Harman Kardon Subwoofer

Hi,
I have a Harman Kardon Subwoofer (transparent edition) and would like to connect it with my new MacBookPro. But unfortunally, the system does not recognize this audio monitor. Do I need a special driver? Has anybody an idea?
Thanks
Hartmut

just a subwoofer alone? How would that work? Since it's a subsystem to something larger, I'm not seeing how you'd use it. I have several inexpensive audio systems with subwoofers, but they include stereo speakers along with the subwoofer, and this just plugs into the audio output.
The same audio output on the laptop is also a TOS digital output. In theory (haven't done it myself) you'd plug in a TOS link cable and take that to a more complex audio system that could handle the digital input. And there are audio systems out there that work off USB and firewire. All I've heard lately is that the USB tends to be more reliable for audio.

Is there a way I can adapt my older Harman Kardon powered subwoofer, with a USB input, to my Intel iMac 8,1?
    Don

sadly, the iSub hasn't worked on any newer Macs for about 7 or 8 years.

  • Harman Kardon Soundsticks not sounding with new iMac

I have the original Harman Kardon Soundsticks, which have worked beautifully since the early 2000s, till this new iMac - they're not showing up as an output source in Sound Preference.  I've contacted both Applecare Support - no idea - and Harman Kardon - Apple isn't supplying the drivers anymore.  The thing is, they played just fine with the older iMac just replaced, which was running MacOS 10.7.2.  Drivers are software, right?  Were they just dropped from the OS with this last update, or is there a hardware issue?  The older iMac was a 24", Intel, that I bought in April, 2007.
Anyway, this is very disappointing since the Soundsticks have excellent sound and still work.
Is there a way to get the drivers, or is there also a hardware component?
    Thanks!

Ok, here's what happened in the end.  As I was dismantling the Soundsticks system from my computer and desk area, I discovered that the plug going into the Harmon Kardon power block from the electrical plug was loose.  Aha !!!!  I realized - loose plug!  Let's try again.  And, I did, after ensuring that all other plugs were also snug in their sockets.  And, yes, the Soundsticks have been doing just fine ever since : )
Ok, re. plugs.  There's a cord that runs from the subwoofer to the power block, and it's solid.  Then on the other end of the block is a cable that plugs into the block on one end and the wall on the other.  It was the plug into the block that was lose, and I didn't realize it ' cause it was under the desk, nor did I recall that it could separate from the block.
I was so thankful that the solution ended up being so simple!  . . . and so glad to be able to continue to use that sound system.

  • Problem Faint sound x205-SLi1 (every x205) on windows 7. harman/kardon 4.1 (drivers)

I have a problem with sound in my x205-sli1 but the same (harman kardon speaker 4.1) are in evry x205 model. I had a win XP and sound was pure and spacious. After format I instaled windows 7 i instaled new Realtek Audio Drivers for WIndows 7 and sound isnt as good as it was. I seems that work only 2 bigest sperakers. Suboofer and Two other smal speaker seems not working.
i am not alone becasuse a fount this post :"
Last night I finished my upgrade to Windows 7, Ran the Official "Toshiba Software Installer for WIndows 7" and was initially pleased to see that nearly all my original Laptop funcaionality, from my Card Reader, to my Fingerprint scanner worked without an issue.
This joy though was soon crushed the momment I went on youtube, and experianced my computers "New" audio fidelity.
My Laptop came with built in Harman Kardon 4.1 speakers, and I have always been complimented by friends at how rich my sound quality was compared to other laptops they had seen.
Now it seems that the currently most updated Realtek Audio Drivers for WIndows 7 (And for that matter Vista and XP aswell, I've tried everything) do not seem to be able to do more than just basic stero sound.
Both my surround speakers and my Subwoofer seem to be completly ignored, and my computer now has a tinny sound to it that is rather offputting when compaired to it's previous preformance."
PEOPLE PLEASE HELP BECAUSE I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO FIX THIS.

I have the x205 S9810 and have noticed the same thing, Had Vista Prior with High Quality sound and then updated to Windows 7 with only Stereo. I have tried the Realtec drivers and the Toshiba Drivers and there is no diference really. I do know that the Microsoft driver does not work with the built in mic at all. My Subwoofer and surrounds are not puting out any sound and in the speaker settings there is not any setting for adding the surrounds like there was in Vista. I hope someone at Toshiba can let us know what is being done about this issue soon.

    Hi
All the compatible notebook parts can be purchased from the ASP in your country. I would recommend to contact the guys and to ask for such speakers.
    The Toshiba global ASP database can be found here;

  • How to test harman-kardon 4+1 speakers on Qosmio X305-712?

Hello -- when I open up the Realtek HD Audio Manager, the only option for "Speaker Configuration" is Stereo, but the system has the Harman-Kardon 4 speakers on the top and the subwoofer on the bottom -- that's the physical layout. Things sound good in stereo, but I can't tell whether the 4+1 speaker layout is working properly. Anyone happen to know what I can do to verify / test / find out? Is there a third-party testing program? Some other testing program from Harman-Kardon or from Realtek? Any other ideas? I have the latest sound drivers from the Toshiba web site for Windows 7 64-bit (Dolby, Realtek, and Speech I think are the three drivers in the "sound" category.
    System is a brand-new X305-712 Qosmio.
    Thanks in advance!

I own an X305-Q706 which also comes with Harman Kardon 4.1 speakers... and just like everybody else I'm very disappointed with this sound issue. A real let down.
Everything worked nicely on Vista. I decided to upgrade to Windows 7 and everything seemed to also work nicely until I tried out the sound. It was horrible. the Dolby Control Center was working but there were only two speakers available. With the sound expander and natural bass it sounded even worse, probably because it wasn't working with all 4 speakers. Not sure tho. I definitely get a great deal of bass from the woofer, probably what's wrong is that the Dolby Control Center doesn't work so well on 7.The sound just sucks when the Dolby features are enabled.
As for the speaker configuration, the only setup I have available is Stereo, no Surround or 4 speaker option. I could have sworn there was a 4 speaker choice on Vista. Also, I remember there was another program that came with Vista that's not included in 7, I think it was Sound Max or soemthing like that. It was a small tool to enhance the bass and treble besides the one from Dolby.

  • New ipod touch and Harman Kardon boom box:

New ipod touch and Harman Kardon boom box:
I must say I am very disappointed that I cannot charge my ipod while playing music anymore.
I had no problem with all other ipod generations. Can this somehow be fixed?
While the Harmon Kardon boom box was posted on the apple web site as recommended. And Now???
Has anyone information regarding this issue??

I'm having a similar problem with my new touch 3rd gen, with a Sony clock/radio/docking model ICF-CL75iP.
No sound coming out of the speakers, and no picture or video showing on the radio's LCD screen.
Sony replied to me that it's intended to work with any ipod touch 1st and 2nd gen but not with 3rd generation. Whose fault it is? Wrong software from Sony or Apple?
I guess I'll try to downgrade the firmware from 3.1.2 to the previous one. If not then I'm stuck

  • Harman kardon go +play

i recently bought the harman kardon go + play, however i cannot get the s-video connection to work with my tv. the ipod is an 80gb classic and i have it set to video out, however it comes up with the error message "connect video accessory" and won't recognise the hk go + play when its connected, any ideas anyone ??

The latest crop of iPods require an authentication chip in video cables. It sounds as if you have a device which doesn't meet these newer requirements.

Thanks for your help. How do I do it with the iTunes on the PC. All my music is on an external hard drive and not in iTunes
    Thanks in advance

    Nick,
You will need a Windows PC with iTunes running and a working copy of Windows Media Player available on the machine.  (iTunes calls WMP for the conversion from WMA).  Then just drag the WMA file(s) into the iTunes Music window.
iTunes will detect it and give you the dialog shown below, to which you choose "Convert."  iTunes will create a new version in the format/bitrate set in your Import preferences (MP3 in my example below), and immediately add it to your iTunes library.
The WMA original will be left in place, so you can delete it if you have no other need for it.

  • Harman Kardon drive and play

I have a harman kardon drive and play fitted to my car that works fine with all my older apple stuff. I am now in possession of later generation apple iPhone and iPod touch with a different plug. I have purchased an adaptor to interface the old type plug with a new plug, but it does not work with the harman kardon The adaptor works when i use through the computer via an old apple cable and an iPhone 5 with the later type plug.
Any ideas how i could interface my new iPod touch through the HK Drive and play?

Does anyone know if the Harman Kardon Drive and Play unit will work with the Iphone 3G.
It does. Click here for more information.

  • Apple tv and harman kardon receiver?

    I just bought a new harman-kardon avr 247 receiver
Problem is that when I hook up the apple tv to the hk via component video, it will only display the apple tv while rebooting? Have the avr going to my tv via hdmi which does work fine with my directv component setup?
I also down sized the output from apple tv to 480i all the way to 1080i with same issue.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

If you have a component output then 480i should work. However, unless your TV has a 16:9 widescreen option all of the UI and videos will be distorted (people will look too tall and thin, etc.).
My rear-projection TV supports 480i, 480p, and 1080i and it allows me to manually select the aspect ratio (either 4:3 or 16:9). If I select 4:3 on either the 480i or 480p settings the Apple TV works but I have the distortion as I previously described. However, you might want to do some searches on the internet to find a workaround for this issue (special test modes on the Apple TV).

  • Harman-kardon speakers and various loud noises( mac mini)

My Harman-Kardon ball speakers, which have served me well from my old Cube days, are going loopy.
They have been happily USB connected to my 17" studio display (and powered from it) Recently, I've been hearing clicking noises, which can turn to a very loud 'rushing' sound if the computer has been active for more than an hour. I know some have had software issues with their sound systems due to 10.4 updates, but none reported very loud sounds. I came home yesterday to what sounded like an apartment fire alarm, it was that loud, but it was only my 'sleeping' computer. The noise ended when I pulled out the USB.
Could it be software? I don't want to buy new speakers if it might be. Or, time for knew speakers?-- if so, any advice? Happy New Year. Kevin

While it may not be all that helpful, I had some issues with an Altec lansing speaker set on my G5, where background noise was abnormally high almost all the time, and from time to time there would be rushing noises which grew very loud. It turned out to be a faulty USB hub, even though the speakers were not USB connected.
To troubleshoot your system, I would disconnect everything external bar the basic essentials, including any hubs or other devices, even the keyboard and mouse, and test the system that way. It would not be expected for software or MacOS itself to cause the sort of effects you describe.

  • Harman Kardon

OK I'm about to give up and abandon my prejudice for surround sound. I suppose I can still listen in stereo and at least the kids have the option of using it when I'm not there.
Someone has told be there is a Harman Kardon receiver in cash converters for just over a £ 100, no idea what model and I don't suppose it's the latest model but it does sound quite cheap and in 'as new condition', so I don't suppose it will hurt too much.
Not being all that interested in this area I really don't know what I'm buying, does anyone know whether this is a good brand or even better know of any issues with the tv. Can't say I've heard of it before or seen it mentioned on these forums, unlike Yamaha and Onkyo. So either no one here has this brand or there aren't any reported issues.
I realise without a model number it's difficult to comment on the receiver, but I'm more interested in a comment on the brand at this time. Whilst I haven't had any interest in receivers to date, I'm not completely blind to the technical side and should be able to decide from the specs exactly what it does, I just won't know how well this brand does what it does.

Many high-end audio manufacturers to my mind though have lost out with the digital 'revolution', as reasonable quality goods are available for often a fraction of the cost of similar items 20 years ago.
Just to expand on that, before widespread DVD and home cinema options were available, specialist hi-fi stores could still do well from high-end stereo audio kit.
These days though consumers want kit that is a jack of all trades and the perception of value for money factors highly. 'True hi-fi' products have been marginalised by the home cinema factor, and many hi-fi stores who used to turn their noses up at anything other than pure stereo have had to adopt cheaper AV kit simply to stay afloat.
As with all purchases there's often a law of diminishing returns with hi-fi. The £5000 separates system will be far better than the £500 all in one mini system, but not 10x as much.
How do you attract the average consumer to spend a few hundred pounds on a 'quality' DVD player when they're £15 in Argos or Asda - it has to do a heck of a lot more to justify the price tag, whereas as an early adopter I was happy to pay nearly £600 for my first DVD player some 10 years ago. I would be very reluctant to do so now.
High-end manufacturers also sometimes seem completely out of touch with reality in terms of pricing - for example I've just had an invite from the local hi-fi dealer to go to an evening demo of a Naim hard drive based player.
The spec includes 2x400GB mirrored internal drives, USB and network functionality, and undoubtedly very high quality audio circuitry. It can output/playback non-DRM FLAC at up to 24 bit 192kHz which admitedly AppleTV cannot, but even though I'd love to have one for it's sonic prowess, I have to wonder how much better it can sound compared to the AppleTV when it costs £4,500 vs £200! The interface also looks clunky - onboard TFT display - you may be able to connect to a TV but looks like it's composite or S-video only! You appear to be able to connect a keyboard/mouse and control from a PC.
Now I'm sure the Naim device will sound very good, and if it includes a high-end CD player anyway might be more justifiable, but in terms of VFM AppleTV blows it out of the water.
I guess there are plenty of people out there though that have no desire to use a computer and would be happy to pay for a high-end all in one solution.
Sorry to digress - more of a blog type comment!
