Hardware Rendering=broken preview (CS3)

Hey guys, im new to the forums, but I've recently encountered some strange behavior. I used to have dual monitors setup but only used one in bridge(didnt use the other for previews) and i was able to use hardware rendering just fine. Then i moved and i left the second monitor off and then images started displaying in a weird section of the preview pane, and part of it is translucent.
I enabled software rendering and it fixed the issue(as per in the support site, it said dual monitors can cause this) but the rendering is a bit slow.
How can i get it back working like it used to with hardware rendering?
Computer is:
Athlon 64 x2 6000+(3.01~ghz)
4gb DDR2 667
512 DDR3 Vram(ATI Radeon HD 3850 chip, with recently updated driver)
1tb WD Barracuda boot/cs3 installed on
640GB WD Green Scratch disk
Thanks in advance
-Josh

This is a hardware issue from the video card or driver.  You say you updated the driver and if this this the latest one prehaps the old one you had worked better.  Migtht try rolling back to the version where it worked.  If this does  not work you might have to replace the video card for something faster.

  • LR 5.0 slowly in rendering import previews (RAW/Canon 6D)

    Hi guys,
does anybody know s.th. about slow rendering imagepreviews in the import dialogue?
My LR 5 is as slow as a snail generating those previews.
Importing my RAWs form the EOS 6D (saved on a 95MB/s 32 BG SanDisk Extreme Pro) it renders only the 12 or 24 displayed previews and leaves out the rest (the next only when I'm scrolling down). For 12 images LR5 needs 8-10 seconds. LR4.4 does the same process for all 150 RAWs in 1-2 seconds.
It doesn't matter if I want to import to my workstation (Dell Precision T1650, 8core Intel Xeon E3-1240 V2, 16GB RAM, 64bit) via USB 3.0 (Reader & Port) or to my laptop (Dell Latitude E6400). So it must be LR, not my hardware.
Are there known issues with the Canon-RAW format? I just updated EOS firmware to 1.1.3, but the renderspeed stays the same. For 1 image 3-4 seconds single...
@ Adobe-Experts: Could you please look after this very soon. Importing to different catalogs is not fun...
    Thanks,
    Ralf

    Hi
I'm having a similar problem when importing Nikon NEFs into LR5 (true for two different cameras, D800 and D300). Rendering of previews is a) very slow (compared to LR4.4 installed on the same machine) and b) often incomplete, i.e. not for all files on the card a preview will be rendered (empty frames are displayed). Sometimes, scrolling the preview panel up and down remedies this, but there have been occasions where apart from rendering the first few previews, all the others remained empty no matter what I did. The irritating thing is that I have not found a pattern to this behaviour which would allow to find a root cause or which would allow a workaround.
Computer: i5-760 CPU, 8GB RAM, Win7 premium home edition. LR5 installed on a different physical drive than the catalog and pictures, and the cache file is yet on another drive.
I'm pretty confident that this is due to some issue in LR5 as importing with LR4 (or earlier versions, for that matter) showed none of these issues.

  • PDF Font Rendering in Preview/Safari on Mountain Lion

Since upgrading to 10.8.2 a few days ago, I have been unable to read any of the PDF  statements provided by my bank.  To be clear: there was never a problem reading these statements in 10.5, 10.6, or 10.7.  The files are not corrupted, nor are the fonts embedded within them.  The copies I have saved locally display font characters as boxes of varying colors and sizes rather than actual letters/numbers.  The same is true of new copies of the same files I've downloaded from by bank's servers.  Observe:
So I extracted the fonts embedded within this PDF, and installed them in the Font folder of my user library.  After doing so, the PDF renders in Preview like this:
    ....which is less than useful.
This PDF, and all the others affected by this issue do render properly in Adobe Reader 10.1.4 -- but that's not the point.  I'd much rather use Preview.  Has anyone else encountered this issue and solved it?
    Thanks.

Indeed, wiping out the caches is not a permanent solution.
I found a couple of threads in some tex newsgroups that discuss this problem. There doesn't seem to be a resolution. There was some discussion that Latex Equation Editor is no longer being developed, but LaTeXIt, a similar program shows a similar font corruption problem. Fonts are fine in Preview until using LaTeXIt (or Latex Equation Editor), when they get 'corrupted'. By that I mean that documents viewed in Preview often come up sans-serif, regardless of the original font, and often special characters, such as arrows above letters (indicating vectors) disappear. Keynote files that use those characters (from, for example, using LaTeXIt under Tiger) show corruption. Rebooting (and possibly simply logging out and back in) 'cures' the problem, ie, Preview and Keynote are once again happy. During all this, Acrobat is always happy.
This is kind of painful, since I give physics lectures using Keynote, and things like integral and summation signs and vectors and such are kind of nice to have around.
Someone has got to know what is going on!

  • Rendering: Larger Preview.... Stalls in Library Module.

I am running Lightroom 2.4 on a Windows Vista system.  I have found recently that when I use the library module and attempt to zoom in on a picture in that module the full size picture on screen reverts to a highly pixalated view (presumably the embeded low res jpeg from the Nikon RAW file) and I get the message "Rendering: Larger Preview..." and nothing at all happens.  If I then select the develop module the picture renders correctly, if following this I select the library module again all used to be well but now I get the message "Rendering:Develop..." and again nothing happening.
Has anyone encountered this problem and discovered a solution?

    John
Thanks for the input.  The problem certainly happens then but I am getting
it other times as well.  I found some advice on the forum about the problem
which suggests it is associated with MS Vista's complex file access
permision system.  It appears you have to give all users read write and
execute permission on all your Lightroom files.  I am trying that to see if
    it solves the problem.
    Thanks again

  • Stuck on "Rendering Standard Previews"

After importing images, Lightroom (2.4) is getting stuck in the "Rendering Standard Previews" process.  I have been sitting here for over an hour while Lightroom is stuck at 6 of 117.  This happened on an earlier import as well, and I ended up canceling that process -- it was stuck on 1 of 6.
Has anyone else seen this, and is there a fix?
    Thanks,
    Nick

Actually, I seem to also be stuck on "Preparing File for Editing" as I try to process a photo in Photoshop.  Somehow the "process" process is getting stuck.

  • Battlefield 2142 hardware renderer prob

Hello! I have just bought Sound blaster Li've 24 bit external because i cannot use internal sound card and i wanted a card which supports EAX. When I switch from sofware to hardware renderer in BF242 (its the only way to use eax) some sounds are interrupted. I already tried to switch from 24bits and 48 KHz to 6bits and 44. KHz cause i taught that USB connection was overloaded but nothing has changed. Does anyone know how to solve this because its really annoying? it would be very helpful. Thank you.

The problem is that you are trying to run BF242 in hardware mode when your sound card doesn't have the hardware on it to support that mode.
The SB Li've 24 bit (internal and external) is sad to say a software based sound card, meaning it does not have the EMU0K/2 chip on it which would allow it to run that game (or anything else for that matter) in hardware mode.

  • Lightroom pictures blurred in Library module - Rendering: Larger Preview...?

I am using the latest version of Lightroom running on a system using Vista Ultimate 64bit OS, an Intel Core i7 processor, 12 Gb of ram and two nVidia GTX295 video cards.  I problem that I am having is in the Library module, where, when I move from picture to picture, some pictures, at random, will load blurred.  The caption, in the lower center of the picture starts with "Loading from Previews" then goes to "Rendering: Larger Preview," and it stays there.  I can move to another picture which may or may not load properly.  This issue does not seem to affect the Develop module; pictures which load blurred in the library mode are crisp and clear in the Design module.
I did not have this problem running Windows XP!
Any suggestions to address this issue?
p.s. I have read a previous thread which suggested that deleting the preference file might be a solution.  I have done this, without success!
    jwp

My suggestions would be to backup and check the integrity of your catalog, to render standard previews for all images, and if necessary to delete the previews file and directory.

  • Weird colours with QuickTime sources, broken preview renders & crash at exit (CS4)

    Hi erveryone,
I have a strange problem in Premiere Pro CS4: Allmost all QuickTime MOV that I put in the timeline show weird, broken colours. At first I thought this was a problem with a specific codec, but I have now tried several codecs and pretty much every one shows up equally broken. The only codec that seems to work fine is the one that my Canon EOS 550D produces (1080p, H.264 I believe), but that one does not play smoothly (not that I would expect it to do on my machine). Strangely, H.264 in lower resolutions fails again. Other containers seem to be unaffected. Here is a screenshot of the effect:
Also, my preview renders (when rendering the effecs on the timeline) are similarly broken. They behave a bit erratically. Sometimes they are just black, showing nothing and sometimes they show a still frame of one of the previously viewed videos. Colours are messed up in a similar way, so I suspect a connection. Here is the same clip from the screenshow above, preview-rendered:
Also, upon exiting Premiere, it usually crashes. This is less of a problem, but still very weird behaviour.
Any ideas how I could solve this?
Infos about my system which might be of relevance:
Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 (education version)
Windows Vista 32bit (SP2, all current updates installed)
    4GB RAM
    Intel Core2 Duo
ATI X1300 Pro  256MB (with newest available driver)
    QuickTime 7.6.6
The system has been freshly installed (from factory image - hence the older OS) so no malware or anything similar should mess anything up. Only software installed except the Creative Suite is Google Chrome.
On my laptop (Win7 64bit, Intel i5, no separate graphics card, same QT version) none of these problems appear.
    Greetings,
       Florian

I think I found the solution. Some further digging revealed that I did not have as previously assumed the latest driver for my graphics card installed. I was mislead because the manufacturer (Dell) did provide some updates, but not all of them (none in the past two years to be exact). I grabbed the newest driver kit from the ATI website and installed it. Strangely, the installer produced several errors and I get another error message at startup, but I think only the control software was affected and not the driver itself.
After some first tests, QuickTime movies behave as expected, the preview renders are working again and the crashes on exit are also gone. Yay!
Strange how much trouble a driver which is otherwise working perfectly can cause.

  • Rendering VS Previews?

I have noticed when I do my RT previews the task managers shows both CPU cores working but when I render to a file for CD-ROM use only one of the cores is working. I have Premiere Pro 1.0. Is it any different in PP CS3?

Thanks for your reply. So you are PP CS3 will use all the cores (quad core) when rendering and during RT previews. IS this correct?

  • Useless rendering? Preview LAG

    Hi,
I am wondering if I should abandon the use of Adobe Premiere. I am unable to work in it as I can't really see what is going on considering I see 1 frame every few seconds on preview. I need to export the video to see what is going on.
    My system:
    i7 3770
    Windows 64 bit
    4GB RAM
    150GB Raptor HDD
    AMD Radeon HD7900
Completely wasting time in Premiere. Using 1080p source videos and it just isn't able to produce a preview with any reasonable FPS. I've rendered the whole thing, video, audio, nothing affects it. It plays ok for 3 seconds and then starts killing itself and beyond that I am pretty much guessing what is going on as I can't see anything.
I've heard that even people with 64GB of RAM and more computer power then me still get preview lags. Is Premiere a functional program? Do I need to sell both kidneys to buy a supercomputer to run previews?
What is the deal here? How can anyone use it?
    Thanks,

    Here's my system:
Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4770K CPU @ 3.50GHz, 3501 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
Installed Physical Memory (RAM)    16.0 GB
    EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770
    4Gb vRAM
    Driver Version    9.18.13.4411
    System: 2-disc SSD RAID
    Cache Files: SSD
    Media Files: 2TB Internal HD
    Project Files: 2TB Internal HD
    Export Files: 2TB Internal HD
I typically work with 1080p 23.076 files, H.264 in an MOV wrapper. The ONLY time I have preview problems is when I've done a lot of things in Speedgrade and throw in Warp Stabilizer and a bunch of transitions on short clips ... or say, get stupid and denoise a clip in AeFx before exporting.
Your 4GB system RAM isn't anymore than my video card has ... and if you have only one drive for everything, system, system cache, programs, program cache & previews, footage, the read-write roadblocks would be horrendous.
Highly recommend you spend some time on the Tweaker's Page over at the hardware forum listed in a side-bar on the PrPro "Overview" page. They talk about balancing a system ... having "matching" amounts RAM and cores and drives & video card and such, so that you don't blow money on one thing with something else screwing your system's flow up.

  • Datagrid Image Renderer Broken in CS SDK but not Flex project

Within a Photoshop Extension, I have a DataGrid which has an inline custom image renderer whose dataprovider is an ArrayCollection called "photos"  representing a list of photos and some metadata properties.  One of the properties "fileName" is concatenated with a path to a thumbnail image such as source="{'LR_AUTO/imported/thumbs/' + data.fileName}".
The dataprovider is bound to a LCDS DataService. When the extension is first launched, the dataservice initializes the dataprovider with the existing values for the "photos" arraycollection.  The thumbnail images are correctly shown.
However, when the DataService receives a new row and updates the photos dataprovider, the datagrid's new row shows a broken image for the thumbnail even though the path is correct.  I have dumped the photos dataprovider and verified that all information is correct.  When I close Photoshop and relaunch it from Flash Builder, once again LCDS initializes the photos ArrayCollection and THEN the thumbnail that previously showed as broken show up correctly.
I have a ColdFusion Directory Watcher Gateway that watches a directory where Lightroom auto-imports images from a tethered capture session.  When the camera sends Lightroom a new image, the new image is processed by Lightroom and moved to a target directory, and since ColdFusion's Directory Watcher is watching that targeted directory, ColdFusion will create a thumbnail image in a subfolder and notifiy LCDS that of the new image and related metadata.
*** This is the interesting part *** When Lightroom places new images in the target directory, this is propogated to the Photoshop Extension's datagrid, and the new row shows up as described earlier, showing a broken image for the thumbnail.  BUT, instead of Lightroom, if I manually copy images to the folder where ColdFusion is watching, then exact same code path is exectuted and in the Photoshop Datagrid the new row appears and THE THUMBNAIL IMAGE shows up correctly.
The difference seems to be only in how the images are put in the original target location.  The problem is when Lightroom puts them there, but it works when I put them there as a user.
*** More Interesting Info *** I have the Flex code for the Photoshop Extension duplicated in a standalone, non-CSSDK project using Flex 3.4 which I launch in a browser.  I have mirrored the code in the Photoshop extension, but in this manner, the problem does not exist.  With plain Flex 3.4 in a browser, whenever LCDS notifies the datagrid of a new photo record, the datagrid's new row ALWAYS shows the thumbnail correctly.
A primary difference in how the thumbnail image is rendered is that in a browser, the Flex 3.4 project accesses the image assets over the network, however, in the Photoshop Extension, the image asset WITH THE SAME RELATIVE PATH is accessed over the local file system.
    source="{'LR_AUTO/imported/thumbs/' + data.fileName}"
So in the case of the browser, this path is a relative URL and the image is retrieved over HTTP, however, in the PS Extension, the same path represents a file system path relative to the project folder.
Unfortunately, because the Flash Player (including APE) cannot access BOTH the network and the local filesystem, so I cannot change the Extension to use network access.
** The important part to remember is that when I stop the Flash Builder debug session and close Photoshop, then relaunch the debug with Photoshop, then all the images show up correctly in the Extension.
    Your advice is appreciated.
    Thank you!
    Steve

I expected that if my extension uses the local filesystem AND the network that I would get a Security Sandbox Exception as I recently described in this thread:

However, I just tried changing my datagrid image renderer to access the thumbnail via HTTP and the thumbnail issue after Lightroom export does not happen.

Furthermore, I can also open the image via the Photoshop DOM, and it does open correctly.  It seems that I do have a solution now, although I'm not certain as to why I'm not getting a Security Sandbox Exception as I described in the other post.

  • CSS not rendering in preview

I am creating a website that uses a stylesheet for viewing on
the web and one for print.
For web viewing the link tag is
    link
    rel=stylesheet href=styleweb.css media=screen.
For print the link tag is
    link
    rel=stylesheet href=styleweb.css media=screen.
Both are included in the code for each page, and they work in
    IE and Firefox.
However, when viewing in Design View, the page breaks - none

Is there a way to remedy this, or is this a Dreamweaver

It sounds as though you have accidentally turned off the
    display of
styles. Go to the View menu, and select Style Rendering. Make
    sure there
is a check mark alongside Screen Media Type and Display
    Styles. Clicking
them toggles them on and off.

  • Firefox Flash hardware acceleration broken in Windows 8 for AMD 4870

I've been having performance issues with Flash in Firefox on Windows 8 ever since I installed it, so I decided to try and get to the bottom of the issue, since Chrome's Pepper Flash plugin works flawlessly on the same machine. I decided to install Windows 7 as a dual-boot environment to do some testing, and installed the same version of Firefox (21), with all the same extensions, the same version of Flash (11.7) and the same display driver (Catalyst 13.1 Legacy). I was surprised to find that the performance issues I'd been having in Windows 8 were completely gone.
On closer inspection, that seems to be because the 'Use hardware acceleraton' checkbox is doing nothing in Windows 8. Whether it's checked or not, playing a beefy Flash video (one of Giant Bomb's HD progressive streams) uses 35-40% CPU and is pretty choppy. The exact same video, delivered via the exact same software but under Windows 7 is entirely smooth and CPU usage is around 5-10% with the checkbox ticked, and comparable to Windows 8 with hardware acceleration turned off.
In another test, I compared videos on Youtube with the information box turned on. In Windows 7 it's showing as software video rendering and accelerated video decoding regularly, changing to accelerated for both in full screen. With the exact same setup on Windows 8, it shows software rendering and decoding no matter what, with the associated higher CPU use and poorer video performance. Incidentally, reverting to Flash 10.3 on Windows 8 completely fixes the problem. Hardware acceleration works as it should in all scenarios. It seems to just be the 11 series that's affected.
Is this a known issue at all, and is there any sort of fix planned? Or is there a way to fix it now? Any help would be appreciated.

it seems that the problem might not be from adobe side after all!
    Windows 8 user,
open firefox and type   about:config      in the address bar and hit enter. Type  “webgl”  into the Filter box and then double click on the webgl.force-enabled option to change its value from false to true.
Problem solve...Radeon HD-7310 dont know for Nvidia but i assume it will work to.

  • LR5 import problem with rendering standard previews

When I import from an SD card in LR5, the first phase of the import works fine, then the second phase is to "render standard previews" and the import process stalls at photo #3. If I double click on one of the photos, and then go back to the grid view, the importing continues fine. What is happening and how can this be overcome. Thanks,
    [email protected]

I leave it until the bar at the top left of the screen which says 'rendering previews' has finished and disappeared, and I've also taken to using Task Manager to watch and wait until the cpu activity has reduced to zero. As you say, this can take some time.
If I then scroll through the grid of imported images, I find some that still have three dots, and which slowly disappear one by one as they are rendered. That is very tedious, so I go back to select all, wait for the metadata to be collected as shown by the bar, select 'render standard previews' - a new bar appears saying 'scanning existing previews', and when that has finished it puts up the rendering previews and starts rendering the ones that still had three dots on them. It then eventually finishes and the bar closes, but with the last lot, I had to repeat this three times before it scanned existing previews and then stopped instead of starting the 'rendering previews' bar again. Each time it added some more previews, until they had eventually been done, and there were no images in the grid view with three dots (other than the brief flash of dots as I scroll normally).
I've also got in the habit of clicking on 'all photographs' after opening LightRoom and waiting until Task Manager shows it has finished it's 'housekeeping', before starting any work. This seems to minimise 'Out of Memory' dialogs or 'Not Responding' situations.

  • Hardware Specifics Check - (Preview Window Choppy)

So I upgraded from CS6 to CC and what use to play smoothly in the preview window is now playing choppy. What I have discovered is that if I loop the troubled spot 1-6 times, it plays smoothly and will so long as the project is open. After the project is closed and reopened, it resets and all the footage starts smooth for 1-3 seconds, and then bogs down. This is with the preview monitor's resolution set to the lowest. I really hope it's not my hardware, but if someone would care to verify my specs, that would be great.
    OS: Windows 8.1
Graphics: XFX DD Radeon R7970 3GB DDR5, 384 bit BUS, GPU Clock 925MHz Memory 1375MHz
    CPU: Intel i7-3820 CPU @3.6GHz (8 CPUs)
    Memory: 64 GB DDR3
Disk: 7200 rpm connected through Sata and USB 3.0
The problem is not limited to HD formats, I can't even preview standard definition formats without choppy playback 2-3 seconds in.
I've also adjusted the render paramater between PERFORMANCE and MEMORY, both equally seem to deliver the same results.
It's a bummer because I was able to edit RED footage without a problem, now it's just ridiculous.

It's weird because in CS6 everything was smooth. I don't know if it's CC or
something on my hardware that needs to be turned on or disabled.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling using CC cleaner. Same results.
UPDATE: My hard disk transfer rate is capped at 50-60mb/s during playback. Could this be the problem?
