Harman Kardon drive and play

I have a harman kardon drive and play fitted to my car that works fine with all my older apple stuff. I am now in possession of later generation apple iPhone and iPod touch with a different plug. I have purchased an adaptor to interface the old type plug with a new plug, but it does not work with the harman kardon The adaptor works when i use through the computer via an old apple cable and an iPhone 5 with the later type plug.
Any ideas how i could interface my new iPod touch through the HK Drive and play?

Does anyone know if the Harman Kardon Drive and Play unit will work with the Iphone 3G.
It does. Click here for more information.

I installed the system into my 2006 Lexus IS250. There's a grounding issue with my car when an iPod is plugged into both the auxiliary port and the power (not involving the drive+play, but wanted to let people know). I solved the issue by buying "The Silencer" by Monster, which does a good job of cutting out the feedback. The system itself is pretty good. Yeah, there are some issues with finding songs; the spring-loaded twist knob pales in comparison to the iPod scroll wheel. But with my car, I can hide everything in my center console while seeing what songs I'm playing, which beats opening the console every time I want to change a song or pick a different playlist. I previously had an iJet RF remote control, but it just wasn't as good.
The display is small enough that it can be optimally placed. You'll have to try it out for both that and the control knob.
Note that if you do install this, software issues will require you to downgrade your iPod software to the 2004-11-15 update until Apple can fix the problem. Search the forums for my other post.
You have to try out this system for yourself; you can get it at Circuit City and they have a 30-day return policy. Just install it by hand in your car (don't mount anything) and see if it works first. Then, if it does, get it professionally installed; otherwise, return it.

  • Drive and play by HK?

    Hi,
Harmon KArdon released recently the drive and play:
    http://www.harmankardon.com/drive-1/default.aspx
Anyone using it? How does it work? Is it FM transmitter only? They talk about wireing it, but I can't understand how.
I've been searching info on their web site with no luck.
    Thanks

Drive and Play work in one of 3 ways:
    1) Wireless FM Transmitter.
    2) Wired FM Module (Optional on US Models Standard on Euro).
    3) AUX Line In.
    1) and 2) work together... ie If you have 2) and pull the antenna cable out of the Drive+Play Main Unit then it work as 1) Wireless FM Transitter. You set the Frequency for FM via the 5 preset freq, or use a custom frequency of your choice from the Dri+Play FM Settings Menu.
    3) is a Hard Wired direct connection from Drive+Play to your Car's Stereo AUX-Line-IN. You turn it on via the Drive+Play Settings Menu.

  • My iTunes library has too much on it.  is there a way to export it to an external hard drive and play movies from there?

I have nearly filled up my hard drive with movies on itunes.  i know i can export everything to an external hard drive, but is there a way to export only the movies, delete those from my hard drive, and then play the movies with the external hard drive connected?

If they don't contain DRM, use a program such as Switch. If they do, you can't.

  • Harman-kardon speakers and various loud noises( mac mini)

My Harman-Kardon ball speakers, which have served me well from my old Cube days, are going loopy.
They have been happily USB connected to my 17" studio display (and powered from it) Recently, I've been hearing clicking noises, which can turn to a very loud 'rushing' sound if the computer has been active for more than an hour. I know some have had software issues with their sound systems due to 10.4 updates, but none reported very loud sounds. I came home yesterday to what sounded like an apartment fire alarm, it was that loud, but it was only my 'sleeping' computer. The noise ended when I pulled out the USB.
Could it be software? I don't want to buy new speakers if it might be. Or, time for knew speakers?-- if so, any advice? Happy New Year. Kevin

While it may not be all that helpful, I had some issues with an Altec lansing speaker set on my G5, where background noise was abnormally high almost all the time, and from time to time there would be rushing noises which grew very loud. It turned out to be a faulty USB hub, even though the speakers were not USB connected.
To troubleshoot your system, I would disconnect everything external bar the basic essentials, including any hubs or other devices, even the keyboard and mouse, and test the system that way. It would not be expected for software or MacOS itself to cause the sort of effects you describe.

  • How do I combine iTunes movies and music on external drive and play both from same library?

Trying to make an old MacBook with current iTunes a server for Apple TV. Have burned DVDs to external drive and have added my music to drive. iTunes made a library on the external drive. When I open iTunes to choose a library, I can either get all of the movies or get all of the music, but I cannot choose something that is both. I have even dragged the movies into the same file as the music, hopping that would help, but alas, I can still just have one or the other.
Any help would be so appreciated.
    Thank you.

Choose one library and drag the files from the other to the library in the open iTunes application window.

We kind of agree...we would have like to have seen a high res color screen instead of the old iPod style display.
The one nice feature of this bigger screen is the multi-line text. Most head units only display one line.
This was a $200 upgrade...a new head unit with iPod connections would have been a bit more. For folks with older headunit that they like, this is one way to go
If we were starting out fresh...we may not have installed it. we may still pull it after we finish with the carputer project....we would have the full iTunes library on the Mac mini running iTunes on a 7" color screen. so the H+P would be redundant.

  • How to import m4a files in a USB drive and play them using iTune?

I have set the target directory of iTune to that USB drive, iTune just does not play them.  The length of the playing is awful long.  But in reality , they are merely 1min long reading when I listen to them using Window Media Player.

CS4 is much older than Windows 8. CS4 is meant to work on XP or Vista. Getting it to run on Windows 7 was a bit of an issue, so I'm pleasantly surprised to hear that you have CS4 running on Windows 8 at all.
It's also possible that a new camera records in a codec that such an old version of AE doesn't understand.
Make sure you're running the latest update to your version of AE. You're on version 9, so make sure you've run the Adobe After Effects CS4 9.0.3 Update (I would not suggest updating in the middle of a project though, as any changes might break AE). I would like to reiterate: you're running a version that was released six years ago on an operating system that was released much more recently. So, be careful how you tread. However, if you're not running 9.0.3, you're missing some bug fix updates that might solve your problem.
I would suggest upgrading to a newer version of AE.
That being said, as Dave mentions, CS4 and earlier had lots of trouble with MPEG-4 and other codecs that used interframe compression. Can you open the files in your version of Premiere? If so, you can use Premiere or the Adobe Media Encoder to convert to a proper intermediate codec. MOV is just a container format. QuickTime with the PNG codec will work in After Effects CS4 with no problems as will the other codecs Dave mentions.

  • How can I use time machine to back up and play media?

I just bought an external hard drive that I wanted to back up some media files onto (music and photos).  I also want to stove videos/movies on the hard drive and play them from there.  A few questions:
    1. Is that the same as backing up with time machine or is it referred to as something else?
    2.  Can I use time machine to add new files, or should I do that manually?
    3. Once the files are on my hard drive, can I remove them from my computer or should I keep them there?
I know that these questions may seem obvious, but I'm concerned about losing files because I don't understand what time machine actually does.  Please feel free to ask me questions if you need to understand my question better.  Thanks!

Time Machine makes a backup of your hard drive, which you can restore from, but not use as a repository of data.
Time Machine automatically makes incremental backups as you change things on the Mac HD.
Time Machine is not an archive, meaning if you make a backup, and then delete the originals from your Mac, Time Machine will eventually delete the copies it has made.
However, if you copy the files directly to the external, then you can remove them from the computer. But, those will be your only copies. If that disk dies, they'll be gone. So, that's really not a backup. It's the only source.
You can back up to Time Machine and also store other files on the same disk.

  • Two hard drives and iTunes?

Hello all: I have two HDs in my Quicksilver, and was thinking of using the extra one to store and play all of my music. I aim to import all of my CDs and store them away. So, my questions:
    1. How do I import the tracks to the 2nd drive and play them through my original iTunes app on the first drive, which is an 80-gig drive with 50 gigs available?
    2. Is doing this to save space on the first drive worth it?
    3. Related: I have a first-generation iPod, which I love and which is still going strong, but I do not think it plays AAC format tracks. That said, what is the difference between AAC and Apple Lossless Encoder? I want to make sure I import the tracks at the highest quality feasible through iTunes.
    Thanks
G4 Quicksilver and 17i PB, Pismo   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   Germany 2006 - Go FCK!

    1)
Create a folder on your 2nd HD which should contain all your music. You can name it whatever you want.
In iTunes go to Preferences>Advanced>General and set the 'iTunes Music folder location' to the folder you just created.
Check the boxes 'Keep iTunes Music folder organized' and 'Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library'
Select 'Consolidate Library...' in the Advanced menu in the menubar.
this will copy all files to the second HD.
After verifying all files are on your 2nd HD, delete the music files on the 1st one.
Edit: Be sure not to delete the 'iTunes Library' file. This article tells you more about the library files:
What are the iTunes library files?
    2)
Freeing space on your startup HD can improve stability in case you don't have at least 10% of free disk space.
    3)
My 1st gen. 5GB iPod (with bad battery) does play AAC including protected AAC (purchased songs)
    Hope this helps.

    Nick,
You will need a Windows PC with iTunes running and a working copy of Windows Media Player available on the machine.  (iTunes calls WMP for the conversion from WMA).  Then just drag the WMA file(s) into the iTunes Music window.
iTunes will detect it and give you the dialog shown below, to which you choose "Convert."  iTunes will create a new version in the format/bitrate set in your Import preferences (MP3 in my example below), and immediately add it to your iTunes library.
The WMA original will be left in place, so you can delete it if you have no other need for it.

New ipod touch and Harman Kardon boom box:
I must say I am very disappointed that I cannot charge my ipod while playing music anymore.
I had no problem with all other ipod generations. Can this somehow be fixed?
While the Harmon Kardon boom box was posted on the apple web site as recommended. And Now???
Has anyone information regarding this issue??

I'm having a similar problem with my new touch 3rd gen, with a Sony clock/radio/docking model ICF-CL75iP.
No sound coming out of the speakers, and no picture or video showing on the radio's LCD screen.
Sony replied to me that it's intended to work with any ipod touch 1st and 2nd gen but not with 3rd generation. Whose fault it is? Wrong software from Sony or Apple?
I guess I'll try to downgrade the firmware from 3.1.2 to the previous one. If not then I'm stuck
