Hardware/Software Specs and LINUX

I am having a hard time finding out what the hardware specs have to be to run this suite. Anyone have a clue? Also, I have noticed that some of you are having issues with Red hat Linux, do we know if it will run on Red Hat or does it need Linux Advance? Thanks I need the help!

Hi,
To have an average performance, you'll need 2 Red Hat Advanced Servers, 2GB Memory on the 1st, 1GB Memory on the 2nd.
Update your kernel, kernel-2.4.9-e.25.i686.rpm is available at metalink.
Don't forget to disable OCS ports and tweak the environment/kernel settings.
Hope this helps

  • What are the hardware/software specs of Basic, Standard, and Premium databases?

I'm looking for the following info: CPU, RAM, Windows Server version, SQL Server version. Also, is the storage disk HDD or SSD?

    Hi,
Since Azure SQL is an PaaS service, hardware and server OS version is information that we don't relate to.
    For example, if you run
    Select @@version as Version
You get Microsoft SQL Azure (RTM) - 11.0.9226.14. Alt least in the server I have running to day.
If you want to know performance levels at the different tiers, take a look at this MSDN article.

  • Arch Linux Turkish Community @ 8th Free Software and Linux Festival

    Hey There Guys,
We'd love to tell you about the latest news. We were at our stand all
day long on the very first day of 8th Free Software and Linux Festival.
    What we've done?
    * We've burnt 20 i686 and 10 x86_64 CD images and created paper CD cases
and gave everyone for free. (unfortunetly we were only capable of doing
40 of them and 30 cases since especially the cases were so expensive as
they were the best quality available)
    * Made some installations for people who needs help
    * Printed nearly 30 Turkish installation manual and gave them with the
    CD's..
    * Created a "Arch Linux on Tap" concept and made it available over the
network!    They is very cool though since anyone can put the plug in
and install Arch with our very new and fresh Arch mirror (that have i686
and x86_64 packages for core, testing, community, extra).
We'll continue to do introduce Arch Linux to visitors of the festival
and help them to discover the beauty!
We also have some pictures for you!    Comments are welcome!

Yeah, that's mine! (which runs Leopard for now but has several virtual Arch's on it..) I'm working on installing Arch on it.. (is a 3-4 years Arch user by now btw..)

  • Help. My home button doesn't work. I've to press it several times to get it to function. The phone has 4 months. I've already update software, restarted and calibrated it. I was thinking to go to the service. Has 1 year hardware warranty. Suggestions?

There's another thread with similar problems.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2595841?start=510&tstart=0
I wouldn't suggest it though, since it may void your warrantee. Apple will replace it if you bring it in. The genius bar guys aren't too bright, well most of them. But they'll go through the usual diagnosis steps then issue you a replacement if they have them in stock.
I have to admit, Apple has one of the best replacement services that I've ever experience. If you're familiar with costco, the return/exchange process is very quick and painless.

  • S10 will not install on FreeBSD and Linux friendly hardware

I have been utterly unable to successfully install S10 on hardware that FreeBSD and many linux flavors work on. Can someone please point me to informational resources that might help me understand what I need to do to get it working?
I posted a query last week, but the support volunteers apparently don't think my problem is worthy of attention or something.
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for asking!
I can sucessfully configure and install disk1. After that, the system wants to boot from the hard drive to complete the installation.
When the HD boot is attempted, a long pause then:
Timeout on target 0 lun 0. Initiating recovery.
I have reviewed every piece of documentation that I could find regarding what could be causing this and what I could do for corrective action. My guess is that my SCSI hardware is not supported in some way, but there's woefully little information on Solaris 10 x86 hardware compatibility.
I went through all the "device adding" kludge at boot time, no affect. My system can only boot Solaris 10 from the CD media.
I sincerely appreciate your attention. I'm usually really good at self help in an open source environment. But I have no source code, so it's REALLY hard to troubleshoot this without source code.

Thanks for your answer . Before going on, it would be nice if others people could give me some advice about Linux Debian wheezy and the 64 bit version. Nevertheless, AtliJarl, I have always hesitated to install Fedora. You seem to know Ubuntu, Mint which are two children of Debian. Is it hard to change to Fedora, a Red Hat child ? Indeed, I am a software developer and many oracle softwares are only available in rpm packages. So, what are the others advantages of Fedora ? Thanks.
Edit: this morning, I have downloaded fedora 20 after doing some researches. It seems to be a good OS. I am going to try it with the live CD. Then, I will use clonezilla in order to save the Ubuntu partitions and I will install fedora. Thanks a lot for your link.

I recently took my 27 in I Mac to Peach Mac for service for a flashing green screen. It comes up when I log in.  They said it was not a hardware issue but a software issue and want to charge me 99.00 to re-install it. WiIll mac come out with a patch for OS x for this? Is this worth it?

Having a similar issue with my MacBook Pro w/Retina 2012.
I did the reinstall my self and incrementally did the updates by downloading them from Apple's website instead of using the App Store.
I found that the problem occured after updating to OS X 10.9.3.
The issue is in a 4k resolution update for mirroring displays.  Not that you should be doing that from an iMac but your packaged update may have been similar even though the update was meant for 2013 MacBook Pro's.
You can try reseting the Nvram chip during boot up by pressing "Option + P + R" keys.  You may have to do this after entering your password to log in if you have that set up on your computer.  However this only works on certain models of Mac hardware and may not do anything at all.
After you get your second opinion from Apple, if they again confirm it's a software issue, then you should reinstall OS X Mavericks and download updates from the website instead of the app store.  This way you control your updates.  You will find the OS X 10.9.2 update as well as a seperate security update prior to the released update of the dreaded OS X 10.9.3
Again if you don't want the issue to occur again, then hold off on updating to OS X 10.9.3, but be cautioned that you do so at the risk of leaving your computer less secured even though it will seem to run better.

  • Help!! I have an old macbook 3,1 and I need to upgrade it but have no idea if it meets the specs and where I begin!! CAn anyone help me?

How can I tell whether my macbook is able to be upgraded? It won't sync with my iphone because I"m running 10.5.8 but have no idea if it can be upgraded. please please help an ignorant apple user!!!

The earliest MacBook 13" coreduo first year models from 1.83GHz processor on up, can use Snow Leopard 10.6.8; the computer should see a RAM upgrade to at least 2GB RAM (replace both chips) with the correct supported RAM kind, grade, specs, for the machine.
The Snow Leopard retail DVD is (or was yesterday) available from the Apple Store online for about $20. If you look up your MacBook by Serial number from a site that can help do that, the information can then be used to find out more about the computer and what kind of update/upgrade may be possible. Hardware & software.
With the serial number, found in System Profiler (about this mac... more info from apple menubar) you can copy paste that into a web page such as this  http://www.powerbookmedic.com/identify-mac-serial.php  for more details. Then move on to everymac.com and look up your exact series of MacBook in their database online. Or get Mactracker application as a download from http://mactracker.ca so you can see a variety of information in your computer about most Apple computers.
For upgrading RAM yourself, see the MacBook area and your specific model at iFixit http://www.ifixit.com/Device/MacBook or check Apple Support for MacBook (your vintage) to see how they say to upgrade RAM.

  • GT70 2PC – Software testing and performance report.

It is so excited here again. Currently, my first/only object after work is playing Titanfall.
I intended to share another performance testing today. But I didn’t. I found there are too many great open box posts on different forums. Therefore, I decide to dig the MSI software compatibility and do a touring. What can I say? I’m Mr.Curiosity who really desires to know every built-in application in system. That is why I share this article with you, my friends. I would like to discuss with everybody who is interested in MSI software. Of course, I have some performance reports for you, too. Please also remind me if you find any typo/wrong in this post. Thanks in advance.
    1. MSI Boot Configure
This is the first software which pops up immediately. It is thoughtful design because we can choose enter the [Windows 8.1 metro] or [desktop] by ourselves now. I give it two thumbs up!!!
Select your favorite boot configuration and press [OK]. If we want it work immdiately, we can logout the system and re-login again.
    2.   MSI Remind Manager
Honestly, I didn’t know what it is in the beginning. The cute robot shows every time when I login the system. I found this is a reminder for product registration. Good, I would like to have best MSI support and warranty for my lovely GT70 2PC. But don’t worry, if you don’t want to get this message again, you just need to select the right option and close it.
    3.   Synaptics TouchPad
This is a driver for mouse. [Mouse property] will show if we do the double clicks on TouchPad icon in tray. You can choose enable/disable internal pointing device when external pointing device is attached. This is brilliant. A tough guy (like me…HA! HA!) didn’t like to play game with touchpad. Because the character in game will be weak and slow if I control it by touchpad. Of course, I need the external mouse all the time and don’t want the interference from touchpad.
    4.   System Control Manager (SCM)
We can enable/disable the WLAN/BT/camera devices by SCM. Besides, it can control the display brightness, volume, screen on/off and ECO. ECO is special mode for gaming watching movie.
    5.   Sound Blaster CINEMA
Sound Blaster CINEMA is come from an old school audio company – CREATIVE. The software can adjust the surround sound easily. We also can adjust 5.1/7.1 surround sound for the internal speakers and external headphone. That is great, isn’t it?
Besides, we can also adjust CRYSTALIZER/BASS/SMART VOLUME/digital output by ourselves.
    6.   Killer Network Manager
This is a major feature of MSI NB.
In Killer Network Manager, we can set the network priority for each of applications and we also can abandon the connection from malicious software.
[Performance] shows current status of network. We can find out which application occupied the most greedy resources by it.
[Network -> Test Network Speed] will detect the network environment automatically. Furthermore, it will adjust the priority for applications.
[Killer Ethernet] show the LAN connection info.
[Killer Wireless] show the router info.
    7.   SteelSeries Engine
This is another major feature of MSI NB
If we do the right click on icon in tray, the menu will show following list. We can select [Launch SteelSeries Firmware Update Tool], [Updates]…and so on.
If we select the [Settings]. It can help us change default language and set application auto running when system power on.
    I.   Buttons
Double click to open the SteelSeries Engine. I think it can set 4 different keyboard settings for each of profiles. And it can switch by FN+1~4.
[Keypress Marc] can record what you input. And [Record Delays ] can modify the delay time. HA! No game can block us anymore. Please remember to press the [SAVE] for your setting
[Launch Application] can launch any application immediately. I suggest to set the cold key for this function.
Here is example. I use [PgUp] to quick start the 3D Mark11. See, it will pop up when I pressed [PgUp].
It is simple to use [TextMarco] set our own phrase. Now I become a quick speaker in my team. One key, only one key can help me to type a lot of words.
Are you tired to press some keys that you never want to touch in game (Like WIN KEY)? It is not the problem now.  [Disable Key] will do the favor and disable any key which you hate.
II.   [Colors] can change the color of backlight keyboard. Also, you can set different modes (Gaming/Audio…etc) on it.
We can change the color zone. There is not only 4 or 5 colors. The engine provides thousands of colors for us. [Audio mode] is the coolest. It will change colors by itself when we play music by speakers. I like to dance with my keyboard.
III.   We can select different languages by [Settings].
IV.   [Properties] can save our hard works of settings reliably.
    V.   If you want to defeat your competitors, it is important to know your enemy. However, It is more important to know yourself. [Statistics] can help us observe which keys are most popular by our fingers.
Right click on [Profile]. It can modify/export/import/delete the profiles.
Mouse can use the same kind of settings as keyboard.
    DPI setting for mouse.
    Save files.
We can record the mouse, too.
    8.   Norton
Norton Internet Security: Anti-Virus software, MSI provides 60 days for free.
Norton Online Backup: Online data backup software, MSI provides 30 days for free.
Norton Anti-Theft: Anti-Theft software, MSI provides 30 days for free.
If you like Norton’s products, you can buy it online.
If you don’t, I believe we can uninstall it directly.
    So, the decision is ours.
    Introduction from Norton official website
    9.   Dragon Gaming Center
    I.   System Monitor:
It can monitor CPU/GPU loading and temperature. We also can find the network speed and fan speed in it.
    II.   Utility:
You can set your favorite apps in [Add new Utility].
E.g. I added a [MSI Afterburner]. Click [Open] to build the link. Do you feel familiar with something? Exactly, [Launch Application] of [SteelSeries Engine] can do this, too.
    III.   Instant Play:
We can define [Fn+F4] to enable the quick start. But there is more secret.
We can also use [Browse] to assign the game which we want.
Click the icon of game and [Fn+F4] will be ready. We can only use 1 program at once.
I usually change the brightness, volume and mouse sensitive before the game. As you know, every games are different. It is sweet because we can use  [Apply Setting] to do this.
I can’t believe it. We also can find the clock feature in it. How convenient it is!
IV.   Hybrid Power is another MSI feature.
It can provide the power by AC adapter and battery in the same time. We can monitor the status in here.
    10. BurnRecovery
It can create the recovery CD/DVD/USB for MSI NB.
    Here can select Recovery disc/USB/ISO.
I will make a ISO file first.
We can select where to put the ISO.
    Creating the recovery file...
    Finish!
Open the folder and we can find 4 ISO files in it.
Well…[BurnRecovery Help] provide the details spec.
In my opinion, everyone should create their own recovery image. You will need it in one day.
    11. Battery Calibration
This is software for battery calibration. In order to keep our battery good, we should do the calibration every three months. Don’t forget to plug-in the AC adapter and battery during the process..
Press [Start] to begin the process. It will make the battery fully charged first.
Then, it will empty the battery like this.
System will shut down after the empty process. At last, fully charged again. It will take 4~5 hrs to complete the process.
    12. MSI Dragoon Army /MSI Facebook /Web site /YouTube
Those are MSI forums/Facebook/official website/YouTube and links.
[MSI Dragoon Army] is the official forum for MSI. We can find NB, MB and AIO info in it.
Facebook Quick Link for many countries of world.
    MSI official website
    YouTube channel of MSI.
    13. Super-Charger
There is no message when I click this app at the first time. But when I attached my IPAD, it pops up the [Super-Charger]. It is amazing because IPAD can’t be charge by this USB port. As far as I know, the USB 3.0 only provides maximum 900mA for its device. IPAD will need 2.1A for charge process. I have no idea how MSI NB make IPAD charging okay.
    14. XSplit GameCaster
This is one of important features. I saw many different first class gaming machines this year. All of them have the broadcast software. (Like PS4, Xbos ONE)
It can switch the default language after we login.
Twitch/YouTube / Facebook/ Twitter/Google+ can be used by [Accounts]. It is easy to start the live show.
We can modify the resolution and use twitch by [Setting]
We can configure FPS/CPU loading/where to show on display by [Status label].
    Hotkey configuration.
    Videos storage.
Press [Ctrl+Tab] to call Gamecaster in game. And we can twitch or modify setting. I will provide my gaming video for you later.
    15. Power DVD
This is a famous video player. Also, it can support BD format.
We can use the [Setting] to change our language.
We can change 5 times for default country .
It is glad that I’ve finished the introduction of GT70 software.
    Performance report:
Um…Now is late at night. I should go to my lovely bed.  Following is the testing report for the reference.
    1.   FurMark
    1920*1080, 15 minutes.

OK, well I solved my own problem by replacing this file with one from a recent TimeMachine backup. Looks like the update must have damaged this file ... strange.

  • Intermittent missing keystrokes on macbook pro keyboard..hardware/software?

I have a mb pro 2ghz core duo and have recently been having keyboard problems. Intermittently, my keyboard will not recognize keypresses from the following keys:
    zero -
    p
    ; return
Sometimes when I reboot they work. I have to carry an external keyboard with me on the road otherwise I can't use the laptop. Do you think this is a software or hardware issue? When I use Cmd-S at startup, I boot to the root prompt and things seem to work at the command line interface. I type reboot to get into os X gui environment, then its hit or miss. I hate to send in my mac for a software issue and wish someone could shed some light on this for me.

Search "keyboard delay", "keyboard sleepy", or "missing keystrokes" . At this moment no fix. Just a half worarround.

  • DUAL BOOT windows 7 and linux HELP with Current info on BIOS, MBR vs GPT, etc

I have a feeling this should be easier than what I'm making it.  Please educate me on Lenovo's BIOS Setup menus, etc.
I have installed easyBCD in Windows 7, and plan to use it to set up my new boot menu with Linux Mint (and possibly other distros).
I am using a live DVD.  I inserted the DVD and went into SETUP and selected to boot off the DVD drive.  It started to boot into Linux and all was going well.
However, I realized that I had not checked on the Secure features (Secure Boot, EFI).  So I shutdown again and went into BIOS.  I went to the SECURITY menu and Disabled UEFI.  Then I disabled Secure boot.
Tried to boot off the DVD and couldn't get anywhere.  Kept putting me back into the window to select the boot device over and over again.  THought I'd ruined my machine
Anyway, finally stumbled upon STARTUP menu, and put it into EFI Legacy, and I was able to get back into Windows 7.
Obviously before I pursue this further, I need some educaiton on your MENUS, Lenovo and EFI/Secure Boot.
I have a feeling that I can probably now install the Linux but want to make sure my settings are correct before I pursue.
    Thanks, Kim
Moderator note:  this thread gets more Linux-flavored with each post   Moved from the "T" board to the Linux board.

Hi, thanks for ans.  Your specs are almost identical to my T530 ,which I should have listed.  The only diff is
I have an i7 35something processor.   Same intel card, RAM and HDD, not that that should matter I'm guessing.
I purposely avoided the Nvidia card because of all the heaadaches with Nvidia.
I have to teach a class tomorrow and I need to clean up my notes.  (Definitely not computer related...LOL.)  I don't want to  be stressed out about this during class, so I plan to wait to attempt a new install tomorrow afternoon.
What I have done is find out some more info about dual booting with windows 7.  I went in to windows 7 to shrink the C: partiition and it said I'd have to reserve at least 220 GB for MS!  Not what I wanted; I don't really care a thing for MS.  I was born and raised on Unix and Linux; I never really fiddled with MS after the demise of MS-DOS during my college days.
Given that, and the fact that I'd lose half my 500 GB HDD to the Borg, I may just chuck the entire dual boot thing and just load Linux on it.
If you say you're running Linux on it just fine, that would be a great encouragement.  No HW problems at all? Everything working fine?  Which distro are you using?
I plan to test Mint, Fedora, PCLinuxOS, Mageira (sp?), saybahon (sp again?), Debian Wheezy, and even Pear, LOL. I'll keep trying till I find a distro to run on my Lenovo T530, but I'm guessing all of 'em should do okay.
I have Lubuntu I could give a spin, as well and Crunchbang and Bodhi, but they're all 32 bit.  (I have an antique Dell desktop that I still use down in my woman cave.)

  • Online Radio Management Software for Arch Linux

After switching to Arch Linux, I found out that I have no interest to try any other distro. Unfortunately I really missed something that I have used in Ubuntu, and that was Sourcefabric : Airtime. It is a free opensource radio automation software, and that mean if you want to have an online radio, you can make it yourself using Airtime.
Can somebody port this software to Arch Linux, or anybody have a better choice/solution? Any suggestion will greatly be appreciated. Thank you very much for spending your time reading this.

Read about the AUR. Create a PKGFILE for it and then you can install it via makepkg. Then, if it works well, submit your PKGFILE to the AUR.
