Harmon Kardon AVR 430 and Audigy

I'm trying to run MP3's through my HK reciever (It has a built in decoder). It looks like it should be straight forward enough. As I understand, I can use a stereo or mono miniplug out of the sound card and crossover to RCA plug for the reciever. I've done that and can't seem to get anything to the reciever. The computer is in one room and the reciever is about sixty feety away. I used the following wiring setup from Radio Shack:
Evolution Audio Cable Speaker Cable (25') - Phono Plug to Phono plug with 24 gauge wire. (3 lengths)
Gold Plated Dual Phono Plug Coupler - Two of them
Attenuator Phone Plug Phono Jack to Mono 3.5mm - Minimplug to RCA crossover.
I connected between the SB Digital Out and the HK Coaxial Digital in. Both manuals agree that this is the way to go.
The HK manual indicates that if a digital signal is not recieved, it automatically switches to analog reception. This seems to be the case, no signal reaching the reciever.
We tested the wire by running analog signal to the reciever and that worked so I am coming to the conclusion that I am not outputing a digital signal. Is there an easy way to check this and does anyone have any suggestions?

Ben,
Thanks for having a look at my problem. I had tried that already and then I also read in the user manual the following:
Connecting Digital Speaker Systems
The Digital Out output on your Audigy 2 ZS or Audigy 2 ZS Platinum is continuously acti've except during DVD-Audio playback.
Enabling the Digital Output Only selection in Creative Speaker Settings will disable analog speaker output. It is not necessary to enable Digital Output Only to use the Digital Out connector.
I only read the manual because I was at the end of my rope in terms of finding a solution. I am planning on playing MP3's which I should have mentioned earlier.
What I think I have determined is that my my wire connection is solid so either I am not getting output from the card or the reciever is not understanding the input. I'm looking for a way to test the digital out port from the card to start to narrow things down. Any help is appreciated.
Regards,
LPT

  • Harmon Kardon Apple Pro Round Speakers (minijack) and 2008 Mac Pro?

I was told at the Apple Store that I would need to get an adapter to use my Harmon Kardon Apple Pro round speakers (minijack) with my new 2008 Mac Pro. I bought a Stereo-to-stereo 3/32 to 1/8' stereo audio adapter.
    No good... doesn't work.
Is there an adapter out there (preferably at Radio Shack) that's available to get these speakers working on my Mac Pro?

I used to use a iMic(still have it) from Griffin Technology that said it csn be used as a level line out to power speakers. They are here
    http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/imic Maybe call them up,
and I don't see why Radio Shack wouldn't have something similar.

  • Version upgrade prevents battery to be charged in Harmon Kardon Bridge

Downloaded new software version V1.0.3and battery will not charge in the Harmon Kardon bridge on my AVR 354 receiver. All other controls and functionality work as usual, just not the ability to maintain a charge to the iPod.
    Any recommendations?

Batteries are considered consumables. Defective batteries are eligible for replacement. Over the phone, they read from a script and must rely on your descriptions. At an Apple Store, they will connect an iPod or external HDD to your MBP and run a utility that will diagnose your battery as ok, consumed, or defective. If the last one, they will hand you a new one.

  • Harman Kardon avr 1700

    Hi,
I noticed Best Buy is selling the Harman Kardon avr 1700 for $250. I am hesitant to buy because I noticed it has a different type of amplifier/power supply, type D I think. The receiver weights 12.8 lbs vs 18lbs.
Has anyone listened to the Harman Kardon 1700 in Best Buy stores. I am curious of the sound quality. There are no reviews of the sound quality besides Best Buy reviews on the product page.
Best Buy black friday ads show that the Denon AVR 1613 will be on sale for $275. I was curious how the HK 1700 would sound compared to the Denon 1613. If the Denon sounds alot better I would wait and buy it online from BB on black friday.  the specs show that the Denon 1613 and HK 1700 have comparable features for the most part.
I bought JBL CS 480 surround sound system and need a good receiver to power it.  Will accept other suggestions too.
    thanks,
    Mike

I was skeptical too, but these modern class D amps are really starting to impress me.
I'm  fan if the line level Denon units out.
Real audiophiles test amps without all the effect processing.
    Real audiophiles aren't buying $300.00 AVR's.
The Audessy MultiEQ is still the better of the pinking technologies.
So you have to be rich to be an audiophile? Thanks for the 411, but I do not subscribe to your aristocratic values, sir.
I said nothing of the sort. I simply stated that audiophiles don't buy $300.00 AVR's. Most of them most likely aren't buying their gear at Best Buy either, at least not outside of the Magnolia section. Most audiophiles are still buying seperates rather than an AVR because let's face it, for music, which is what most audiophiles really care about, $300.00 AVR's simply aren't that great.
However, $300.00 AVR's can be great for multichannel. The basic internals like the DSP are the same across most model lines on most companies AVR's. The differences in price comes solely from things like the number and types of connections, network or serial connectivity, and the software features in the AVR. Most AVR's under $300.00 don't come with helpful features like Pinking Tools (Audyssey MutliEQ, EzSet) or volume balancing and loudness adjustment features like Audyssey Dynamic EQ and Volume.
For that price getting MultiEQ, Audyssey Dynamic EQ and Volume the Denon is a great bargain for anyone that's looking for an entry level AVR.

  • GarageBand opens, My Harmon Kardon Bass goes Distorted!

This has been happening for a while, but more so now than before. Anyways, I've noticed a pattern. Everytime I have my Harmon Kardon 20 watt sub plugged in via USB to my 17" Powerbook G4 and am playing music with iTunes and open up GarageBand, the bass turns all crackely and blown. Also, whenever I play or use bass on GarageBand through a hip hop kit or whatever, the bass is blown or distorted. With garageband closed, there is no problem. If I open up GarageBand and the bass goes crazy, I usually have to close GarageBand in order for the bass to return to normal. This usually works. What is going on here? It's driving me crazy, and headphones are no good because they're ruining my ears. Any thoughts or anyone else have this problem?

This is only a guess, because I've not got HK USB speakers: But maybe the master volume in GB is up too high. Take it right down and then turn up your speakers, see if that does it.

  • Harmon/kardon speaker problem in south korea

    hello-
i have a set of harmon/kardon "champagne" speakers (model HK 695) that i bought a few years ago at the apple store. they have worked great since in the states and in turkey, where i had to convert the power source from 220v to 110v. i used a fairly large, plug-in-style converter that had a fuse b/c i was paranoid about blowing the speakers out (i found out later that the bass unit also has its own fuse).
this week i have moved to a new school in seoul, south korea and i have started to have some problems. when i plug the speakers in (with the power source converted to 110v) i get feedback, like wind blowing through the speakers. it doesn't matter if the jack is plugged in to the computer/ipod or not, there is a constant "whoosh-whooshing" sound that is driving me nuts.
what's going on? i haven't had a single problem in 4 years. i'm not very good with a/v stuff, so if anyone has any ideas as to what may be the problem, or more importantly, how to fix the problem, i would appreciate any help.
    thanks,
    jesse
    seoul, south korea
ibook g3 dual usb   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

i'm not sure if the outlets are grounded. it's a brand-new building, completes in may, designed to "western standards." i'll check with the electricians at the school to see if they know.
i've tried several things: different outlets, different converters, with other electronics around it and without. like i sais, no problems in the states or in turkey, where power surges are the norm. i'll check on the mh thing.
if this is the problem, how do i fix it?
    thanks again,

  • How to connect 2 bose speakers from my Harmon kardon tuner ?

Hi all,I need some info on how to connect 2 bose speakers (30 serie)?connected to my tuner (harmon kardon)?to my sound card audigy2. Second, I will purchase soon x-fi xtrememusic sound card, will it be the sme way to connected as audigy2 ?Thanks.

Thanks Franktank,Is it right to assume that the "line out" on the sound card is a light green in color? (where you plug a set of headphone)? My Harmon Kardon is 6 years old, 80 watt rms per chanel, and it will be connected to the "AUX" in the back panel. Is the color red on the rca jack is the positi've? If so, I will plug it to the red "AUX" in the back of the receiver? Will this kind of connection will produce stereo sound? Is this the only way to plug 2 speakers on the sound card? Thanks.

  • What accessory to use when connecting to Harman Kardon AVR

    Hi,
we use a Harman Kardon AVR 145 for our audio at home. Please can anyone advise me what accessory to use for connecting the iPad? We have the bridge for our iPod, but that is no good of course. Please advise on a cable to use. Thanx!

Sorry, but you'll have to either wait for someone owning that equipment to show up or for someone to take the time and trouble to look it up and see what sort of connection options are provided on it. Or, if you want to perhaps move the process on a bit more quickly, and seeing as how you have it right there, you could always provide that info.

  • HT1515 Harmon Kardon Sound Sticks I & wireless setup

I have Harmon Kardon Sound Sticks I.
It only has a USB cable to connect to computer & after reading discussions the speakers will only work if the usb is connected direct to computer as the Airport Express usb connection does not support it. I have a wireless router and also an Airport Express on hand. Is there any way I can set up my Macbook to play itunes wirelessly to the sound sticks?

I just updated to 10.6.8 and now mine arent working either! I have a quadcore 3ghz intel-Arrrrrrrgh! fix this!!!!!!

  • Connecting Express to Harmon/Kardon Soundsticks

    Hi,
I am interested in the Airport Express but I have the original Harmon/Kardon Sounsticks. They connect to my Mac/iBook with a USB connection. Can I use the USB connector of the Express for these speakers or will I need an audio cable? Also, I have my printer and Soundsticks plugged into a USB multijack adaptor. Can I just plug that into the Express and use both the speakers and printer wirelessly, splitting the USB signal with the adaptor?
    Thom

The only sound output on the Airport Express is the 3.5mm stereo/optical jack. The USB port will only recognise your printer and not USB speakers.

  • Buzzing on my harmon kardon speakers hooked up to headphone port

I have an Imac with Harmon Kardon soundsticksII.  Today the speakers have a loud buzz when hooked up.  Tested the speakers by plugging them into my Iphone and they sounded fine.  I tried rebooting the computer , unhooking the speakers and checking all connections, and no change.  The speakers make noise even when cpu is off just not as loud.  The speakers do play music from the computer but with the loud buzz or humming noise as well.  Same speakers and cpu have worked fine together for years, tried all the troubleshooting i can think of but no results.  My friend said my headphone port was probably loose, don't know how that would happen and wouldn't know how to fix or replace the port itself.  Side note, just went and got my headphones and plugged them in- no buzz but the sound quality *****, i'm wondering what do I do now 'cause it seems like it may be the port

Please check again to see if you have connected it correctly I had the same problem and found that I had connected it in the wrong port.

  • Will the new 7th generation i pod nano fit my harmon kardon play 11

I would like to buy the Apple Ipod  nano 7th generation . I have a Harmon Kardon play+11. Do you know if this will fit?

You will need this: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD823ZM/A/lightning-to-30-pin-adapter?fnode=45 and check with Harmon Kardon to see if the adapter is compatible with their unit.

  • Mini solo or Harmon Kardon for DVD player

I own a Harmon Kardon DVD22 and a Mini Solo with the Intel GMA950 graphics card.
Here is the link to the Harmon specs:
    http://www.harmankardon.com/specifications.aspx?cat=DVD&ser=&prod=DVD%2022&sType =H
Here is the link to the GMA950 specs:
    http://www.intel.com/products/chipsets/gma950/index.htm
They are both hooked up to a Infocus 4800 with a 1024x768 max resolution.
Maybe someone can help me compare the specs.
    *My questions are:*
*1. Do I even need the Harmon anymore?*
*2. Does the Mini play the DVD at the same or better quality*

    According to:
    http://myhometheater.homestead.com/viewingdistancecalculator.html
With my 72" width screen and my 10' viewing distance, I should be able to discern 1920x1080.
My projector maxes out at 1024x768.
The mini maxes out at 2048x1536
So like Andy0 said the TV or in my case projector is the limiting factor, not the mini as a DVD player.
I guess my next step is to upgrade to a 1080 projector.
As for ease of use, the mini is awesome. One stick on gum sized remote to control video, music, photos, podcasts. AND my wife doesn't have to deal with the intimidating 60 button Harmon Kardon remote.

  • Can you connect the Apple TV to a Harmon Kardon receiver?

I have all my sound running through the harmon kardon receiver. I just don't know how I would connect it. would I put it through the input or output?

Optical input or analogue jack input inputs on the receiver.
If it accepts HDMI in you could try that too.
Audio is output simultaneously on all AppleTV outputs.
