manually creating the register and manually export and import the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\oracle.
Now Form Server is working but it not coesist with Form Builder that is in a different Oracle Home.
I have to swich from one situation to the other double-clicking on the exported .reg file (one for Form Builder and one for Application Server).
So the problem was only the installer.
Now I have to search to put right value on the registry in order to avoid this manual switch.
Many thanks to the community.!

Load Balancing for Oracle Release 11i
Hi there,
I am trying to find some recommendations on the need for load balancing in the middle tier for a 3 tier Oracle Release 11i implementation. Here are the questions that I have.
1. Is load balancing very common for a 11i implementation ?
2. What are the probable issues that one might encounter if there is no load balancing ?
3. If there is load balancing how many servers are generally used for the same ?
4. Do we only install Forms server on multiple servers or we install WebDB and Apache on all the servers ?
5. Is it true that Web servers are the most likely to be down and thus mandating the use of load balancing ? If that is true, would it be prudent to install Web Server and Form Server on each server m/c and in the process having redundant servers ?
Let me know your thoughts.
Thanks,
- RajI'm in the middle of doing this right now. There is a doc on metalink (233428.1) that details the process. I would highly recommend trying this in dev/test env first. Even though the instructions are very straight forward and not very complicated, I'm still having configuration issues.

Hi,
EBS Release-12.1.3 ,
Apps -2 nodes HA,
Hardware load balancer-F5 in DMZ(Single Entry point for load balancing)
We have chosen HTTP Layer Hardware Load Balancing for persistentant session config
please advice that what kind of changes we need to do at the application level in order to implement Hardware load balancer like,
Can we configure EBS application to run on 443 port ,so as to directly redirect appln url from hardware load balancer to 443 port of EBS application node.
without reverse proxy configuration.
If reverse proxy in DMZ is required then how hardware load balancing will be configure for http layer balancing between nodes.
As we have iSupplier in internet connectivity, please suggest which kind of implementation we can go for.
Thanks
Edited by: user10702579 on 21 Sep, 2012 3:46 AMNot necessarily - it depends on how F5 is configured. As stated, one of the settings on the F5 allows traffic from the client to be addressed to the virtual URL on the F5 using port 443 (https), and the F5 can then direct traffic to the real application servers on the port on which EBS is configured. The return traffic from the application server back to the F5 uses the same EBS port, and when the F5 send the traffic back to the client it can use 443 - so as far as the client is concerned, it looks like the entire application is SSL enabled (using 443).
If this setting is not configured in the F5, then EBS will have to be reconfigured to use 443 throughout.

Doubt on Hardware Load Balancing?
Hi Community,
I think there are two ways to perform the load balancing. One of them is proxy and other one is hardware load balancing.I have know something about the Proxy related Load balancing using Apache, oracle HTTP server and others. My question,I don't know about the single bit of Hardware load balancing,i refer the some sites but it is not benefits for me.So please guide me to configure the hardware load balancing for my cluster..

Lync Server Front End 2 Hardware Load Balancer IP
I currently have the following Setup.
I only have 1 Hardware Load Balanced IP for my Front End Pool.
After running the Lync Planning Tool it actually states that i need 2 Hardware Load Balanced IP, 1 for internal and 1 for external.
My question would be would i be able to configure for mobility and external access with just using 1 Hardware Load Balanced IP?
Because i seem to have problem with connecting to the front end server based on the following scenario.
Without Reverse Proxy Mapping (port 80/443 internet to port 80/443 reverse proxy to port 80/443 lyncpool frontend)
Internal Access (No Issue)
Lync Mobile 2013 App (Can Connect and chat but intermittent connection) *gets disconnected if i access video/audio
Lync Client 2013 Externally (Cannot Connect to Server)
https://meet.domain.com (working)
With Reverse Proxy Mapping (Port 80/443 internet to port 8080/4443 reverse proxy to port 8080/4443 lyncpool frontend)
Internal Access (No Issue)
Lync Mobile 2013 App (Cannot connect)
Lync Client 2013 Externally (Cannot connect)
https://meet.domain.com (Not working)
Would i actually need to have a additional front end pool IP for external access? or can i maintain it as it is?
I do not understand why without the mapping it can work whereas if i do the mapping according to technet article it won't work.
Everything is running windows server 2012 R2 and Lync 2013, Loadbalancer / Reverse Proxy is the same F5 Appliance
Any assistance on this is greatly appreciated.Hi Greg,
I have been making use of it (https://testconnectivity.microsoft.com/) to test my autodiscover and remote
access.
Like i mentioned it is weird that without doing port mapping from 80/443 to 8080/4443 i was able to pass
the autodiscovery and all but once i changed to the proper steps to do port mapping it stopped working.
and im not using TMG but using a F5 Hardware Reverse Proxy which also happen to be my Load Balancing Appliance.
Is there anyone who can help give me more details if i need 2 VIP for the front end ? -
Reverse Proxy and Load Balancer for SMP 2.3 and Agentry Application
Hi Expert,
I'm putting in place a mobile solution composed by SMP 2.3 SPS 4 and SAP ECC 6.0. In the SMP 2.3 I created the agentry server and I have deployed my agentry application.
My SMP/Agentry infrastructure is composed by two servers therefore I need a load balancer for balance the load into the several servers. Furthermore I need to use a reverse proxy in my DMZ zone.
Based on what indicated in the SAP note "1904213 - SAP Mobile Platform Server Release Information" the Apache Reverse Proxy is not supported for Agentry clients. Agentry uses nginx for Reverse Proxy.
I also found the following document How-to-Guide for Reverse Proxy and Load Balancing in SAP Mobile Platform 3.x that explain how to set-up a reverse proxy and load balancer with nginx and apache.
Both the SAP note and the HOW to document are refereed to SMP 3.0 and not to SMP 2.3.
I would know if the NGINX must be used also for SMP 2.3.
Any suggestion/information is appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Adapter Engine Load balancing for Messages HTTP SOA/SOE
Greetings all,
We are currently implementing our SOE/SOA solution utilizing SAP services between a .Net Application. Basically .Net -> PI -> ECC and back.
We are load testing the system and are now experiencing the CI getting overloaded.
We have upped the Thread Count (Thread Manager 350 and System Threads 120) and the Queue thread from 5 to 20.
We are using SOAP with Principal Propagation.
There is a hardware load balancer we are using which can spread the load between multiple application servers. We modified the SLDRegistration host and ports (http/https) in Visual Administrator (SAP XI AF CPA Cache) in the global server node.
In SXI_CACHE Got -> Adapter Engine Cache, it displays http://<sidms>:<port>/MessagingSystem/receive/AFW/XI
Is this where the load balancer should be placed with the port name?
Any help would be appreciated.
ThanksHi Rocco

How can I design Load Balancing for distant Datacenters? without single point of failure
Dear Experts,
We are using the following very old and passive method of redundancy for our cload SaaS but it's time to make it approperiate. Can youplease advise:
Current issues:
1. No load balancing. IP selection is based on primary and secondary IP configurations. If Primary fails to respond, IP record for DNS changes to secondary IP with TTL=1min
2. When primary server fails, it takes around 15 min for clients to access the servers. Way too long!
The target:
A. Activate a load balancing mechanism to utilized the stand-by server.
B. How can the solution be designed to avoid single point of failure? In the previous example, UltraDNS is a single point of failure.
C. If using GSS is the solution, how can it be designed in both server locations (for active redundancy) using ordinary DNS server?
D. How can HSRP, GSS, GSLB, and/or VIP be used? What would be the best solution?
Servers are running ORACLE DB, MS SQL, and tomcat with 2x SAN of 64TB each.Hi Codlick,
the answer is, you cannot (switch to two web dispatchers).
If you want to use two web dispatchers, they need something in front, like a hardware load balancer. This would actually work, as WD know their sessions and sticky servers for those. But remember you always need a single point for the incoming address (ip).
Your problem really is about switchover groups. Both WD need to run in different switchover groups and need to switch to the same third software. I'm not sure if your switchover software can handle this (I'm not even sure if anyone can do this...), as this means the third WD needs to be in two switchover groups at the same time.
Hope this helps,
Regards,

Installing 2 Application server and 1 DB server and load balancing for 11i
Hi,
I need info on how to install and configure load balancing for 11.5.8 on Win2000. The scenario: 1 db server DB, 2 apps/web/forms servers AP1 and AP2. Using rapid install you can only specify one db server A and one form server in multi node installations, right? How do I install the form server on AP2? Can I use the same config.txt? The computer name for AP2 is different.
Thanks & Regards,
JagalI have the very same issue. We want to install 4 web/form servers on a hardware load-balancer and the issue is we can only specify one forms server.
Does anyone know the secret bullet here?
Thanks

Setting up Load Balancing for 11i for Intranet & Internet Access
Our current environment for 11i (11.5.5) is accessed only internally (via Intranet). We need to allow outside access (via Internet) also for self-service apps (ie. HR). Oracle Support/Metalink has stated that Load Balancing (note 148155.1) is the only supported method to have multiple (Apps Servers) systems access a single database. Could I get feedback from anyone who has implemented Load Balancing for 11i? Additionally if someone has implemented this for both intranet and internet access how has your company setup? Do the secondary server(s) from the Load Balancing note reside in the DMZ? And thus the primary app server and database reside inside the firewall? Thanks....
Hi,
We are using 6 middle tiers for internal access for intranet access and 2 middle tiers in External DMZ with only web server running for Extrenal Access over Internet for Self Service.
You Implement one Load Balancer for first 6 internal Middle Tiers with site level profiles pointing to Internal .
You implement second Load balancer for external 2 middle tiers with server level profile options for these two servers pointing to External Load balancer .
To check how to implement load balancer vsiit

Wait for my next post in above blog site with step by step procedure to implement above solution External & Internal one

DNS load balancing for Enterprise serevrs
Hi All
In my test Lync 2010 Enterprise environments, recently i have implemented the DNS load balancing with webservices
My environment is two lync 2010 ent servers , 1 SQL server, 1 Monitoring + Archive server (Same Box)
The below steps was performed from me for DNS load balancing.
PLEASE NOTE: NO HARDWARE LOAD BALANCING IN MY SETUP
Create a Host record for the Pool name with respective front end servers
Pool name : Pool2.doitnow.com with 2 lync 2010 enterprise servers named lyncfe01n.doitnow.com (192.168.1.5) and lyncfe02.doitnow.com (192.168.1.6)
Two host A records in DNS as POOl2 with IP of 192.168.15 and 192.168.1.6
1. From the Lync Server 2010 program group, open Topology Builder.
2. From the console tree, expand the Enterprise Edition Front End pools node.
3. Right-click the pool, click Edit Properties, and then click
Web Services.
4. Below Internal web services, select the Override FQDN check box.
5. Type the pool FQDN that resolves to the physical IP addresses of the servers in the pool. in
(my case it is Pool2.doitnow.com )
6. Below External web services, type the external pool FQDN that resolves to the virtual IP addresses of the pool, and then click
OK. ((my case it is Pool2.doitnow.com ) - is that REQUIRED ?
7. From the console tree, select Lync Server 2010 , and then in the
Actions pane, click Publish Topology.
IS THERE ANY THING TO BE DONE APART fROM ABOVE POINTS
Now
what i did is. in lyncfe01n.doitnow.com - i have disabled the network card and try to login lync 2010 client , but not succeesfull
my assumption is, it should work via lyncfe02.doitnow.com, since load balanace in DNS is in already in place
do i need to open / firewall rule to be creany port in second lync server
here is the below seqeunce of event viwer from lync

Network load balancer for Agentry applications
Hi Expert,
I'm going to implement a SAP Mobile Platform solution that will use an agentry application and I need some clarification about the HA configuration and the usage of the network load balancer and relay server. Just for information I'm going to use SMP 2.3 SP4.
My understanding is that Relay server is a reverse proxy and load balancer for SMP but It can't be used for the agentry applications. Is this correct?
Based on the standard configuration in order to balance the load of the client devices in the SMP cluster I have to use a Network load balancer, therefore the technical architecture of my solution should be the following:
|Agentry Client device| ----> | Network Load Balancer | ----> | SMP and Agentry Cluster| -----> |Back end systems|
Is this correct? I didn't find specifications about the Network load balancer.. Is there a list of the Network load balancer products supported from SAP for agentry application. Is there any best practice on the network load balancer?
Thank you in advance for you collaboration.

The key part needed for the load balancer for Agentry 6.0.x and SMP 2.3 (not SMP 3) that it is set to TCP Pass through.

Coyotepoint E350 and OracleAs 10g Hardware Load Balancing SSL
Hi:
Has anyone been successful using a CoyotePoint E350 with XCEL SSL accelerator card and OracleAS 10g with SSL to hardware load balance an HTTPS site? You're on the right track adding the SSL certificate to the Load Balancer. I'm not really sure what you mean 'without the use of Webcache'? However, if I had the choise, I'd always add the certificate to the Load Balancer.
A good document setting up a load balanced environment is the Enterprise Deployment Guide. Chapter 8 describes the tasks for a Forms environment.

Hadrware load balancing for WLS 5.1
Rather than using the proxy plug-in to determine which server to dispatch a request to in case of failover, I would like to use hardware load balancer. So on normal conditions, the load-balancer would look at the primary server in the cookie and route the request accordingly. If it gets no response, it would reexamine the cookie and forward the request to the secondary server holding the state.
Has anybody done this? Which hardware load balancer were you using? Is there a definitive spec for the weblogic cookie so that we can try configuring the load balancer? (in the BEA docs I can only find info about the position of the primary server in the cookie).
Thanks, Matt

Hardware Load Balancing Tuxedo
In a PeopleSoft scenario, can i use a hardware load balancer to scale out multiple PeopleSoft app servers on the JOLT port?
In theory, i think i should be able to , but for some reason it does not work.
Thanks
AlokHi Alok,
At the moment, we don't certify load balancers with Tuxedo, although I'm not sure why you are encountering errors using a hardware load balancer. I know other customers are using them successfully. Which load balancer are you using and how do you have it configured?
