Hardware or ios prob

how can i be sure of the non responsiveness of my home button is a hardware or ios prob?

umm can i do it that way:
1. The first thing you need to do is download the appropriate firmware for your device.
You can get a list of firmware downloads from:
http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.ph…
The file you want is:
3.1.2 (3G): iPhone1,2_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw
Download that file. They are large so be patient. Also take note of where it is saved as you need it later on.
Now you are ready to put the phone into restore mode if it isn't already:
Step 1. Turn off your iPhone.
Step 2. Hold down the power and home button.
Step 3. When you see the Apple logo, release the power button but continue holding the home button down.
Step 4. Open iTunes and wait for it to tell you that its in restore mode.
At this point you will see a message in itunes telling you that an iPhone in recovery mode and that it needs to be restored.
Click ok to dismiss this dialog box.
Next on the iTunes screen hold SHIFT and click the restore button.
Instead of downloading the newest firmware it opens a file dialog box.
Navigate to the file you just downloaded and select it.
The rest of the process is automated and will take maybe between 15-20 minutes.

  • What Major/Career to design the iphone/ipod/ipad hardware and iOS design?

I want to go to college to get a bachelor degree to design iphone/ipod/ipad hardware and iOS designing please tell me.

If you are wanting to create internal hardware you need to pursue an Electrical Engineering degree. If you want to write software pursued a computer science degree.
You probably would not be able work on both hardware and software on the iPhone while working at Apple.

  • IPhone 4S/iOS 7.0.4/WiFi Grey Out Issues

My iPhone 4S (64GB memory/ATT) was working beautifully on iOS 5.1.1.  WiFi connected seamlessly with Access Points at home, work, etc.
Then I made the mistake of wirelessly updating to iOS 7.0.4.  Instantly the WiFi stopped working and the <Settings>, <WiFi> tab was greyed out and non-responsive.  Oddly the WiFi tab on the Control Panel was responsive, but did not actually activiate the WiFi chip or open a connection to the WiFi antenna.  Accordingly, there is no option to find or connect to a WiFi network.
Most other features appear to work, including the ATT cellular service and Bluetooth connection.  However, the iPhone is slow to respond to some apps,   For example, tapping <Settings> takes 5-6 seconds for a response whereas with iOS 5.1.1 the response was instantaneous.  Also a few apps (even after updating) and a couple of iOS pages now cause the iPhone to go blank for a few seconds or crash.
Sounded like either an iOS or firmware issue to me.
I followed all of the Apple and ATT suggestions, including:
-Confirming that the iPhone is not in Airplane mode.
-Turning the iPhone off, waiting, and restarting.
-Forcing a hard restart of the iPhone by holding the <Silent> and <Home> keys simultaneously for 7 seconds.
-Resetting the network settings by tapping <Settings>, <General>, <Reset>, and <Reset Network Settings>.
-Checking for a newer iOS (none).
At the suggestion of a couple of ATT support representatives, I tried even more drastic measures:
    -Resetting all settings by tapping <Settings>, <General>, <Reset>, and <Reset All Settings>.
-Resetting all content and settings by tapping <Settings>, <General>, <Reset>, and <Reset All Content and Settings>.
-Backing up, Restoring iOS and firmware, and Restoring applications and data using iTunes.
-Restoring iOS and firmware using iTunes, and then setting up as a new iPhone.
-Turning off iPhone, waiting while ATT pushed a new switch data pack to iPhone, and then restarting iPhone.
Actually I did all of these "fixes" at least twice with the same result:  still a greyed out and non-responsive <Settings> <WiFi> tab with no WiFi signal.
Apple and ATT's ultimate solution was predictable:   Buy a new 64 GB iPhone 5 for several hundred dollars (plus numerous proprietary cables) and forget the 47 GB of data, photos, etc. lost beta-testing their iOS and "fixes".
Any "fixes" that I missed or other suggestions?

ChrisJ4203, thanks very much for your input.  I don't mean to turn this post into an endless debate, but frankly I am still having a hard time believing that the WiFi died as a result of a hardware failure.
My logic might be flawed, but here it is:
While the iPhone 4S got very hot when wirelessly downloading and installing iOS 7.0.4 over the WiFi network, the WiFi chip and antenna had to be functional to complete the wireless iOS update.  Apple was very clear that iOS 7.0.4 is too large to download and install via cellular service.  Accordingly it would appear that any hardware failure had to occur in the few minutes between the download/installation of iOS 7.0.4 and its first use.  That window of opportunity is incredibly small in an otherwise flawless hardware performance.  I am not a big believer in long shot coincidences, so a WiFi hardware malfunction seems highly improbable to me, but not impossible.  A firmware/iOS conflict still seems more plausible to me.
I also don't read much into Apple's "out-of-warranty" replacement offer at $199.  AT&T tells me that anyone walking in off the street (with or without a hardware or iOS malfunction) would receive the same offer.
I appreciate that some iPhone 4S users did not experience any WiFi issues when they updated to iOS 7.0.4, but such difference could easily be explained if Apple used more than one WiFi chip and/or firmware in the iPhone 4S series.  Such an explanation would also account for iOS 7.0.4 (and 7.0.6) not recognizing the WiFi chip after the iOS update.
Still perplexed, but thanks again for your kind efforts to help.
Wonder if I can limp along long enough to spend my money on an Apple iPhone 6 ... but then again I don't want to be anyone's beta-tester.
I am tempted to switch to a Samsung Galaxy or some other smartphone as long as I will be buying new accessories, but frankly I don't want to waste my time learning a new OS or core apps.

  • Ios 7.02-03 animations are gone and camera filters diss appeared, Ios 7.02-03 animations are gone and camera filters diss appeared in ios 7.02

I go my dad's old phone 2 weeks ago, I updated to ios 7.02, my pararama didn't move at all, I looked in settings and messed around trying to make it work ( turning it off and on) it still didn't work, I also noticed that my camera features such as filters on the slide bar dissapered, I updated to 03 but still noting happened I am do angry, how can i fix this? Also my phone, keyboard etc is soooo slow it takes me a minute to type 3 words. All I got to say is apple you ruined everybody's phone, I know a lot of people who are buying galaxy's  because if the update ! I what my paranorma and filters back, please help me:'(

iOS 7 doesn't support all features on the iPhone 4 (it's too old and slow for several iOS 7 features), panorama photography and camera filters  are among the features that are not available on the iPhone 4. Here's a list of what is supported on what hardware with iOS 7:
Not all features are available on all devices.
Traffic information in Today view is available on iPhone 4s or later.
Panorama format is available on iPhone 4s or later and iPod touch (5th generation). Square and video formats and swipe to capture are available on iPhone 4 or later, iPad 2 or later, iPad mini, and iPod touch (5th generation).
Filters in Camera are available on iPhone 4s or later and iPod touch (5th generation 32GB/64GB).
Video sharing is not available on iPad 2 and iPod touch (5th generation 16GB).
AirDrop is available on iPhone 5 or later, iPad (4th generation), iPad mini, and iPod touch (5th generation) and requires an iCloud account.
Safari full-screen view and tab view are available on iPhone 4s or later and iPod touch (5th generation).
Siri is available on iPhone 4s or later, iPad with Retina display, iPad mini, and iPod touch (5th generation) and requires Internet access. Siri may not be available in all languages or in all areas, and features may vary by area. Cellular data charges may apply. New female and male voices will be available initially in U.S. English, French, and German. Returning calls and playing voicemail are available on iPhone 4s or later.
Find My iPhone enables you to locate iOS devices only when they are on and connected to a registered Wi-Fi network or have an active data plan. Some features may not be available for all countries or all areas.
iCloud requires iOS 5 or later on iPhone 3GS or later, iPod touch (3rd generation or later), iPad, or iPad mini; a Mac computer with OS X Lion v10.7.5 or later; or a PC with Windows 7 or Windows 8 (Outlook 2007 or later or an up‑to‑date browser is required for accessing email, contacts, and calendars). Some features require iOS 7 and OS X Mavericks. Some features require a Wi‑Fi connection. Some features are not available in all countries. Access to some services is limited to 10 devices.
You laggy keyboard/typing issue however is another matter. Several iPhone 4 users (and other models too) have reported similar problems after upgrading to iOS 7, but most iPhone 4 users do not experience the issue. A fix I've heard has been successful in several cases is to logout of iCloud and iTunes and the App Store in Settings, reset the phone (press sleep/wake and home buttons together and hold until Apple logo appears), and then log back into iCloud and iTunes and the App Store in Settings again.

  • How to properly setup LB probe for ADFS 3.0 servers

We are facing a problem during ADFS 3.0 (Windows Server 2012 R2), because we do not find a suitable URL for hardware Load Balancer probe to test ADFS nodes.
When tried with IE browser, the URL
https://sts.adfs1.ad/adfs/ls/IdpInitiatedSignon.aspx properly results in ADFS login page but, when tried the same URL with HW LB probe, the probe gets no answer from ADFS server at all.
We compared incoming traffic with network monitor in that ADFS server node (https temporary changed to http to see the traffic), a somewhat similar HTTP GET query did exist:
    GET /adfs/ls/IdpInitiatedSignon.aspx HTTP/1.1..Accept: image/jpeg, image/gif, image/pjpeg, application/x-ms-application, application/xaml+xml, application/x-ms-xbap, */*..Accept-Language: fi-FI..User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows

Please note that using dns name in the url opens the metadata OK, but using IP address fails, not opposite as you mentioned.

  • FXO/FXS IOS COMMAND ISSUES

    Hello,
I've got 2 1760 routers with each a VIC2-4FX0 and VIC-FXS/DID cards. I've got 128mb of system RAM in them, running IOS c1700-advsecurityk9-mz.124-3.bin, which is supposed to be a voice ios with advanced feat. pack according to Cisco's website. I've also got 2x of the needed dsp's (can't remember model number, but its only 1 dsp chip on it - again cisco said 1 dsp would handle 4 channels, unless we're using the high-end codecs. My issue is that I cannot issue any of the voice-port commands. I don't think the hardware is somehow installed correctly. When I issue a "show hardware", they are not listed, however, when I capture a boot, they are listed as "card in slot 2/ card in slot 3" where the router allocates memory to devices.
Can anyone please help? And by the way, these are default no config, all I have done on the one is give a hostname, fastethernet ip and some basic password sec. and that's it.

I don't understand that because there is nothing in slot 0, and there are cards in slots 2 and 3. According to the cisco ios selector or whatever their cross-reference is said this ios has the voice/voip features, but if you have another ios version you think I should be using, please by all means let me know.

  • IPad 2 iOS 8 storage being used when streaming videos (TV Shows) no way to delete or find the videos? Am I missing something?

I am using a 32GB iPad2 with iOS 8.0.2 loaded on it.  I stream iTunes purchased TV show videos on the device through the video app which I think is supposed to be streaming the video but it seems to be using up storage space anyway. When I go to manage storage I don't even see the video icon there to see what videos are there. The only way I can clean up space is to reset the iPad. This is too time consuming and I would think there is an easier way to deal with this issue?  I do little else than watch video so it is the only app that can be using that much storage. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

    HerbertPotts wrote:
I Am having the same problem. The video app isn't showing up in manage memory. If I click on the little cloud to download a video the video app will show up there, though, it only shows the video I downloaded by clicking the cloud and doesn't show the videos I downloaded but still show the cloud next to them. The videos are definitely taking up a ton of space on my iPad. I changed it to only show the videos downloaded to this iPad and the videos I watched still show up. Also, a ton of my space is used. This is a serious issue. There are gigs of space I can't use until they fix this. I've also tried opening the video app and deleting them there with no luck. I'm using an iPad 3 64gig.
If they have the cloud icon next to them, they aren't downloaded to your device, so there is nothing to delete, and they aren't taking up space. What does it say under Available Storage in Settings->General->Usage?

Phil, this is exactly the problem, when watching shows iPads always download the video. When using iOS7 regardless of how the video was started it would always show up under the video selection of storag management, thus allowing th user to delete it and make space available for other videos or whatever.  Now with iOS8 the videos do not behave the same way. If you download by pressing thof cloud the fil can be found under the video selection of manage storage, but if you select just the picture(icon) for a he show it will play and take up space but will not show up under the video selection of the managed storage and the user will hav no known way to delete the file or files. Clearly there are other people have th same issue.  I would like to see someon from Apple try to duplicate what i've posted here using the same hardware and iOS version to determine if this is actually a bug or if I am done my something wrong.
Just tried this myself, and it seems its doing something different when played directly from the picture.   It does indeed play, but it does not show up as used space anywhere.
Can't seem to find any explanation for this anywhere.
I guess for now, it would be better to just tap the cloud icon so you can delete it afterwards.
Perhaps it would be useful to report it as a Bug to Apple.

I think I'll do just that.

  • A noob with a dvd burning prob.

    hello to all reading,
i've been going through the forums and i can't seem to find the help i need, so i'm getting brave and asking, and please, if this is the wrong place, i apologize. however, any help is SOOO appreciated.
my question is, i bought an iomega external usb dvd writer 16x, mac compantiable, but having problem after problem and going through blank dvds like nothing. i was wondering, could i say just bypass the software they gave and just use the hardware and use something like mac toast instead of the software they gave. the hardware itself is a dual layer burner.
the burner is showing up in all the right places, check system profiler , and under disc burning , its right there with my internal cd/dvd player, the only thing is under burn support it says Yes(Unsupported), so i'm guessing that might not be good? i guess what i'm worried about is this thing might just be
read only, i swear i saw that somewhere on my laptop. and i did read that someone with a similar problem solved it buy burning from the finder window, tried that last night, but it said it couldn't compelte the function and was closing session 1, and it just hung there for like 20 minutes till i ended it.
so if anything else, i'll just go out and get something else if the hardware is the prob, its just i dont want to give up just yet. once again i appreciate any help, and thanks to all who contriubte!

    sofaking78,
Malcolm, as usual, has provided good advice. Here's a link to some info on FW enclosures for optical drives. I wouldn't let the "noob" thing scare you off from attempting this yourself. These things are just "nuts and bolts", so to speak, and are quite easy to work with. The tools you'd be working with consist of a single philips screwdriver. Here's another link to some instructions with pictures showing how it's done. You could later buy a bare ATA drive to use in the IOMEGA case for a spare drive, although it won't be bootable being USB...
Whatever course you take, rest assured that there are plenty of members here who would be more than happy to help you with whatever you need to do. Somebody here has successfully done just about anything Mac-related before. Please remember that even the most experienced member did everything for the first time, at one time or another, relying on someone else to help out.

  • Wireless and vlan problem

    Hello there
This is trickier than i thought:
I have purchased recently a brand new cisco 887w and my main issue is that none of the devices i have can communicate each other via wireless on the same vlan, ssid ect. ONLY.. though they do not have problem with the internet At first I thought that something had do with my personal configuration but after making few tweaks here and there I ended up nowhere. So I decided to rollback to the default configuration that comes via cisco express to see if i missed anything. To my surprise, again devices on the network could not ping and communicate each other! I don’t want to think the worst but I hope this isn’t hardware or IOS issue. Hopefully simple command(s) will solve the problem.
I have no probs with wired connection
Here’s the main configuration that comes with cisco express
    Thanx in advance

Alex did you try what I wrote in one of my first posts?
"Now... that is configured on the AP.
However there are other  stuff that might affect traffic between client. For example for  multicast traffic, or as a real example, I have a 1240 on my house and  for sharing files from my PC to my PS3 I need to use "no ip  igmp snooping" on the AP..."
I have the same problem after I received my PS3...
    I need to to:
    telnet the AP
    and do
    config t
    no ip igmp snooping
    do wr
Reload the PS3  and use wireless only and reconnect with your computer and then DISABLE any firewall on your PC..
    I have a PS3 connected to a 1242 AP (abg) actually using G only SSID with WPA2
I didnt disable aironet extensions, so dont worry about that I have it working with it.
Since you are having a N radio that could make a difference however youare been connected ! and traffic is flowing well.. except for that command that basically drops the multicast packets which are needed from communication between PS3 and media server...
Try it and let me know...
If you need to understand this feature take a look at this information from the configuration guide:
Note If there is no multicast router for processing IGMP query and response from the host, it is mandatory that no ip igmp snooping be configured on the access point. When IGMP snooping is enabled, all  multicast group traffic must send IGMP query and response. If an IGMP  query or response is not detected, all multicast traffic for that group  is dropped.

  • My iPod Touchs Wi-fi is greyed out, and none of the apple solutions work

My iPod randomly just disconnected from the wifi one day, after like a year and a half of no probs. Now it cant even recognise my wifi, and wont let me select the wifi option! None of the apple solutions work! anyone know any other solutions?! x

  • I have kernel panic too! but for a different reason...

    hey all
my macbook has recently started experiencing kernel panic and i cant figure out why.
the first time it happened i used disk utility to verify the hard drive. DU said the hard drive needed to be repaired. i tried to boot up from the OSX 10.4 disk that came with my computer, but my computer wouldnt boot. so i booted up from disk warrior instead. i rebuilt the directory, ran the hardware check (no probs reported) and had DW check all files and folders. DW reported one corrupt .plist file. (i have looked at every single .plist file in the folder DW told me to but the corrupt file is nowhere to be found.) however, when i booted up normally and ran disk utility again DU said my hard drive was fine.
then kernel panic struck again. did a little research and found apple jack. ran all 5 of apple jack scripts and AJ also said all is well.
kernel panic again. used cleanapp to delete some old programs and empty caches. manually deleted about 80% of .plist files hoping that one of them would be the corrupt one. DW still reports one corrupt .plist file. so i decide to wipe the computer and do a clean install of 10.4. but when i try to open the OSX installer (from the disk that came with my computer) i get a message that says 10.4 cant be installed on this computer... that it isnt compatible. ***?
more research and this time decide on tech tools pro. run every test TTP has to offer and everything checks out fine.
so... now i dont know what to do. and my computer just had kernel panic again this morning. i pasted the report from it below. i dont know enough to tell if theres anything in there that explains whats wrong with my computer.
can anyone out there help me? in the very least can anyone tell me how to get my computer to recognize that it is compatible with 10.4 so i can erase everything and start again?
bah! this *****. thx in advance for any help you can give...

Understanding crash logs isn’t easy and it’s hard (sometimes impossible) to decipher the cause of the problem. Take a look at Apple’s Crash Reporter document at http://developer.apple.com/technotes/tn2004/tn2123.html

Kernel panics are usually caused by a hardware problem – frequently RAM, a USB device or a Firewire device. What external devices do you have connected? When trying to troubleshoot problems, disconnect all external devices. Do you experience the same problems?
To eliminate RAM being the problem, Look at this link: *Testing RAM* @ http://guides.macrumors.com/Testing_RAM Then download & use Memtest & Ramber.
May be a solution on one of these links.

  • IPAD 2 Restore errors 4005, 4013

I have tried three different computers ( W7 en W8 ), fresh install itunes on one computer, latest version update on other two, different cables.
    After reading some forums:
    Running Itunes as administrator.
Also manually downloading ipsw files and with shift key trying to restore from file.
Itunes continually gives errors 4005 or 4013.
    Sometimes I get a screen:

  • IPod Touch 3G won't turn on or enter recovery mode, but is recognized by iT

I recently put new songs on my ipod touch 3rd gen and they started skipping when I was listening to them so I decided to Restore it. So I went through the whole process and it went through I guess what they call a "Recovery Loop". So it keeps Restoring and then keeps saying "This iPod can't be used with iTunes until it has been restored". It keeps looping over and over! Now the iPod doesn't turn on at all and doesn't enter DFU mode however it is recognized by iTunes.
    HELP!

I think you have a couple of hardware problem:
    - The grayed-out wifi indicate one hardware problem:
iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
    - Not using a battery for extended periods of time can cause battery failure. Thus, your battery may be dead.
    - I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
