Hardware scan "warning" on new nvidia card

Hi,
Im on a new E431, win7 64-bit, with a NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M GPU.
Running a hardware scan gives a warning for this card in regards to the "Stress test". Result code is: WVC00R000-UJ8ZWI.
Anyone have a similar problem or able to shed some light on what this could mean? Research has come up with nothing, and LSC gives no hints as to what this implies.
Many thanks,
Nic

  • New nVidia cards to be supported

At the road show event yesterday, I spoke with one of the vendors and also one of the Adobe guys (I won't name him for his sake, but trust me, he's one who would know all about this development). He mentioned two cards that have forthcoming official support. One is the GTX 470 and the other is the Quadro 3800M (the mobile version of the 3800). I asked about the GTX 480 and he just said that basically it's not being tested in the labs right now, but the 470 is everywhere and is a pretty safe bet.
As for the mobile chipset, they said that there are not any current plans to support other mobile chipsets...not that it won't happen, but it's not within their current focus.
Use that information however you choose.

I agree with Mr. McIntyre, and have been planning to add this thought for about 3 weeks.
Seemingly, a number of CUDA capable cards will technically enable the MPE, but how well and with what unknown side effects? There are tens of millions of G92 cards in the channel, along with newer GT 240's, GTS 250's, etc. From the feedback on the hack, the MPE kicks in on all of 'em.
The last thing Adobe wants, needs, or could afford is to have a platoon of tech service people trying to troubleshoot hardware problems in anemic computers running consumer AVCHD files on 3 year old dual-core systems with low end CUDA video cards. It would be impossible to make these older systems edit AVCHD, and the only thing this legion of pissed off consumers would remember is that expensive Adobe software couldn't work on what they figured was a really nice computer.
I have no idea if the hack was foreseen, but it certainly serves to give Adobe valuable feedback. We all want to see Adobe establish the lowest bar for certifying CS5 goodness, but it would be suicide for them to do so on a too-cheap card.
Heck, it's entirely likely that the card will not prove to be the hold-up on certification, but rather Adobe's difficult decision on what the rest of the computer comprises. In my month or so browsing this forum, I have learned that many consumer camcorders and DSLR's use a compression engine (AVCHD) that really socks it to the computer. There are apparently ways around the issue, transcoding to a more CPU friendly format, but how many regular Joe's are going to do this? They'll call Adobe and want them to fix it over the phone. It can't be done, and all that'll happen is that Adobe will waste money on tech support and end up with angry customers.
I'm one of those weirdos who researches tech purchases for a month before pulling the trigger and still was caught flat-footed on the AVCHD gremlin. Now I know, thanks mainly to this forum and a few others, that my Canon T2i is going to be hard on my AMD quad-core computer. I'm now researching solutions, and calling Adobe to complain isn't on the slate, nor will it be.
Adobe has seemingly done a bang-up job with the MPE and thorough 64 bit utilization. There are a buzzillion older CUDA cards "out there" which will get the green button to light up, but the rest of the computer is far below snuff for editing video. Adobe simply can't do anything about it.
The hack is a nice compromise - we tech heads get a chance to enable cheaper cards we already have in possession and Adobe gets good feedback on where the bottom might lie vis-a-vis usability. In the end, I suspect that the company will certify only the expensive cards, simply because they are likely to be surrounded by other components that can handle the stringent needs of video editing. And until Adobe gets a lot of numbers crunched, there's no way they are going to open the floodgates to lower and middle level systems owned by confused, angry consumers.
I don't know the sales figures, but ya gotta guess that for every GTX 470 or 480 sold, there are 100 GTS 250's sold, let alone GT 240's. It would be pointless for Adobe to render itself hostage through warranty tech service to owners of Core 2 dual cores and 8800 GT cards, hoping to get the MPE up and running with stutterless playback. There are tens of millions of students eligible to buy Adobe at huge discount who have such systems.
Nope, nope, nope. If I were Adobe, I'd sit on the high end cards until I could appropriately assess my exposure. I'd bet that 95% of the computer systems held by consumers can't edit or play back AVCHD well, regardless of whether the video card can enable the MPE. It won't be the video card specs that determine certification, it'll be the projected tidal wave of phone calls coming into tech support. By certifying only the $300 plus cards, Adobe will cut out millions of well-meaning, hopeful customers from warranty service on PrePro - and appropriately so. Their computers simply can't handle the footage and no one can do anything at all about that, save buying another computer.
Of course, I know nothing of the company and maybe Adobe will patiently take every call they get.
In the meantime, those of us who can figure it out and are willing to do the legwork have access to the MPE features at reduced cost. Win-win!

  • Problems with new NVIDIA-card

    Hi,
a few weeks ago, my old graphics card (NVidia 7600) got broken, so i upgraded it to a NVidia 9600 card. First everything seems to work, so there was nothing to reinstall. Compositing of KDE4 works (or seems to) , but whenever I want to play a game it lags. Even glxgears lags while saying something about "5151 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1030.194 FPS".
Yesterday I tried the second Linux OS on my computer, Ubuntu 8.10, and there I can play games. I think I can remember trying to play games before Xorg upgrade, so I think it is not to blame.
Can anyone help me? Do I have to delete some configs or reinstall something?
Edit: I also tried it without compositing and on obenbox, it lags the same.

  • New graphic card Geforce gtx 750 ti failing on Hp pavilion H8-1010be

    Hello
So i Got a new gigabyte GV-N75TOC graphic card for my Hp pavilion h8 1010-be. When I boot it up i get the intro blue screen and that's it. i hear a single beep, another after a while and then a series of short beeps and a black screen. The fans are running of my graphic card, I did plug it in. When i reboot with old graphic card all works, so didn't pull anything out by accident. The power is also higher on my pc then needed for the graphic card so this should be fine. I did try uninstalling current graphic card drivers first but this didn't help.  It actualy sounds exactly like this http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware/Problem-installing-a-new-Video-Card-on-HP-Pavilion-HPE...
I was wondering if you could provide me with anymore direct help then talk to producer, which i have sent a tickit to aswell.

  • Photoshop CS6 constant 25% CPU Usage with Nvidia card (nvoglv64.dll)

    Hi,
i'm using Adobe Photoshop CS6 (Cloud) and have the latest version installed. I experience a high cpu problem when i want to zoom in the picture, then sometimes the cpu load of the CS6 process is constant on 25%. I tried the graphic advanced settings in CS6 from light, normal, extended. With the light setting it happens not so often, but sometimes it is there.
My driver version is 310.90, but this happened also with previous versions or with beta 313.96.
My graphic card is a Gigabyte GeForce GTX 470 Super Overclock with two different monitors connected.
Does anyone else have this problem?
I want to buy a newer Nvidia card in the near future, but it would be not so good if the problems persists.
Here you can see a screenshot from the Process-Explorer.
I can work more or less with CS6, that is not the problem, but the constant cpu load bothers me.
Maybe someone have some ideas to solve this?
    Thanks!
    Bye

Photoshop demands a lot of the system, but it doesn't normally run in a loop like that.  It sounds like you have a specific nVidia driver problem.
    Does everything else work right?
You might see if nVidia offers any advice on their support site for how to clean old driver remnants out of your system that might have accumulated, then install the latest driver again.
Have you tried changing the various settings in Edit - Preferences - Performance, in the [Advanced] section?  Your card should be capable of Advanced operation, but maybe as a workaround you could try Basic mode (making sure to close and restart Photoshop before testing).  If nothing else it could help isolate the issue further.   Since in Normal and Advanced modes the monitor color management is done in the GPU (and in the CPU in Basic mode), it might be interesting to see whether switching to Basic helps.  If it does, you should review what color profiles you have set up for your monitors.  Profiles are complex beasts and they can be screwed up in a variety of ways and cause pretty weird things to happen.
    Good luck.

@sir - Works fine with proprietary driver.  Power supply is plenty large for this card.  It works fine under xfce.  The only features for the NVC0 series (this is an NVC3) that isn't the same as the others is "decode videos" which I took to mean VDPAU.  All other relevant features are the same as the NV50 series.

  • New Graphics Card - NVIDIA Geforce GTX 690

    Hi
We want to replace our NVIDIA Quadro 4000 with a newer card.
The NVIDIA Geforce GTX seems to take more advantage of the CUDA Technology - is this true?
And we use this computer only for editing with PrPro.
So we thik about the newest NVIDIA Geforce GTX 690:
    http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-690
This is not certified - would you recommend it?
Which is the best certified card?
    TIA

The above gentlemen are correct, and there is absolutely no need for a "certified" card they both work fine you may have to add the proper name of the card to the Adobe "cuda_supported_cards.txt file".  Take a look at our Premiere Pro BenchMark PPBM5 and see many non-certified nVidia cards on the list

I've got a choice between nVidia Gt 640 with 4 GB or ram or the AMD 7850 with 2 GB. The nVidia cards are a bit cheaper, but I want to be sure they are good enough. The card that came with my PC won't run the oil paint filter and is causing problems in Photoshop. I need something more powerful. Which is a better buy, or are they similar? I do some video editing and also use filters like oil paint a lot. I want a video card that will speed things up a bit.

I do not see anything in the Windows Task Managers user interface that show GPU performance or usage. Sysinternals Process explorer does plot usage of machine resources like CPU, GPU, Memory, I/O.  I don't know if Photoshop ever stresses a Display adapters GPU. Sure it uses it but I think a GPU can just do so much and how effective it is depend on what you doing.  For example if I use a mixer brush and one of the fancy new Fan thick wet brushes and rapidly start stroking. Photoshop performance lags way behind my brush strokes.  When I use a filter liquify and rapidly stroke Photoshop performance is instantaneous. Looking at the Process explorer. The GPU usage looks the same in both features.  I think Programs like Premier Pro would use GPU more heavier then Photoshop.  In Photoshop video rendering does not even seem to use the GPU.
Heavy GPU use looks more like this:

  • HP Pavilion p6, hangs on post with new grafik card Nvidia GTX750Ti

Hi, i have an p6-2056sc, with a new grafik card gtx750ti (nvidia) hangs on post screen, i have updated the bios to the latest and change the PSU to an 430Watts, but still it won't boot, the card works in another pc so it seems ok, so what could be wrong ? if i put the old graficcard back it works again.

    Hi,
Did your PC ship with Win 8 or Win 7?
Your power supply seems to have enough power to run the card. Are all internal connections for power being made to the graphics card? Some graphics cards need additional four or six pin power connections to run the card.
The only other thing I could think are is "secure boot". If your PC shipped with Win 7 that should not be a factor.
The motherboard slot you are connecting the graphics card to should be enabled in BIOS (you are using this slot for your old card) so that should not be the problem.
Here is a guide on selecting graphics cards written by a very knowledgeable forum member. Maybe it will help.
    I am out of ideas??

  • New MacBook Pro NVidia Card & Float

    Hello,
I need some help making a decision before buying a new MBP.
Does the MacBook Pro switch to from ATI to NVDIA cards mean a kind of downgrade for using Color, as it won't allow 32 bit float?
    Cheers,
    Gerry

I feel sure that the lack of support for Nvidia cards will be addressed sooner rather than later.
Or they will avoid the issue and include software based rendering and make it GFX card agnostic....
Either way, the new machines are just so pretty, how could you NOT buy one.
    Cheers,
    Toby

  • I wish to know whether the new NVidia Quadro K2200 graphic card is compatible with the Mercury Playback Engine.  Thanks

Hi.  I wish to know whether the new NVidia Quadro K2200 and K4200 are compatible with the Mercury Playback Engine in Adobe Premiere Pro CS6.  My old graphic card NVidia Quadro FX580 is not listed and not effective apparently because Mercury Playback Engine is effective as from 1Gb RAM. I use a HP workstation and AVCHD (AVCCAM) and DSLR full HD.  Thanks.

It is compatible, but why anyone would want such a weak and slow card at a premium price is beyond me. See Tweakers Page - What video card to use? and GeForce GTX980 vs Quadro k4200 (2200) #2.

  • Failed Hardware Scan and other issues E440

    Hi all,
This is probably more rant than anything, but I wanted to give a heads up to others too.
I have a ThinkPad E440 that is a year old. From the very first time I turned it on, there have been issues. The first hardware scan (via Lenovo Solution Center - LSC) showed a warning for the Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 Local Connection Test. There were also tons of System Events that always show up in the "Configuration History" part of the LSC. You can look at the calendar and tell exactly which days I used the computer because there will be System Events generated each day. Things like app crashes and failed drivers.
In July 2014, I got the first warning for the 16 GB SSD - the SMART Short Self-Test. By February this year it showed as failed for each hardware scan (these were initially set up to run monthly).
Also the whole time I've had it the touch screen would just stop working at some point and I would have to reboot to get it working again.
I finally called Lenovo on March 30th, before my warranty expired. When I called that time, I didn't realize the hard drive failure was the SSD. So they sent me a new 500 GB drive. I also added the other things into the case when I talked to them. For the wireless issue they suggested making sure the driver was up to date. I did this and let them know when I called back that it was up to date and still having the warning. So I called them to tell them to tell them about the wireless and also that I realized it was the SSD having the failure, not the main drive. The first case had already been closed even though none of the other items were addressed.
So they opened another case (this is #2). They said to mail them the laptop since the wireless issue would probably be on the board and it wasn't something I could fix myself. They sent a box with a prepaid overnight shipping label. I was very sick for a few days so I sent it back to them on April 10th (a Friday). Via UPS I saw it was delivered on Saturday. Work was performed on it Monday, April 13th and sent back to me that very day. I received it on April 14th. This part of the service has been excellent - very fast response.
Being in IT, I included a letter with the laptop that outlined the issues that should have been in the case. I also printed the hardware scans and what the system events looked like.
When I got the laptop back, the sheet inside said they had replaced the Speaker because of Distorted Sound. This was not even on the list even though I had noticed it. I didn't even power up the laptop before calling them again - yes, I was furious! Plus our power was out...
So this was noon on the 14th. They opened case #3 and sent me ANOTHER BOX so I could send it back.
After our power came back on the 15th, I powered up my laptop. I opened the browser (I have it set to restore the previous session) and there was a sexually explicit video on YouTube. I opened the other browser and there was a different video on YouTube. So this person was watching YouTube instead of fixing my laptop. I looked through both browser histories and there was quite a bit of activity while my laptop was at the repair center... I ran the hardware scan - still failed and a warning for the wireless. They really hadn't done anything.
I also found two pictures of the repair person in the recycle bin...
So I called back. I was LIVID! They opened another case (this is #4). And sent me ANOTHER BOX. I finally learned the other day that once a case is opened, it cannot be edited or added to at all. Instead, they close the other case and open a new one. I guess their turnaround time for closing cases is excellent! I've never seen a system like that - and I've used a lot of them.
I got a really nice, patient fellow on the line. He took all my info (again). I emailed him the pictures, screen captures of the YouTube videos, the letter I had sent - everything. He entered as much into the new case as he could - he talked to one of the supervisors to make sure he did it right. Somehow he flagged it so that the laptop would get more attention (time) at the repair facility. He also opened a separate case (an escalation ticket?) for a supervisor to call me regarding the person's conduct at the repair facility. He said they would call me that day. (It's now the 25th and I've never heard from anyone)
So, he sent me ANOTHER BOX. I've built up quite a stack of them.
Our power was out AGAIN from the 17th through the 19th (don't get me started).
I noticed a hardware scan had now gotten a failure on the main hard drive. So I called them on the 21st to add this to the case before sending the laptop back. The girl said they can't add anything to an existing case or edit it at all once it's opened. She would have to open a new case and SEND ME ANOTHER BOX. I told her to forget it because I was ready to send it in and didn't want to wait for another box. I also asked for a status on that "escalation case" where the supervisor was supposed to call me. In order to do this she, yes, wait for it, had to open ANOTHER CASE!! So they would know I wanted a status. I'm completely dumbfounded.
So I sent it back on the 21st. This time I practically wiped it. I had already removed all my files the last time, but I had left my bookmarks and browser history intact.  I set up a guest logon with admin privileges. I updated my letter and printed off more stuff to include with the box. On one sheet I had only the case number, the serial number and machine type. On another sheet I had "DO NOT SEPARATE THIS PAPERWORK FROM THE LAPTOP" and the case number. I put this sheet on top (The guy on the 15th said my letter and stuff may have gotten separated from the laptop once it was delivered to the repair facility). I used a ton of staples so it would all stay together. I included in my letter the failure on the main hard drive and asked if they could look at it. I wrote about having to open a new case if I wanted to include it.
They received it on the 22nd. A nice gentleman from the repair facility called me that day asking about the password. that. was. written. on the sheet they have you fill out. I told him what happened last time and also mentioned the hard drive failure and asked if he could look into it. He said they would.
I received my laptop back yesterday morning. The sheet that came with it said they had "replaced the following parts to complete the repair of your laptop."
    Part Description                                           Symptom
IMAGE                                                             Replaced due to engineering change
    System board                                                 Network card error
Hard disk drive                                                Network card error
    ECA-WIRELESS                                            <no symptom listed>
There was also a sheet saying they had installed a factory preload of software and I needed to install Lenovo and Windows updates.
When I booted it up, the first thing I noticed, in the lower right corner was:
    Windows 8.1
    SecureBoot isn’t configured correctly
    Build 9600
I ran a hardware scan. Well, I tried. It stopped part way through and said it finished successfully but most of the tasks showed up as cancelled. I tried to run it again - issues - rebooting ensued. It said the LSC wasn’t available and that I should try again or reboot.
Tried several times. Then got what I guess is the new BSOD - kinder, gentler:
Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're just
collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you. (xx% complete)
If you'd like to know more, you can search online later for this error: DRIVER_CORRUPTED_EXPOOL
Even though the LSC said my Lenovo files were all up to date, I ran the Update. And first I had to download a new version of Update. Then I downloaded all of the Lenovo updates and installed them (there were quite a few). The BIOS update failed. While I was doing the Lenovo downloads, I got a light blue screen but no text (I was out of the room so I'm not sure what happened). Did CTRL-ALT-DEL and it shows only IE and Task Manager as applications that are running. Could not “Switch to” IE. Hitting window key to go to start didn't do anything. So I had to restart.
By 3pm yesterday there were 34 system events in the configuration history.
I ran the hardware scan again after I updated the Lenovo files, and you guessed it! Failure on the SSD (SMART Short Self-Test) and warning on the wireless. Nothing had changed. Except hardware scan is acting different than it did before I sent in the laptop for repairs. When it finishes, it instantly closes and just shows 100% complete. When I click on "see last results" it shows a screen called
    Log Information,
    Canceled 04/24/2015 n:nn pm
You have not done a hardware test on your computer
And the calendar in LSC only shows the very first hardware scan I did on Friday. Even the hardware scan screen shows the date and time of the last scan. It also shows the error code. In order to see exactly what is failing, I have to sit there and watch it very closely and snap a picture of the screen as soon as the error (or warning) shows up.
When I would try to run Windows update, it would hang up PC Settings. I couldn't even kill it using task manager because it didn't show up as a task. During this, I got a flag saying the firewall wasn't turned on. I tried to turn it on, but clicking on Turn on Windows Firewall didn't do anything. I tried to setup my Microsoft account but that just hung too.
I ended up running Windows Update FOUR TIMES to get all the updates installed. Every time I ran it, it said "Done!" and I would run it again and more would show up. The last time was this morning.
At some point, the error about SecureBoot went away.
Then, I created a bootable BIOS update disk. Following the ReadMe instructions, I went through ThinkPad Setup and verified several values. Of note:
Secure Boot was DISABLED. According to the ReadMe file, this should be ENABLED in Windows 8.1. I enabled it.
Under Startup/Boot, according to the ReadMe that came with the BIOS update, UEFI/Legacy Boot is supposed to be set at UEFI Only for Windows 8.1. Mine was set to "Both". I changed it.
In Startup, OS Optimized Defaults was DISABLED, even though it says right there (and in the BIOS update ReadMe) it should be ENABLED to meet Microsoft Windows 8 Certification Requirement.
After these updates, I flashed the new BIOS.
Then, I ran hardware scan again...
Now I have TWO failures on the SSD: Random Seek Test and SMART Short Self-Test. Great.
In the Event Viewer (that I recently discovered), it says my disk has a bad block. It just says The device, \Device\Harddisk\DR1, has a bad block. I assume this is the SSD...
There are 867 events in the event viewer - Critical, Error, and Warning...
Fifty-two of these are from October 7, 2013 - before my little laptop was a glimmer.
The rest are from when Lenovo had it and yesterday and today.
64 of them are the disk error.
341 are from DeviceSetupManager. 65 of those are from failed driver installs. 69 are for not being able to establish a connection to the windows update service. 64 are from not being able to establish a connection to the Windows Metadata and Internet Services (WMIS).
3 times it's rebooted without cleanly shutting down
60 of them are from Service Control Manager and say The TDKLIB service failed to start due to the following error: The system cannot find the file specified.
One of them says {Registry Hive Recovered} Registry hive (file): '\??\C:\Users\Default\NTUSER.DAT' was corrupted and it has been recovered. Some data might have been lost.
16 are warnings that various processors in Group 0 are being limited by system firmware.
12 say the certificate for local system with thumbprint <bunch of hex numbers> is about to expire or already expired.
108 are warnings for failure to load the driver \Driver\WUDFRd for various devices
    16 are application errors
One is for the computer rebooting from a "bug check"
15 are for name resolutions timing out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.
10 are for SecureBoot being disabled.
    14 for services terminating unexpectedly
15 are for WLAN Extensibility Module has stopped
61 are for applications not being able to be restarted because the application SID does not match Conductor SID
12 are for activation of CLSID timing out waiting for the service wuauserv to stop
So, I'll call them on Monday and open. a. new. case (#5?) - but really 7. And get A NEW BOX.
    I'll keep you updated!

Hi amycdero and welcome to the HP Forum,
I understand that you are having scanning and printing issues after upgrading to Mavericks OS X v10.9.1. I will try my best to help you resolve this issue.
In this document for Mac OS X: Scanning Software Does Not Open or Stops Responding are steps the may help you with your scanning issue.
