Hardware test w/o errors

has anybody run the hardware test and come up without any errors? mine had 2. now apple is sending it back due to a MLB Failure.

I just ran it on mine w/no errors. I tried the normal one and the extended and nothing came up. Now for me apparently I do have the whine but it's only noticeable if it's very quiet and I put my ear against it. Opening and closing the mirror widget seems to take care of it. As for the heat issue, it's a tad bit warmer then my 800 mhz ibook. There's only two real problem I'm having with my wonderful MacBook Pro. One just some minor fit issues on the front left, upper left side near the inputs and that the left of the lid is not 100% flush. Two the backlight keys only light in the dark if the computer wakes from sleep. So overall nothing major that would hinder my enjoyment of this wonderful machine.

  • Freezing G5Quad, Ran Hardware test, result DIMM Error

    Hi,
I have worked with macs for many years and I had never experienced such a problem. I have 2 Quads, one with 6 Gigs RAM and the other 3 Gigs. The one with 3 started freezing up randomly, sometimes during startup, sometimes after start up, or just after opening a program. The mouse would just freez. I could not do anything. Then I ran Hardware test and it came up with a DIMM error. it said DIMM J9600 had a problem, so I changed the possitions of my RAM and now it is working fine.
What I would like to know is how does a DIMM go bad. I had not opened my G5 for at least 4 months and it just happened from one day to the next. It also currupted my system disc, which I was only able to fix taking it out from the computer and putting it into my other quad and running Disc Warrior, which took more than two hours to fix.
Any ideas what must have happened???
Thanks, and sorry for such a long explanation.

Well - if you are now not getting the RAM error after switching slots, it seems possible that there was nothing wrong with the RAM and it was re-seating the RAM that fixed it.
Although the RAM is a tight fit in the slot, there are many small contacts and any contamination can cause problems - which re-seating can fix.
As you don't report getting the conventional RAM problem warning - bottom of the page here
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302527
it could even be an intermittent fault, so it might be worth running the extended RAM tests - Memtest/Rember - linked-to here

  • Got a Screen named hardware teste and a error msg

I was playing World of Warcraft,
i went to sleep, turned the MBP off,
when i woke up, i turned it on, a diffrent screen apeare named "Hardware Test"
and give me an error MSG:
    4SNS/1/40000000:TGOD-86.500
    what that means?
    what should i do ?

Call applecare or take it into an apple store. I got the same error message once, but without the 86.500 part, and ended up having to get my logic board replaced. Only those at apple know exactly what the error codes stand for though, so best to get in contact with them, and I would back up any important data just in case.

  • Hardware Test: Video Ram "error code 2NVD/1/4:119" G5 2.7 NVIDIA 6800 Ultra

Wondering if anyone has experienced this . . .
My G5 started displaying rows of chevron shaped artifacts a few weeks after upgrading to Leopard, Bought a used replacent card and it seemed to fix the problem for a couple of weeks then too started displaying the artifacts, ran the Hardware Test on both cards and both had Video Ram error code 2NVD/1/4:2119
I'am reluctant to buy yet another card untill I'am sure its not a Leopard Issue. any ideas?

I need to do more troubleshooting of my problem before I trying to reflash I think . . .
    the other day I had a friend install both my original card and the newly purchased "used" card in his G5 and he also got the error codes on both of them. Brought them home installed the replacement card reset the SMU and PRAM as I've done many times before and got the G5 up and running (after several reboots) no artifacts seemed to run perfectly for a couple of hours anyway when I tried restarting and then the problems returned, gets to the grey screen with the rows of artifacts then stops, screen goes black then the fans start slowly spooling up to max RPM (most likley from a kernel panic) logs show;
    "Apparent UniNorth Hang: AGP Status"

  • Apple Hardware Test detected an error code... now what?

I ran AHT and I got this message:
Alert! Apple Hardware Test has detected an error
    4M0T/1/40000003:HDD-1424
Can anyone shed some light on this?
My early 2008 iMac has been having issues with the spinning wheel when opening and using applications. I can't seem to pinpoint when it happens, but many times I will have to shut down or power the machine off to stop the wheel of death from spinning.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    bump... any one else?
I was able to boot the machine up today and I am noticing the top of the machine is getting very hot. Could this be the overheating issue I have read about here in discussions?
I was also able to transfer files to an old eMac, so I am backed up, but that transfer slowed after the machine warmed up. I would shut the iMac down and let it cool... it then transfered great while cool but slowed when it heated up....
I am taking it in to a local authorized repair shop Monday morning..... just hoping for some more thoughts before then.
    Thanks!

  • Apple hardware test detected an error.

Well, I'm back (see older post) . Just ran  Apple hardware test and it says it detected an error. What should I do from here??
I using the original Tiger discs which came with the computer. The Leopard disk was just a drop-in CPU disc they gave me to upgrade from (when I purchased the iMac in 07). Can I just use the Tiger disc again to run Disk Utility and try to fix the HD?
    Nancy

Attempted to repair disk via the Disk Utility on the Tiger disc.
    Now receive new messages:

I think I'm toast. Can anyone tell me what to do at this point?

  • Macbook slow even though, the hardware test returns no errors.

It started a few days ago, when my MacBook Pro mid 2012 (9,2), started making random freezes. It wasn't happening a lot, so I didn't really take any notice of it - until two days ago. No matter which action I tried to take, the MacBook would freeze for at least 30s - 60s. I have been experiencing similar problems before, and back then, my hard drive failed. So naturally, I started looking at hardware failures. I checked the S.M.A.R.T of my harddrive, which showed "no errors found". I then booted OS X (Mavericks) (while pressing down D) and opened the hardware diagnostics tool, to test all hardware components of my Mac, "no errors found". I then decided that a complete reinstall of OS X (Mavericks) might help me solve the problem, so I did that. Once the re-install part was done, the Mac worked flawlessly - maybe even faster than ever. Until today (I did the reinstall yesterday), when I woke up today and opened my Mac, the same symptoms. I know come here, to ask you for any ideas of what's going on. Because, I'm clueless now.

Again, "What were the results of Disk Utility>First Aid?"
Download and post the EtreCheck report.  Perhaps that will develop a clue.

    Perform SMC and PRAM resets:

  • Freezing Macbook Pro. Graphical glitches and occasional 3 tones on start up. Hardware test shows no errors. Is it RAM or a graphics card on the way out, or software?

Recently my MacBook Pro has been freezing and showing bad graphical glitches. Multiple restarts eventually fix it and a couple of times the three tones break, three tones break warning has occurred on start up. From what I can find this is usually a RAM error but after doing a hardware check I get the response all is OK. This still happens after the check and I am unsure what the problem could be. Can anyone help? Could it be a memory issue, a hard drive issue, Graphics card issue (drivers are up to date) or is something up with the software. I also have a Bootcamp partition running Windows 7 too and this is a problem that presents itself there too.

    Most likely to be RAM:
    Beeps on startup:
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images.
5 beeps = processor is not usable

I would suggest you take it to an Apple Store for a free diagnostic.

  • Where do I find a list of error meanings for Apple Hardware Test?

I think My 27" mid 2011 iMac has a faulty thermostat on the ODD. I ran the Apple Hardware Test and the error message was 4M0T/4/40000002:ODD-0. Where can I learn what this error code actually means?

That error message means that there is a problem with the optical drive fan motor. I recommend you to make a backup of your files and take the Mac to an Apple Store or reseller in order to prevent any problem.

  • My Powerbook boots up every few times and the hardware test still gives me -9972 error

    My Powerbook G4 15" aluminum 1.67Ghz 10.3.9 Panther won't start up.
(I did a backup on an external drive not long before it failed)
have gotten lost in my research on apple forums and knowledge base.
    From the original install discs:
The Hardware test gives the error.
    "2STF/8/3 ATA-100 ata-6-Master (-9972)"
The Disc utility does see my harddrive but fails to repair with the messge:
    1 volume cannot be repaired,
    'Invalid  node Structure'
    Disk 'no valid packets (-9997)'
I do have a useless partition from TechTool 4 and had successfully run the programs just before Powerbook failed.
aid everything was ok, with no warnings.
found somewhere a link to a hardware test code list, that said 9972 could be the cable (ribbon?) to the drive needed to be reset, replaced, or the harddrive replaced.
our local New Orleans 'official' Apple Tech guy calimed it was the harddrive and not worth replacing.  he whined that it would take hours, tho the guys on ifixit claimed only half an hour.
i have since got a refurb MacBook (even older it turns out) with Tiger, but I miss my 15 incher Powerbook. (on very tight budget)
the battery got zapped by lightning last year and have struggled with it ever since. it won't fully recharge.
Right now have got it on the AC without the battery to try to charge the backup battery.
I have managed to restore it several times after crashing, inspite of my tech guy claiming otherwise. but have never really opened it up besides just looking at the memory slots. just one filled with 512 card.
    so any advice, or suggestions.
I've been messing with my Power book for like 10 hours and finally finished replacing the hard drive. (just installing the software and all the updates took almost 2 hours by itself) Now it boots up every few times and the hardware test still gives me -9972 error.
    <Re-Titled By Host>

    My friend. Do not despair.
Firstly, you have a backup. Kudos.
Secondly, i suspect the hard drive in the machine is more than just a few years old. Hard drives die. I suspect the hard drive is the issue, not the cable.
Thirdly, it is worth changing the hard drive and take the ifixit advice. Simple to change. If it will be your first time changing the hard drive, just be organized and follow the steps carefully.
Now, before we decided it is the hard drive we need to confirm this.
I would check if SMART reports favorable conditions for the drive. Disk utility can tell you.
If good then I would zero out the drive. This allows the drive to excercise every sector and will build confidence of a well prepared drive going forward.
You can then restore from backup.
The other option is to replace the internal HD with a new one, perhaps with more storage.
As an FYI, I replaced the drive on my powerbook G3 and it's faster, quite , has more storage and gives me some peace of mind. Worth the money. The little guy runs beautifully.
