Hardware problem? Any help at all?

Airport Express, 3 years old. First problem. I have only a very pale green, flickering (not flashing) light, will not flash, no amber, no connection. It has worked fine for years. Reset does nothing at all. Any ideas?

Welcome to the discussions!
Did you try a Factory Default Reset?
Pull the AirPort Express (AX) from power for a few minutes
Hold in the reset button and keep holding it in as you plug the AX back in to power
Release the reset button after 8-10 seconds
Try this a few times. If no luck, I'm afraid that your Express has experienced an internal electrical problem and will need to be replaced.

I have my MacBookPro(early 2008) 2,6 Ghz Intel duo. 4 Gb 15 inch, with all the updated software....It was getting slow, so I used the disk utility to check the and try to to solve problems I found this

I also run ONYX and have the same answer.
After that finding the mac doesn´t start, no signals on the screen, the disk makes noise but nothing happens.....I find out that MBP, has a video card that after a few years stops working, because I found that message I am doubting of a Hardware (videocard) or a system problem , any help ?

Connect the Time Machine backup drive to the iMac. If you've never started up the new iMac, then when you do you will enter the Setup Assistant where you can opt to restore from a Time Machine backup. Just follow directions.
If the iMac has already been through the Setup Assistant, then open Migration Assistant in the Utilities folder and use it to migrate from the Time Machine backup drive.
A Basic Guide for Migrating to Intel-Macs
The Knowledgebase article Intel-based Mac: Some migrated applications may need to be updated refers to methods of dealing with migrating from PowerPC chips to Intel with the Migration Assistant safely. The authors of this tip have not had a chance to verify this works in all instances, or that it avoids the 10.6.1 and earlier Guest Account bug that caused account information to get deleted upon use of the Migration/Setup Assistant. However, a well backed up source that includes at least two backups of all the data that are not connected to your machine will help you avoid potential issues, should they arise. In event it does not work, follow the steps below.
If you are migrating a PowerPC system (G3, G4, or G5) to an Intel-Mac be careful what you migrate.  Keep in mind that some items that may get transferred will not work on Intel machines and may end up causing your computer's operating system to malfunction.
Rosetta supports "software that runs on the PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor that are built for Mac OS X". This excludes the items that are not universal binaries or simply will not work in Rosetta:
      1. Classic Environment, and subsequently any Mac OS 9 or earlier applications
      2. Screensavers written for the PowerPC System Preference add-ons
      3. All Unsanity Haxies Browser and other plug-ins
      4. Contextual Menu Items
      5. Applications which specifically require the PowerPC G5 Kernel extensions
      6. Java applications with JNI (PowerPC) libraries
See also What Can Be Translated by Rosetta.
In addition to the above you could also have problems with migrated cache files and/or cache files containing code that is incompatible.
If you migrate a user folder that contains any of these items, you may find that your Intel-Mac is malfunctioning. It would be wise to take care when migrating your systems from a PowerPC platform to an Intel-Mac platform to assure that you do not migrate these incompatible items.
If you have problems with applications not working, then completely uninstall said application and reinstall it from scratch. Take great care with Java applications and Java-based Peer-to-Peer applications. Many Java apps will not work on Intel-Macs as they are currently compiled. As of this time Limewire, Cabos, and Acquisition are available as universal binaries. Do not install browser plug-ins such as Flash or Shockwave from downloaded installers unless they are universal binaries. The version of OS X installed on your Intel-Mac comes with special compatible versions of Flash and Shockwave plug-ins for use with your browser.
The same problem will exist for any hardware drivers such as mouse software unless the drivers have been compiled as universal binaries. For third-party mice the current choices are USB Overdrive or SteerMouse. Contact the developer or manufacturer of your third-party mouse software to find out when a universal binary version will be available.
Also be careful with some backup utilities and third-party disk repair utilities. Disk Warrior, TechTool Pro , SuperDuper , and Drive Genius  work properly on Intel-Macs with Leopard.  The same caution may apply to the many "maintenance" utilities that have not yet been converted to universal binaries.  Leopard Cache Cleaner, Onyx, TinkerTool System, and Cocktail are now compatible with Leopard.
Before migrating or installing software on your Intel-Mac check MacFixit's Rosetta Compatibility Index.

      6. Transferring data with Setup Assistant - Migration Assistant FAQ
      7. OS X Lion: How to use Migration Assistant to transfer files from another Mac
Because Migration Assistant isn't the ideal way to migrate from PowerPC to Intel Macs, using Target Disk Mode, copying the critical contents to CD and DVD, an external hard drive, or networking will work better when moving from PowerPC to Intel Macs.  The initial section below discusses Target Disk Mode.  It is then followed by a section which discusses networking with Macs that lack Firewire.
If both computers support the use of Firewire then you can use the following instructions:
      1. Repair the hard drive and permissions using Disk Utility.
      2. Backup your data.  This is vitally important in case you make a mistake
          or there's some other problem.
      3. Connect a Firewire cable between your old Mac and your new Intel Mac.
      4. Startup your old Mac in Transferring files between two computers using FireWire.
      5. Startup your new Mac for the first time, go through the setup and
registration screens, but do NOT migrate data over. Get to your
desktop on the new Mac without migrating any new data over.
If you are not able to use a Firewire connection (for example you have a Late 2008 MacBook that only supports USB:)
    1. Set up a local home network: Creating a small Ethernet Network.
    2. If you have a MacBook Air or Late 2008 MacBook see the following:

In your /Home/ folder: Documents, Movies, Music, Pictures, and Sites folders.
    In your /Home/Library/ folder:
/Home/Library/Application Support/AddressBook (copy the whole folder) /Home/Library/Application Support/iCal (copy the whole folder)
Also in /Home/Library/Application Support (copy whatever else you need including folders for any third-party applications)

    If you want cookies:
    /Home/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist /Home/Library/Application Support/WebFoundation/HTTPCookies.plist
    For Entourage users:
Entourage is in /Home/Documents/Microsoft User Data Also in /Home/Library/Preferences/Microsoft.
Credit goes to Macjack for this information.
If you need to transfer data for other applications please ask the vendor or ask in the  Discussions where specific applications store their data.
    5. Once you have transferred what you need restart the new Mac and test to make sure the contents are there for each of the applications.

  • WLC problem, any Help?

    Hi,
I've got a problem with our WLC 4402.
We have a big network with only Cisco devices (routers, switches, wlc's ....). every thing is running fantastic a part from the following issue:
I've a lot of Vlans, one of them called AVlan. if I connect devices  anywhere in the building  (pcs, laptops,.....) to this Vlan "using wired connections /cat5 cables" , all devices can see each other and transfare files, documents among them, but if I connect the same devices using the same Vlan (Avlan) but through wireless system, non of the devices can see anyother "connected" device (every pc can see only it's shared folders)!!!!. I've checked everything on the wireless controller (4402-25) but can't find the reason for this issue. It is very important for us to get all  devices connected to this Vlan to be able to "talk to eachother" because we have a file server in the same Vlan, which we use for transfering files from / to this server and among the devices on the same Vlan ( as I mentioned before it workes perfectly on wired network on the same Vlan).
    Any help please
    Mny thanks
    Ali

Many thanks for all your help, and sorry for the delay (I was not at work for the last 4 days)
The vlan I have problems with (only wireless) is the vlan 208
Please find below the onfiguration of the distribution and core switches:
The vlan 502 in the distribution switch because we use this vlan for our wireless voucher system
    Core switch:
    interface GigabitEthernet1/0/12
    description Wifi Ctrlr
    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
    switchport trunk allowed vlan 1,201,203,208,211,214,499-510,600
    switchport mode trunk
    channel-group 4 mode on
    Distribution switch:
    interface FastEthernet1/0/23
    description *** WIFI_AP_HALL-B_CLOSE-TO-HALL-A ***
    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
    switchport trunk allowed vlan 1,502
    switchport mode trunk
    interface FastEthernet1/0/24
    description *** WIFI_AP_HALL-B_MIDDLE-OF-HALL-B ***
    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
    switchport trunk allowed vlan 1,502
    switchport mode trunk
Does anybody think that I have to add Vlan 208 to the distribution switch as a trunk (
    switchport trunk allowed vlan 1,502)?
    Many thanks to everybody

  • Imac G5 1.8 Grey Screen, Start Up Problem, Any Help Appreciated.

    Hello,
I've been having start up issues for about four days. Never had any problems before. Here's what happens:
During start up the start up the usual tone is heard. A grey screen appears and the start up process stops. I am forced to restart and try again. After several attempts the computer start up makes it to the grey apple logo and then the fans max out. I then restart the computer again and it finally starts up. The computer works perfectly once it is finally on all of the way. I have tried the follwing techniques to fix the problem:
Tech Tool Pro: Optimize and Maintenance, program worked fine, fully optimized, but did not fix the start up issue.
Utility Disk from CD: verify disk and permissions, permmisions were corrected, disk repair does not work-error message.
Started in Safe Mode: Checked for extra Login items, none found.
I'm not sure what else I can do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Greg Sayles
    Imac G5 1.8   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

You say 'disk repair doesn't work - error message'. It's not clear, but have you tried booting up from your Panther install disk and running Disk Utility from there? Perhaps running DiskWarrior might help (if you have it of course). Failing that you may be looking at an Archive & Install to replace your existing OS with a fresh new one while keeping your apps & files intact.

    Please someone help...
I updated Itunes a while ago from 9. something to 10.3
When i did this my computer usage went to 100% and basically froze. The only way to get computer working was to end tasks and processes in task manager.
I uninstalled itunes and then reinstalled it. since doing this i cannot even get itunes to open???
I cant update my phone to change handset from iphone 4 to 4s that ive had for a month now.
    Any help?

    Hello there, Tricia.
You may have to find the download folder for the browser you are using and launch the installer from there. Another option you may want to try is using another browser to download and install iTunes. The following Knowledge Base article offers up some steps for how to download iTunes using Windows Internet Explorer:

  • X201 Wireless switch Hardware problem - PLEASE HELP

    Hello everyone,
I have been a regular reader of this wonderful forum and have also participated on a few questions. I have an x201 which I bought from UK 6months back.
After a smooth sail for many months and just when I thought life was going good, I have a wireless switch problem that pops up out of nowhere. I never use hardware switch and had to do it only last week because of checking for my internet connection problems.
Only once in my entire experience with this laptop that I put it off, now it has become so sensitive that even shaking the laptop while typing turns off the laptop.  On reading about this problem I found out that it is quite a common problem with x-series and has many users affected from it. After confidently calling the customer support they ask me to pay 200euros just to "TAKE A LOOK AT THE PROBLEM"????. Apart from at least acknowledging the persistent problem across all the models they end up asking me to pay for everything and cannot tell me how much it will cost me or even tell me how long it will take to replace this.
Is there any other way to do this? The support told me that the only other way to repair this will be to buy the Base switch myself and then replace it. I am a biologist doing my PhD and have no knowledge of all these. Apart from all the appluad this laptop got from my colleagues, now they all think this is a joke by Lenovo to be charging for something that is entirely their mistake.
Can anyone point to a solution please and help me. I was really looking to buying an ultrabook next year but looks like replacing a switch is going to cost me 1/4th of what one would be for an entire laptop.
    PLEASE HELP

    Hi chaihg,
I understand that the issue has not been resolved.
I would like to see if I can help and I've PMed you for some details. Do let me know.

  • Toshiba P305 major hardware problems PLease help

I have a satellite p305. The headphone jack stopped working and the touchpad and click buttons stopped working. I tried updating drivers but nothing changed. The other problem was whenever you had to programs open that produce sound (windows media player and a you tube video or similar) The audio came out staticky. This is not when trying to listen to both players at the same time, one is paused. But if you have both of them open one will be staticky. I tore the computer down to see if there was anything visually wrong with it at the headphone jack or where the click butons and touch pad plug in but found nothing. I put the motherboard back in and put it all back together and plugged it in and pressed the power button. The buttons light up and i think either the hard drive or fan spun but nothing else happened after that. Im thinking bad MOBO but i need some advise because this is a computer that i am working on for someone else and really dont want the whole you broke my computer game to be played.

This is one problem within the DirectX 9.0b:
Please take a good look at this update for Microsoft DirectX v9.0b:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=8dfd1b6d-e177-4a0e-91d0-b4310675b02b&DisplayLang=en
    Possible Issue Description:
    - TV-Tuner card cannot keep TV-Tuner settings in memory;
    - TV-Tuner card cannot be initialized in system after installing DirectX v9.0b;
    - TV-Tuner card cannot capture any picture;
    Official Microsoft Information:
DirectX 9.0b was released on 7/23/03 to address the MIDI security issue identified in bulletin MS03-030. A small number of non-security fixes were also included in the release. One of these fixes caused several TV Tuner capture card/driver combinations using video formats other than NTSC (NTSC-J, PAL, SECAM) to no longer initialize correctly on Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003. Symptoms include loss of capture functionality and potential inability to set/retain device capture settings. This hotfix, documented further in Knowledge Base article 825116, has been issued to correct the flaw.
I believe that your SB card is sharing IRQs with your Firewire hardwares thus causing errors.

  • Powermac g5, Hardware Problem PLEASE HELP - I MIGHT GET FIRED

My work computer, G5 powermac, case was damaged. Ordered a new one, transfered all components, but now it won't start up. I am so screwed. When I plug it in, I hear a click. Nothing happens when I hit the power button. Any ideas. Please help. I might get fired over this. Are there any specific hardware related reasons my mac wouldn't start up? Please help.
    Adrian

If the power supply was out the computer would be
just dead. Nothing. no noise nothing. I agree that
you should double check your connections. Is the
clicking noise comming from the power supply. The
only thing that could click in my mind is the HDD
when the pin is striking the side of the HDD
well it seems dead. but when you either unplug it or plug it in i hear a click that is definantly coming from the power supply. I have rechecked all connections.

  • Strange integrated Realtek 650 studdering problem, any help mucho appreciated?

Well, here goes, my problem is when ever I am extracting a large .rar file and listining to music in winamp at the same time, my music starts to studder, pop, crackle and everything else in the background also slows greatly. It also effects games too. Whenever there would be music with a game installer, it would studder too the progress bar.  I am running a 64 bit OS but I've also had this problem with the 32 bit OS. I tried drivers from MSI's site, Nvidia's, and Realteks.  Untill recently I discovered a fix, sort of.
I went into the device manager and disabled the ac97 audio driver and then reenabled it and everything worked perfect. For the first time I felt like I was running a dual core machine. The studdering and slowdown was completly gone. I could actually extract 3 rar's at once with no problem. After leaving my pc on all night or after a restart though it would revert back to the problem again and I would have to disable/renable it over  and everthing was fine again.
I wish I had a more perment fix for this problem though.  I hope I don't have to get my Mobo replaced because of this minor audio glitch.
Also another problem I have is when I play need for speed most wanted, I am getting a weird studdering especially during a corner. Even in low res and low specs, strange? I wonder if that has to do with my 3800X2 processor. I should'nt get any slow down considering this was a gamecube game that came out last year. Hell I can run Fear and Battlefield 2 max settings with AAX2 in 1280x1024 with no slowdown but not NFSMW.  Plus I'm running a 7900GTXXX.
Test Drive Unlimited is coming out soon, I hope I don't run into any problems with it too. Well that's about it.
    Thanks for the Help!!

Music is played from a file (read) on your single HD .
Doing other jobs that at the same time reads/writes to other sector(s) cause the players read buffer to

In other words , for this case normal behaviour .

  • Itunes\Music Store Problems -Any Help Appreciated

Recently apple gave us (yes gave) a new intel Imac, after about 4 repairs to the mainboard and PSU on our 1 year old G5 Imac. Needless to say we were quite happy. Well after about 2 weeks and I think this coincides with a couple of the recent updates, Itunes started to randomly lose songs. they would deauthorize randomly and then increment the same. Well we resorted to contacting apple (under apple care now...) They have been no help nor has itunes\music store support. To their credit they have been willing to deauthorize the computes on the account 5 times in as many days. Although the emails asking the same questions over and over are quite frustrating. Currently the symptoms are:
    1) Random incrementations on authorizations for one computer
    2) Out of Memory error when you try to authorize until 5 authorizations are reached
    3) Music Store -50 error
I have checked our router and cable modem etc no problems there, I can turn off the hardware firewall and no changes are had. I don't have any suspect software running, and have removed any itunes related widgets etc. Most recently I have rolled back itunes to 6.04 but still no dice. My wife (whose computer this is) is at her wits end as she is a tried and true "mac-girl" and has managed to convince almost everyone we know to switch or at least grab an ipod and go.... Needless to say she is currently regretting that... If anyone has any ideas please let me know I am currently sitting on $300+ of music I can't even get burned to CD or listen too. Apple tech support etc has been pretty worthless and it seems like these errors are rampant atm, you would think a "We're working on it" would be coming. Oh well Thanks in Advance.

Intel IMac   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I did repair the permissions as I have learned you are suppose to. The firmware should be up to date as well. With regards to a b\u when the G5 was acting squirrelly the last thing I did was purchase an external HD to ensure that we ddidn't lose the music. Is the common problem the 10.4.7 update or the Itunes 6.05? I have rolled back to Itunes 6.04 but haven't touched the OS. It's not something I really want to do but at this point will try almost anything.

  • 3 Out Of 4 STBs Do Not Work And I Cannot Get Any Help At All.

Last night at 10:30 the 3 7100s stopped working, they are stuck at Starting Up One Moment Please.  My 7232 is working just fine, so is my Phone and Internet.  So I call in and I am prompted through the exact same steps I have already taken, unplug box, unplug coax, turn on, turn off.  Nothing, same result.  She then states there isn't a signal from the boxes I need to locate the splitters in the house and disconnect them.  I say it is after midnight and pouring, as they are all outside.  Repeated this sequence 3 times before I had to raise my voice, "They are all outside where it is pouring."  Her reply is there is nothing she can do until I disconnect them and reconnect, NOTHING, click.
So after work today I come home, disconnect every coax lead there is, unplug the boxes, unplug their coaxes, hook everything up and still Stuck on the Starting Up Screen.  I tried 2 chats and each one is exactly the same, unplug, plug in.....  Then it is the whole house reset, that drops connection and the chat and rep are gone.  Now, mind you, they have my cell number because  they ask for it in case of a disconnect, but they never use it.  Nothing has changed, only the 7232 works and I am getting ready for another phone call, to go over the exact same script again and again.
You wonder why a customer is already angry when we finally talk to someone, why do you think?  You want your payment for services not rendered, a service call is out of the question and your phone reps. don't have a clue.  All they can do is read the script and repeat the same steps that have been done already.  Isn't there a record of every call and chat and can't they see it and then use their common sense and try to deal with a problem?
So we are stuck with 3 boxes that aren't working, apparently they are not getting a signal so sending another one won't fix this either.  Seems something is seriously wrong but no one can help.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I was having the same problem.. TV went out on wednesday, called verizon and was on the phone until midnight doing the stupid little unplug **bleep**, but the TV just kept on that red fios screen. They said they would send out a new DVR box to replace the one I have (mind you I just started with verizon on the 18th of July). I get the new DVR on Friday and at last I plug it in, get all excited to watch the NFL preseason games and of course, the **bleep** doesn't work, just a black screen. I call verizon again and on hold for an hour before I had to leave. Come back, screen is still on black and call them and wait another thirty minutes before its answered, they did everything on their end for trying to manually activate the box, and still nothing..... he then gave me a reference number for the technician scheduled to come the next day (Saturday) from 8am to 9pm, of course i wasn't happy with the open schedule but I sucked it up and dealt with it, canceled my plans for Saturday so I can be home when the verizon tech shows up and find myself calling verizon at 930pm asking where the hell this tech was, they told me the office is closed and they open at 8am tomorrow. Well its tomorrow and I call them back, just to find out that its not open until MONDAY at 8am......................................................................................................................................................................................................... and so now I have to wait yet another day to try and get my **bleep** fixed that I'm paying for and havent even had a month.... yea good luck getting me to pay verizon

  • USB/memory card reader problem,  any help would be great

Hello all, I bought a new memory card reader today and our computer will not recoginize it's there. The reader is a Targus universal 32 in 1 memory card reader/writer and I think the model is TGR-CRD25, it also says USB 2.0. I didn't have any problems with the old reader as far as the machine "seeing" the reader. This new reader does show up in the system profiler but the little power light will not come on and I get a "low power for device" type message when I plug it in. I unplugged the keyboard and plugged in the new reader to the USB port where the keyboard was connected and the light came on on the reader but iphoto was still saying no storage device when I tried to import pictures? Any ideas?

There is very little extra power available once the mouse is hooked to the keyboard. The "real" solution is to get a USB Hub with its own power supply.

  • Once and for all, how does one stop losing music on IPOD TOUCH? WHAT settings do you people use to stop losing music? Does anybody have any help with this? Does any body have any help at all? APPLE offers no help!!!!!!!!!

I constantly loss my music!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I constantly loss my music!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I need help to stop this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First of all, is the music only disappearing from your iPod, or from your iTunes Library as well?
From your other thread, I gather you swap between Manually Managing and Syncing. This is a bad idea, it will lead to confusion on your part about what should be on the iPod. You'll make a choice that iTunes later overrides - because you've told it to. Choose one method or the other, not both.
Peresonally, I recommend using the iTunes Sync process. Using Sync will not prevent you from deciding what's on your iPod. You will still have a free and full choice in that. The Sync process will however, make it far easier for you to put everything back onto your iPod in the event that you need to Restore your iPod, or when you replace this iPod with a newer one.
Back to your issue though. Is the music, missing from your iPod, still in your Library?

are you playing wireless? if so to get best connection make sure you got AC router and not normal 1 band 2.4GHz B/G/N router since that will only give you like 30MB/s max so that could cause lag and hig spike, secondly to confirm this use LAN cable and see if lagg occures if not then it's your router that isnt fast enough
