Has anybody gotten a decent HD speed on their TC?

I have a Dual Band TC with a 1GB drive in it, My "server" (a Mac Mini with a Drobo attached via FW400) is connected directly (hardwired) to the TC. A have a good connection and the server can see the TC hard drive. When I start SuperDuper to backup to the TC, I am only getting about 4MB/sec transfer rate! I would think that with a 1000BaseT connection (and I verified that it is truly connected at that rate), that I could do better than 4MB/sec. I had firmware 7.4.2 and also went back to 7.4.1. Anybody got any ideas on how to improve the transfer rate?

I have a 1st generation mac mini (or whatever wasbeforethis generation), and I don't think it's possible.

  • Has anybody gotten a RocketRAID 640 working in a Mac Pro?

I have a RocketRAID 640 I purchased, based on the fact that it "had OS X drivers". Unfortunately l'm running into a bit of a snafu here.
The English website (www.highpoint-tech.com) shows for the RR640 drivers that "Mac drivers are available at http://hptmac.com/cn". This is their Chinese website of all places (why, if it has Mac drivers are they not listed on the English site?). I recently was contacted by their tech support, and they appear to be totally clueless why their driver isn't working.
Ya see, the one they link to is this one:
    http://www.hptmac.com/US/productfiles/HPT-Quad-eSATA-mac-v100-100120.dmg
But it's on the Chinese website. Yay?
So here's the issue: The .kext file's info.plist shows an IOPCIPrimaryMatch entry of "6441103". Breaking that down, the 1103 is the Marvell 9128 SATA controller (there are two on the card, oddly at x1 link width). The 644 is the ID of the card the driver is looking for in order to load. In other words, the driver (RR64x.kext), from the installer packaged labeled "RR644M" (for RocketRAID 644 Mac), will only see the RR644, but not the RR640 which I have. Unfortunately, injecting the proper IOPCIPrimaryMatch entry into the .kext file renders the .kext useless as it becomes a file that has "been installed incorrectly and cannot be used", because a user (me) modified it.
Has anybody gotten this card to work in a Mac Pro in OS X (it works fine in Windows on a Mac Pro) other than the inability to use CTRL-H to activate its BIOS configuration utility at bootup)? And if so, what driver are you using?
I've lost three days worth of work/"fun time" to trying to figure this out. I don't know why the card is so hard to get working, since functionally it's identical to the 644, only instead of eSATA ports they're all internal. Even the controllers used are the same, as is the link width of the card itself (but apparently not the firmware?).
I knew HighPoint had ridiculously bad support, but their hardware in general is rock solid (once you get it up and running). I kind of want my Vertex 3s to finally run speedy. I'd really hate to have to get a 6Gbps SAS card instead (and it'd have to be bootable which is EXPENSIVE) in order to plug into my Mac Pro 1,1's SAS cable that it uses to control the four internal HD bays (though that would give the HD bays native 6Gbps speed!).

Highpoint RR Quad eSATA for Mac is sold on Apple Store
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/H1113LL/A
with 4 favorable comments, from one that flashed the firmware for EFI32 to be bootable (odd, as they said they had "Early 2008" which does not jive), a few with 2010 models.
Sonnet, FirmTek or other with 6G PCIe controller IF it does not need to be bootable (you said you wanted that); and, you aren’t going to be pushing for really high performance with a single SSD.

  • Has anybody gotten a refurbished MBP?..

Hi, I am trying to make the BIG change, but I see there are a few issues with the new release of the macIntel's.
And I was wondering of getting a refurbished one.
Has anybody gotten a refurbished MBP yet?
And what about the whine, is it there?
Well, I'll keep trying the Mac OS x86 until they make some fixes or a new generation appears.
n/a   Other OS   "Gracias al Todo y a todos"

    welcome to the forum
a refurbished mac will run the same odds maye better than the new ones in terms of the heat and whine issues reported. personally, i beieve all OSX operating MBPS have the whine, simply it is at the edge of human hearing and comes and goes withthe CPUs usage. The heat issue is less common. While many are reporting VERY hot MBPs I have only seen a few that were really hot. As others have specualted this is probably due to too much paste on the processors.. making hte internal sensor not kick the fan on in time. this seems like a problem that you are less likely to get from a refurbished unit. In the past i have had nothing but excellent luck with apples refurb ubits and have a few in my business used by employees... apples support (despite what you a seem to hear on this forum) is far better than most and comes with the units amking them a stronger buy than ones through second parties.
My advice, buy a machine. if you notice it whining.. apple will proabbly adopt a solution similair to what XP has done with the core duo.. which is to shut it down (the second processor) and turn it on again based on load. this will be download fix and every MBP owner should benefit when they do this (whether they know it yet or not).
generally, it is a good idea to buy applecare if you are not really technically minded or would prefer the comfort of knowing the unit will be repaired at cost. since it is likely something was once reported wrong with the unit.. . i recommend you buy an extended warrenty...
make the switch.. i did 3 years ago.. and you will love not worrying about viruses, spyware, drivers, etc.... that is unless you load XP on your new toy!
good luck... and dare I say.. welcome to apple

    @Satterp
Not sure if you were responding to me or OP - my iPhone is on 5.1.  The OP at the time of writing was on 5.0.1.
Also, the OP and I had setup our Hotmail as an Exchange server (similar to IMAP), not POP3.

I don't think this is a Firefox problem. I have the same error message and I get it regardless of whether I'm using Firefox or another browser.
In checking [http://www.whatsrunning.net/QueryProductID.aspx?Product=16854] it is a file owned by Microsoft. I suggest you check your registry for errors.

  • Ok has anybody else seen a big drop in their synch...

Ok since the really bad rain on Thursday night my noise ratio had dropped from 16 dB down to 5dB and although I was still at 40/10 my max attainable had dropped to just over that.
A quick reboot of the modem this morning improved that with the noise margin going back up to 10dB and the max attainable going up to 45 meg/sec and I was wondering if anybody else has seen such a big change in their stats in the last couple of days?
And by the way my VDSL2 profile stayed stuck at 8c.

Ok an up date came down this morning and found the router had reset itself in the night and now my stats are are
    Basic Status
    Upstream
    Downstream
    Unit
    Actual Data Rate
    9994
    39904
    Kb/s
    SNR
    219
    62
    0.1dB
So now I last lost 10 decibels of noise margin which corresponds to about 12 meg of attainable.
I am on 40/10 just but I am wondering why is it happening on just the download as the upload is untouched.
Oh well the BT checker with it's 33 meg/sec estimate may be correct after all.

  • Has anyone gotten a "Premium Messaging" charge on their bill for "Roundhouse Management Alerts"?

I was looking at my most recent bill and noticed that there was a $9.99 charge on one of our lines for "Premium Messaging."  I pulled up last month's bill and the noticed that the charge was there as well.  I called Verizon and asked the customer rep what this was for.  She said it was for something called "Roundhouse Management Alerts" but she had no idea what this was.  I told her we did not subscribe to any such service and she acknowledged that it was possible someone could have signed the line up for the alert without our knowledge.
Verizon handled this immediately to my satisfaction.  The customer service representative took the charge off our new bill and credited our account for the previous month's charge that had already been paid.  Nevertheless, it's kind of frightening that Verizon might process a charge from some outside vendor without verifying that the charge was legitimate.  We have multiple lines and its just lucky that I noticed this charge appearing when I did.
Has anyone else run into this?

I too just discovered a Permium Messaging charge on my husbands line. It had something to do with Facebook, MySpace & Twitter updates. My husband doesn't use any of these social websites! Customer servce was kind enough to remove the charge & give me a number to text so we could opt-out. A block for Premium Messaging has been put on both our lines!
I'm so glad to hear that others have been able to have these charges removed as well.
Thanks Verizon for the great customer service!!

  • Has anybody had compatibility issues with Leopard and their scanners?

I recently installed Leopard on my G5. I'm still using Photoshop CS2 and so far no problems. Until today. I have a Epson Perfection 2450 scanner and today I went to scan some old photos. At first blush, no problem. I put in a second photo. Nothing. I get a 2 messages: The first says: "Make sure the scanner is on and properly set up to scan." Like, yeah. It was just working. The second message read Couldn't complete the import command because there is no scanner installed." I switched the USB port and it worked, once, and then same messages appeared when I tried to repeat. I went to Epson and downloaded a new driver to no avail. The same thing happened. I'm also having the same problem with my Nikon scanner. Photoshop or Leopard is creating problems for my scanners. I've updated all the necessary rivers. But nothing. I'm flummoxed.

I have used the same media type for the last year with no issue
Vendors change suppliers of discs; often one batch is not the same as another.
Media is THE most common cause of the error.
Solution is to change media, and don't but 16x media for a 8x or slower drive.
Another cause is out of date firmware, which can be updated easily in Windows.
Use DVRFlash to update firmware in OS X.

  • Has anybody tried LinuxDNA?

I was watching a favorite IPTV show of mine, and they had an interview about LinuxDNA. From what I understood, it allows you to optimize the kernel specifically for what you do, for example gaming. They claim to have a 200 FPS increase on Quake 3 once they optimized the system. Has anybody gotten LinuxDNA to work on Arch?

Hi, this is Tyler McAdams. I was the one interviewed about LinuxDNA on hak5.org. Please allow me to clarify.
The 200fps increase is NOT with an ICC compiled kernel. It is strictly with GCC. An ICC compiled system with both an ICC compiled kernel and ICC system code with IPO and PGO optimizations would probably increase the FPS about 20fps or so on top of 200fps.
When I say 200 fps per sec increase, I am referencing to over Vista Ultimate on the same hardware:
P4 EE 3.4ghz, 4Gigs PC3200, Supermico P4SCT mobo, nVidia Geforce 7950 GT 512MB, KillerNic gaming network card, and X-Fi Fatality gaming sound card.
The Linux system tested was a highly optimized Gentoo Linux system that was optimized to do one thing only: gaming. The idea is to have a special gaming system that you can dual boot in to a lan events... etc for hard-core gamers. You would not and could not use this system for anything other than gaming.
We have many uses for the kernel, gaming hpc, netbooks...etc All of these uses are specialized and furthermore optimized through PGO profiling for a specific purpose. That is how we can get extra performance that a generic Windows or even Linux install can not.
Quake 3 is a cpu intensive game that works well on Intel hardware. That is why I picked it to talk about. It shows what you can do by optimizing a system for gaming.

I do backup with iCloud.  I can't wait until the new iMac is available so that I can once again have my files in more than 1 location without needing to rely solely on the cloud.
I also rely on iTunes and my MacBook and Time Machine as well as backing up to iCloud. I know many users know have gone totally PC free, but I chose to use iCloud merely as my third backup.
I assume that the restore would result in my ability to open Pages and Numbers and fix the problem with deleting apps, but this would also mean that if my Numbers documents still exist solely within the app and are just not on iCloud for some reason that they would be gone forever.  Is that right?
In a word, yes. In a little more detail.... When you restore from an iCloud backup, you must erase the device and start all over again. There is no other way to access the backup in iCloud without erasing the device. Consequently, you are starting all over again. Therefore, it would also be my assumption that Pages and Numbers will work again and that the deleting apps issues would be fixed as well.
If the documents are not in the backup, and you do not have a backup elsewhere, the documents could be gone forever.

  • Has anybody downloaded logic pro from the app store and how did it work thanks

has anybody downloaded logic pro from the app store and how did it work?
    thanks

I've recently upgraded my stuff with a Mac Mini Server and downloaded Logic from the app store with absolutely no problems at all. I'm on 10.7.3 with an i7 processor and 4Gb memory (yeah, may as well put another 4 in as well, I know).
Logic 9.1.6 is running very smoothly for me, but I think I'll go to 9.1.7 because there is a malfunction with time stretching regions in the Arrange window that the update's meant to fix.
A lot of your experience with downloading the additional content, apart from Logic itself, will depend on the speed of your internet connection, but the software handling of that aspect seems quite good - best to just load one lot of stuff at a time and see how it works out.

  • Has anybody asked for rma Micro returned with 2.11.

I had to rma my Micro and emailed Creative and asked if they would return my player with firmware 2..02 installed. They emailed back and said that they would write a note on the rma slip to install 2..02 but would not guarantee that it will get done. Has anybody asked for this and gotten 2..02 installed into an rma Micro?

I guess you need to request for 'server file' from verisign ,
put it in your server directory and point
    SSLCertificateChainFile to the file.
