Has anybody used the program "clean your mac"

I was wondering if programs like this were necessary and what suggestions others may have instead to keep it free from unwanted 'stuff'

In my testing of the so called "cleanup" applications, I found them to be either worthless or dangerous.
Hence the reason I recommend against installing any of them.

    Hi,
Has anybody used the JDBC 2.0 driver for sql server 2000 downloadable from the
microsoft website? When I try using it with WL 6.1 sp1 it says it can't load the
driver.I try viewing the class file from the jar file using the jar utility it
gives an unknown Zip format error.Anybody has any solution for this ?If anybody
has managed to work with this microsoft driver i will be grateful if they provide
    me with a solution.
    Thanks
    Thomas

    Hello Thomas,
You may want to download the driver again and install it again.
heres a sample xml tag in the config.xml:
    <JDBCConnectionPool
    DriverName="com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver"
    InitialCapacity="3" MaxCapacity="12" Name="MSpool"
    Password="{3DES}fUz1bxR0zDg=" Properties="user=uid"
    Targets="myserver"
    URL="jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://mydbserver:1433"/>
ensure that you follow the instructions from Microsoft. For using 2000
driver you will need to have
Install_dir/lib/msbase.jar and Install_dir/lib/msutil.jar in addition to
    Install_dir/lib/mssqlserver.jar in the CLASSPATH.

  • Has anybody used the transaction RSUOM in 2004s?

    Hello
Has anybody used the transaction RSUOM in 2004s?
Documentation found on help.sap.com states that this transaction can help dealing with alternate unit of measure conversion ("equivalent to currency conversion")
I have created a quantity conversion type in RSUOM but I have not found how to use it - is it in the update rules or the Bex or somewhere else.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks
    Ioan

    Hello Ioan,
this functionality corresponds to currency conversion (and is implemented with a similar concept "conversion type"). Both unit conversions within one dimension (e.g. kg -> g) and e.g. material dependent conversions (e.g. kg -> palettes) are supported.
Currently the conversion can be used within the new transformations and within a planning function. Interactive conversion in query/Bex is not yet supported.

  • Has anybody used the WInterface for "on top" functionality successfully?

    Dear Everyone,
This is a question for anybody who has used the WInterface classes and .dll file. I have downloaded the WInterface.zip file and have extracted it. I have also used the provided classes (particularly WInterface.java) and placed the .dll on the "java.library.path".
As my path points at C:\j2sdk1.4.0\bin I placed the .dll file into this ...\bin directory. However I have not gained success with any attempts to use these classes. Programs compile fine, however when any attempt is made to refer to the methods in the WInterface an exception is raised.
The type of exception is UnsatisfiedLinkException. I know this to mean that the JVM cannot find the .dll (in this case) being refered to. However I am sure that the file is in a directory on the class path.
Somebody out there, amongst you guys, knows how to use the WInterface.
If you are that somebody please explain to me how you achieved the "always on top" functionality that WInterface provides.
Any help will be really appreciated. Thanks

Sorry to bump this old post, but I have the same problem. Can someone show me a simple example of how to use WInterface from including it, to compiling it, and executing it?
    Thanks
    Jon

I just confirmed it is a bug in Visual Studio 2013.  Using Visual Studio 2010 (VS10) I have no problems creating a database.  The workaround in VS 2013 is to create a database in VS10, store it on localhost, import it into your Solution using
SQL Server Explorer in Visual Studio 2013, then you can create an Entity Data (ADO.NET / EF) that connects to the database.  But even this step is a bit of a problem, in that you must first create an empty Entity Data, then populate it by connecting to
an existing database, which would be the database you imported from VS10.  If you try and connect the Entity Data directly to the database using the Entity Data Model Wizard, nothing seems to happen.  So first create an Entity Data model (empty),
then connect it to the database you have created with a New Connection using the built in Visual Studio 2013 SQL Server manager.

  • Has anybody used the Camera RAW filter on an OpenEXR, HDR or similar floating point color image?

I often work on floating point images rendered out of 3ds Max, specifically OpenEXRs, and I have been lately using the Camera RAW filter to do some image adjustments. There is one problem though, the float image does not load correctly into Camera RAW. It looks slightly over-exposed when loaded and it is nearly impossible to get it back to "scratch". Is Camera RAW not fully float capable? Camera RAW is a drunkard compositor's dream when doing color corrections on a floating point image, especially an image rendered out of a 3D application such as 3ds Max or Maya. Any thoughts?

For what it's worth I have seen this going back a loooong time.  I've posted on the subject as well and have never gotten a solid answer.  It just appears as though Photoshop considers it "already open, so no need to open it twice".  I believe an uninitialized variable could be involved, since it's intermittent.
I have found a couple of choices for workarounds or workflow changes...
    1.  You can save the first-opened document opened (e.g., as  a .PSD) somewhere.  Then reopening the raw file will always open a second document.
    2.  You could consider opening the raw file just once, duplicating it as a second layer, then use Camera Raw as a filter.  Obviously that doesn't avail Camera Raw of the raw data, but its usefulness depends on what you're trying to accomplish.

  • Has anybody used Mag+ to Publish your mag?

    Hello,
We have been publishing a magazine for the past 3 months and it's starting to pick up a bit of steam. My boss has looked into using Mag+ and actually talked to a rep from them today.
I'm wondering if anybody has dealt with them or has heard anything - positive or negative about using them? Are there any drawbacks design wise?
Our main goal is to save some $$ basically. I know that they basically charge you per how much space the product would take up (and you start with 250 GB). We would be using our own server for this, and they said we wouldn't be charged as far as that is concerned then. SO all we would be paying for is the initial cost for them to "host" it I guess is about $600/mo. ($400 initial version and then +$200 for an unlimited number of alternate devices.)
It sounds pretty decent after listening in on the conversation they had, but I know that like anything, it is never as easy or as good as it seems.
ANY help or insight into this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Please don't make the mistake of thinking of cost per download as a network expense that you can save by hosting your own files. The download fee is simply the method chosen to account for use. When we set out to build the pricing model for DPS we chose to account for a useage basis rather than trying to build out lots of monthly tiered pricing models. The method used to set the variable pricing in place was downloads. Those of you familiar with Site Catalyst know that that product is charged on an API call basis. Same model.
The pricing model that resonated with the majority of customers is one where they paid a monthly subscription charge and then variable pricing based on their use of services such as distribution, notifications, analytics, folio producer, social sharing, web viewer and others with an option to pay down the download charge based on volume purchases.
While you may be able to purchase a "cheaper" solution by using a competitors product just make sure you're actually accounting for all the costs. You don't host and deliver files for free, you don't get analytic data for free,  you don't get collaboration and other things for free. Any functionality not provided by the vendor is either built out by the publisher (you do pay to deliver content and staff to manage the hosting, you do pay for analytics either by giving others access to your data or by time and money used to generate reports and instrument code, you do pay one way or the other for notification services).
We realize competition exists and we welcome it as we think that DPS stands up to any competitors product offering, particularly when you look at the depth and breadth of what we provide as a complete end to end solution.

  • How to remove preinstalled files of adobe photoshop from my mac mini so that i can install a new version of the same software. The previous version was removed using the app cleaner software.Could not continue installation bcoz of earlier files

How to remove preinstalled files of adobe photoshop from my mac mini so that i can install a new version of the same software. The previous version was removed using the app cleaner software.Could not continue installation of the new version because of the existance of files from the previous version.plz help

What "app cleaner software" ? I ask because installing Photoshop over a previous version has never been a problem. Perhaps your difficulty stems from another source, eg. "cleaner software" ?
If you look in your hard drive, at the root level there is a Library. In there is a folder called Application Support, and in that you will find a folder called Adobe. Files from your previous version are there.
However, I urge you to call Adobe support to make sure you are not doing anything that would mess up other Adobe applications.

  • Hi, I need the program of access from the office, so i'm going to but the Microsoft office 365 university, will i have to but any other program to use the access from my mac? or to open any database that I will have did from any other computer (not mac)?

hi, I need the program of access from the office, so i'm going to but the Microsoft office 365 university, will i have to but any other program to use the access from my mac? or to open any database that I will have did from any other computer (not mac)?

There has never been a Mac version of Access. Microsoft never created one, realising that it was very inferior to the FileMaker Pro database application.
So if you must run Access you will have to run Windows on your mac.

  • Any mac user use some kind of apps to "clean" your mac???

i know that a lot of software are build for "CLEAN YOUR MAC", software like clean my mac, mac keeper, ccleaner. etc
they all said that when we use our mac, there are a lot of "dummiy files " like language pack or used history .ect that need to be cleaned.
if we dun clean it, it will make the system laggy.
i know some ppl on the internet said its true, then other ppl said that all these softwares are jus malware, its totally unecessary to use all these.
the mac ox system will clean itself.
    which one is true???
did Apple claim or announce anything about these software???
If its true, the softwares can clean your mac, how come all of these apps CANT go to Mac App Store???
IF its true, you guys use what software to run the cleaning process???

Macs do not need "cleaning". Apps such as the ones you mention have the ability to wreck your Mac.
If its true, the softwares can clean your mac, how come all of these apps CANT go to Mac App Store???
Because they are not safe to use.
There are apps in the App Store that suggest the ability or necessity to "clean" memory or unwanted files. They are worthless and are only capable of degrading performance and wasting power. They will also waste your time and your money. Deleting localization files will cause problems and cannot be un-done without reinstalling OS X. Language files use a negligible amount of disk space.
IF its true, you guys use what software to run the cleaning process???
A much better question is "how should I protect my Mac":
Never install any product that claims to "speed up", "clean up", "optimize", or "accelerate" your Mac. Without exception, they will do the opposite.
Never install pirated or "cracked" software, software obtained from dubious websites, or other questionable sources. Illegally obtained software is almost certain to contain malware.
Don’t supply your password in response to a popup window requesting it, unless you know what it is and the reason your credentials are required.
Don’t open email attachments from email addresses that you do not recognize, or click links contained in an email:
Most of these are scams that direct you to fraudulent sites that attempt to convince you to disclose personal information.
Such "phishing" attempts are the 21st century equivalent of a social exploit that has existed since the dawn of civilization. Don’t fall for it.
Apple will never ask you to reveal personal information in an email. If you receive an unexpected email from Apple saying your account will be closed unless you take immediate action, just ignore it. If your iTunes or App Store account becomes disabled for valid reasons, you will know when you try to buy something or log in to this support site, and are unable to.
Don’t install browser extensions unless you understand their purpose. Go to the Safari menu > Preferences > Extensions. If you see any extensions that you do not recognize or understand, simply click the Uninstall button and they will be gone.
Don’t install Java unless you are certain that you need it:
Java, a non-Apple product, is a potential vector for malware. If you are required to use Java, be mindful of that possibility.
Disable Java in Safari > Preferences > Security.
Despite its name JavaScript is unrelated to Java. No malware can infect your Mac through JavaScript. It’s OK to leave it enabled.
Block browser popups: Safari menu > Preferences > Security > and check "Block popup windows":
Popup windows are useful and required for some websites, but popups have devolved to become a common means to deliver targeted advertising that you probably do not want.
Popups themselves cannot infect your Mac, but many contain resource-hungry code that will slow down Internet browsing.
If you ever see a popup indicating it detected registry errors, that your Mac is infected with some ick, or that you won some prize, it is 100% fraudulent. Ignore it.
Ignore hyperventilating popular media outlets that thrive by promoting fear and discord with entertainment products arrogantly presented as "news". Learn what real threats actually exist and how to arm yourself against them:
The most serious threat to your data security is phishing. To date, most of these attempts have been pathetic and are easily recognized, but that is likely to change in the future as criminals become more clever.
OS X viruses do not exist, but intentionally malicious or poorly written code, created by either nefarious or inept individuals, is nothing new.
Never install something without first knowing what it is, what it does, how it works, and how to get rid of it when you don’t want it any more.
If you elect to use "anti-virus" software, familiarize yourself with its limitations and potential to cause adverse effects, and apply the principle immediately preceding this one.
Most such utilities will only slow down and destabilize your Mac while they look for viruses that do not exist, conveying no benefit whatsoever - other than to make you "feel good" about security, when you should actually be exercising sound judgment, derived from accurate knowledge, based on verifiable facts.
Do install updates from Apple as they become available. No one knows more about Macs and how to protect them than the company that builds them.
Summary: Use common sense and caution when you use your Mac, just like you would in any social context. There is no product, utility, or magic talisman that can protect you from all the evils of mankind.

  • How to use your Treo 750 to browse the internet on your mac

    Hi There,
I am by no means an expert on this, but this is what has worked for me. I'm on Vodafone in New Zealand but I think this setup (or very similar) should work with Cingular in the states or other Windows Mobile v5 devices.
    1. Install The Windows Mobile Modem Scripts Onto Your Mac
Download the Generic Windows Mobile Modem Scripts (3 of them) from: http://www.taniwha.org.uk/
The scripts are under "Windows Smartphones & BlackBerrys" called "Scripts for Windows Mobile phones" (half way down the page)
Once downloaded, put the scripts into >Library >Modem Scripts
    2. Start Bluetooth on the Treo
    Go >Start Menu >Settings >Connections (from the bottom) >Bluetooth
    Tick "Turn on Bluetooth"
Tick "Make this device discoverable to other devices"
    Click OK
    3. Pair The Treo with your Mac (done on the Mac)
If the Bluetooth menu is not already on your mac (near the date and time, top right) go to >System Preferences >Bluetooth
Under the "settings" tab tick "Show Bluetooth status in the menu bar" and the menu will appear
Once the menu is there, choose "Set up Bluetooth Device..."
Click "Continue" and on the next screen choose "Mobile Phone". Click "Continue"
Make sure the screen on the Treo is on (I've found the mac has trouble discovering the device otherwise)
Choose your phone and click "Continue"
Click continue and enter the pass code on the Treo and click "Next"
Once pared, on the phone click "Finish"
On the mac, make sure "Access the Internet with your phone's data connection" is ticked and click "Continue"
Enter your Vodafone (or Cingular) account username and password (see notes below)
Under phone number enter: *99# (this invokes GPRS or the 3G data connection)
Choose "Windows Mobile GSM 460k" from the "Modem Script" pop up menu
    Click "Continue"
    Click "Quit"
Select the new phone from the Bluetooth Devices list and press the "Edit Serial Ports" button from the left
Click the plus sign under the main window
Name it "Treo750" (or Cingular or Vodafone or whatever you want)
Choose "Modem" from the "Port type" pop up menu
Tick "Require pairing for security" and "Show in Network Preferences"
    Click "Apply"
    4. Configure The Bluetooth Port
    Go >System Preferences >Network
    Choose "Network"
A "New Port Detected" window should pop up, click "OK" (if it doesn't and you have a new "Bluetooth" port, don't worry)
Select the "Bluetooth" port from the list and click "Configure"
Under the PPP tab, click the "PPP Options" button from the bottom
Untick "Send PPP echo packets" and "Use TCP header compression" under "Advanced Options"
    Click "OK"
Click the "Apply Now" button from the bottom right
    Close System Preferences
    5. Connecting to browse the internet from the mac
    Go >Applications >Internet Connect
    Click "Bluetooth" from the top
Tick "Show modem status in menu bar"
    Quit internet connect
Make sure the Treo is on and bluetooth is on (and your data connection is on, see notes below)
Go up to the internet connect menu (the little phone icon) and select "Connect"
    Notes
For the carrier account name and password, I just used the same account info that was on my phone under >Start >Settings >Connections >Connections Icon >Manage existing connections >Edit "VFNZ Internet" (or your carrier name) >Next Screen >Next Screen >Next Screen. On this third screen, I found my account details.
If for you there is nothing, then more than likely your carrier doesn't require a name and password - so on your Mac, leave these fields blank and just enter *99# for the phone number. Although, I think you may have to use something (for Mac & Windows Mobile compatibility) so just try entering username: guest and password: guest. There is much more info regarding this in the readme file that comes with the Windows Mobile modem scripts. Or contact your carrier for your specific details (probably the best thing to do!).
I have found the connection to be a little bit unreliable when the Treo's screen goes to sleep - so I tend to hit a button on the treo every 30 seconds to keep it on - But Vodafone here in NZ has flashed the ROM to make it HSDPA compatible so others may not have this problem.
I had trouble the first time I tried to connect through internet connect. But after I connected through >System Preferences >Network >Bluetooth >Connect button next to the configure button at the bottom, it worked every time from the Internet Connect menu.
Also, you may want to check your email or browse a page on the Treo first, just before connecting from your mac to make sure the data connection is on - I haven't worked this out fully but I'm not sure the Mac can open the data connection itself. Again, this may be a region/carrier specific issue.
    Cheers
    Ben

I've also found The Missing Sync to work much better than Pocket Mac for syncing the Treo to the Mac.

  • Is it necessary to "clean" your Mac?   I'm not s but I've been getting ads about cleaning your Mac.  What does it do?   Would it make surfing the web faster?  thanks

HI,    is it necessary to "clean" your Mac?     I'm not sure what that means or what it does but I've been getting ads that offer to clean it.  Would doing that make surfing the web faster?   Thanks!

    Suggestions for Mac maintenance
Make redundant backups, keeping at least one off-site at all times. One backup is not enough. Don’t back up your backups; make them independent of each other. Don’t rely completely on any single backup method, such as Time Machine.
Keep your software up to date. Software Update can be set to notify you automatically of updates to the Mac OS. Some third-party applications have a similar feature, if you don’t mind letting them phone home. Otherwise you have to check yourself on a regular basis.
Don't install crapware, such as “themes,” "haxies," “add-ons,” “toolbars,” “enhancers," “optimizers,” “accelerators,” “extenders,” “cleaners,” “defragmenters,” “firewalls,” “guardians,” “defenders,” “protectors,” most “plugins,” commercial "virus scanners,” or "utilities." With very few exceptions, this kind of material is useless, or worse than useless. The more actively promoted the product, the more likely it is to be garbage. The only software you should install is that which directly enables you to do the things you use a computer for — such as creating, communicating, and playing — and does not modify the way other software works. Never install any third-party software unless you know how to uninstall it.
The free anti-malware application ClamXav is not crap, and although it’s not routinely needed, it may be useful in some environments, such as a mixed Mac-Windows enterprise network.
Beware of trojans. A trojan is malicious software (“malware”) that the user is duped into installing voluntarily. Such attacks were rare on the Mac platform until recently, but are now increasingly common, and increasingly dangerous. There is some built-in protection against downloading malware, but you can’t rely on it — the attackers are always at least one day ahead of the defense. You can’t rely on third-party protection either. What you can rely on is common-sense awareness — not paranoia, which only makes you more vulnerable. Never install software from an untrustworthy or unknown source. If in doubt, do some research. Any website that prompts you to install a “codec” or “plugin” that comes from the same site, or an unknown site, is untrustworthy. Software with a known corporate brand, such as Adobe Flash, must be acquired directly from the developer. No intermediary is acceptable, and don’t trust links unless you know how to parse them. Any file that is automatically downloaded from a web page without your having requested it should go straight into the Trash. A website that claims you have a “virus,” or that anything else is wrong with your computer, is rogue.
Relax, don’t do it. Besides the above, no routine maintenance is necessary or beneficial for the vast majority of users; specifically not “cleaning caches,” “zapping the PRAM,” “rebuilding the directory,” “running periodic scripts,” “deleting log files,” “scanning for viruses,” or “repairing permissions.” Such measures are for solving problems as they arise, not for maintenance. The very height of futility is running an expensive third-party application called “Disk Warrior” when nothing is wrong, or even when something is wrong and you have backups, which you must have. Don’t waste money on Disk Warrior or anything like it.
