Harmful statistics in DB13
Hi Friends,
Whats that mean if we get warning in Check db job that there are harmful statistics for some tables and indexes. I browse thru some of the threads before posting and I could able to get the solution but I want to know what if these harmful statistics exist in the database without being taken care and what happen if we delete these harmful statistics will it effect the performance of database for a good or bad ?
Thank you
Mandra
Ignore my comment, if you still run Oracle 9!
murali reddy wrote:

This advice is outdated since Oracle 10!
Since Oracle 10 ALL tables, even Cluster Tables should have statistics.
Probably in your Upgrade someone forgot to update the corresponding check tables.
Work out Note 403704, choose the correct scripts for your DB release and apply them.

Harmful statistics???
Harmful statistics detected error is frequntly occuring on the system
Well deleting them is a temporary solution
Should i create new statistics
Is there any other permanent solution for this???
Help appreciatedHello,
I partly disagree with Yoganand here.
SAP's opinion about useful and harmful statistics depends on SAP release, on database release, and of course on the table.
A permanent solution will begin by finding out whether these statistics really are harmful for your release.
SAP note 122718 might give you are start.
You may have to delete statistics, or you may have to adjust your DBCHECK, in order not to get further warnings.

Issue with check optimiser statistics in DB13
We have scheduled Check Optimiser statistics and update optimiser statistics in our development server through DB13. But after execution of the action it is showing in red and no action log could be obtained. How to obtain the Action Log for both the Action and the shows the error 'SCHDEULING FAILED'?
abhishek40958 wrote:
My colleague cleared the cleanup logs by clicking "cleanup all scheduled actions in DB 13" the check DB worked fine and so did the check optimizer and after about 2 hrs everything completed successfully but now when i initialize my tape it shows the STATUS AS UNAVAILABLE although my tape device and tape are working fine don't the reason for the tape now not being able to initialize.
Did you checked init<DBSID>.sap over "action parameters" tab? Check configuration in "init<DBSID>.sap", also.

DB13 Check and update optimizer stat error: ORA-01652: unable to extend tem
Hi SAP Gurus,
When running Check and Update Optimizer Statistics in DB13, an error occurs.

Looking at tablespace SYSTEM in DB02, the percent used is 58. Auto-extent feature is OFF. Will turning the auto-extent ON, remove the error? It seems like Your user (by a mistake) have tablespace SYSTEM as temporary tablespace.
Connect as sysdba in Your database and check which temp tablespaces awaiable, and size of them:
select tablespace_name, sum(bytes)/1024/1024 "Size of TEMP TBS in MB" from dba_temp_files group by tablespace_name;
Check which users having SYSTEM as tamp-tbs:
select username, temporary_tablespace from dba_users where temporary_tablespace like 'SYSTEM' order by 1;
Change those users to have one of your temp-tablespaces:
alter user &username temporary tablespace &&TempTBS;
It's also a good idea to have autoextend on on Your temp TBS, but remember to set maxsize so you doesn't fill up your disksystem.
Hope this solve Your problems.

PSAP SID TABLESPACE UPDATE STATISTICS ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES
Dear All,
Can anyone explain me if we select PSAP SID table space only for update statistics from DB13 Instead of selecting all tables for update statistics, what are the advantages and disadvantages of selecting only PSAP SID tablespace .
I will be glad if you can suggest any related sapnote or sapmaterial.
we are working on SAP ECC5 and oracle version id 9i and operating system is windows.Hi arunkumar ,
When you are updating statitics then update for all table space why for one only. After all it will increase the performance of your database.

Database performance: avg. DB time is high
My system is ECC6, MSSQL 2005 64 bit.
I got a ERA report from my solution manager and it showed that we had a performance problem.
Our performance overview is red because of the database performance.
The avg. DB time in ms is 2768890,3. It's very high.
Could you please help us on this issue?
LeoHai,
There might number of reasons for high DB time.
Check your I/O statistics, check your table structure, create Indexes if needed for efficient table access.
You can schedule Optimize statistics in DB13 to get the statistics upto date which helps DB to get the best possible way to access data from your DB.
Analyse the DB buffers and adjust them to get optimal performance. (Should be done by experienced DB admins).
Check the below links....

Index Compression in SAP - system/basis tables?
Hi!
In thread Oracle comression in SAP environments the Oracle 10g feature index compression was discussed. We are now going to implement it also. SAP and Oracle say, this can be done for any index.
So we selected the biggest and the most frequently used indexes and analyzed them. We could save about 100GB disk space.
But here comes my question:
In the hitlist of our most frequently used and biggest Indexes there are also some basis table indexes.
A few samples:
BALHDR~0
BALHDR~1
BALHDR~2
BALHDR~3
BDCP~0
BDCP~1

SWW_CONT~0
TBTCS~1
TODIR~0
TRFCQOUT~5

Is it really recommended to compress indexes of SAP Basis Tables also - especially in the area of Repository/Dictionary, t/qRFC and/or "Verbuchung" (VB...)?
Thanx for any hint and/or comment!
Regards,
VolkerHi Volkar,
I have succesfully tested the oracle index compression on ECC5 environment for the following tables in a sandbox environment;
ppoix
pcl2
pcl4
In total I saved around 60GB in the tablespaces.
Before compression I started a payroll run to see what time this will take without compression.
After compression of the indexes I re-executed the payroll which took exactly the same time as without compression (2 hours). So no impact on performance.
Also did an update statistics in DB13 -> no impact
With brtools: force update of specific table -> no impact
So we are seriously thinking about to take this into production.
I have also looked at BI environment but concluded that there was nothing to gain.
Unfortunately our infocubes are well build meaning that the fact tables contains the actual data and the corresponding dimension tables only the surrogate IDu2019s (SIDu2019s).
Those dimension tables are actually very small (64k) and not suitable for index compression.
Next step will be some Workflow tables.
