Update2: There is something very wrong with wireless on mountain lion recovery. I don't know what the problem is, but this link may explain:

Wireless recovery would start out with over 25 hours estimated and kept on failing. It turns out to be a two step process of downloading a few Mbytes then a 4Gbyte .dmg file, but I couldn't even download the Mbyte file. I bought the thunderbolt to gigabit ethernet adapter, plugged it in, restarted recovery and download of a little more than 4Gbytes took less than an hour. My limiting factor was probably comcast home internet rate of 12Mbps. The wi-fi wireless connection should be able to do over 100Mbps, so wireless shouldn't be much slower than wired, except wi-fi wireless is broken. Now that ML is installed and updated, wi-fi seems fine now, as I am using it right now, but I haven't tried downloading a big file yet.
Don't use wi-fi wireless for Mountain Lion recovery.

Why can't I connect to a wi fi, my phone has a 1 and another has a 3 in the same position.

Consider rebooting the router, too.
Try a newer router, if you can.

Battery has dents, will that affect my macbook in the future?

I just noticed my macbook has dents, i purchased the mac secondhand and didn't take the time to check the battery. Well now I did and i notice like little dents here and there, I am thinking of getting a new battery because it feels like it warms up the macbook a little too warm. What are the negatives of this if anyone knows? Thanks

Hi,
Dents in the battery pack are potentially a sign the battery pack has suffered very rough handling. It could be possible that components inside the battery cells might have been loosened and will move to cause short circuit.
There are safety mechanisms in the cells to try to avert a hazardous situation resulting from a short circuit inside the cell. The energy density in the cells is very high, and the worst case scenario is the energy release by a short circuit could generate enough heat to start a fire. I have a friend who flies remote control model planes, and just yesterday he was telling me about a Li-Po battery pack that burst into flames shortly after a model plane made a rough landing. The battery pack does in fact become a little warm while charging or running the computer. None the less, it would probably be best to have your battery pack examined by a knowledgeable technician. Better off safe than sorry when is comes to a damaged battery: discontinue its use, if possible.

Its also been called Apple Security Center and a few other names I can't remember. My understanding is that if you didn't install it you should be safe. There is more information about viruses and malware at http://www.reedcorner.net/.
Also if you are using Safari as your browser make sure that you go to Preferences - General - and at the bottom of that box uncheck the selection that allows Safari to open safe files automatically.
With Firefox you would be asked. I don't know about other browsers. More experienced users would have that information.

Have just upgraded to LR 3. keep getting 'sidecar file has conflict' does this affect my using LR3 ?

Lightroom support suggests that I continue and ignore the icon on the image until it becomes a problem. Will the conflict message have any effect on my using any LR programme. Can I easily get rid of the message. It is scatterred on many images with no obvious pattern of selection

I recently moved a lot of image-files to a different drive; the move was done by my OS (Win XP). I just checked, and xmp-files are there.
I haven't worked with any of these images since the move (they are copies that are not imported into LR), so the xmp-files are not re-created new.

Has anyone ever gotten a false positive successfully resolved?

I have legitimate emails sent from my banking institution that iCloud refuses to deliver to my inbox. They're not in the Junk folder either so they're being blocked from the server side. As a test I tried using Gmail instead and I receive the emails just fine.
I have tried contacting Apple Support regarding this via iPhone support, MacBook support and MobileMe support all to no avail. I either get the run around or referred right back to Express Lane where I start the process all over again. Is whitelisting a single email address really that difficult?
ONE EMAIL. That's all I want to get through.
Don't give me a reason to flip off iCloud and use Google for all my needs Apple. Even if they do categorize and collect data on every aspect of my life down to my underwear.
Anyway, I remember someone saying they contacted Apple to successfully resolve a legitimate email to get through but don't know what they did or who they got in touch with. Any help appreciated.

I am trying to find a performance meter widget that responds positively or negatively based on user selections in an interactive, decision-making learning game.

See the proposed image of what I'm looking for in the bottom left of this concept draft. Based on how the participant selects to answer, this meter would go up or down, recording their performance throughout the module. I know it's possible in ZebraZapps. I would think there would be a way in Captivate. Fingers crossed!

Logic X Staff Styles for drum kit: can't position?

I'm new to Logic but l I believe I'm doing this right and have hit a bug. By default, the snare drum is mapped to what would be a "b" in treble clef. I'd like this to be mapped to a "c". To change this, I open Staff Styles and edit the mapped style for drums. The snare group is at position "-4" by default, which I believe means it is four steps down from the the top staff line. I want to change this to -3 to move it up to a "c". I can change the value by clicking and dragging the -4, but when I do this, instead of the note moving up, it snaps to the top (position 0) and stays there. If I close this window and re-open it, sure enough, logic has assigned a zero to the position. No change seems to affect it, and if I save a project like this the snare group is forever at position zero, basically ruining the project.
Has anyone experienced this? Am I doing something wrong or is this just a bug? If it's a bug, does anyone know a work-around?

Confirmed bug in LPX 10.0.7 ( works as expected in 10.0.6)
There is a *very* clunky workaround:
Create a new Mapped Instrument object in the MIDI Environment and cable it up to the required software Instrument channel object.
Drag the Mapped interment object from the Environment and drop it on the required track in the Track area track list ( to route the track via the new mapped instrument object)
Edit the snare entries in the mapped instrument object: up 0.5 transposition)
This change is not immediately updated in the Score; you have to change the staff style to any other one then re-apply the #drums style.

Edit Disable Panel Grid Alignment does not affect the Positioning of Front Panel Labels

In LabVIEW 2010, when I choose Edit>> Disable Panel Grid Alignment the positioning of Front Panel objects gets much finer so that I can make small adjustments. Put it does not seem to affect the positioning of front panel object labels. These object labels still move in very coarse increments and do not allow me to position them carefully.

The positioning of labels you encounter has not so much to do with any grid, but with the fact that for labels, LabVIEW attempts to snap them to one of the control corners if you get close enough to the owning control. Outside of a certain range of the owning control you should be able to place them easily on any pixel. The snap behaviour of owned objects is not configured through the panel grid option. I'm not aware of an option to disable this behaviour, but usually find it rather handy instead of annoying. If it happens to not be exactly as desired, I adjust with the label selected and using the cursor keys.

Position Holder relationship Time Constraint

I have received a unique requirement from my client. They want only one employee to hold one position and on position only to be held by one employee. This in itself is the easy part.
However, for contingent workers (non-employees) that want to be able to tie multiple people to one position.
Has anyone ever done this? If so, how?
Any additional information that anyone can provide would be much appreciated!

Hi - You stated the following - see my notes in Bold:
You can either turn off the '100%' check for all Positions or make it a Warning or Information instead of an Error. This affects all Positions. - Not an option as this should throw an error for employees.
Personnel Management > Organizational Management > Basic Settings > Relationship Maintenance > Maintain Relationships
Click on Holder (008) > click on 'Relationship Characteristics' > W - Warning or I - Information
You can also Change the time constraint for the Position to Person A008 part of the relationship. Also, not an option as we want employee positions to error - only for non-employee positions should this be allowed.
Personnel Management > Organizational Management > Basic Settings > Relationship Maintenance > Maintain Relationships
Click on Holder (008) > click on 'Time constraints' > Click on 'A008' > Choose '3'
You can also, set the 'Staffing' Percentage' on the Relationship Infotype - A008 - holder to a blank.

Positions on stage become changed when the file opens

I'm making a Flash animation in Flash CS4, using motion tweens to change positions and sizes of objects on stage. I frequently open the animation file and find a motion-tweened object has been moved to a new position from the one it was in when I last saved the file. All the frames in the tween seem to be affected. If I open the file again without saving, the object is still in the wrong position. I have had to redo or substantially correct a big tween several times. It's wasting time, and I can't rely on my work being in the state that I saved it last. I think the problem happens to the files when I open them after starting up Flash.
Does anybody have any idea what could be happening, and how to stop it?

Sorry, forgot details: I'm using Flash on Window XP Home ed. My version is Flash CS4 version 10.0.2.

Project language and window position

Hi everyone,
I have defined the project language as English.
The Portal is set to English language also.
When I display a dialog box or window using the CENTER attribut, everything works fine.
Now, if I et my Portal to hebrew language, all those dialog boxes and windows are displayed at random places on the screen.
Does the project language has something to do with the position of windows and DB ?

Yes, language settings may affect layout.
There are LTR (left-to-right) writing languages (English, Russian) and RTL (right-to-left) writing languages (Hebrew, Arabic)
WD explicitly supports RTL languages (sure, along with LTR), so it tries to apply RTL logic not only to text but also to layout and flow of controls. This causes the behavior you observing.
However, in my uderstanding CENTER means the very same place in either RTL or LTR, so this is probably a bug in RTL support code...

Export problem "A serious error has occured", or hang, upon export to Encore.

I am using adobe Premiere CS3 3.2
I am trying to export my project to a DVD. I've been told that the best way to do this with minimizing quality loss is to export to Encore.
My project has some filters that affect system memory and have locked up the computer numerous times before, like Looks Suite and Noise Remover (on some clips)
when I choose export to Encore, then choose settings, I get the error "A Serious Error has occured...." Then I trried lowering the settings, and I got the window that says "Rendering", at least, but nothing appeared in that window after I left it overnight.
So I have some questions:
- What's the best thing I can do to export my movie onto a DVD with minimum loss of quality?
- Should I export as a video file first? Which is the best quality? Then can I export to Encore?
- Does it help to pre-render my entire project in Premiere first, THEN export to Encore?
I'd appreciate some advice.

EDIT: I just tried to export as a Quicktime Uncompressed video with the regular method (Export-> Movie).. and it gave me the error "Could not compile movie..." then the message "adobe premiere pro is running very low on system memory"
So I am assuming this is a memory issue? Then what should I do??
Also, I want to ask- If I put my entire project with all its files onto an external hard drive, then move them to another computer with adobe premiere pro installed which also has the same filters installed, would I be able to export this way?

I am quite sure it is a memory problem... the computer exported other videos in the past just fine, but its never been used for making a film with a lot of filters and such that run down the memory, and so it gives me the memory errors.
I am not sure what is "Memtest86+"... I would like to try such a program, but in fact this is not my computer... I am using a Workstation at a University and now I have limited time to complete my project (I must figure out a solution by the end of the day on Monday)
Maybe AVI is the best for some... but I have done comparisons beforehand which found .mov to be the best... and I was even told that uncompressed quicktime doesn't lose quality at all (though in fact it seems to just a bit). So if you not completely sure which will be better, I will go with .mov.
So I will try a few things- like exporting only the "special" clips which used a lot of filters on individually as .mov, then reimporting them into the project, then trying to export the whole thing into encore... If that does not work, I will try to export fragments as.mov (because if I try to export too much at one time, it has the memory error->crash).. then create a new project, import the .mov files, and export to Encore.
I only have limited time to solve this problem.. do you all think I am taking the right steps?
Also one key question I have is about the audio.. do you recommend that I export all of the audio into one wav file, and then put that into the new project? Or should I just export the quicktime files, with their audio, into the project and keep it like that?

It will not charge properly, it has to be in a exact position to charge and even then go's off and on. I thought this my be my charger but the charger works fine on another phone. it will not allow texts to come through properly and sometimes will not not let me ring people it just freezes and i have to turn it off and on a couple of times in order for it to work. it will not let me update apps and the silent button is not silent it still go's of on ringer.The keyboard will freeze up not allowing me to type anything. It wants me to pay £126.44 for it to be repaire when i have nothing to do with why its not working!
