Has anyone come up with criteria on who should have an iPad at work?

I'm in health care as well...the executives will probably be the first to get them since they are the ones that sign the invoices.....but seriously the iPad has  a number of uses in health care...patient education, display of real time clinical data through a vpn connection and in-house apps, desktop virtualization etc.  I really believe if you can get the devices in the hands of clinicians, they will think of innovative ways to use them for far more than email, contacts, calendars etc....

    Please don't type in all caps, it is considered shouting and rude. I'm sure that wasn't your intention, it's just good netiquette.
    Anyhow the iMac will put out 5.1 sound assuming that is what you are trying to do. I recommend you find a cable similar to this:

  • Has anyone come up with a solution for the WD Passport and Mavericks OSX issues yet?

    I was wondering if anyone has come up with a solution for the newer Macbook Pro/Mavericks and external WD Passport not mounting problems?
    I have a couple of year old WD Passport that worked fine in my old 2009 Macbook Pro, the problem is the old computer crashed.
    My dilemna; My new 2014 Mackbook Pro will not open my WD Passport, called WD Support, their answer, sorry, nothing has been solved.
    Is there anyway I can get access to my files on the Passport with any other software, or by using a PC.
    I am aware of reformatting the HD, and have read all the forums I could find and have tried installing the WD Update as well, (with the support tech from WD) and nothing works.
    I know that my WD Passport works, so please don't suggest checking it, or the cord.
    I appreciate all the help anyone can offer, and I am with all the rest of you struggling for solutions.
    Thanks so much

    Hi everyone, this is what I did
    1. upgrade disks to the latest firmware
    2. de-install ntfs-3g and MacFuse.
    3. Re-install NTFS 3G  without Macfuse.
    4. Next step: Install OSXFUSE latest version with selection MacFUSE compatibility layer.
    5. Last step: Install Fuse Wait
    Note: between steps 2 and 5, I restarted my machine.
    It worked for me, after about 4 hours.

  • Has anyone come up with a way to stop Earpods falling out?

    Apparently (according to the Ad) these Earpods are actually designed for all ears. Though they sound pretty good, actually comparable to my old Bose IE2 headphones, sadly, they just fall out. One ear is worse than the other but essentially unusable. There must be a way to put them in a silicon cover thing like the Bose. Just hope Apple do as I have read quite a few posts already, to be fair, trade descriptions are being contravened. I’d understand if I had mutated ‘lugholes’ but they really aren’t

    I have worked out way of modifying the earpods so they don't fall out. I cut 4-5mm off the big ends of some ear plugs, punched holes in them with a ring-binder paper punch then glued them to the tips of the earpods with loctite 406 (a superglue type of adhesive that works with some plastics). Only use a small amount of the glue though or the ear plugs will soak it up and get too hard to be comfortable. When the glue has set, compress the earplug material as much as possible, then push the earpod ito your ear and hold it in place for 30 seconds or so to let the foam expand, then the earpod won't keep falling out.

  • Has anyone come up with new workarounds for Logic routing bugs?

    There have been many threads regarding what seem to be a set of similar bugs. These inlude an audio intrument not sounding after a while, or a channel of automation not being read; and the problem is easily fixed by closing and re-opening the song. That would be a fine workaround except that some songs take a long time to load. I used to have these problems occasionally, but recently they have become so common as to be almost constant. That's bad news, but it also is potentially good news since it means that something in my system has an influence on these bugs. I haven't found a thread in which anyone isolated a factor that helps or hurts, but it's hard to imagine all the keywords for this set of problems, so maybe I missed an idea.
    Also a new similar bug has started appearing in my system. When I add a bus send, once in a while either some or all audio channels will go silent, even though the graphic indicators indicate that they should be heard. The silent channels might or might not include the one with the new bus send. Remove the bus send and the sound comes back.
    It seems as though changes in routing have binding problems.
    Thanks for any ideas!

    Absolutely no ideas on workarounds. I have the exact same issues.
    Most of the time restarting the computer and session will cure them, but there have been projects where no matter what I do, the faders will not follow the automation data and EXS24 instruments cut out at the same exact time in the arrangement. This occurs even with as few as 6 EXS24 instruments open when on some projects I have up to about 85 open and 30 streaming at the same before I get a CoreAudio error.
    Terrible...terrible.
    Any word on whether or not 7.2 addresses this issues?

  • Has anyone come up with a solution on why the red circle with question mark inside appears.

    Has a solution been brought

    Could the problem be that you're trying to make a template that includes assignments and placeholder frames? Because that won't work ... sorry, would be nice if it could.
    You will get a missing assignment icon if you move the InDesign file, duplicate it, or rename it via a Save As. That's because assignments are actually attributes of the original file -- they are NOT linked -- and they don't stick with it when the original file is modified (other than normal "Save's"). The time to create assignments is when the live "final" file (even if it's filled with empty frames) has been created for that specific publication/issue, and it will not be moved or renamed during the production cycle.
    So if you're doing what I'm guessing ...  if you start w/an InDesign file, create assignments and assign empty text frames, and save that as a template  ... then you will always end up with "missing" assignments. That's because a template file, when double-clicked, creates an Untitled copy of itself.
    "I am getting the missing link for the assignments after they are finished."  If an assignment -- an ICMA file, not the linked stories, the ICML files -- shows the red "missing" icons in the assignments panel, the only solution is to recreate them. They are not linked to the layout so there is nothing to relink.
    The fix is to select each missign Assignment in the Assignments panel and choose Change Location. It's a bizarre name for the actual function which is  to "recreate the Assignment." Be careful of the linked ICML files that go along with that layout (and those assignments).
    You will also run into problems if you try to re-use the same linked ICML files for multiple issues. Best to start with a "normal" INDD file, then export Assignments/linked stories for that one issue.  When you're done, unlink all the stories and delete the Assignments, turning it back into a normal INDD file.  That normal file is safe to duplicate and use as a starting point for the next issue.

  • Has anyone come up with a step by step procedure to upgrade from RH 6 for Word to RH8?

    All my projects were made using Word 2003 and RH6 or RH4. We just upgraded to RH8, and I am getting all kind of errors. We followed the advice given in the forum, and deleted all the dot files. It got rid of the DLL message (error 49), but all the text and topics disappeared. The project opens to a blank document.
    We still have Word 2003, and do not want to upgrade.
    I do need some concrete advice urgently.
    Thanks

    The procedure does not state to delete ALL copies of the templates, those in Program Files are required.
    Did you delete the files from Program Files?
    Do you have those templates somewhere you can restore them?
    Did you have a copy of the templates in the project?
    Do you have a copy of the project from before you upgraded?

    Oh no, Robinbird18! This is not what we like to hear about your cell phone. It makes it pretty hard to have a conversation with someone when you can't hear them. If you make a phone call out are you able to have a conversation with someone without any issues? How long has this been going on? • Has anyone used JAAS with WebLogic?

    Has anyone used JAAS with Weblogic? I was looking at their example, and I have a bunch of questions about it. Here goes:
    Basically the problem is this: the plug-in LoginModule model of JAAS used in WebLogic (with EJB Servers) seems to allow clients to falsely authenticate.
    Let me give you a little background on what brought me to this. You can find the WebLogic JAAS example (to which I refer below) in the pdf: http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs61/pdf/security.pdf . (I believe you want pages 64-74) WebLogic, I believe goes about this all wrong. They allow the client to use their own LoginModules, as well as CallBackHandlers. This is dangerous, as it allows them to get a reference (in the module) to the LoginContext's Subject and authenticate themselves (i.e. associate a Principal with the subject). As we know from JAAS, the way AccessController checks permissions is by looking at the Principal in the Subject and seeing if that Principal is granted the permission in the "policy" file (or by checking with the Policy class). What it does NOT do, is see if that Subject
    has the right to hold that Principal. Rather, it assumes the Subject is authenticated.
    So a user who is allowed to use their own Module (as WebLogic's example shows) could do something like:
    //THEIR LOGIN MODULE (SOME CODE CUT-OUT FOR BREVITY)
    public class BasicModule implements LoginModule
    private NameCallback strName;
    private PasswordCallback strPass;
    private CallbackHandler myCB;
    private Subject subj;
             //INITIALIZE THIS MODULE
               public void initialize(Subject subject, CallbackHandler callbackHandler, Map sharedState, Map options)
                      try
                           //SET SUBJECT
                             subj = subject;  //NOTE: THIS GIVES YOU REFERENCE
    TO LOGIN CONTEXT'S SUBJECT
                                                     // AND ALLOWS YOU TO PASS
    IT BACK TO THE LOGIN CONTEXT
                           //SET CALLBACKHANDLERS
                             strName = new NameCallback("Your Name: ");
                             strPass = new PasswordCallback("Password:", false);
                             Callback[] cb = { strName, strPass };
                           //HANDLE THE CALLBACKS
                             callbackHandler.handle(cb);
                      } catch (Exception e) { System.out.println(e); }
         //LOG THE USER IN
           public boolean login() throws LoginException
              //TEST TO SEE IF SUBJECT HOLDS ANYTHING YET
              System.out.println( "PRIOR TO AUTHENTICATION, SUBJECT HOLDS: " +
    subj.getPrincipals().size() + " Principals");
              //SUBJECT AUTHENTICATED - BECAUSE SUBJECT NOW HOLDS THE PRINCIPAL
               MyPrincipal m = new MyPrincipal("Admin");
               subj.getPrincipals().add(m);
               return true;
             public boolean commit() throws LoginException
                   return true;
        }(Sorry for all that code)
    I tested the above code, and it fully associates the Subject (and its principal) with the LoginContext. So my question is, where in the process (and code) can we put the LoginContext and Modules so that a client cannot
    do this? With the above example, there is no Security. (a call to: myLoginContext.getSubject().doAs(...) will work)
    I think the key here is to understand JAAS's plug-in security model to mean:
    (Below are my words)
    The point of JAAS is to allow an application to use different ways of authenticating without changing the application's code, but NOT to allow the user to authenticate however they want.
    In WebLogic's example, they unfortunately seem to have used the latter understanding, i.e. "allow the user to authenticate however they want."
    That, as I think I've shown, is not security. So how do we solve this? We need to put JAAS on the server side (with no direct JAAS client-side), and that includes the LoginModules as well as LoginContext. So for an EJB Server this means that the same internal permission
    checking code can be used regardless of whether a client connects through
    RMI/RMI-IIOP/JEREMIE (etc). It does NOT mean that the client gets to choose
    how they authenticate (except by choosing YOUR set ways).
    Before we even deal with a serialized subject, we need to see how JAAS can
    even be used on the back-end of an RMI (RMI-IIOP/JEREMIE) application.
    I think what needs to be done, is the client needs to have the stubs for our
    LoginModule, LoginContext, CallBackHandler, CallBacks. Then they can put
    their info into those, and everything is handled server-side. So they may
    not even need to send a Subject across anyways (but they may want to as
    well).
    Please let me know if anyone sees this problem too, or if I am just completely
    off track with this one. I think figuring out how to do JAAS as though
    everything were local, and then putting RMI (or whatever) on top is the
    first thing to tackle.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
    Don't download MacKeeper. Users complain about this app and it damages OS X. Also, Mac OS X knows how to take care of itself, so you don't need any other cleaning application that may damage OS X. See > https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3691

  • Has anyone had issues with Administration\Data Import/Export\Data Import???

    Has anyone had issues with Administration\Data Import/Export\Data Import???
    I have a client who has recently upgraded from V2007 to V8.81. They were succesfuly  using this standard function to import supplier prices to their master price list, but now it has failed?
    I have looked at the file they are importing and it appears to be fine.
    On closer inspection, it did contain approx 46,000 entries, so I took the first 1,000 and created a test file, which imported fine.
    The only issue I found was Speed, with the test file of 1,000 records taking about 30 Mins to import. This appeared to get slower and slower the further through the file it got!
    Based on this, I have estimated that the whole file would takle about 13 hours to import. The client say that when they used to run it on version 2007 it was far quicker?
    In practice, it does appear to run, but the speed is the issue. Having said this, I set the whole file to run last night (over night)and this morning it had appeared to hang after about 2,307 rows, with nothing else being updated.
    Has anyone any ideas or is aware of performance issues like this?
    Thanks,
    Ian

    Always an option, but would you give your clients access to this tool?
    Not sure really.
    I have uploaded a copy of their database onto my test system and run the same routine. Its equally as SLOW
    I can't gauage if its an issue with 8.81 that 2007 didn't have, as I only have the client's word on it, however I have no reason to disbelieve them.
    Kind regards,
    Ian
