Hardware problems one week after warranty expires

So for no identifiable reason, exactly a week after the one year anniversary of getting my iPhone 4 which I have taken very good care of, the home button starts giving problems (needs repeated presses to get it to work). I'm wondering if anyone else is seeing this? Seems very convenient timing for Apple...

I used my original iphone for three years without issue.
Iphone 3gs for two years, now it is being used by my sister-in-law, still no issues ( almost three years from purchase)
Iphone 4 for a year and a half with no issues.
Ipod touch for 3 years, no issues.

iPad 2 started saying no sim, exactly 1 yr old. Went to get new sim which also failed to work, seemed to be a Lot of people experiencing same problem. 3 store said apple knows its an issue. Hi Debbie, it was a nightmare tried 3 new sim cards non worked. Apple refused to help as it was 10 days out of warranty and i hadnt extended the warranty I hunted Internet and asked couple of American techie guys from my geeks . It seemed to be issue with latest iOS upgrade and my problem happened after I upgraded to its 5.1.1 eventually I had to sit in Apple store with printout of all other affected users. It seemed Americans had been offered new iPads and problem was being acknowledged but not here. Although network providers said they had a lot of customers with same issue. I did get new iPad after long battle and had to pay for extended warranty. Good luck

Ipod frozen one month after warranty expired!

I REALLY REALLY hope somoeone can help! I have the 40GB ipod that I got as a 2004 Christmas gift. I only use it when I go to the gym, so it hasn't been jostled around from frequent use. It has a protective case and resides in it's own compartment in my gym bag. Needless to say, it has ALWAYS been very protected.
I pulled out my ipod to take it on vacation in January this year. I get on the plane, pull out my ipod and it's frozen. I've been trying these 5R's, but the best I get after several updates and resets is the language screen and this only happens when I move the hold switch from on to off. From there, nothing happens.
Could it be a mere coincidence the timing of such an issue? Has anyone else had this happen and how on earth does apple get away with this?!

I tried that a dozen times but buttons seem to be locked -
Dead iPod Nano after Upgrade to iTunes 7.1.1.5.
Immediately after upgrading to iTunes 7.1.1.5. and updating, charging, and syncing, my iPod does not function properly.
Symptoms:
_The click wheel does not seem to work any more. The hold switch is set correctly to the left position.
_No response to a reset by holding menu / select buttons for 10 secs.
_When iPod is plugged into my CPU it seems to act normally - the screen lights up briefly and displays the message "do not connect" as iTunes starts and syncs all checked songs like normal.
_After the sync the iPod display a full battery icon.
_When the iPod is unplugged from the CPU the iPod display is lit briefly, displays the menu where the user selects which language to use. There is a small icon that looks like a lock at the top of the screen. After about 15 secs the screen goes blank despite trying to scroll and make selections with the click wheel.
_The iPod does not respond to the click wheel when in Itunes (which may be normal) or when disconnected (even after switching the hold switch back and forth several times).
_The iPod shows up in iTunes and in My Computer.
_Songs on iPod open in Windows Media Player and play OK when selected directly from My Computer.
I tried resetting and upgrading the iPod several times from Itunes and also restoring ITunes 5 but no luck.
This iPod (2g) is 15 mos. old and worked perfectly just prior to the upgrade to 7.1.1.5..

applecare must be purchased while the product is still covered under its original warranty. If you have a proof of purchase that shows the product is still covered under warranty you can get applecare, otherwise you cannot purcase additional coverage

Apple's [service web page|https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do] will tell you your service options. I had a pair of headphones go out on me, they sent me a new pair very quickly. I had to send the old ones back, but not until after they sent me the new ones. Worked out really well.

HT201412 iPad screen does not respond, even after several resets (both with iTunes and at the Apple Store). Apple is also unresponsive to a hardware problem once the product warranty period has expired. Does anyone have a suggestion?

It is getting very frustrating to have Apple products.
Constant software upgrades and product releases seems to be the sole focus of Apple.
Apple does not offer hardware repair services. I can understand this policy when products do not fail. But it seems that this is not the case with Apple, as it becomes frequent that products fail just after the warranty period.
New software releases also destroyed the value of a "GREAT EXPERIENCE". YouTube, Google Maps, ... all features that are deleted with the latest IOS and that Apple could not properly replace.
It seems that Apple products are not 'consummable' products but 'disposable' products.
Let's see how robust SAMSUNG tablets are

Apple has hardware repair services, on repairable hardware. Apple just doesn't repair iPads, from day one Apple has always replaced iPads, either under warranty or as a reduced cost out-of-warranty purchase.

I think the motherboard is burned. I saw the smoke came out from the left vent.
Can I update my warranty one more year to avoid the cost of repair or just throw

The warranty can be extended within one month of expiration date, how come your laptop short circuited did you have get water on the laptop or something, in which case warranty don't cover it. And you are better off selling the laptop for parts or get a new motherboard off ebay or IBM parts, and change it yourself.

Apple Care after warranty expired?

Hi all,
I have a Mid 2009 MacBook Pro 13" that needs a new Logic Board. I went to the Genius Bar and they said they'd fix whatever was wrong with my laptop for $280. I can only spend about $120 on parts so that's not an option.
Is it possible to buy Apple Care for my laptop? I bought the extension originally (I know that doesn't make a difference) and it's been about 2.5 years since it's been under warranty. So can I buy Apple Care even though it's no longer under warranty? It'd be cheaper to do that then pay the $280. Thanks!

It's $134 w/ shipping but it has a bad fan connector. The fan connector would be difficult to resolder but I might have a possible solution. You'd have to be very adept at soldering tiny things.

Sad iPod - 1 month after warranty expires

4th Gen iPod, displaying sad iPod icon. I've already done a restore, and it worked for a while, but now its sometimens booting up, sometimes not (with sad iPod icon), sometimes playing for a while then crashing to sad iPod icon, occassionally making ominous clacking grinding noises. Looks like the HD is on its last legs already.
Anybody have any idea how much a repair is likely to cost? I like my portable music, but if these things are only going to last 13 months, it's not work $300/year to me.

Graybeard: The obvious conclusion is that Apple doesn't want to repair iPods - and not necessarily because the company just wants to sell us another iPod. The training, repair facilities, and logistics are probably more than Apple wants to deal with - especially since it would be in direct competition with the iPod repair cottage industry that has sprung up. It probably couldn't compete on price.
And the point is, there are repair alternatives to Apple that are just as convenient as Apple's own service would be. Call one of 4-5 companies in the US, they send a box, and about a week later your repaired iPod is back in your hands.
Is Apple walking a fine line here? Yes, probably so. But your only option isn't paying almost full price for a refurbished iPod.

Insignia TV flickering - any ideas? started 2 days after warranty expired.

My Insignia flat panel TV flickers after watching it for a couple hours. Then I have to turn the TV off and then on to make it better, but it's only good for a few minutes. Only by turning the TV off for an hour or so is it good for another couple of hours. The TV is about 3 years old. Anyone have any idea?

It definitely sounds like a heat issue. You might want to use a *poowerful* vacuum like a shop vac, and while the TV is unplugged, blow all the dust collected inside the unit. If that does not help, then a repair is needed.

How much will it cost to replace an iphone 4 after warranty expires?

I bought my iphone 4 off someone about 5 months ago an last night I accidentally dropped it in the toilet. Straight away it turned of BY ITSELF.. An I put it on rice straight away! It's been 48 hours an still nothing has happened it won't turn on or anything :( how much is this going to cost me considering the warranty is out and it's water damaged.. And can I still replace is considering its not under my name????

Firefox 3.6 needs the Java Second Generation Plugin which comes with newer versions than 1.6.0_03 - update Java, the latest version is 1.6.0_22

Keyboard Malfunctions 1 week outside warranty

Greetings:
(First off, I checked out the helpful troubleshooting hints page on Keyboard malfunctions when logging on here. No go.)
Just one week after my eMac's 1-year warranty expired, my keyboard's suddenly lost registering the left-right-down arrow keys, the keypad's 0,1,2,3, Enter and period keys. No drops, no spills. The only remotely possible "cause" is plugging in my Gizmo flash drive into the USB port and getting that "bad power, shutting this USB port down" message, but I've had that before without problems. Still, could've that scrambled some internal keyboard drivers somehow? I dunno. Just fishing!
If the keyboard's corrupted but good -- even after some last ditch surgery, can anyone recommend some (cheap!!) keyboard sources for a replacement?

What could cause an eMac's original keyboard to just suddenly stop registering a whole bank of keys (left-right-down arrow keys, the keypad's 0,1,2,3, Enter and period keys) without any drops or liquid spills or crumbs ever being involved? Could plugging in an USB device into the keyboard's USB port "the wrong way" cause a minor short-cicuit that would zap the keyboard's control circuitry? Any theory would be conforting. In my world, nothing happens without SOME cause!
