Has anyone ever encountered a "shockwave player error" window when deleting cookies in Safari preferences under privacy?
This window appears multiple times whenever I try to delete cookies. This afternoon, on the amazon.com site, the window kept opening and would not allow me to do anything else. I had to shut down my iMac and restart several times before I could get it working again. I have had this problem for a couple of years now(even when I was running previous operating systems). What is the deal here, and can it be fixed?
I was having the same problem after updating to the Safari 5.1.2 and noticed, also, that the cookies wren't really clearing... after opening preferences again (after clearing them), there would be a few that would be added back.
I think it's all related to a cookie issue that started with the safari update.
I went back to Safari 5.05 using Pacifier as it wouldn't install under Leopard 10.6.8 which I am running.

Has anyone ever been able to get a Windows VPN to work on Airport Express?
I've got an Aiport Express hooked up as my primary router for my home network. My laptop is running Windows XP and I'm using SafeNet as the VPN client. When I use any PC based router and open port 500 I cang et the VPN to work no problem. As soon as I started using the Airpot, I can get the initial authentication to work, but all secured data packets keep getting dropped. I have a feeling it's because UDP port 500 isn't being passed through (though apple's documentation says VPN passthrough is supported), but I'm not sure.
I've seen a number of people with the same problem, but I haven't seen anyone get it to work. Has anyone been able to do this using IPSEC based VPN?

DaveI'm an IT guy myself, with quite a bit of VPN experience under my belt, and I've thrown everything I know at the Airport with no success. I have a feeling the problem could be one of two things.
1. The port forwarding feature is TCP only (ipsec needs 500 UDP)
2. The VPN passthrough function is interfering with PC based VPN, and has only been tested with Apple VPN software.
Has anyone tried contacting Apple support with this issue? Any official responses? -
Has anyone ever encountered layer blend modes behaving strangely?
I use photoshop quite a bit for retouching and photo compositing. Tonight I encountered a strange problem. I was trying to create a vintage look on a photo and had a number of adjustment layers including a curves, levels, color fill and there were also a few texture/noise layers all set to varying opacities. Near the top of all this I had a vignette layer that was black around the edges and white in the center set to blend mode of multiply. Well, when I was clicking on and off I realize that that vignette layer was definitely lightening the center part of the overall image quite a bit (the part that is white on the vignette layer), almost like a screen. So I flipped the vignette layer through different opacity modes and saw that there was no change in its behavior, every mode was screening the white, even darker color and multiply. I thought maybe it was interacting in a weird way with one of the other layers so I turned all the others off except the back ground-- still no change. Then I dropped the layer down one at time until it was below the background. When I started to move it up again, it was behaving normally for a moment until I moved it up a couple levels in the stacking order and then it went back to the screen behavior. Anyway I shuffled it around a bit but there was no consitency to when it would display the correct opacity and when it wouldn't, so it did not seem to be an interaction with any specific layer. I don't know, but I can't really think of any case where white set to multiply should produce a lighter result even if it were interacting with another opacity. In any case it does seem to me that there is something going on with the overall computation of opacities. I tried creating a new black and white layer and it was also doing the same thing, behaving strange and not displaying the correct opacity.
I'm tired, so I'm going to bed. I'm going to shut off the computer and hope this goes away when I reboot, but if it does not, does this sound familiar to anyone? I'm not a regular visitor to this forum, but I thought I'd put it out there in case anyone else has experienced anything like this. I've only got 5 gigs of ram on this computer and I've been working away for a while... maybe photoshop just couldn't keep up(?) I'm using Photoshop CS5, RGB Adobe 1998 colorspace. I've never had anything like this happen in the last 11 years I've been using photoshop. Hmmm.... hope I don't have to reinstall or call support or worse. fingers crossed.Nevermind. It is still having the problem. I have to think that this file is just corrupt somehow because I just opened another file and can't seem to cause the same problem. Basically, I can fill a layer with white, put it to a blend mode of multiply or darker color and it will block out everything of the image below, ie totally opaque. The opaqueness varies depending on the if there are other layers also on blend modes, but it does not seem to correspond to normal blend mode interaction. If I put it right on top of a regular layer with an image on it, it totally blocks it out on a blend mode of multiply... weird. I am going to scrap this file and see if the problem recurs in other files. My 2006 Mac Pro is getting some years on it and has been running pretty slow. I'm not a hardware expert but I've done everything I know how to do to maintain it. Was thinking of upping the ram to see if I can hold out a bit longer before I upgrade the computer. Wouldn't surprise me if this problem is related to the computer.

and click on 'Disable Fan-Trap Detection'
I think it prevents you from creating Cartesian results.
If this doesn't work, then when you select a column you must select
and aggregated attribute like SUM instead of DETAIL.
The first solution should work. It might be clicked on by default in Desktop but in Viewer it isn't. -
I'm having issues when loading something in a relative path through a script, on my computer I have no issues, but on 2 other devices at work, it's not working. Even at home on a PC and mac I haven't run into problems, anyone have insight on this?

It's loading this in the same path another script is called from. Thoughts?I remembered we have weird permission issues at work. Somewhere between my Home Windows 8 machine(horrible permissions issues with network), my home mac, email and my work computer, some permission got out of whack. The workaround for this was copying the file to my desktop, back to the exact same spot on the network. This resolved all issues.

I have been receiving the shut down signal continually every ~6 minutes now for two weeks. Apple care is unable to fix the problem....did the OS reload, and other permissions fixs without success......any help is appreciated.
We did the typical diagnostics with everything coming back clean after the first run of disc repairs. I also ran Onyx with no problems discoverd. Did a number of reboots and Pram reboots and finally reloaded the OS. They suggested that we completely wipe the drive and start fresh with a time machine backup. However this would take hours so........ any other option is preferable and I think our reload off the time machine will restart the problem.

I get the following error message after installing the latest version of itunes via auto update: "the itunes Library file cannot be saved. An unknown error occurred (-54). Has anyone ever seen this message and anyone have a suggestion what to do?

When I try to open a document created in Pages, I get an error message saying "[Document Name" can't be opened." I don't want to lose hours of work; has anyone else encountered this?
A few general trouble shooting tips that may apply here:
1. If you used Software Update to do the OS update(s) to reach 10.6.7, go to http://support.apple.com/downloads/ and download and apply the Mac OS v10.6.7 Combo Updater. The Combo Updater contains some fixes that were not included in the incremental updaters used by Software Update.
1a. Check that you have the current version of Pages (and of the other iWork applications) installed. All three applications' current version numbers end in .0.5
2. A common cause of malfunctioning applications is a corrupted preferences file (.plist file). Your Pages '09's plist is at yourname > Library > Preferences > com.apple.iWork.pages.plist
Quit Pages, locate the file and Drag it to the Desktop (or to the Trash).
Restart Pages and attempt to open one of the files.
If all is well, Trash the plist file and empty the Trash.
If there's no change, AND you've made changes to the Preferences that you wish to keep, drag the file back to its previous location, replacing any new one that has been created.

Has anyone ever seen this error
We just launched a vaccation tracking app with a coldfusion
front end and an access 97 backend (dont ask). The app was tested
for over a month and passed all tests. However we never tested for
volume, or amount of users hitting the app. On the backend, we have
an access table linked to a text file. Again, this tested out
perfectly over the past month. This morning after release to the
entire company of about 2,000 people, users began reporting this
error:
The text file specification 'EmployeeList Link
Specification6' does not exist. You cannot import, export, or link
using the specification.
Some users logged in to the app successfully and some
recieved this error. For those that recieved the error, we had them
back out and re-login and then the app worked just fine.

The right way would be to use a "real" database server.
But you can test if db-caching can improve the issue.
With each <cfquery> you can set a cachedwithin
parameter. Using that should allow you to query the Access db once,
and then have CF keep the query results in memory (for the DB as
well as the text-file).
You could query the complete database with no filtering this
way, and then filter the data using QueryofQuery to output only
records for specific users/groups/regions.
You also need to make sure the settings in CF admin are
configured right for this.
The more often the database content is updated, the slower
this solution will get though.

ps. for the cachedwithin parameter in the query set a
timeframe of forever, so the recordset never gets updated, and then
actually execute a new query to update the recordset at the end of
your "save a vacation" or "updated a vacation" functions. This way
the app would only read the db when a real change to the records
occurred.
But like I said with 2000 users, even that may not be enough
to get the app performing. -

Shockwave player error asks to use Safari 32 bit
I was clearing out my cookies under Safari preferences today and when I highlight a cookie I want to remove from the list and click REMOVE, a window opens that says I have a Shockwave Player error and that I need to reopen Safari in 32-bit mode.
QUESTION: Why is this happening, has anyone else had this issue? Also, what are the advantages or disadvantages of 64/32 bit modes on Safari? Is there a Shockwave that runs in 64-bit mode?
