Hardware Monitoring using SCOM 2007R2

 Hi All,
We have a requirement to monitor hardware (Dell,HP) in our SCOM 2007 R2 environment. Also we have to make sure that the hardware monitoring group should only view the hardware related alerts  and no alerts related to OS.
I believe that Hardware monitoring is based on the operating system and those OS alerts may be related to the Hardware related alerts.
I want to clarify myself is my point of stand that  can I restrict users from viewing OS related alerts when I provide access to the hardware monitoring group.
Thanks
raj

You can download and install Hardware Management pack for Dell and HP to monitor Hardware servers using below link
http://opsmgr.wordpress.com/2007/06/30/hardware-monitoring-with-scom-07/
And for operating system you can import management pack related to your o.s using below link
http://blogs.technet.com/b/mazenahmed/archive/2011/11/30/download-windows-server-operating-system-management-pack-for-operations-manager-2007.aspx
So that you can separate between users who viewing alerts of Hardware and users who viewing alerts of OS

  • SQL Server 2012 AlwaysON Monitoring using SCOM

    Team,
We have SCOM deployed and is serving as a monitoring solution for our SQL Estate. However I want some pointers to monitor the health of DBs within Avaialibility Group like DB Sync, log queue etc. Please direct me with the AlwaysOn health parameters that
    can be monitored by SCOM.
I have confirmed with SCOM admin that we have the latest management pack installed for SQL 2012 and currently its getting monitored. However we are not seeing any alerts though.
    Your inputs are highly appreciated.

  • Sun Hardware Monitoring using HP OVO

    Hello,
I want to monitor the SUN Hardware monitoring in HP OVO, e.g. HDD failure, Ram Failure,NIC failure, etc...
Can anyone assist me how to gather this informtion from SUN system and monitor in HP OVO,
    Appriciate for your quick response.
    Thanks,
    Equbal

    Hi Equbal,
Sun Management Center 4.0 is the best tool out there for hardware monitoring of your Sun Hardware. SunMC has predefined thresholds set for all the monitored components. It is also the only tool that would give you a graphical view of your Sun hardware and pointing out the components that are in a faulty state.
To send traps from Sun Management Center (SunMC) to HP OpenView, you will need 2 products from Halcyon Monitoring Solutions: PrimeAlert EventAction and Adapter for HP OpenView:

  • General hardware monitoring on SCOM 2012 R2

Hello everybody. Sorry for maybe common question, i'm absolutely newbie in SCOM. I'm standing at task of monitoring basic servers counters - Memory utilization, disk free space & CPU utilization. After reading some articles about SCOM architecture I
get a little frustrated - cannot get full understanding about monitoring mechanisms. What I want from my monitors:
    - Monitor 2,3...N groups of servers with _different_ disk free space thresholds and sending alerts (email) to specific people.
I've already have imported management pack for Windows OS, configure channels & subscribers.
I get a lot of question trying to configure such monitoring, maybe you can help me (or send me to manuals)
    1. I can use monitor's for specific OS (i.e. logical disk free space), then I need to override it(why? I can't use it?) and select servers.
    2. How can I map a group of servers to monitor?
    3. Do I need rules?
    4. New monitor sets in installed agents automatically?
Cannot understand steps, in which I should resolve my task..

    1. Windows OS management pack has default monitor for disk free space and CPU utilization. If you 2,3,...N groups of servers with different disk free space thresholds, you should create Groups which contains the required servers and using override with target
    of the gorups.
For how to create an override, pls. refer
    http://jimmoldenhauer.blogspot.hk/2012/11/scom-2012-creating-overides.html
    2. The target of the monitor is set to the groups of server
    3. It depend on situation
Rules do not affect the health state of the target object. They are used for one of three functions
    a) Alerting Rules
Alerting rules create an alert when a particular event is detected. This can be any of the different kinds of events shown in Data Sources. Alerting rules do not affect health state.
    b) Collection Rules
Collection rules collect events or performance data to the Operations Manager database and data warehouse. They do not create alerts or set health state.
Collection rules can use each of the data sources shown in Data Sources. The data will be converted to either an event or to performance data depending on the particular kind of collection rule you are creating. For some wizards, you will need to provide
the specific information from the data source that will be used for different properties of the data being collected.
    c) Command Rules
Command rules will run a script or command on a schedule. They do not create alerts or collect any data.
    4) All agents will automatic download updated its monitor and rule which applicable to the server.

  • Office 365 Monitoring using SCOM 2012 R2

    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=43708
We have imported MP for O365 and added the new subscription (with Global Administrator permissions using Office 365 admin )after that we got an alert like below:
     Connection to EndPoint Service failed
Any idea what would be the issue here?
    Sengo

    Hi,
It's the correct page response "EndPoint not found", if you try to access the  https://office365servicehealthcommunications.cloudapp.net/shdtenantcommunications.svc
    page.
The blank username and passwords are Ok as well, but be careful to edit your credentials from the subscription page, as they are not changed in this case in the Office365 Run As Account, looks like a bug. Therefore, edit them only through
the Accounts menu, or create a new subscription.
The management pack communicates exactly to the mentioned above page only, it's not possible to use IPs, as they could be changed at MS servers side. The host should be whitelisted in case if you have firewalls\proxy. At the same time, depending
on your network\proxy\subscription configurations, possible issues could exist because of certificates and authorization at different levels.
In case of proxy - the Office 365 Proxy Run As Account should be configured. It's automatically created during installation of MP, but the account with Internet access should be added there. Take in attention that using the Office365 Run As
Account does not work out. Therefore the separate Windows account should be created and used as the Office 365 Proxy Run As Account, even if it's the same as the Office365 Run As Account. When using the proxy account, one of the Monitoringhost.exe
processes works under this account. If the proxy account is not configured, this process works under the system account. The proxy account was not documented in Office365 MP manual.
Don't change the default name of created Office 365 Run As accounts, somehow it affects the connection monitor.
    Hope it helps :)
    Natalya
    Hi Natalya,
Thanks for this post. Indeed my SCOM server is behind a proxy. Let's say my Office 365 account is called "SCOM.O365" - it appears under Administration - Accounts under Basic Authentication, with the "friendly" name of "Office 365
Run As Account_xxxxx". Do you mean I create a second account under "Windows" (it would be Active Directory based) also called "SCOM.O365" that the MP will use for proxy, and the MP will automatically run MonitoringHost.exe with this
    AD account?
    thanks!

  • Office 365 monitoring using SCOM

Looks MS has released MP for office 365 , Did any one imported and configured alert ?
What are the pre-request to configure alert ?
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=43708

This MP is a little annoying as you'll get a critical alert for any Resolved Incident entries still showing on the Microsoft O365 status pages. Until Microsoft expire these entries off from their side, you're stuck with the alert. If you manually close
the alert, it gets recreated as it's still present on the O365 side.
This means you're left with a bunch of unnecessary critical alerts clogging up your Active Alerts, such as:
Resolved Incident EX8319: False positive for Exchange Online (ServiceRestored)
Resolved Incident EX8318: False positive for Exchange Online (ServiceRestored)
Resolved Incident EX8312: Post-incident report published for Exchange Online (ServiceRestored)
Resolved Incident EX8267: Post-incident report published for Exchange Online (ServiceRestored)
Resolved Incident LY7139: False positive for Lync Online (FalsePositive)
Active Incident SP9188: False positive for SharePoint Online (ExtendedRecovery)
Active Incident SP9208: Extended recovery for SharePoint Online (ExtendedRecovery)
Active Incident SP9187: Service restored for SharePoint Online (ExtendedRecovery)
Active Incident SP8367: Service restored for SharePoint Online (ExtendedRecovery)
Resolved Incident IS9202: Service restored for Identity Service (ServiceRestored)
Resolved Incident MO9196: Service restored for Office 365 Portal (ServiceRestored)
Resolved Incident FO8317: Post-incident report published for Exchange Online Protection (PIRPublished)
Resolved Incident MO8285: Service restored for Office 365 Portal (ServiceRestored)
Resolved Incident MO8287: Post-incident report published for Office 365 Portal (ServiceRestored)
Resolved Incident EX8268: False positive for Exchange Online (ServiceRestored)
Resolved Incident MO8253: Service restored for Office 365 Portal (ServiceRestored)
Resolved Incident MO8370: Post-incident report published for Office 365 Portal (ServiceRestored)
Resolved Incident EX9215: Service restored for Exchange Online (ServiceRestored)
Resolved Incident EX8343: Post-incident report published for Exchange Online (ServiceRestored)
Of that lot, I regard only four of those to be Critical, the rest should be in the Informational section.
Bear in mind too that this is per O365 subscription, so if you happen to look after a number of clients with O365 subscriptions, you're going to get multiples of those. Flood city.
They need to further enhance the Office 365 Monitoring API to make it more granular so that things can be properly categorised.
Oh, and the folder should be called Microsoft Office 365, not just Office 365. :-/

  • Exchange Server 2010 mailflow reporting using SCOM 2007

    Hi,
We are using SCOM 2007R2 in our Organization and we are Monitoring Exchange server 2010.
We are in need of reports for Mailflow statistics (send and receive)from Exchange server 2010 using SCOM 2007R2.
Eg: Microsoft Exchange 2010 Server Reports Transport Platform Hourly server Statistics.
By default reports available in SCOM for Exchange server will not fulfill our requirement.
Earlier for Exchange server 2007 we are able to fetch the desired reports which is available by default.
Eg:  Exchange 2007 SMTP Message Received
           Exchange 2007 SMTP Message Sent
Is there any way to fetch the reports for Exchange server 2010 same as Exchange 2007 reports.

  • Monitoring two servers with same IIS configuration using SCOM

    Hello,
We have two servers which has the same IIS configuration including sites names, how do we configure APM to monitor and get events captured on two different monitors on SCOM 2012 R2.
    Thank you, Anand
    Anand Franklin

    Hi Anand,
There is no problem at all, if applications IIS paths (Web Site names + Web application name in IIS) absolutely match. Make sure both servers have SCOM Agent installed and connected to the same Management Group.
In .NET Application Performance Monitoring template just keep Target Group field blank (it's blank by default) - that will mean the application will be monitored on each server within Management Group where it's discovered. The same configuration of
APM monitoring will be used for all app instances.
If you want to monitor the app only on two servers, and at the same time the app is hosted on more than these two boxes, you can create Windows Computer group populated with appropriate servers and specify this group as Target for APM monitoring.
If you want to differentiate APM configuration for specific app instances, you should create several Windows Computer groups and bind each group with separate configuration - in this case you will have to run .NET Application Monitoring template several
times, picking up the same app, but changing APM settings and setting new Target Group.

  • Monitor Dell Powerconnect Switches/Routers using SCOM 2012

    Hello,
We are trying to find a way to monitor approximately 20-25 Dell Powerconnect switches/routers (models 5324,5424,5448,5548,6224,6024) through SCOM 2012.
Using SCOM network discovery we are able to get all Dell Powerconnect switches listed, but we are unable to get a network node dashboard, nor vicinity view 1 or 2 hops further. We are able to only see connected network printers and some serial/ethernet devices
    we have.
In addition, SCOM 2012 seems to be able to recognize the model of only Dell Powerconnect 5224 switches. We have found that on the SCOM management server the "C:\Program Files\System Center 2012\Operations Manager\Server\NetworkMonitoring\conf\discovery\oid2type_Dell.conf"
only lists Dell Powerconnect 5224 switches as well as several models from the 3000 series.
We have contacted Dell PRO support, but their reply was that there is no management pack for SCOM available for their networking devices.
Would it be recommended to use http://xsnmp.codeplex.com/ on SCOM 2012 to monitor those switches and get a network digram view or are there any plans to include those MIBs in a future CU or SP of SCOM 2012?

    Hi Alex
Network monitoring has changed from SCOM 2007 R2 to SCOM 2012 so this statement
"but if this works for SCOM 2007, it should apply to SCOM 2012"
is not accurate when it comes to network monitoring:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/momteam/archive/2011/10/24/migrating-operations-manager-2007-network-monitoring.aspx
Would it be recommended to use http://xsnmp.codeplex.com/ on SCOM 2012?
The codeplex solutions for SCOM 2007 R2 will not work on a new \ clean install of SCOM 2012 (if you upgrade from SCOM 2007 R2 they continue to work as legacy devices but you can't add more monitoring).
SCOM 2012 seems to be able to recognize the model of only Dell Powerconnect 5224 switches
What do you mean by recoginse? SCOM can discover network devices but there is an "approved" list that allows for extended monitoring:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26831
You should still be able to discover and monitor other devices though:

  • Layer7 application URL monitoring - SCOM 2007R2 possible?

    Hello helpers,
I have a request to monitor Layer7 application URLs using SCOM 2007 R2.
Have been working on this case past 6 months, but I am unable to resolve it because health state of the URL monitors are not changing.
    URL example: http://ABCDEF.ZYX.HIJKLM.com:8080/ssg/ping
The page just says "OK" and HTTP status code is 200.
Even though we have configured with content text which is not present in the page content, there is no state change happening.
    Appreciate your answers on this.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Dheeraj B.

    Hi,
It seems like that you are using web application availability monitoring template to monior URLs. If you want to get state changing when specific criteria is met, make sure you configured it correctly.

  • Can I Monitor Xamp(apache) hosted web service(OpenEMR) using scom 2012 sp1

i have installed OpenEMR using xamp(apache, mysql) and now i want to monitor what are the various that has been done by the OpenEMR webisite on my local machine, can any one just help to finding out these things.

    Hi,
Based on my research, this software can be installed as service or not as service, if it is installed as service, then we can use SCOM to monitor the service status. And if it is not installed as service, to monitor it, we may need to analysis logs written
    by this software.
And if you want to know what this software did to your computer, I think this should be known by the software vendors, you may need to post thread there. And what I can tell is that we can monitor the computer healthy therefore to know whether something
is wrong with the computer, and then analysis the issue to know whether it is caused by the software.
