Hardware/Software needed for WebForms?

My company is planning on migrating a Forms 3.0 application to
WebForms (we need to support both Win95/98 PCs and Macintoshes).
I understand the basic 3-tier structure (i.e. database server,
application server and browser based client), but I'm still
unsure of what hardware and software is actually needed for the
application server (especially since Oracle keeps changing the
names of their products). Can anyone tell me what the hardware
and software requirements are for a WebForms (w/reports)
application server assuming that I don't have anything yet (NT
or Unix)? Also, what are the general memory/disk requirements if
the server needs to support about 100 concurrent connections?
Thanks,
Douglas Scott

John,
there is an Oracle marketing slogan about the Norwegian tax
ministery (or so) running with about 5000 users concurrently.
But they are only dealing with the number not further details.
I'm just pushing a customer with a +- 100 form app to the web
and they want ot go production in mid February. They (especially
their admins) are very open to the technology and there are only
some issues on prinitng from forms using customs documents,
invoices and delivery notes. But I think after some changing of
the print philosphy it will be working.
If you are interested mail me and I will try to give you some
hints after production.

  • Software needed for the USB device, "USB Interface Controller TEST2.0"

My mother recently acquired a digital camera. She acquired it from a second-hand store, which did not include an interface cable or software. The manual (and the USB port on the camera) indicates that a male-male USB cable is necessary for photos to be copied to the hard drive.
I was not successful in locating such a cable at any local electronics store (I assume such a cable is now out-of-date). I purchased one from a seller on eBay. The brand is "e circuit electronics".
Upon powering up the camera with the cable connected to it and the computer, the following message appeared:
"Software needed for the USB device "USB Interface Controller TEST2.0" is not available. Would you like to look for the software on the Internet?"
I clicked "Yes". After an approximate two-minute wait, another message appeared stating:
"Software Update is not able to connect to the Internet. Please check your configuration and try again."
I deleted, "Software Update Preferences" in the Preferences folder inside the System Folder, without solving the problem. How do I solve the issue of allowing Software Update to connect to the Internet?

Thank you for your continued assistance, BDAqua. Unfortunately, the driver you linked to does not seem to be compatible with the camera. It is a driver for the V20 model, whereas my model would correspond to be a V2755, as referenced from a list of other Vivicam models when during a search at the Open Drivers web site.
From the system requirement about the card reader you gave me, it will not work, as this system is running 9.1. I am hesistant to upgrade this computer to 9.2, as I have experienced system unstability with that version, with even the 9.2.2 update applied.
In the mean time, I have e-mailed Vivitar regarding this issue, but have as of yet received a reply.
I am not certain as to other specifics to give you, in order to solve the Software Update problem. Please elaborate.
Yes eww, the computer in question is able to fully connect to the Internet for all that I need. I am fully aware of the difference between a computer connecting to the Internet, and a computer connecting to a digital camera. I have 15 years of Macintosh experience.

  • Which is the software needed for an installation on a production server

    Hi,
which is the software needed for an installation on a production server (windows 2008) of Forms/Reports 11g ?
I mean the old 10g stand alone forms and report service but un 11g release ..
    Regards

For application deployments (production), you will need the following software. The same is true for a design-time environment.
    1. Weblogic Server 10.3.2
    2. Fusion Middleware 11.1.1.2
See my update in the following:
    Re: Some FORMS quesion...
All products are contained within the Fusion Middleware (Forms, Reports, Portal, Discoverer) distribution. This includes Builders, Runtime components, HTTP Server, Web Cache, etc. During the installation process, you choose which you want to install.

  • List of hardware we need for implementing APO DP,PPDS &TPVS

    Hi Gurus,
Can anyone please let me know the list of space and harddisk we need to get for implementing DP, PPDS & TPVS to one organization ,
We have around 50 users over with all the modules listed above
    DP--- cvc max 50,000
    PPDS---2000 products 3 locations
It will be really great help.
    Thanks

    Raj,
Not enough info.  However, you are in luck.  SAP offers a do-it-yourself web app called QUICKSIZER in which you can answer the questions yourself.
Quicksizer output will give you storage reqments, and it will also create a standardized measure of processing power requirements.  This standard measure is understood by all the major hardware vendors, and they can quickly give you the actual hardware you need to buy, based on your desired manufacturer, CPU, and operating system.
    http://service.sap.com/quicksizer
I suggest you download the 'Using the Quicksizer' docs first and give them a read.
    http://service.sap.com/~form/sapnet?_SHORTKEY=00200797470000071577&
Then go into the app and create a project.  You can save the project and re-open it if it takes you several sessions to complete the data entry.

  • Is an Antivirus software needed for a Mac OS X Mountain Lion?

I am relatively new to the Apple Mac OS X Mountain Lion. Could anyone tell me if I need an antivirus program for my Macbook Air? And is there any software to clean my Mac of all unnecessary files. Thanks in advance.

    How to maintain a Mac
    1. Make redundant backups, keeping at least one off site at all times. One backup is not enough. Don’t back up your backups; make them independent of each other. Don’t rely completely on any single backup method, such as Time Machine. If you get an indication that a backup has failed, don't ignore it.
    2. Keep your software up to date. In the Software Update preference pane, you can configure automatic notifications of updates to OS X and other Mac App Store products. Some third-party applications from other sources have a similar feature, if you don’t mind letting them phone home. Otherwise you have to check yourself on a regular basis. This is especially important for complex software that modifies the operating system, such as device drivers. Before installing any Apple update, you must check that all such modifications that you use are compatible.
    3. Don't install crapware, such as “themes,” "haxies," “add-ons,” “toolbars,” “enhancers," “optimizers,” “accelerators,” "boosters," “extenders,” “cleaners,” "doctors," "tune-ups," “defragmenters,” “firewalls,” "barriers," “guardians,” “defenders,” “protectors,” most “plugins,” commercial "virus scanners,” "disk tools," or "utilities." With very few exceptions, this stuff is useless, or worse than useless. Above all, avoid any software that purports to change the look and feel of the user interface.
The more actively promoted the product, the more likely it is to be garbage. The most extreme example is the “MacKeeper” scam.
As a rule, the only software you should install is that which directly enables you to do the things you use a computer for — such as creating, communicating, and playing — and does not modify the way other software works. Use your computer; don't fuss with it.
Safari extensions, and perhaps the equivalent for other web browsers, are a partial exception to the above rule. Most are safe, and they're easy to get rid of if they don't work. Some may cause the browser to crash or otherwise malfunction. Use with caution.
Never install any third-party software unless you know how to uninstall it. Otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
The free anti-malware application ClamXav is not crap, and although it’s not routinely needed, it may be useful in some environments, such as a mixed Mac-Windows enterprise network.
    4. Beware of trojans. A trojan is malicious software (“malware”) that the user is duped into installing voluntarily. Such attacks were rare on the Mac platform until sometime in 2011, but are now increasingly common, and increasingly dangerous.
There is some built-in protection against downloading malware, but you can’t rely on it — the attackers are always at least one day ahead of the defense. You can’t rely on third-party protection either. What you can rely on is common-sense awareness — not paranoia, which only makes you more vulnerable.
Never install software from an untrustworthy or unknown source. If in doubt, do some research. Any website that prompts you to install a “codec” or “plugin” that comes from the same site, or an unknown site, is untrustworthy. Software with a corporate brand, such as Adobe Flash Player, must be acquired directly from the developer. No intermediary is acceptable, and don’t trust links unless you know how to parse them. Any file that is automatically downloaded from a web page without your having requested it should go straight into the Trash. A website that claims you have a “virus,” or that anything else is wrong with your computer, is rogue.
In OS X 10.7.5 or later, downloaded applications and Installer packages that have not been digitally signed by a developer registered with Apple are blocked from loading by default. The block can be overridden, but think carefully before you do so.
Because of recurring security issues in Java, it’s best to disable it in your web browsers, if it’s installed. Few websites have Java content nowadays, so you won’t be missing much. This action is mandatory if you’re running any version of OS X older than 10.6.8 with the latest Java update. Note: Java has nothing to do with JavaScript, despite the similar names. Don't install Java unless you're sure you need it. Most people don't.
    5. Don't fill up your boot volume. A common mistake is adding more and more large files to your home folder until you start to get warnings that you're out of space, which may be followed in short order by a boot failure. This is more prone to happen on the newer Macs that come with an internal SSD instead of the traditional hard drive. The drive can be very nearly full before you become aware of the problem. While it's not true that you should or must keep any particular percentage of space free, you should monitor your storage consumption and make sure you're not in immediate danger of using it up. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of free space on the startup volume for normal operation.
If storage space is running low, use a tool such as the free application OmniDiskSweeper to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the most space. Move rarely-used large files to secondary storage.
    6. Relax, don’t do it. Besides the above, no routine maintenance is necessary or beneficial for the vast majority of users; specifically not “cleaning caches,” “zapping the PRAM,” "resetting the SMC," “rebuilding the directory,” "defragmenting the drive," “running periodic scripts,” “dumping logs,” "deleting temp files," “scanning for viruses,” "purging memory," "checking for bad blocks," "testing the hardware," or “repairing permissions.” Such measures are either completely pointless or are useful only for solving problems, not for prevention.
The very height of futility is running an expensive third-party application called “Disk Warrior” when nothing is wrong, or even when something is wrong and you have backups, which you must have. Disk Warrior is a data-salvage tool, not a maintenance tool, and you will never need it if your backups are adequate. Don’t waste money on it or anything like it.

  • Hi , Need Help Understanding proper software needed for my new macbook first time having it

im using a macbook pro 13inch and i just want to know what software i have to install to keep it up to date and safe from the flashplayer problem

Keep the system software up to date is all you really need to do. The malware to which you refer had nothing to do with Adobe's Flashplayer.
    Helpful Links Regarding Malware Protection
An excellent link to read is Tom Reed's Mac Malware Guide.
Also, visit The XLab FAQs and read Detecting and avoiding malware and spyware.
    See these Apple articles:

If you require anti-virus protection I recommend using ClamXav.
You should upgrade OS X to the latest version, 10.8.3, provided your computer is able to run Mountain Lion:
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later

             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

  • Internal hardware drivers needed for HP 2000 Notebook.

Perhaps someone can help me pull a pawn shop "bargain" back from a life of exclusive Linux service.  The previous owner had appearantly attempted to retrograde the notebook from Windows 8 to Windows 7 using a Win7 recovery disc and an image of another computer. So of course the entire system, recovery partition and all, were formatted away and replaced with an unauthorized and broken install of Windows.  I'm OK running Ubuntu on if for now, but I will eventually want to install a fresh copy of Windows and can't find the internal hardware drivers for my HP 2000 Notebook (product number C2M42UA) anywhere on HP support website.  Before wiping away the unauthorized Win7 install I looked at the device manager and remember Realtec HD audio and Intel HD video and have located those drivers elsewhere on the web, but can't be sure what else I'll need.  I do seem to recall that with the bad install the ethernet adapter was without a driver, for example.
Where can I find a list of drivers for which to scavange the web?  Looks to me as if a hard drive failure will leave any newer HP computer in worse shape since they replaced the recovery discs with a recovery partition on the hard drive it's meant to restore.  Something I should keep in mind in future computer shopping.
    This question was solved.

Windows 7 driver download page for your model:
    http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-2000-2b00-Notebook-PC-series/5296210/model/530508...
Remember, when you buy a new laptop they do not give you recovery disks. That has been true for many years. However, there is a Recovery manager that will let you make those disks and if you do that and store them in a safe place you are always able to recover your system. Windows itself also now has very good backup tools including the ability to make a complete system image of the computer in its current state (not factory condition) so there is no real reason you cannot be fully protected against a hard drive crash.

i am a FCP user on a G5. i need to begin to load and initially edit video while traveling and then take that FC project file and load it onto my home based G5 for further work. i am considering a macbook and FC express to accomplish this task.
    my questions are:
does it matter that the new macbooks are intel processors and my G5 is not intel based? will i have any compatibility problems with SW/file transfers.
is FC Express the best SW to use for the load and initial edits?
is there a best practice recommendation for what i want to do?
    thank you.

    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   use FCP HD 5.0.1

FCP will run on a MacBook. It's not support, and the Studio is not supported because of Motion's graphics requirements, but quite a few people are running FCP on basic MacBooks. Just make sure it has enough RAM.

    Amit

    Hi Amit,
Assuming you are going for P6 r8.3 EPPM and currently have absolutely nothing deployed the order I would recommend would be.
    1) Install Windows 2008 R2 SP1
    2) Install SQL Server 2008R2 SP1 (express edition is not officially supported for a server deployment)
    3) Install Sun JDK 1.7u15 (64bit) (set the JAVA _HOME Vartiable)
    4) Install Weblogic 12.1.1
    5) Apply patch 16176831 to weblogic
    6) Create the 8.3 EPPM database
    7) Install P6 8.3 EPPM
    8) Configure and start Weblogic

  • Optimal Hardware/Software configuration for FCP

I switched from PCs to Macs about 1/2 a year ago to due overwhelming frustration at numerous Windows crashes. I have used Adobe Premiere Pro, Audition and Encore on a PC desktop to do video projects. I now have a 17" 1.67 Powerbook with 2gb of ram and the FCP suite. On a Windows PC, I tweaked everything to get the most out of the computer, partitioned a drive for the video projects, did regular defragging etc etc.
Now that I am on a Mac, I am not sure what needs to be done and what doesn't. I have an external 320 gb Firewire 800 HD that has my iTunes library, some backup files and will be the drive I use to capture video to and edit from. The drive is not partitioned. I have read that partitioning is not really necessary in Mac OS as the file management is much better. I would like to partition it anyway to make a small boot drive in case the hard drive on the Powerbook fails. Is there any benefit to partitioning a drive for video/sound files for FCP projects?
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I haven't found much information on system optimization for FCP.
    Thanks,
    Philip
    17" 1.67 Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   2gb of ram

Creating a back up system drive is a really good idea and it makes sense to partition your external drive to organize things. The other option is to just purchase another drive for that purpose.
If you want to back up your system, Carbon Copy Cloner is a great app.
There is a very nice program called Volume Works which will do partitioning and resizing partitioning on the fly. Very useful if you like to use partions as a way to organize system drives and media on the same disk.
Since the Mac OS is essentially Unix at the core, it was designed from the ground up as a robust 24/7 OS. There are maintenence things that need to be regularly run ( called CRONs) and there are other disk file and directory maintenence activities listed below. Other than that, if you REALLY enjoy getting down with text based interfaces and mucking about you can find all sorts of folks who are tweeking the system - for example - moving the location of the system swap file on the system disk. Not for the faint hearted...
    General things to do ...
    Repair Disk Permissions
Repairing disk permissions is simply good system maintenance and should be done as part of ANY upgrade and/or application addition. In addition it should be run regularly just as a preventative tool. It makes sure that the permissions on application files are set to the read/write/execute permissions they should have. Sometimes these are changed through the addition of new/updated programs which can cause varied and difficult to track down problems.
    Verify Directory Structure
Disk Warrior is a file directory repair/optimization program. It analyzes and repairs your disk directory structure as well as optimizing it. It will pick up and repair problems that the OSX included Disk Repair Utility can not address. It is an essential tool.
    Run the Cron Utilities
If you leave your machine on 24/7 these ought to run on a regular basis. If you turn the machine off at night (or, are like me - during the day - vampires anyone?) you want to force these crititcal utilities to run. Download and run a program such as OnyX which gives you a number of options regarding CRON, flushing caches, prebinding (aka optimizing) dumping log and temp files and so on and so forth.
Down load and have ready to run the application FCP RESCUE. You can find it on Versiontracker. It is another one of the those really useful tools. It deletes all your preference files when they become corrupt. Once the system is working again and set the way you like it, it will back up the same files so the next time things go south, you simply overwrite the corrupt with the good -sounds like batman doesn't it...
Take care of your machine and it will take care of you!

The web cam and the remote control features do not function after installing the above software and using online updating for the installed software.
Can someone please direct me to a link that will provide the proper web and remote software?

Didn't find the soft pac for the remote control installation, just instructions for using the TV functions. On a separate forum I found a reference to " sp40139 " to resolve the remote control problem on a different operating system. I downloaded the file (29Mb) but was afraid to install it for my 32 bit Vista Home Premium OS. If I could find the link to the location where this soft pac was located, I could probably find the correct one.
