Hardware/Software upgrade order

Hi all,
I am currently running OS 10.3.9/FCP 4.5on my G5 with the stock 9800 video card. I am planning to upgrade my video card to an X800, as well as upgrading to OS 10.4x and FCP Studio. I am looking for some guidance as to what order to do the upgrades.
Any opinions or tips would be welcomed.

Personally, I would archive everything of importance on the computer. Then gather up all my install discs and serial numbers.
Restart the computer from the tiger install disc, COMPLETELY erase your hard drive and install tiger. Then run the upgrades to tiger and quicktime. Repair permissions. Restart. Then install your apps, repair permissions, run updates for the apps, repair permissions, restart etc.
Any other way leaves you open to having odd little leftovers from the old os and apps that can wreak havoc.
EDIT: Install tiger, then the card, then the apps.

when you install the disc, do it with the machine powered off. Place the disc in the the slot, push it in while holding the power switch tp poer it up, while holding the "C" key down till the gear starts spinning. After the gear starts spinning you can release the C key and wait. This takes much longer than normal longer, then create a new account. Be ready to wait.
    USE YOUR ORIGINAL INSTALL DISC!

As far as articles goes, Leopard is pretty good right know for Mac OS users. I didn't have experince upgrading operating system on Macintosh platform before. I am just use my macintosh a lot for graphic applications, web applcations and internet. So I would like to convince myself, if buy a new operating system ( Leopard ), I am going to have a better performance on my Mac that I have right know, and all my softwares are going to perfrom as well. Actually Safari 1.0.3 was a pretty good internet browser for me until now, a lot of websites I can open or after get in, application is quite on me. • So what kind of hardware and software upgrades can i get to beef up my macbook?

i'm talking ugrade to eight gigs of RAM, dragon dictate, any video cards? i want this thing to last me for like 20 years. maybe boot camp it so i could run TOR on the windows side. and when you answer, please keep it simple cause i don't know TOO much about this stuff

The only upgradable hardware in a MBP is RAM and HDD/SSD.  But neither upgrade done by you will void the warranty unless you are extremely clumsy and break something in the process ... but that is not very common.
Some even replace the optical drive with a second hard drive, but Apple frowns upon that and void call that system "out of warranty".  But if your system is 5 years old and beyond any warranty, it s your call.
All else is soldered to the logic board.
2011/2012 MBPs can upgrde memory tpo 16 GB (although 16 GB memory is still $250).  8 GB is only $50, though.
BootCamp does not necessarily need more memory, since only one or the other is running at any time.  But if you want to use Windes in a VM (virtual machine, such as VirtualBox, Parallels or VMWare  Fusion) more memory is always better since both OSs will need memory.
Software upgrades are limited only by available packages, and come in a variety of types.  You would need to specify software you want to use.
    BUT
You said "last for 20 years".  Several people have kept running applications designed fro the PPC (PowerPC) chipset, and which had a support software called "Rosetta" that run up through Snow Leoapard.  Rosetta is now defunct in Lion and beyond.  In short, software compatibility will likely fall off so eventually you will need to buy new software.

  • Do I HAVE TO download the itunes software in order to purchase songs? HELP!

I have a 12 yr old who has been very patient. She just got the Creative Zen Sleek player, we have XP Pro, the Zen already has it's own "organizer player".
Do I really have to have the itunes software in order for my daughter to purchase and transfer the songs to her player?
I have been at this all day, upgrading software, upgrading hardware, I thought I would have been done by now..so she can actually use it and not just for FM stations!
anybody!! Please help a frazzled mom and very patient daughter!!!

Since you have gift certificates for iTunes, you will download from iTunes. iTunes is a free program. Download it here:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Now, correct me if I am wrong, but you can only use iPods on iTunes. So when you let your daughter go into iTunes, click on iTunes Music store on the left side, then click "redeem Gift Certificates,"
type in the code on the certificate, and choose your songs.
(Note: Under iTunes Help it says that Music downloaded from the site can only be used on iTunes and iPods - I do not think this is true)
The songs, once they have downloaded, will be in the music library.
Now you must download a different music program. For ease, I would say download Realplayer - www.realplayer.com
it is not as nice as iTunes, but iTunes will not work.
In realplayer look for "Import to Library"
Then look for the file under which the music files you downloaded are saved.
    It should be:
    C drive > My Music > iTunes > Library
and it should all be there.
If you are not sure where the files were saved to, then in iTunes go to
Prefrences > Advanced > General > iTunes Music Folder Location
That is were the files were saved.
Now back in realplayer, select the folder that the files are in, and clikc import.
The song files should now be in the realplayer library too.
Connect your Creative Zen, and realplayer should reconize it, and off you go.
(This is not as confusing as it looks)
Good Luck and If you are confused, just ask.

  • Ipod touch 2.1 software upgrade problem

Hi so i have a first generation ipod touch and i have bought the 2.1 software upgrade but now it is saying that in order to upgrade i have to wipe all content currently on my ipod.
This is a problem because I do not have all the files that are on my ipod on my computer, so if i upgrade then i will lose most of my music and videos, but i do not want to waste my money because i paid $13 for the upgrade.
Is it possible to upgrade my ipod without erasing my content?
any help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks in advance

not from about from 1.x to 2.x but mine came with 2.0.0 and i used all upgrades untill this 2.1 and i only sync'd my ipod touch 1 time
the rest of the times it does a restore and upgrade and restore the restore
if it's different from 1.x to 2.x then there

  • January Software Upgrade - Availability outside the iTunes Store countries

I have (an iPod Touch) model number that should receive a free January Software Upgrade as stated in the Apple Price Protection Policy.
Mention that it was bought in the European Union, France, while I was on vacation. However I don't see an option to upgrade in iTunes without being asked for an iTunes Store country credit card. I currently reside in Romania(which is also part of the E.U.).
I searched the support pages and I didn't a Apple customer support email address to send my complaint to.
How can I receive the upgrade? Is this upgrade limited to ITNS countries?

I had thought not, but I tried last week after a discussion with someone from Apple (Asia Pacific). I had earlier bought the QuickTime Pro licence but that was with help, so I registered at the Hong Kong online store and bought the licence for Aperture 2. As for hardware, as far as I am aware, No.
For me as well, the country I am in does not have an Apple online store (or an Apple store come to that) and the distribution system is somewhat different. Those who wish to be "in the loop" use a franchise system -- iStudio and iBeat.
I would hope that the Apps Store would take a different route. Some friends here do have credit cards issued in other (acceptable) countries and they are able to buy from iTunes stores. I have been here so long that all my credit cards are Thai issued -- fine when I go to San Francisco or London; fine with the online Apple shop; fine with music purchases from a number of sources in the US; but not for iTMS. I can sort of accept restrictions on the music and videos (try the BBC for tight-a** behaviour), but the iPod touch software burns.

Thrown in two of them and 4GB RAM and your system will fly. But one will do the trick pretty well. <br /><br />Yes, I bet it would fly with 2 Quad Cores.  My TD says he has a good deal on a quad processor for something like $350, but I have no idea if this is a good deal.  I also have no idea whether a quad will work in my motherboard, the  D955XBK.  I spent some time at Intel's site last night and it seems this bd will not handle a Quad, so this would probably mean I will have to dump my motherbd in order to get into a Quad.<br /><br />Intel has all these looney names for their processors -- CORE 2 DUO, CORE 2 QUAD, CORE 2 EXTREME, XEON -- one hardly knows what's what.       <br /><br />James<br /><br />All of the surrent chips are good enough to handle Adobe products.

I have a MacBook circa 2007 with System Version:
Mac OS X 10.4.11 (8S2167) what software upgrade is capable?  Thanks

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu and check the processor.
If it's a Core Duo Mac, click here, install the DVD, and run Software Update.
If it's a Core 2 Duo or better Mac, follow the Core Duo instructions, open the Mac App Store, and try purchasing Mountain Lion. If you get told it's incompatible, phone the online Apple Store and order a download code for Lion.

If it's a Core 2 Duo or better Mac, upgrade it as if it was a Core Duo Mac, and once done, if desired, open the Mac App Store and try downloading Yosemite. If you get told it's incompatible, go to the online Apple Store and order a download code for Lion 10.7.

  • Decrease battery life since Maxx software upgrade

My Droid Maxx HD had excellent battery life prior to my recent software upgrade that occurred earlier this week. Now come 5pm my battery that use to last till 9pm is dead! What can I do to extend the life of the battery so it does what I bought it for?

Sorry for the battery issues, but let's narrow down what could be doing it.  I'm gonna provide some information that will help you this.  Some of the information will have a question before it, and the information will clarify why the question is important.
How are your charging your device on a normal basis?  If you are charging it in the car more often than the wall, that will not give you a quality charge and you will see the charge drain faster than charging it from an outlet.
How do you close your apps?  Most game apps are intensive on your battery if they remain open, even if you are not actively using the app.  Simply pressing the home button doesn't allow your device to "sleep" so you're going to have a degredation in battery life.
Have you updated the apps since your device software updated?  If the app version you currently have isn't what is most current, it would cause issues  with overall performance.
What charger are you using?  If it's not the charger that came with the device, or an approved charger you would have issues getting a quality charge.
Do you recall any app you downloaded right before you began having issues?  Some apps are "high risk" and interfere with your device and it's functioning.  If you have installed an app right before this started you can try uninstalling them in reverse order from their installation.
Well, I'm done taking up your time and I hope this information helps.  If you find out it is an app you recently downloaded, but you want the app I would suggest either posting some feedback to the app developers.  An alternative solution would be to purchase a charging case/portable charger.  Good luck with your battery issues.

  • Torch lockup on downloading software upgrade

I tried downloading a software upgrade a few hours ago using my laptop and Blackberry Desktop Manager. The download froze part way through and now I'm unable to connect the phone to the laptop & all the phone will do is display the Blackberry platform 5.1.532 menu and an error message: uncaught exception net. rim device.api. i18n. missing resource exception.
Not sure where to go from here. Any ideas? Since I can't get past the menu list on the phone screen I can't do anything via the phone & since the laptop won't conect with / recognise the phone I can't try reinstalling via Descktop Manager.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
I'm not quite clear what happened...the download is one step, followed by installation to the PC, followed finally by installation to the BB. You only said "download", but the subsequent things you said don't correlate with the actual download being where it got stuck. So I'm a little bit lost. So I think perhaps you should start over.
The simplest way is to, on a PC (you cannot do this on MAC):
    1) Make sure you have a current and complete backup of your BB...you can find complete instructions via the link in my auto-sig below.
    2) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages
    3) Make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed
    http://us.blackberry.com/software/desktop.html
    4) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
It is sorted first by carrier -- so if all you want are the OS levels your carrier supports, your search will be quick. However, some carriers are much slower than others to release updates. To truly seek out the most up-to-date OS package for your BB, you must dig through and find all carriers that support your specific model BB, and then compare the OS levels that they support.
    5) Delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
6a) For changing your installed BB OS level (upgrade or downgrade), you can launch the Desktop Software and connect your BB...the software should offer you the OS package you installed to your PC.
6b) Or, for reloading your currently installed BB OS level as well as for changing it, bypass the Desktop Software and use LOADER.EXE directly, by proceeding to step 2 in this process:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC.
If, during the processes of 6a or 6b, your BB presents a "507" error, simply unplug the USB cord from the BB and re-insert it...don't do anything else...this should allow the install to continue.
You may also want to investigate the use of BBSAK (bbsak.org) to perform the wipe it is capable of.
You may also want to try the "Bare Bones OS Reload Procedure" to attempt to narrow down the precise causal item:
Load your OS "bare bones"...if anything is optional, do not install it.
If the behavior presents immediately, then try a different OS with step 1
If the behavior does not immediately present, then run for as long as it takes for you to be sure that the behavior will not present.
Add one thing -- no matter how tempting, just one.
If the behavior does not present immediately, then again run for long enough to be sure it will not have the same problem
Repeat steps 4 and 5 until all things are loaded or the behavior presents
When the behavior presents, you know the culprit...the last thing you loaded.
If the behavior does not re-present, then you know that either step 1 or 2 cured it.
If the behavior presents no matter what, then you likely have a hardware level issue for which no amount of OS or software can cure.

  • Software Upgrade Problems!

I had to reset my whole iPod and I plugged it into my computer, but it's not syncing the software upgrade to it.
I'm not buying it over again, and it still shows that I bought it in my Purchase History.

    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/browser/
Look at your purchase history for the order number.
    This is what I did:
On the 'Choose A Category' Section:
    Purchase(s) - Missing
Then: I'm unable to locate my purchased items.
Enter your Order Number and in the Text Box say that it got erased when you restored your iPod touch.
They replied to mine within 24 hours and I got it back.
