Hardware Update Weirdness

Hi All,
Just had my MBP into the shop for maintenance to my trackpad.
Now when I try to run Google Earth I get this message.
"You can't open the application "Google Earth" because it is not supported on this architecture."
I'm pretty sure one thing that Google Earth looks at when it starts is your video architecture.
Is there any chance they would upgrade my hardware while on a routine visit to the shop?
I could be wrong but it also seems to run hotter.
Just curious.
Regards...

  • System Hardware Update - 1/27/2015

On my Surface Pro 3, I have a "System Hardware Update - 1/27/2015" that continues to be listed as available and continuously fails. Any idea what this is, and why it's failing? I've provided the precise listing, and it doesn't have a KB number.

The vendor in this case is Microsoft. If you'd read the entire thread you'd
notice that we're discussing a firmware update for the Surface Pro 3.

Once again your arrogance stepped in your way. As I said go to the vendors website I'll post if for you.
Your chipset is intel and graphics you may also go to intel and see if there are drivers for your graphics. Which is included in the vendor list.

  • Windows shows "Hardware Update Wizard" instead of recognizing iPod

I've used my 20GB 4g iPod with Windows XP before and had no problems, but when I recently plugged it into my computer it wouldn't show up -- all I got was the "Welcome to the Hardware Update Wizard" window. It says that I need certain drivers in order to install the iPod; does anyone know what the computer means?

I suspect you have a Mac with OSX 10.4.11. To beyond 4.1 you need iTunes 10.x and that requires OSX 10.5.8 or later.

  • Surface Pro 3 "System Hardware Update - 27/03/2015" never finishes installing; blocking 10041 - 10049

The "System Hardware Update - 27/03/2015" is stuck in an "Installing updates..." state
It stays in this state, even as I have rebooted many times. There's no install activity happening in the background. There's nothing I can see in the event log.
I rebuilt the entire machine back to 8.1 from a clean recovery USB stick, then updated up to Win 10.10041 again, and got the same issue.
It's blocking me from getting any other updates, like getting up to 10049

    Hi Tatham,
    Thank you for your feedback.
Regarding Surface Pro hardware update, it is recommended to seek help at the surface support forum:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/forum
Besides, I would recommend to install Windows 8.1 and then update the hardware from there, after that, enable Hyper-V and build a new Virtual Machine for Windows 10, or you may try to native VHD boot of Windows 10.

  • What were your hardware updates on older macs?

hey guys i´ve just one question... cause i´m a hardware freak of our favourite friend i´m interested in hardware updates and other things you made with your "machines"...like changing parts from one mac 7xxx to an 8xxx for example...
sorry my english is very poor but i hope you´ll understand what i want to know....
    cheers...:-)

I have a 6100/60 that came with RAM "maxed out" at 72MB, then found the 6100 is the only Mac of that vintage that can handle more than its rated RAM. It now has 136MB (2 x 64MB stick +8MB on the logic board). While I was at it I replaced the nearly useless 250MB drive with a 4.3MB I scored.
I replaced the 2X CD-ROM in my 8100 with the 4X from a parted out Performa 6200. The 4X is not only faster, it's much quieter. When I have time, it will get one or two 4.3GB drives that Jim (Appaloosa Mac Man) found for me.
My Beige G3 started life with a 300mHz processor, 8GB hard drive, 64MB RAM and OS8.6. Today it still rocks on with the upgrades listing in my equipment list below.

  • Is a Hardware update for CS6 useful?

    Hi,
I still have CS4 and think about to purchase for CS6 shortly.
But I´m not sure if some hardware change could also be usefull?
    I have:
    Intel Core i7-920
    MSI Eclipse SLI Mainboard
    12 GB Ram
Nvidia GTX 460 Grafic card 1GB
    1 SSD (256GB) System
    2 1TB HDD (mirror)
    2 1TB HDD (striping)
Do you think I need some upgrade or better asked is any update usefull?

If you want top know what different hardware can do, after downloading and installing CS6, go to http://www.ppbm5.com, follow the instructions and post your results. Then, narrow down the search of the results to just CS6 users.
You will then know how your results compare to other people's results, and you will see which hardware performs the best. If you find that you can do something in 700 seconds that other people can do in 154 seconds, then you can make your decision.  If you decide you can only afford to go from 700 to 500, then you have to decide if it is worth the cost. If you can afford to go from 700 seconds to 154 seconds, then by all means, upgrade.
If you do want to upgrade, I can highly recommend reading through the hardware forum here, and look for posts by ECBowen. Eric was extremely helpful guiding my decisions. In fact, I ended up buying my system from him (ADK). Trust is earned, and Eric has done the work to earn his. I am quite happy with my PC's performance.

  • Macbook Hardware Update

    Hello,
I was wondering when Apple will upgrade the Macbooks again, because I'm about to buy one, but I don't know if it's the right moment to buy one now.
So, does somebody knows whether Apple will upgrade (hardware specs) the Macbooks in the upcoming six months?
    Thanks!
p.s. Sorry if this question is in the wrong category

It's not in the wrong category, but no one here can tell you when Apple plans to upgrade their specifications. Apple does regularly upgrade their processors (as they have done recently with a number of models) when faster processors become available. Most of these changes would be negligible in terms of performance with respect to what they are replacing. Apple does not pre-announce upgrades and speculation about such is against this sites Terms of Use. MacRumors does make an educated guess on when products will be updated... but it's nothing more than a guess based somewhat on past history:

  • ITunes music collection after 6th hardware update gone?

    Dear Community,
I hope someone can help me with this question:
Every year or two I upgrade my hardware, 4th time now – each time iTunes is counting down -
How can I prevent losing my music collection when I upgrade the 6th time?
Do I get an option "Buy all again" and it costs me a fortune? Is the iCloud the solution.
Here's thanking you in advance for helpful advice. Cheers

If you've got 5 computers authorised for the account in question, and you need to free up authorizations, I'd do a "Deauthorize All" from one of the computers you have access to, and then reauthorize the computers you have access to.
For instructions, see the following document:

  • 10.3 update weirdness

Just installed the recent update. After the download was complete, I rebooted. Nothing (gray screen). Rebooted again. Same thing. Rebooted a third time and it booted no problem.
I immediately backed up my files. After this was completed I was doing something else (can't remember, something as mundane as surfing) and my computer froze. I rebooted and got the os 9 flashing folder and question mark icon.
I've tried to reinstall 10.3.7 from the install DVD multiple times but after the installer starts it freezes, not allowing me to press "continue."
I've tried disk utility, but it is unable to find any disk - rather, it says "gathering disk information..." but after a long time still has the spinning wheel.
I'm starting to get a little freaked out, although I'm glad I performed a back up.
    Thoughts??????

    Hi nhansen
Is your backup bootable, and is it on an external drive that is connected by Firewire?
If so, you could boot from the backup using Target Disk Mode,
How to use FireWire target disk mode
then use Disk Utilities, Repair Disk on the original volume.
    Then restart normally.

I use above notebook mobile professionals use for CAD programming and also for Office applications.
2GB of RAM (standard), I can increase to 4GB Kingston (a tie) on purchase.
With the 160GB HDD I had an awful lot at the beginning of loss of speed.
So I had let a month later to a 120GB OCZ Vertex switch from second
And ran for almost 9 months without problems.
Now I have not so much free place in my SDD. So I would like to
"Intel SSD 520 Series 240GB 2.5 SATA III"
    Jump leave.
My question would be, I would get this problem?
    1) In theory, SATA3 work perfectly well that 240GB SSD right?
In manual, it is up to 120GB SATA2 SSD in it. However, the handbook of 2009. So the information is very old. And at that time were not yet 240GB free for end users SATA3 SSD hard drives.
    2) Are there any Windows Professional / Ultimate / Business 64 for 7 as this laptop?
Original I have Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit. I wanted my memory that is extended to 8GB. CAD program running on 64 bit operating system much better.
    3) Is the graphics card soldered onto my laptop or can I let it replace it? So it's a plug-in card?
    4) Can I move to a higher processor / CPU? To what size?
    5) the Mobile UMTS and HSDPA / HSPAU / LTE is capable?
    6) I still can not get on the Toshiba support site:
    http://de.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/generic/SUPPORT_PORTAL/
find when entering the serial number or the model number is not my laptop?
About an answer I would be very happy.
