Has anyone else had an iPhone 5 that's only been dropped once accidentally and smashed the screen? Mine has done that and as I don't have mobile insurance it'll cost a fortune to replace it through Apple!!  I don't think the phone is fit for purpose as any other phone i've had has been dropped and been fine and surely they expect a mobile to be accidentally dropped at least once!!

Yeah, sad to hear of your accident:
If you dropped it on concrete- that is the hardest material and chance of damage goes up tremedously.  Actually you are fortunate not to have mobile insurance because then you have to trust your insurance provider to provide you with a quality replacement or repair.
Apple is always spot-on you know what you're getting.  They can always attempt to replace JUST the display on an iPhone 5 for $149 + tax is what I've heard them quote others. But they said it's $229 to replace your phone with another whole new iPhone 5.  Get the AppleCare+ because two of these incidents will only cost you $49 + tax in the future!

  • Has anyone got the Lion Server wiki to work?

I can get the Lion Server wiki to work on the default website, but cannot figure out how to get it to work on an additional website I have created in the Server app.  Has anyone got this to work?  If so, how do you do it?  I imagine it has something to do with an alias or something in one of the conf files in /etc/apache2/sites, but cannot get past this.  Thank you in advance for any guidance.

I finally relented and just put all of my website files in the /Library/Server/Web/Data/Sites/Default directory and got my wiki running off of my website properly at www.mydomainname.com/wiki.  I am still looking for a way for having this wiki to run off of a website that is not stored in the Default directory if someone knows how to do that.  It would also be nice to have several wikis served up (one per website, or even several per website) by the wiki server in the same way that more than one website can be served up by the web server.  Anyway, the problem is solved for now.

  • Has anyone had issues with the backing of 5c coming apart from phone?

I have the 5C and always keep a case on it. I noticed today that on the left corner, the back casing is coming off of the phone. I am not happy with this and want to go in the store but I know they will tell me I dropped the phone. I am anal retentive about taking care of my phone. Has anyone else had this issue?

Answering this question will not help your issue.  You need to take the iPhone to the nearest Genius Bar.  That's the only solution that will reach an affirmative result.

  • Has anyone dropped mountain lion and returned to lion?, has anyone dropped mountain lion and returned to lion?

NOTHING BUT TROUBLE SINCE DOWNLOADING MOUNTAIN LION.
left me with a mountain to climb to decide if i should trash this best of apple.
i cannot login with keyboard, have to restart and get on with auto login after restart. from sleep cannot login except sporadically when a pop up appears---that has been unpredictable.
senior advisor tried to help, we thought we had it under control--now most apps have some sort of glitch or non-function.
help---this is the first real apple problem for me in 15 years

If I can say, turning back when facing issue isn't the right way to go foward.  I would suggest to solve what went wrong instead of going back to Lion.  This will be a more fun/permanent way to go.
If your issue is generalized to many apps, I would also suggest that it could be more time efficient at this point to redo a clean install of ML instead of trying to point the issue and solve it.  Keep in mind that most people doesn't have issue upgrading, therefore you should be able too.
First question, do you have a TM backup?  If yes, I would perform a clean install and bring your stuff back from your backup.
There are different way to do a clean install like in old times; if you no longer and the downloaded MT install file, you can redownload it and follow the step illustrated here (http://www.macworld.com/article/1167857/how_to_make_a_bootable_mountain_lion_ins tall_drive.html) in order to make yourself a bootable drive to erase your HD and perform a fresh install of ML.  Then you will be able to bring back your data from your TM.  The only painfull extra step will be to reinstall your third party softwares.

  • Has anyone used Mountain Lion with Time Machine for the WD MyBook Live Duo

This NAS is working with OSX Lion.  But since I had trouble moving up to Lion with my previous WD NAS drive, I want to make sure that it works.
    Thanks

Upgraded to Mavericks yesterday.  Seems to have gone well except for one thing.  My computer will not recognized my WD MyBook Live 3T and thus Time Machine will not work with it.  My wife's MacBook Pro is still running 10.6.8 and her computer is still working properly and doing back ups.  Called Western Digital Tech support and Apple Tech Support.  Not much helpl there.  I attempted to download and use the newest sofware (during Mavericks installation I did get a warning that the old WD software was not supported).  However, one of the first steps is getting the software to scan for the backup drive.  No dice.  The computer is not recognizing its existence at all in any place you might look.  So I am stuck and frustrated at this point.  I have plugged and unplugged things.  The MyBook Live is hooked up directly by ethernet cable to an Airport Extreme router.  My computer is hooked up by ethernet cable to the router and my wife's laptop uses the WiFi connection.  Apple Tech suggested a direct hookup to my computer.  My computer still would not recognize it.

  • Has anyone ever SUCCESSFULLY gotten iTunes to back up library to disc?

I've tried numerous times over different versions of iTunes, and I can NEVER get iTunes to back up my purchased library to disc.
It offers to do it to DVD, to regular CD--- and nothing works. It spits the tray out, says to put in a blank CD and I do-- and it "checks Media" and never accomplishes anything. I'm starting to doubt the function even works and was put in there to make it look good.
Has anyone ever successfully gotten the "Back Up Library to Disc" function to work?
im running the latest version of iTunes.

GOOD POINT. You cannot backup to an external hd. Who wants to use dvds OR cds for backup anyway? The whole reason for buying an ipod was to avoid these two optical disc nightmares and get with a hard disk management solution. itunes doesn't recognize external hard drives for backup. Ridiculous. Try using an ext hd as the itunes location for your music if you really want to see problems develop. Managing music instead of playing music has become my past time since I got into the ipod/ itunes mess. All I do is try to clean up it's messes. The software developers need to be accountable. Class action? No support, except forum, unless you want to pay.

  • Has anyone taken their iPad 3 to Apple over Wi-Fi issues?

Has anyone taken their iPad (3rd Generation) Wi-Fi only model to an Apple store and tried to use AppleCare to solve their Wi-Fi issues?
    *Start: Problem/Rant*
I had an iPad 2 Wi-Fi only model and I never had an issue with it. When the iPad (3rd Generation) was released, I went ahead and bought it. However, from day one, I never had the wireless strength of my iPad 2.
I'm a college student, live in a dorm, and I am fairly tech savvy. This problem confused me for the longest, as no environmental factors had changed and my iPad 2 would still connect at full bars. I read on some forums that many new iPad 3 users had reported that their new iPad had poorer signal strength in general after running many different diagnostic test. Apparently the radio in the device isn't as good picking up reception as the iPad 2.
After conducting some dB tests of my own, I found this to be true indeed. But I could live with it, as my iPad (3rd Generation) still connected to Wi-Fi for my dorm (as I am close to an access point). However that wasn't the end of my problems. Anytime I watched Hulu, Youtube, or streamed a movie that was at least an hour long, my wireless signal would drop completely and would pause the video to give me a blue pop-up box stating that I had no Internet connection.
I noticed that my wireless icon had gone away, but after about 1 minute it reappeared. The video wouldn't resume, so I had to refresh the page and go back to where it got stuck previously. A minor inconvenience, but still a problem. The first time, I wrote it off as a legitimate Internet problem on my campus's part. However, the same problem occurred again, about an hour later. I quickly went to my computer and tested the connection and I still had Internet. After this point, I setup two wireless devices on the same network and waited for it to occur, and when it did, I was able to conclude that it was my iPad's fault.
In the interest of getting it to work and my own curiosity, I tried all the standard troubleshooting steps such as: Rebooting the iPad, restoring the iPad, connecting to various encryption types such as my campus WPA and WEP network types. I even got a wireless router with a direct Internet connection, turned off the encryption and tested this on different channels and even g/n networks. I still get one to two minute periodic wireless network drops.
I've had this iPad 3 since launch and aside from the Wi-Fi thing, it has been great, but it has finally gotten to me. The other day, I was running low on time and was uploading my professor's notes to Dropbox that I had recorded on my iPad when the signal gave out for it's regular wireless fail and it ruined a presentation. Yeah, first world problems, but when I paid so much for this and have invested so much of my own time to fix something that should of worked in the first place, it is kind of infuriating.
    /end rant
I am going to an Apple store tomorrow and using my AppleCare warranty while telling them my problem and hope that they can fix it. However I am worried that since it appears to be a hardware issue, that they won't be able to fix it. Also my iPad 3 has no screen protector and even though it is used, it is in perfect condition (I used a case for the exterior). I don't want a refurbished model which may have minor scratches (on a retina screen this would drive me insane). I am OCD about keeping my expensive stuff safe and scratch free. I know that I should of brought it in the moment I noticed the issue, but I was secretly hoping that it was just a bad firmware/software issue that would of been resolved with iOS 6.0 (obviously it wasn't) and my store doesn't accept returns on any Apple Products (Barnes & Noble) even if you open it in front of them, however they do offer AppleCare which is what I am hoping can fix it. I'm still within my year warranty, have the original receipt and box.
Does anyone have any experience with a similar issue or a wi-fi issue at all with the iPad (3rd Generation) and using AppleCare? I've read horror stories about employees doing terrible things and is it safe to not restore my iPad and just hand it over to them? I know this is just me being lazy, but is it alright for me not to delete/restore my iPad before handing it over to them? Like I don't have to worry about them posting on twitter or checking my email? After two semesters, it is kind of a hassle to put everything back on there, anyone have any bad experience just handing it over?
Lastly, is there anything I should do, before handing it over to them? Like taking pictures of what it looked like, before they handled it? Is there a way to register with Apple the MAC address of the iPad so they know that I am the owner? (well, I guess my email should be associated with that).
I know it is a long read, any questions answered would be appreciated (it doesn't have to be all), and if people want, I'll update on my experience with AppleCare regarding my issue and if it gets resolved.

I've seen a few posts from users that had wifi problems getting a replacement iPad.
A refurb iPad has a new screen, battery and back plus warranty.
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Has anyone "zoomed in" on a portion of a waveform graph?

Has anyone ever used two cursors to zoom in on a portion of a waveform graph?
I've seen that newer Oscilloscopes offer features to do this both horizontally and vertically.
See the attached jpg for an example of what I'm trying to do.  It is from Google Finance.  Notice the area circled in red.  The two cursors define the portion of the waveform to be displayed on the main graph.  There is also a scrollbar beneath them which allows the user to quickly move the zoomed-in area across the graph- I would love to have that functionality on the LabVIEW graphs.
My first thought is that I can do this using mostly property nodes.  Not sure on vertical zooming scrolling the horizontal zoom- I'm thinking maybe this would best be done using scrollbars which are not part of the graph itself.
    Any ideas or comments?
    Thanks,
    Dave

Cursor position is available in Labview via a property node. You can also set about every chart property with property nodes. I have used this many times. Here is a trick. If you have two cursors, Make separate arrays of the x and y  positions. Then  use the "Array max&min" to sort them. This will make your program independent of the cursor sequence.
Besides which, my opinion is that Express VIs Carthage must be destroyed deleted
(Sorry no Labview "brag list" so far)

  • Tomcat 5.5 issues, has anyone got JSF working with tomcat 5.5 yet?

    Hi,
Firstly I'm wondering if anyone has got JSF 1.1 working with tomcat 5.5 yet.
I'm trying to move from tomcat 5.0.25 to 5.5.4 and my JSF webapps have not liked the move at all.
The classpath doesn't seem to be a problem as I have all the .jars that are required in the classpath of tomcat just like before.
I see the error log in stdout.log (catalina.out on linux) have been reduced to only show the precise error. Or at least is seems at lot easier to read.
    My error is simply
    SEVERE: Error listenerStart
SEVERE: Context startup failed due to previous errors
I reverted back to using the examples provided like jsf-guessNumber and the car-demo but neither of these will start-up.
This issue seems to have occurred to lots of other people previously but I couldn't find a particular fix or direct compatability issue with tomcat.
    Has anyone encountered this before?

    Back again,
Allright well after a little thought I concluded that this issue had to be some to do with the classpath and the changes between the two tomcat versions.
    I had a look at
    http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/tomcat-5.5-doc/RELEASE-NOTES.txt
and noticed that tomcat 5.5 leaves out some important .jar as they are only needed for java 1.4.
    -------------------- EXTRACT ------------------------
Installing the compatibility package will add the following to the list, which are
needed when running on J2SE 1.4:
    * jmx.jar (Java Management Extensions API 1.2 or later)
    * xercesImpl.jar (Xerces XML Parser, version 2.6.2 or later)
    --------------------END EXTRACT ------------------------
Therefore I tried putting xercexImpl.jar back onto the tomcat classpath and JSF works once again.
    Ah what a relief.

  • Has anyone had any luck returning there iMac w/ Lion? I couldn't even reconnect back to the iternet tonight w/o restarting my new iMac....  Looks like folks have been having this problem for months

Has anyone had any luck returning their iMac w/ Lion? I couldn't even reconnect back to the iternet tonight w/o restarting my new iMac....  Looks like folks have been having this problem for months & months .. The Apple tech told me that all I could do is wait for Apple to come up with a fix... Got a new router this week so that isnt' it.  Would I be better off w/o this until Apple gets their act together?  I downloaded the combo update 10.7.3 & it helped for about a day...  yesterday I still had to manually reset the connection but now it's resorting back to disconnectiong w/o fully going into sleep mode first.  Sorry to say this is a major lemon.  Help!

Seems unfair... I thought I was probalby having a router problem...  got a new router this week. Thst's when we realized we have a computer problem.  My next door nieghbor got zero sleep staying up all night while trying to help us figure out what the problem could be. He said if it were him he would have returned the iMac / Lion.  Got the new iMac w/ Lion for Christmas but didn't realize until this week that Apple is the problem....  Hard to believe that Apple just has kept on selling this like ... oh  No problem!  Can't stay on the internet... but will sell you another one today!  I'm getting mad...  It's not every day we spend that kind of money on a computer .  & ALL they can give us is that LOUSY Lion combo update.  I can't even stay connected long enough to make a vitamin order with Puritan's Pride...  & then the disconnection wipes out my cart... so I have to  start over. When are they going to fix this!   'Not feeling very positive'.  I feel like Apple KNOWINGLY sold my husband a defective... system.  14 days... oh please...

  • Has anyone who has reinstalled Lion got iLife back afterwards?

Surely by purchasing the MBP 2011 I have purchased the iLife suite also? 'Recovery' would suggest you get back what you had originally - has anyone managed to do this? I am aware that a lot of people have had this issue, I am wondering if I am going to jump through a succession of hoops to then pay for the software that I bought the computer in order to use!
If anyone has managed it without buying it again, I would love to know how you did it so I can go directly to that solution - One hoop will be enough if possible.
    Thanks in advance

If you look in the App Store for your iLfe apps, do they show as installed or download instead of a price? Are they listed in the Purchases section? if they are then you canre-install them at any time for no cost.

  • Since the Mountain Lion OS update today I've had issues with internet connection and e-mail, has anyone else?

Since the Mountain Lion OS update today I've had issues with internet connection and e-mail, has anyone else?

That's what I would have thought, but even after saving the setting, as soon as I shut down my computer or log out of Mail, it automatically defaults back to 25. It's a bit frustrating.
Now I just need to figure out how to get rid of those horrible pop-up banners but still have my glass sound and number of emails in the red dot when I get an email...
These little tweaks are the only thing I HATE about upgrading my OS.

  • Has anyone got AST to work on a Lion Server?

For the Apple Service Providers we need to run Apple Service Toolkit from a server. Has anyone gottten AST to work on a Lion Server? We have 3 locations and have all tried and have gotten different out comes but none have worked. We have chatted with Apple Service with no help.

I have it installed on a Lion server machine and the only way I have been able to get the client machines to see it was to plug both the server machine and the client into the same switch. Netbooting across subnets seems almost impossible.
I am also waiting to hear back from the AST support people because now, when I netboot a client machine to the gateway, it says "There is a problem with the Gateway Manager." When I log into the server and open Gateway Manager, it just sits there forever saying "Looking for gateway controller."
Currently I'm running AST 1.0.9 and I understand that version 1.1.1 is actually the latest, but I cannot find it ANYWHERE on Apple's site nor in GSX. In fact, since they switched over to the new GSX domain, the ONLY thing I can find related to AST is a small article describing how it works. No downloads, no links, no nothing.
Any idea where to find the latest version? I can't even find a link to it with a simple Google search. The AST support guy said to search within GSX, which found nothing but the article I mentioned.
