Harman Kardon SoundSticks II with iPad?

Dear all,
did someone try the Harman Kardon SoundSticks II together with the iPAD?
Apparently there is no sound control on the Harman Kardon SoundSticks II.
The price and the sound is good on the Harman Kardon SoundSticks II, but would you recommend it together with the iPad for the living room? I am not looking for a very very expensive high end music equipment, therefore my question. Is it feasable to use the Harman Kardon SoundSticks II and the iPad?
Regards
Sam

You can use the dock if you want to use the line out (which has a volume tap) from the dock connector to your soundsticks. Otherwise you can just use a M/M miniplug cable and go from the headphone port on the iPad into the soundsticks. You'll also need this cable to use with the iPad dock.

The Soundsticks do not have Bluetooth or WiFi so you cannot connect in that manner. You can wait for iOS 4.2 in November, buy one of these: http://store.apple.com/us/product/FB321LL/A?mco=MTA4MjcyODY and the above cable and connect wirelessly via AirPlay.

  • Harman Kardon Soundsticks not sounding with new iMac

I have the original Harman Kardon Soundsticks, which have worked beautifully since the early 2000s, till this new iMac - they're not showing up as an output source in Sound Preference.  I've contacted both Applecare Support - no idea - and Harman Kardon - Apple isn't supplying the drivers anymore.  The thing is, they played just fine with the older iMac just replaced, which was running MacOS 10.7.2.  Drivers are software, right?  Were they just dropped from the OS with this last update, or is there a hardware issue?  The older iMac was a 24", Intel, that I bought in April, 2007.
Anyway, this is very disappointing since the Soundsticks have excellent sound and still work.
Is there a way to get the drivers, or is there also a hardware component?
    Thanks!

Ok, here's what happened in the end.  As I was dismantling the Soundsticks system from my computer and desk area, I discovered that the plug going into the Harmon Kardon power block from the electrical plug was loose.  Aha !!!!  I realized - loose plug!  Let's try again.  And, I did, after ensuring that all other plugs were also snug in their sockets.  And, yes, the Soundsticks have been doing just fine ever since : )
Ok, re. plugs.  There's a cord that runs from the subwoofer to the power block, and it's solid.  Then on the other end of the block is a cable that plugs into the block on one end and the wall on the other.  It was the plug into the block that was lose, and I didn't realize it ' cause it was under the desk, nor did I recall that it could separate from the block.
I was so thankful that the solution ended up being so simple!  . . . and so glad to be able to continue to use that sound system.

  • Harman/kardon soundsticks II wireless ios 6 problems

    Hello there!
I have the harman/kardon soundsticks II wireless, and since i´ve upgraded for the ios 6 i´m always having droupouts with the bluetooth connection, with my ipad 3 and my iphone 5.
With the ios 5 it worked just fine!
Does anyone have the same problem?
Is there any tip/trick to solve this problem?
Thank you and best regards from Portugal!
    Pedro Ferreirinha

HK replied on my e-mail saying this problem is dispatched to a "higher technical department" and that they tested but did not get any disconnections. I suggested that they run a longer test as these problems might only occur after 10-15 minutes.
In the meantime the number of complaints is growing and HK does not respond well to that. In my case they first suggested i'd upgrade to iOS 6.1.2 (from iOS 6.0) but that clearly didn't help. Also i was asked to test the set in another room. The most hilarious suggestion was given to someone on Amazon where HK suggested they'd keep the volume up as high as possible. Obviously that didn't help.
Testing with an older iOS5 device made it clear to me that this problem only occurs with iOS6, in every incarnation until version 6.1.2.
It might well be that firmware on the Soundsticks can't be upgraded by a consumer but HK themselves can. I would not wait for an iOS update. As JimHdK stated there is nothing wrong with the iOS side of things. HK eventually will have to issue a callback action for this but i'm not going to wait for that. My set is going back to the store. I didn't buy a BT set for cabled use, that stinks.
Problem remains that there are no comparable products to replace it. The sound, the looks, the stereo-effect, the price: they are still unbeatable in my view. Anyone thinking otherwise?

  • Harman Kardon SoundSticks Wireless bluetooth on Yosemite problem

    Hi there,
Since upgraded to Yosemite, I have problems with re-connecting my Harman Kardon SoundSticks Wireless (via bluetooth) to MacBook Pro (retina 15" late 2013). Every time when that happen, I need to restart the speakers to make them connect again.
Is there some solution for this problem?
    Cheers!

I’m having the exact same problem but with the Harman Kardon Esquire Mini, also on the Macbook Pro, same year as yours. It started when I still had Mountain Lion iOS. They first said it was a hardware problem then installed Yosemite as the fix. It did not fix it. My Mac will not pair with hubby's JBL bluetooth speaker either. And the HK speaker works fine with all our other devices.

  • Harman Kardon Soundsticks issue

I use Harman Kardon Soundsticks with my Mini- suddenly stopped recognizing them. Why?

After few test I did find THE simple solution.
Put in Macintosh HD/Library/Preferences/Audio an old file from 10.5.8(Leopard) replace the newest file by the old one AND SoundSticks are back to work.Name of the file from 10.5.8 ; com.apple.audio.SystemSettings.plist

  • Harman Kardon Soundsticks & iOS 7

The Harman Kardon Soundsticks speaker system would not function properly via Bluetooth with iOS 6. Has anyone had experience with it using iOS 7?
Was the Bluetooth system changed in iOS 7?

  • Anyone know how to get harman kardon soundsticks II to work on new iMac Mavericks

Anyone know how to get harman kardon soundsticks II to work on new iMac Mavericks??

I'm using the original HK Soundsticks on a 2013 MacBook Air running Mavericks.
Don't they show up in the Sound Preferences?  Are they plugged directly into your iMac?
    Little more info would help.

  • Harman Kardon USB Soundsticks (1st Gen) Screeching/Static

After upgrading to 10.6/10.6.1, I now get periodic, short screeches/static on my USB Harman Kardon Soundsticks (the USB-only version), regardless of the source of sound. So playing music is definitely now intolerable.
Anyone else experiencing USB sound related issues?
This is the last straw for me in using USB-based speakers as I've they always "disconnected" and were no longer accessible when performing large file transfers with USB drives. Only a restart would make them accessible again. With this new issue in Snow Leopard, I'm ditching them for mini-plug based speakers.

Don't give up +so fast+. I'm trying to find a way to lower the USB SoundSticks' volume for years now without luck. But other than that, they still work fine with 10.6.1 over here!
I know of the static noise problem, but I only had that years ago with 10.3 and/or 10.4 and it was caused by my USB hub. Connecting them directly to my Mac worked fine and since using the following setup I never had a problem:
MacBook Pro (had several models and PowerBooks before) - Cinema Display - Belkin USB hub - SoundSticks
Yes, there's 2 hubs involved and it works fine. I use the somewhat older 30" Cinema Display and this Belkin hub: http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=158910

  • More finegrained audio volume control? (Harman/Kardon USB SoundSticks)

    Hi,
I've been asking this question for every major release since 10.2 and I am near to just give up on it. I use the Harman/Kardon SoundSticks (the older USB model, not version 2 with the regular audio jack) and since 10.2 they are simply too loud. Since the speakers themselves do not have any volume control knob it has to be a software solution.
With OS X's sound volume keys I can only use "1 bar of volume" when in front of my Mac and even that is too loud. The only solution is to turn it off completely or to lower it a little bit via the volume control slider in the menu bar. This results in approximately "3/4 bar of volume". Moving it just a tiny bit down from here results in muted audio.
Is there any way to just reduce the overall audio volume via software? Sure, I can do it app by app, but I really need a systemwide solution!
    Thanks
    Björn

Then maybe you're really lucky or just like the high volume setting. This problem exists for years now and it's definitely not caused by my hardware/software. It was the same with the following Macs:
    - Power Mac G4
    - iBook G3
    - iBook G4
    - Power Mac G4 Cube
    - PowerBook G4 Ti
    - PowerBook G4 Alu
    - MacBook Pro CD
    - MacBook Pro C2D
And it happened on all releases of OS X from 10.2 up to 10.5. All versions were installed clean without upgrading so I really have reason to believe it's Apple's sound driver for the SoundSticks...

    Don

sadly, the iSub hasn't worked on any newer Macs for about 7 or 8 years.

  • Harman Kardon Go+Play compatible with ipod touch gen1?

Is the Harman Kardon Go+Play compatible with the first generation of iPod touch? I ask cause there are a couple of music systems, especially portable ones, which don't take sound from the gen 1 touch.

I would check their website or packaging.
