I have no power or no red light, has anyone else had this problem?

I have noted in several posts as have a few of the others here,, Bob Timmons being one who has tested it, that the new one was no better than the old ones. I bought a new AEBS 5th Gen to test against all my old TC's up to Gen 3.. IMHO they are all about the same.. and my old Thomson G wireless router beats them handsomely at the other end of the house. ie the range is to be frank, pathetic. I don't have a Mac laptop to test with.. so just concluded it needs the exact match to get results like anandtech article..
    I would do the following.
    1. Download and use 5.6 utility.. you are lucky you are still on Lion as ML no longer can use v5 utility.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
    2. Set wireless names to short, no spaces, pure alphanumeric. Set a different name to 5ghz. Its range is always short.. so don't expect too much. Make sure the output is set to 100%.. and the region is correct.
    3. Lock the wireless channel for 2.4ghz.. test the available channels.. in Nepal I have no idea what is allowed.. but 1, 6, 11 are the main non-overlapping channels for most of the world. Power output maybe different though and the TP-Link might be set to higher output country.. apple do not allow that. Check what country the tp-link is set to.
    4. The location of the TC must be as good as possible.. The antennas are around the 3 sides but the most important is in front.. try to place the TC so the laptop is facing the front of the TC, with nothing in between.
I am pretty sure you are never going to get the output any higher than it is now.. I still use the old wireless G Thomson signal in the other end of the house. And even running 3 TC at once (when I am repairing power supplies.. makes no difference.. they are all invisible).
Either return the TC as unsuitable.. or simply use it as a backup.
The TP-Link can be used in wan bypass to provide wireless.. just turn off the TC wireless.

  • Time Capsule - Is it just me or has any one else had this problem? Please help!!

    Hi,
    Greetings from Nepal!
I moved to the mac (early 2011 MBP 15" with Lion) last november after being an avid pc user for a long time. Happy with the mac, i bought the 4th gen 2TB time capsule a fortnight ago - retiring my old TP link N router in the process. Now, what i have is a problem that hasn't been addressed anywhere in the forum or anywhere in the web (atleast from what i can find).
Given that all reviews talk about the exceptional wifi range of the latest AE/TC, i have been facing problems with a very weak range. Compared to my old $60 TP link N router, i used to get an average range of 99 to a 100% (in the same room where the router is placed) - now i am getting about 80% with the newTC. Worse is the bedroom, about 15 feet away (same floor) from the said room - which  used to get about 80% range with the older router, now only gets about 40% with the new TC. The funny part is that even my  neigbour (who's using a "Tenda" G router)  projects better signal in my room than my TC. The same story continues to the ground floor (router is placed on the first floor) where the range was above 50%  has now  gone down to about 25% with my neogbours router again casting a better signal. Even when i place my mac next to the TC - i only get a maximum range of 95%.  Another problem is that an I-Phone 4S, I-Phone 3GS and two HP latops also connect to this network intermittently with very bad connections and range (last router was a lot better)
I use the "wifi explorer" & "signal" apps downloaded from the app store to measure the data and have tried everything recommended from resetting the TC to factory settings, down grading the firmware & Airport utility (5.6) to upgrading them back again (7.6.1), playing with the wireless settings but without success.
I had read that the 4th gen TC worked very well with early 2011 MBP (Anandtech) and hence bought this as a major upgrade - up from my old  60 dollar TP link router. The irony - we don't have a support centre here in Nepal and will probably have to send this to India if its a malfunction. Now my question - is this a problem with the antenna? or was the old TC's range so bad that people are now singing praises about the new TC? or can i fix this with some tweaks and tips?
    Thanks a lot in advance!!
BTW - I've not even started using the Back up function as of yet due to the above problem!!!

  • Has anyone else had this problem with the iphone 4 dock and bumper?

I purchased an iphone 4 dock and bumper but when ever I sit the iphone in the dock with the bumper on it won't get a sufficient enough connection to charge so I have to take the bumper off in order for it to charge.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Yes I am not impressed with that either. How can apple design such an accessory and then not have it compatable with another accessory of theirs!?
The same goes for the in-car charger also. It's a good job the iphone 4 is so good, otherwise it would have been a return to Blackberry for me!

  • Has any one else had this problem? Occasional freezing

I think I have a first generation Ipod. I had to put a firewire port on my PC because the USB ones hadn't come out yet, which I think is better than USB2 imho. My problem is this; Once in a while my Ipod will freeze. The little arrow while show that it's playing but the counters don't change. It won't respond to the two button reset trick and I have fiddled with the hold button and hold doesn't show in the display. It also gets very hot! Once the battery dies and I recharge the battery it's fine again. This used to happen when I downloaded a bad file (long since deleted) from a questionable source, but now it happens with podcasts from ITunes. I tried a complete restore but it still happens every once in a while.
    n/a   Windows XP Pro

I just think something this expensive should last longer. I think it is interesting that when it happens the unit gets really hot. Once the battery dies it's fine and it dies pretty fast. The particular podcast that caused the malfuntion played perfectly. I listen to it twice a day 2 hours at a time. This happens about once a week. I'm glad I have a shuffle for a spare. Thanks for responding.

  • Has anyone else had a problem with the audio not keeping up with the video when switching to full screen on YouTube?

Hi. I have a OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.1 Mac Book Air, Processor 1.86 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.
Has anyone else had a problem with the audio not keeping up with the video when switching to full screen on YouTube?
The video starts out fine, but if I click on the expand icon in the lower right corner of the screen the audio won't keep up.
Refreshing the page don't help at all. In fact, nothing seems to help once it starts.
I did not have this problem at all using Mavericks. The problem started after installing Yosemite.
    Any way to fix it?

only $99, i thought it was closer to $175.

  • HT4623 My camera just recently went blurry. It was working just fine yesterday but then I went to use it today and the pictures are so fuzzy. Has anyone else had this problem with their iPhone 5?

My camera just recently went blurry. It was working just fine yesterday but then I went to use it today and the pictures are so fuzzy. Has anyone else had this problem with their iPhone 5?

1st... make sure nothing's covering/smudging the camera lens.  then...
    Standard troubleshooting...
Try a reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
Remove the Camera app from Recently Used list...
    - From any Home Screen, double tap the home button to bring up the Recents List
    - Tap and hold any icon in this list until they wiggle
    - Press the red to delete the Camera app from this list.
    - Press the home button twice when done.
    - Restart the Camera app
If still a problem restore with your backup.
If still a problem restore as new, i.e. without your backup. See how it runs with nothing synced to it.
If still a problem, it's likely a hardware issue.

  • Is anyone else having a problem with the iPhone 4s Battery Life?  My 1 year old Iphone 4, which I gave to my wife, is holding a charge better and she has been using it far more than I've been using my 4s

My wife preordered a white iPhone 4s for our anniversary and even though it is preloaded with the ios 5, i am a little disappointed.  The battery doesn't seem to hold a charge well at all. I have had every other iphone except the 3gs and have never had such a poor battery life.  I owned the iPhone 4 for a year, and already know all the tricks to hold on to battery life, I have adopted the habit of closing out any apps that weren't being used, my mail push notifications are set for hourly, wifi and bluetooth are turned off when they aren't needed.  I also stay away from any car chargers, use only the apple brand supplied cables, and only charge when the phone is dead.  I only would sync when the phone was about to die as well.
When I saw how fast I was burning through the battery, I turned off Siri, which is kind of the purpose of the new iPhone, and turned off the backing up to iCloud.  I barely used my phone today and the battery kept ticking down.  My wife, who has been stuck with an iPhone 3g for years, has been fascinated with my old iPhone 4 and has been browsing and playing games and her battery has been holding a better charge than my new phone.  I even tried turning the phone off for an hour when it was at 18% and when I turned it back on, it was at 15%. My iPhone 2, which is only being used as a touch iPod now, still has better standby time than a brand new iPhone 4s.
To be honest, I am usually a heavy phone user.  Throughout the day I will make and receive at least 50 calls, I browse and check websites daily and watch videos sometimes during my downtime.  But this weekend, I haven't even had the chance to put this phone through the same abuse my other 3 iPhones have had to endure.
I just want to know if anyone else has this problem, or if I should just return this one.

I had major issues with the iPhone 4s battery, however it’s resolved.
The tech who set the phone up at the Apple store did so with little training.
if you have a mobile me account. First go and move all your data to the cloud by going on your computer and logging in at me.com/move. The cloud has replaced mobile me, so there is no need for those two accounts
Also make sure that for any of your email accounts you set them up to fetch, not push. My tech person set them all to have the email servers push data to the phone. The new iphone4s antenna is extremely strong so it will continually try to access stuff that is pushed–***** a lot of battery life doing this. It makes it worse if you have exchange 2010 accounts. Something about changes made to exchange really suck battery life from devices that access such accounts.
turning of locator and the push notifications from facebook--they have a lot!

  • Any one else have these problems with Mavericks 10.9.3?

I've observed the following wiith Mavericks:
If the system has multiple user accounts on it, it will start, erratically it seems, running background processes with those user IDs. With com.apple.IconServicesAgent eating up sometimes nearly 300MB of memory, this can get to be a memory wart hog.
It appears to be using about 20% more memory.
The fans are coming on a lot more, indicating the CPU is being taxed.
Erratically and inconsistently "losing" external drives on sleep.
High levels of memory compression when there was none before.
I reported on item #1 last night with this link:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/25807061#25807061
I monitor system activity with a tool named Performance Probe which shows the memory usage the old way (pie chart) and then bring up Activity Monitor to get the deteails. After rebooting one time, Performance Probe showed nearly 3GB out of 4GB of memory in active use right after booting, this used to report less than 2 GB. The exact same thing happened as in the link above, but in this case every single user account on the system had an instance of cfprefsd, launchd, distnoted, and com.apple.IconServicesAgent with IconServicesAgent being the "Grandaddy" of memory consumption. I used Activtiy monitor to kill all the launchd processes in the unused (not logged into) accounts followed by the rest and they never restarted.
Observation: For some reason the OS seems to erratically decide to launch or not launch all these other user accounts. Sometimes  Activity Monitor will just show me and the normal system accounts on the sytem, other times it appears to be more or less a crap shoot as to what processes have been started under what users name.
For item 2, normally 10.9.2 was showing about 2.1G of RAM in use now it's running about 2.4-2.5GB. All that I typically have running is Safari and Mail and thats when I noticed this increase.
Item 3 is just an observation, but it tells me the CPU is doing a lot more work to do the same things it did before.
For item 4, I'd heard of this before but I'd never seen it, until now. If external drives are connected to the system and the system goes to sleep, when you wake it up the OS will say the drive and it's volumes were incorrectly ejected. This happens erratically on USB drives. To simulate it I set the sleep interval at 3 minutes and let it go to sleep several times. Sometimes the drives would be there, sometimes I'd get the unmounted message. I should also note that the first time I rebooted Mavericks after the update it didn't see my Firewire external drive but has since then.
I noticed item 5 after using Safari and Mail for a while. The system more or less came to a crawl, fans came on high speed, Perfomance Probe was showing about 3GB of RAM used (RED) with the other 1GB completely blue, which means it's not active but swappable. This was weird because I'd never seen the system "pegged" like this. Usually there's free memory showing up. I opened up Activity Monitor to get the details and it showed that about 1GB of RAM was compressed. This has never happened before. The only things in use were Mail and Safari, and I'd guess I was probably using Safari to go to weather.com.
I have never had or witnessed any of these problems before.

    An update:
For item 1, I suspect that when the other accounts were used, the users left them in the modes to reopen applications etc when restarting. This is a laptop and it's shared in the field by several people. By getting everyone to log into the accounts and turn that feature off, it limited the number of automatic processes that would restart. By opening up Activity Monitor, and first killing launchd for each of these unused accounts, then the rest of the processes, it seems to have cleared that problem up. This system has been through several OS upgrades so it's quite possible some people may not have used this thing since Lion or Mountain Lion were on it. I am, of course, talking about killing launchd associated with people not using the system, not an active version of it.
As far as items 2, 3, and 5 go, any time Safari needs to run some video this problem seems to surface. It doesn't seem to happen with other browsers.
