Harms settings for asus p9x79 - ?

Not sure if harm will see this but any to all : is there somewere with all of harms bios settings for his over clock? I did find this one: http://ppbm7.com/index.php/final-results?showall=&limitstart= but it only got a few of the settings - its just I got a asus p9x79 pro and a 3930k similar to him and I am finding the OCing a bit tricky - just would be nice to reference somone that has done it.
I am most of the way there - can get 4.9 ghz out of it in auto tune but for some reason the auto tune seems to set my RAM down from 1600mhz to about 1300mhz to do it?! A bit bizzare - I did try to set stronger settings in the digi + section but if I press auto tune after applying changes all I get is the CPU auto tune sequence of restarting etc. and at teh end my RAM is about 1300mhz and the CPU 4.7 / 4.9 (different each time I try it) :S . Just would of been nice to get a OC of my RAM as well as the CPU anyway I will be checking this part with asus if they ever answer (didnt get much luck with them last time I tried them).
I have also started manualyOCing and can get about 4.7 on the CPU but the RAM is more tricky as its 1600mhz base...possibly the asus auto tune does not change ratings? tnx.

Bill : yes but some programs stress the CPU at 100 % but the temperature can be more than 10 C different I have seen intel burn seems to do something crazy harsh but fluctuates - deffinatly the harshes tester at the exact cores very high and above I guess etc...
And yes I use HWmonitor : http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html and Real temp but they appear to show pretty much the same temps : http://www.techpowerup.com/realtemp/
AIDA64 stress test is only getting my cores to 61 C :O by the way!
What temperatures are you getting Harm or did you get before?
Just out of interest here are my digi+ settings :
I was thinking I could get temps down with it but its not stable if I lower some of these settings...

  • Ram for Asus P9X79 WS & i7 3030k G.Skill responds!

Many of us have had difficulty finding high density ram kits that would be compatible with our planed systems.  I have included below my correspondence with the G.Skill Tech Support Team in hopes that it will shed some light on this issue:
    Dear Sir:
Will the following Ram kits work with an Asus P9X79 WS LGA 2011 motherboard and Intel i7 3930k processor and Windows 7 Pro 64bit operating system?

    Timing 11-11-11-31
    Cas Latency 11
    Voltage 1.5V
I am planning on overclocking.  The computer will be used for video editing with Adobe Premiere Pro CS6.
Will the faster ram kits, (2133 speed), provide a significant improvement?
Thank you much for any advice you can provide me with,
    Wylin
Dear Customer Those are perfect kits for your motherboard and CPU. DDR3-2133 has a greater bandwidth, but it is necessary to overclock the CPU to fully take advantage. Thank you
    GSKILL SUPPORT
    Dear Wylin Tjoelker,
Your setup can go up to 2133MHz for DDR3 memory kits. However, since your purpose is for Premiere, a full 64GB would be a priority over frequency increase to 2133MHz. In other words, it is better to not run out of memory, than render a few seconds faster.
Regarding the differences between 1866MHz and 2133MHz, we would have to say not much. On artificial benchmarks, going from 1866MHz to 2133MHz result in about 3-5% performance increase. In real world scenarios, this would translate to only a few seconds difference of rendering.
We would recommend you to look into our 64GB at 1600MHz (F3-12800CL10Q2-64GBZL) if you’re looking to maximize your memory capacity while saving a little bit of cash. However, if price is not a problem, then you can consider our 64GB at 2133MHz (F3-17000CL11Q2-64GBZLD).
If you are considering 32GB, then any of our 1866MHz would be a good choice. 2133MHz’s performance increase may not justify the price increase.
Please do feel free to contact us again if you have any further questions. Thank you for choosing G.Skill!
    Best Regards

    Dear Tech Support Team,
Thank you much for your very complete and helpful response!
I searched for the more affordable 64GB kit "our 64GB at 1600MHz (F3-12800CL10Q2-64GBZL) " but have not been able to find it.  New Egg shows it as being "Discontinued" and out of stock.  Is it going to be replaced by a new model kit of 64GB 1600 or 1866MHz ?
If not then I will go with the 32GB 1866MHz kit: F3-14900CL10Q-32GBZL
Thanks so much and all the best to you,
    Wylin Tjoelker
    Dear Wylin Tjoelker,
We asked around for you. It seems like all our F3-12800CL10Q2-64GBZL memory kits in stock have all been sold out, ordered by various retailers around the world, and would require some time to manufacture a fresh stock of the memory kits. At this time, we are unsure when Newegg would have a fresh stock for the F3-12800CL10Q2-64GBZL memory kit.
If you are pressed for time, then 1866Mhz 32GB memory kit would probably be the best for you right now. Otherwise, there will be a temporary delay for an unknown period of time for the 64GB 1600MHz memory kit.
We apologize for the inconvenience. Thank you for your understanding and support.
    Best Regards
    Tech Support Team, F.A.E
    Dear G.Skill Tech Support Team,
Thanks so much again for the complete and helpful information!
    You guys are Fantastic!
    All the best to you,
    Wylin
I also contacted Asus chat and asked the same questions.  They referred to their ram compatibility list that was released about the time they first started marketing their motherboard and that does not seem to have been updated to include current 32GB or 64GB kits.  They also recommended that I check the ram manufacturer's compatibility lists.  So they did not provide any info that I didn't already have.
An article on the Corsair website about memory compatability and whether one should fill just four of the motherboard's slots or fill all eight of them was also quite well written and very helpful:
    http://www.corsair.com/blog/corsair-memory-upgrade-resource-guide-2010/
One added benefit to the G.Skill Z series ram kits is that their heatsinks are short enough to fit underneath the very effective and quiet Noctua NH-D14 SE2011 cpu cooler.
    Hope the above info helps.
    All the best to you,
    Wylin Tjoelker

    Wylin,
Have a look at Planning & Building a New System where I use the 64 GB 2133 kit and take a look at the Benchmark Results pages as well.

  • AsRock X79 Extreme6 or ASUS P9X79 for 3930k?

    Hi all!
After reading some interesting discussions in this forum I have decided to buy the 3930k and I am looking for the mobo, I have found the AsRock X79 Extreme6 but it seems that nobody uses it with the 3930k, I have not found any tests, reviews or users giving feedback, instead it seems that most of the people prefers the ASUS P9X79 mobos. Which brand and model should I choose? I will use it for Photoshop CS6 Extended and Lighroom 4, no 3D, no gamin, no video editing. Also, I would like a mobo with 8 DIMM, I will start with 32GB RAM and during the 2013 I will buy 32 GB more.
    Thank you in advance,
    William GS

Several things when considering which model Asus...
    -are you going to overclock...
-do you need two network connections...
-which back panel connections (eSata, PS/2 keyboard, Firewire, etc) do you need...
-and which and how many keyboard card slots do you need?
If you are on a tight budget, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131855 should do everything you need, for $240
My personal choice would be Intel http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813121552 for $210... that $30 saving can go toward a BluRay writer

  • Asus M3N78-EM settings for hdmi to TV Alsa OR Oss

I have had no luck in getting sound to my lcd tv over hdmi.
I installed Arch and Alsa 1.020 two days ago.  I have tried various entries in .asoundrc or /etc/asound.conf with no success.
I installed oss today through pacman, but had no luck there either.  Xbmc couldn't initialize the card.
I have no preference for either Alsa or oss, just something that works.
If anyone has the settings for hdmi for either Alsa or Oss, I would be grateful to receive them.
Btw, other posts have mentioned ossxmix but I was unable to find that in pacman or aur.  Ossmix is not easy to configure.

Thanks Noel, I tried it, but nothing happens.
I don't know if what's displayed in NVIDIA's panel actually reflects the current  mode of operation, but according to that, NVIDIA ia always assigned to HDMI and Intel to LCD.  If HDMI is not connected, it looks as if NVIDIA does nothing.
I downloaded the latest beta driver from NVIDIA and will try it, but I don't have much hope.
BTW, the problem is not only with Photoshop. Topaz Labs plug-ins can also run as stand-alone (using 'tlfusionexpres', Photoshop not running) and the same crash happens there, when I use a brush.

  • NVidia Settings for Two Different Graphics Cards?

I just built a new system for video editing with Adobe CC 2014 including both the Quadro K4000 AND the GeForce GTX780 DirectCU II OC graphics cards. I was wondering what are the best settings in the NVidia control panel for apps such as Premiere Pro, After Effects, Speedgrade, Encore, etc. I see that there are global settings and app specific settings.
One question I have concerns the CUDA cores. Should I select one graphics card over the other or use the global (all) setting? How does that work? For CUDA, if I select Global, does the system decide automatically which card to use or does it combine the CUDA cores of both cards?? Seems like an important distinction.
Also, I have two monitors: ASUS PA279 (2560x1440) and a JVC PS-420W (1920x1080) How should these be connected to the computer for best performance and picture quality? Should I use DVI or HDMI connections?
And, of course, the Quadro K4200 just appeared on the market, which offers almost double the CUDA cores and 4 GB RAM instead of 3 GB on the K4000. Should I return the K4000 and replace with the K4200? price difference not much.
The rest of my system includes:
    Processor - Intel i7-4930k 6-core 3.4 GHz
    Motherboard - ASUS P9X79-E WS
    RAM - Corsair Dominator 2133 DDR3 64 GB
System drive - Intel SSD 530 Series 240 GB
    Storage - WD Black 16TB (4x4TB) RAID 0
UPDATE - I wrote to PNY because it's their Quadro K4000 card, and this was their reply to me:
    Hi Alex,
Thank you very much for using our NVIDIA Quadro by PNY professional graphics boards, and for contacting PNY Quadro Support.
Our NVIDIA Quadro K4000 is an excellent choice for supporting Adobe Creative Cloud 2014 for video editing.
Forgive me, but we do not recommend installing Quadro and GeForce graphics boards together in the same configuration.  That does not mean that you cannot do it, and honestly, in Windows 7, it may actually be OK to have both cards installed (each with its own driver), but we still do not recommend it, and do not support it.
Furthermore, I support Quadro products only, not GeForce products, so I do not have a lot more to say about the GeForce card, other than to say that GeForce cards are intended for use supporting games and home use, while Quadro graphics boards are intended for use in workstations, supporting professional applications such as Adobe Creative Cloud 2014.
I recommend installing the Quadro K4000 into the primary (top) PCIe x16 slot, and to install the latest ODE graphics driver for it:
    http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/77637/en-us
I recommend using the default settings in NVIDIA control panel.  The system will use the card in the primary slot. While Adobe CC applications are multi-GPU aware, and designed to automatically use the second GPU to improve performance, I feel more confident that you will see a benefit by using a second Quadro card in the secondary PCIe slot.  I do not know whether Adobe CC will use the GeForce GPU to boost performance, or not (as again, this is not supported or recommended).
For the Asus PA279, I recommend using a DisplayPort (DP) 1.2 cable (or perhaps a dual-link DVI cable) to connect it to the K4000.  I recommend using a single-link DVI cable (or perhaps a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, together with an HDMI cable) to connect the JVC PS-420W to the K4000.

What a stubborn machine! Whenever I set the CUDA setting to GTX780 and hit 'Apply' it would jump back to the Quadro. Even after changing the Global setting to the GTX780 and back to Premiere it would do that. After a few times, it finally changed to what I wanted. Now Premiere, AE and Speedgrade are set to GTX780 for CUDA. However, there is a graph that shows GPU Utilization and it shows the Quadro still doing the brunt of the work - about 50-60% compared to the GTX at 5-8%. I suppose that's a different setting I need to change?
I had both monitors connected to the Quadro. I just put the 2nd display on the GTX. Does it matter? And does it matter what connector type - HDMI, DVI, etc.?
I set the BIOS to Gen 3 for the slots that the GPUs are in. And enabled 'Above 4G Decoding'. That Quadro is a PCI E 2.0 card. I see a 'little bit' of performance improvement playing back 3 layers of video with effects Magic Bullet Looks and different blending modes. It does not like the Neat Video noise reducer and some of the other effects, though. Still pretty crippled. Maybe a hard drive issue? I've got a 4 x 4 TB RAID 0 WD Black series on the onboard controller. 64 GB RAM is plenty.

  • Hard Drive Controller Configuration - Asus P9X79 Pro

I am building a computer for use with CS 6 Premiere Pro.  I purchased an Asus P9X79 Pro motherboard.  I  have bought 4 drives.  I plan to use a 256gb Samsung 830 SSD for the boot drive loaded programs and the operating system; two 500gb Western digital Velociraptor drives in Raid 0 for scratch disk; and a Hitachi 2tb Ultrastar 7K3000 drive for everything else. My question involves my confusion over selection of which controllers to attach the drive to on the Asus motherobard.  The X79 chipset comes with 2 x SATA 6gbs and 4 x SATA 3gbs.  The motherboard also has a Marvell 2 x SATA 6gbs controller.  My initial thought was to hook the 2 WD drives to the 6gbs connector and create the RAID 0.  I would then connect the Samsung SSD and Hitachi 7K3000 to the Intel 3gbs connectors.  Am I doing this properly or should I be using the SSD on the 6gbs connector and the set up the RAID on the 3gbs controller?  I read somewhere that it was not a good idea to use the Marvell controller for the SSD.

Thanks for your response Harm.  The Marvel 9128 is described as a hardware raid host controller.  "It features a hardware RAID to offload CPU and AHCI interface for inboard driver support."
    http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/datasheets/Marvell-88SE91XX-Host-Controllers.pdf
My understanding is that people often buy the Pro motherboard of the Asus P9X79 because of the presence of the additional Marvell hardware RAID controller that is not present in some of the other P9X79 versions.  The Asus Drive Xpert tool appears to be a rebranded version of the Marvell based software suite used to manage the Marvell controller's RAID 0/1.
I agree with you that the better solution would be a dedicated RAID controller card.  What is the best affordable solution available for a RAID controller card given the limited number of hard drives that I want to populate the RAID 0 with?

  • Will the ASUS P9X79-E WS or P9X79 WS fit in ATX case?

    Hi
I have searched and googled for two days now and I have still not found an answer to this question.
I am planning an upgrade of my system to be a serious workstation and have recently bought hte Fractal Design XL Black Pearl Case that supports E-ATX. I love this case and would prefer not to buy a new one, so I´m trying to find out if the ASUS P9X79 WS (that Harm and others seems to reccomend as MOBO) or maybe the  ASUS P9X79-E WS 8the one with 7 PCI-Es - Wauv..) will fit in my case? Both MOBOs are SSI CEB, but Fractal Design tells me that it might fit in the case if the mounting holes are placed equal to the ATX based MOBOs? Some say that it fits most cases with support for E-ATX (my case supports E-ATX as well), but others say that it does not fit anything but a few cases that supports SSI CEB....
    Any clues?
    Thx in advance....

  • Another strange RAID 0 SSD query with Asus P9X79 Pro - RAID array appearing in AHCI mode

Hi all, I found this thread:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4874435
very helpful, as it describes a similar situation to my case (same motherboard).  Here is my situation:
historically, this was my setup (all on Asus P9X79 Pro motherboard):
2 x 120Gb Intel 320 SSDs.  Operating system on one of them, Lightroom catalogue and photoshop scratch disk on the other.
1 x 2TB WD SATA 3 HDD.  All images and other data etc
    1 x blu-ray DVD burner
As I am now needing video editing, I have just bought Premiere Pro.  My OS SSD was also getting quite full.  So, I took the plunge and bought a Samsung 830series 256GB SSD.
    My plan was this:
    (a) make the Samsung the new OS drive, so lots of spare space for the SSD to play with (plugged into one of the 6 GB/s ports)
    (b) make a RAID 0 of the two Intel SSDs (i.e. 240GB volume) to act as Lightroom catalogue, PS scratch disk and Premiere Pro media cache, previews etc etc. This would be on 2 of the 3GB/s ports
    (c) keep the 2TB WD HDD for data. (plugged into the other 6 GB/s port)
    (d) plug the Blu-Ray drive into another of the 3 GB/s ports
However, I was having a nightmare reinstalling the OS from scratch, so I ended up using Norton Ghost to port the OS across from the Intel SSD to the Samsung SSD.  I didn't have a lot of faith that it would work, but it did.... eventually.  I have checked SSD alignment and it is correct, and I benchmarked the Samsung and it is flying - it is running to reported values according to AS Benchmark.  So, I think that one is working fine - great stuff.
However, this left me with the two Intel 120GB SSDs to try to make into a RAID 0.  Apart from the fact that my OS was already installed (and so no F6 driver install), I followed the instructions/suggestions of frogo369 in the forum thread I linked to above.  I changed the SATA mode to RAID in the UEFI and then defined the RAID in the CTRL+I  Intel RST option ROM utility.  I then rebooted the PC.... oh dear.....
The PC started and got as far as the swirling Welcome to Windows sign (i.e. before log on appears), but then came the Blue Screen Of Death - and it gets into a never-ending reboot cycle.  :-(
So, I figured that this was because I had changed my SATA mode in the UEFI from AHCI to RAID, but the OS was obviously from a time when I was only on AHCI.  Therefore, I changed the SATA mode back to AHCI in UEFI.  thankfully, the computer now boots successfully once more into Windows.
    BUT, HERE'S THE BIT I DON'T UNDERSTAND..........
Weirdly (for me at least!), when I look at the list of disks in Disk Management, I could see the RAID.  It was "unallocated", so I formatted it.  It formatted fine.  I then opened the Intel SSD toolbox, and it can see the RAID 0 (it even defines it as such).  The only thing it won't let me do is really "interact" with it as it says I need Intel RST drivers of 11.0 or newer.  But I don't think they are available for the X79 chipset - so no TRIM I think??  I've just benchmarked the RAID and it is doing good numbers - >500Mb/s read and 400Mb/s write if I remember correctly.
But anyway, my question really is two-fold:
(a)Firstly - how can I see this RAID/how is it working, if my BIOS is set to AHCI mode not RAID??
(b)am I likely to see a rapid detioration in the speed of the RAID, given that presumably TRIM won't be working on it?
Sorry for such a long explanation - and no doubt I've missed out huge bits of info you need anyway!  But, any help, advice or direction would be very, very, gratefully received!
    Tim

OK, an update to my post - I have now found Intel RST drivers for the X79 chipset - they are here, for the benefit of anyone in the future coming across this page:
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=21852&keyword=%22Intel+Rapi d+Storage+Technology%22&lang=eng
These have enabled me communicate with the RAID 0 array via the Intel SSD Toolbox.  I have also confirmed that TRIM is activated on it.
However, this still hasn't answered my original question - i.e. how can I be using these two SSDs in RAID mode if RAID is not enabled in the UEFI?  Don't get me wrong - I'm delighted(!!) - but any expertise as to how this is happening would be much appreciated!

  • Correct settings for HDV capture

Hi. I'm using Premiere CS5.5. I went on a few forums to get the correct settings for HDV capture.
I can record the footage fine. However I saw a few things which didn't seem right.
After capturing the HDV footage, the file was a .mpeg file. Secondly, the clip was 1 hour and 10 minutes and
it was only 11.3 GB. Does this sound right? A 55 minute .avi file is 11.6GB. I thought a HDV clip would be quite a large size file.
If this dosen't sound right, is there somewhere I could go to, to check that my settings are correct? By the way I'm filming and capturing with a Canon XHA1.
The footage is 1080i. HDV. I've exported it and it looks fine. Just want to make sure I've captured it correctly and to the best quality.
    Thanks for your help.

The HDV format was advanced by Sony and others to use the same miniDV tapes used for SD.  In fact, your Canon XHAI can record and play either without changing the tape transport speed.
Your observation in relative file sizes is due to the fact that HDV is highly compressed (MPEG), whereas, SD (AVI) is not as highly compressed.  This is one of the reasons folks (such as Harm) don't consider HDV to be an edit format, but just a delivery format.
Note that what Harm was saying is symantics--you capture an analog source through a capture card that digitizes it.  When you transfer a image file from HDV or SD, it is already digitized, so a bit-to-bit transfer occurs.

  • Best settings for 4k video in Premiere Pro CS6

I am trying to nail this down. I have an (Asus G20AJ Series) ASUS i7 3.6 Ghz with 16GB RAM 64 bit. I now have a drone that uses 4k video. I am pretty sure I have the rendering down but I wanted to ask if you guys can suggest options for all the best settings for setup, playback and export of the video. My drone does video of 4096x2160 @23 fps. When I went to render the 6 minute file, wow, it was going to take more than 4 hours! Is this right? Any info you can suggest would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you!

4 hours sounds about right for this source material on such a system. Better hardware may be needed to reduce the exporting time or you have to convert the source material to a less demanding format.

  • RAM compatible with 3930K and ASUS P9X79 PRO + more

    Hello all-knowledgeable computer friends,
I am taking the plunge and am about to purchase these parts via newegg for ~$2000 to complete my DIY Premiere Pro 6/AE video editing computer for DSLR footage. I would love any feedback possible. What do you love/what do you hate? What should I change?
    Some questions:
-Can anyone double-check my RAM, motherboard, & CPU compatibility?
-Should I invest in a cooling fan?
-Will 750w be enough for PSU?
-Which RAM should I go with, 1600 or 1866 with the 3930k? Ripjaws a good selection?
    [MOBO]
ASUS P9X79 PRO LGA 2011 Intel X79 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with USB BIOS
    [RAM]
I can’t decide between the 1600 and 1866? Will one be more compatible with my CPU?  Intel’s website lists the 3930k compatible with 1600 only I think? Anyone know? G. Skill seems like a good option for my configuration (unless anyone thinks otherwise please let me know).

    Thanks for your help!

Hi folks I have a similar question. I already have purchased most of the components for my new build, including the following:
    Gigabyte GA-X79-UD5 2011, X79, EATX, 8x DDR3, PCI, 5x PCI-e, Crossfire, SLi, 4x SATA-300, 6x SATA-600, 0, 1, 5, 10, 1Gbps, 2x eSATA, FW, 7x USB 2.0, 2x USB 3.0, PS/2, 7.1,
    Cooler Master HAF X
    Intel Core i7 3930K Boxed Socket 2011 cpu 3,2GHz
    Noctua NH-D14 Special Edition (LGA 2011) 140mm
Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold 1000W 80-plus-gold
    2x Intel 520 120GB 120GB SSD (OEM) SATA-600
    Zotac GeForce GTX 580 AMP2 815MHz 3GB GDDR5
The last component which I still haven't figured out is the RAM.
As I understand, the 3930k works (best) with 1,35v ram. My question is, will this 1,35v ram work on the Gigabyte mobo, which supports 1,5v memory? Or do I have to adjust something in the Bios in order to make the ram work properly? Or do I have a major problem here?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Any other suggestions on this build are welcome!

  • Fan settings for imac

What are the appropriate fan settings for a 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor?

Why are you messing with the fan settings? The system will take care of those things for you. By playing around with low level system settings you can end up doing more harm than good. Are you having a specific problem with your fans? You might first want to check your temps to determine which fans(s) are acting up. Some fan issues can be corrected by resetting the SMC.
    To reset the SMC
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.

    Hello All...
Back after a brief absence, things look a little bit different.
I'm trying to take a 16 minute mini dv video and compress it for use on the web. I'm interested in any suggestions you may have on settings for the video and audio tracks. I've tried using Sorenson 3 (15 frames, key frames set to automatic, 320 x 240) for video and IMA 4:1 (mono) for audio. The resulting video looked great but the file size came in at about 255 Mb.
    Thanks!

Thank you for the replies.  Everyone was correct about the jack, interface, and phasing problems.  I have been unplugging my motu audio interface and then using headphones at work.  I have not changed any detailed audio output settings in logic.  When I read that the jack might be a problem I tried switching headphones.  This actually helped.  I am using dre-beats headphones and they seem to be having issues with the mac/jack-(the phasing/panning problems.  I can use these headphones with other devices but not the mac.  I have to use ipod ear buds and the phasing seems fixed.  Hopefully this information is helpful to someone else.
If anyone knows how to correct this issue please let me know its difficult to know what my final mixes are going to sound like and I have had to keep bouncing everything into i-tunes- sync to ipod and then listen in my car radio.
