Has anybody encountered problems attaching files to gmail when run in firefox

Trying to attach a file (I tried pdf, word, excel files) to a gmail when running in Firefox ended with an "Unable to attach file" statement. However, in IEX and Safari the same works properly.
Anybody an idea about this problem?

Hi,
Please check if this happens in a [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Managing-profiles new profile]. • Problems attaching files in gmail in Safari

I use Safari v 3.1.2 and have had consistent trouble attaching files to email messages in Gmail. I turned off rich text formatting and now compose in plain text, but that hasn't solved the problem. Sometimes a workaround is to attach the file before typing anything in a clean email message, but this isn't a guaranteed fix. If I reply to all or try to attach after composing something, Gmail hangs on "still working..." I have absolutely no problems attaching files in Firefox. Others I know who use Safari and Gmail complain about the same problem. I don't know whether this is Apple's or Google's wrongdoing but the problem is extremely annoying and I'm wondering if anyone has a fix. Thank you very much.

Hi Michael,
One quick test you can do to help narrow down things is to try and download something in another user account. This will help us to know whether your problem is local to your account or system wide. If you don't have another account you can use System Preferences -> Accounts -> [+] to create a test one (and [-] to remove it if needed)
Does the page appear to refresh itself when you click on a link? If it does you might have an incompatible version of SpeedDownload installed.

• Can't attach files in Gmail

I am having a major problem with trying to attach files in Gmail in both Firefox and Safari. Has only started happening today. Has been ok before this. Everytime I click on the atachment link and it brings up the Finder file with files to choose from, it then just crashes and I can't even choose anything or get out of the Finder and Files. Have to click Force Quit. Not sure what is going on. I don't know if this is a Mac problem or I should be in Google support.
Thanks

I have done a Virus Screen and got rid of 3 phising files
You didn't mention what you used to scan for malware, but phishing files are often e-mails which should not be deleted using the Finder or any A-V software as it will almost certainly corrupt the mailbox index and could cause mail issues going forward.
Your problem isn't being caused by malware and as long as you are keeping your Lion OS X fully up-to-date and do not disable it's malware protection, there is no currently known malware that can impact your Mac.
also did a malware screen and got rid of something called 'Genieo' All now in Trash.
Did you use TheSafeMac's Adware Removal Tool to get rid of Genieo? If not, then there are likely additional adware files installed which could easily be causing browser crashes.

• I cannot attach files in Gmail within Firefox. I can attach files in Gmail from Chrome and IE.

I know it has been mentioned elsewhere too ( https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/999383 ), but I cannot reply to that message... so, here it is again, with full details of the testing we have performed so far....
ALL users or our organization are currently affected.
When you try to attached a doc, xls, pdf, etc. in Gmail the results are all the same in Firefox. You get a red bar with "attachment failed" and an option to cancel or retry.
We have tested with our Proxy On and Off. We have tested with no extensions loaded (I get the message with my 3 extensions on or off -- Adblock+, Ghostery, HTTPS Everywhere). Versions on which the issue has been seen include 25, 26, 28, 28.0.1 and 29.0.1 (the latest as of this post). Most users in our organization do not use extensions with Firefox.
Attachments link up just fine in IE 10 and 11, and Chrome (with Adblock, Ghostery, and HTTPS Everywhere turned on). This error is only seen in Firefox, with or without plug-ins.
Operating Systems used for testing were Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.
The issue was first reported to us today, 5/13/14, but it is unknown if the issue has been around longer. However, Firefox is our organization's default browser due to countless web software vendor recommendations. We most likely would have heard before today if the issue has happened previously.
Any tips or suggestions would be welcome here.

Without trying any of the fixes, the issue seems to have gone away on its own. All users (of about 7 reporting in) can attach files within Gmail using Firefox as of 5/15. We did not try any of the 4 fixes listed above. On 5/13 and 5/14, users could not attach files to Gmail messages within Firefox.
However, on the day of the issue we did try all the mentioned fixes (except #4). All affected users had all history and cache wiped, updated to v29.0.1, and the latest Flash plug-in from Adobe.com. We have the browsers set to clear all history, temp files, cookies, etc. at exit to avoid any cached data issues. We tried with proxy on and off too. Attachments were in the 20K-35K range, so very small. They failed on 5/13 and 5/14 within Firefox, but attached fine in IE and Chrome on the same days.
So, not sure what the issue was, what caused, or why it went away... but we cannot reproduce today, as of 5/15.
Thanks for the tips. I'll bookmark them if the issue reappears.

• Suddenly I am unable to attach files in yahoo email while using firefox, but when I use IE, there is no problem in attaching files. The problem is existing for last 5 days.

Even files of small size are not getting attached in yahoo mail when I use firefox. However there is no problem when I use IE.

Thank you jscher2000. Yes my PDFs do contain the .pdf extension. I tried your excellent idea to utilize the drag and drop method, but I still get the same error message with PDFs. I have no problem attaching photos or Word documents with either method; just PDFs.
For further diagnostics, I started composing my email in Safari, attached all my pdfs and saved my email as a Draft. I then went to Firefox, opened the draft to continue working on it, and voila! There are all the pdfs I attached previously while in Safari. I was able to send the email with attachments through Firefox with no issues. The attachments went through and were able to be opened.
I am mystified, as Firefox has been trouble-free with my email account, and I have never had this particular issue till today. I made no changes to anything else on my computer, but I did notice very late last night that Outlook had one of those typical messages at the top of my Inbox to refresh my browser since Outlook had been updated. I refreshed and shut down for the night, and when I rebooted this morning that is when I discovered this brand new glitch with attachments. I'm assuming this has something to do their last update.

• I updated safari to 7.0.3 and pages to 5.2 and can no longer attached files in gmail that are pages or exported to word. Any suggestions?

I updated safari to 7.0.3 and pages to 5.2 and can no longer attached files in gmail that are pages or exported to word. Any suggestions?

I have a similar issue.
After updating Pages to 5.2, all Word export documents are 10 times the size they'd normally be.
A normal exported .DOC file that would have been under 200K, is now 1.7MB once exported. !!! ???
This is a major issue with Pages.

• I am having problems attaching files to my email using the latest Firefox 13.0.1, Comcast is my internet provider, but I did not have problem with Safari.

Why am I having problems attaching files to my email using Firefox 13.0.1.?
I am using a MAC, OS 10.6.8, and have Comcast as my internet provider. I noticed after I upgraded to Firefox 13.0.1 that I am having problems attaching files to my email. I do not experience the same problem with Safari, but I prefer to use Firefox, as all of my bookmarks and passwords are saved there. I just like the way Firefox works better than Safari.
I am a free-lance graphic designer and rely on my internet connection to my customers. I need this resolved ASAP!

Could you start by resetting the zoom level on the page? To do that, you can either:
* Press Ctrl+0 (that's a zero) on the keyboard
* View menu > Zoom > Reset
You also can use zoom to increase/decrease the size from there. This article describes the various mouse, keyboard, and menu methods: [[Font size and zoom - increase the size of web pages]].
Any luck?

• I cannot attach files to gmail. Tried everything including reset, uninstall, clearing history cookies and cache, nothing helps

cannot attach files to gmail despite doing everything even tried safemode

Try to set the network.http.spdy prefs to false on the about:config page.
*network.http.spdy.enabled
*network.http.spdy.enabled.v2
*network.http.spdy.enabled.v3
*http://kb.mozillazine.org/about:config
Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

• Can't attach files in gmail since installing Leopard

Recently installed OX X 10.5 Leopard and ever since, I can't attach files to outgoing Gmail emails.
I've tried in Safari, Camino and Firefox -- no luck.
It does work if I switch to the "older version" of Gmail.
Does anybody know if there's a setting I can change so I can use Gmail normally but be able to add attachments to mail?
Anybody else having this issue?

Your profile indicates you are running a very old version of Leopard which might explain the issue.
Update to 10.5.8 using the combo update (not the auto software update) and see if that fixes your problem.

• Having problems attaching files.

When I open a file on my iPhone and try to send it in an email it doesn't work. When it take me to the email and I have to enter in the address to send the email it appears to be attached but once sent and opened by the sender there is no attachment. Also when I send emails from other apps like that instead of the email just being sent it goes to my out box so I then have to leave whatever app I'm working in go to the iPhone mail app and go to my out box and send the email. I thought this was normal untill I cheched on my wife's phone and realized hers does not send her emails to the out box and on her phone I can attach file to emails. And when opened the attachment is there. Has any one else had this problem or have any idea how to fix it.

After looking into this a bit more I discovered that the problem only exist with my google email. Is this something apple did to make it harder on gmail users, or is this not a normal problem. Has anyone else had troubles attaching files to thier gmail account.

• I can't attach files on Gmail for the last week. Help!

I've been trying to attach files in my Gmail account for over a week but every time I try to attach it comes back "failed". This wasn't an issue until about a week ago. I've uninstalled/reinstalled Firefox and nothing. I've had to go through IE in order to attach files. Help please!

hello suzanne, firefox has introduced a new protocol named SPDY that should make pages load faster and is used on google pages. i've seen a report by another user who had the same problem uploading attachments to gmail as long as spdy was enabled.
could you please try the following: enter '''about:config''' into the location bar & search for all preferences beginning with '''network.http.''' - in case any of them is shown in bold & therefore not on its default value please right click and reset those preferences. afterwards restart the browser and see if the problem is gone.
when this did not resolve the issue or all entries were already set to their default values, please toggle '''network.http.spdy.enabled''' (again in about:config) to '''false''' by double-clicking it & restart the browser again.
in case the latter resolved the issue, could you please provide information on how you are accessing the internet (provider/ the hardware model of your router) & which security software is running on your system - maybe this information will help firefox developers to fix the underlying issue... thank you very much!

• Has anyone encountered problem with VIRSA_CC_ACTUSAGE missing some data?

Has anyone encountered a problem where the VIRSA_CC_ACTUSAGE table is missing some transaction activity?
We have a situation where the monthly ST03 file shows that a user executed the MI31 transaction some time back in August. However our ACTUSAGE table does not show this user performing MI31 for any day in August.
It does have records of other people using MI31 in August. It also has records of this same user performing other transactions in August. It even has records showing other transactions this same user performed in August.
This is now an issue with our external Auditors.
We are on GRC 5.3 SP 13.
Thanks.

Hi Bob,
VIRSA_CC_ACTUSAGE holds information on the transactions executed by users and it gets the data from STAD. Did you notice the time user has spent in the MI31 transaction code (I know even if the user hasn't spent more time, it should be recorded), but this another step to isolate the issue. Also, check SM21 logs on that specific day, and see if there are any events registered during that time related to STAD. I think it was not able to collect the data.
Also, check VIRSA_CC_ALTCDLOG. This is the Alter log table that stores information of ACTUSAGE. The purge utility will only delete the data from the ACTUSAGE, but it remains in the ALTCDLOG.
Refer to SAP Note 1512020 for additional details on the Alert files.
Hope this helps!!
BR,
Raghu
