Has anyone got PPTP VPN to work on Lion Server?

Has anyone got PPTP VPN to work on Lion Server?
I had a go with the terminal commnds posted by apple support but no joy. Since then Apple has pulled the suport article - is it because it didn't work?
I get PPTP is less secure but PPTP seems to be more reliable don't know whey they can't keep as GUI. I've got them both running on our 10.4 server and L2TP stoped allowing connections for no reason PPTP was still working L2TP started working again on its own. Plus L2TP drops my connection when I connect with a 2nd device e.g connected with my Macbook connect with my iPhone (different username) it drops my Macbook.
Any advice getting PPTP to work on Lion Server would be appreciated
Thanks
Ben

Hi,
I have posted a bugreport on this issue to Apple. Currently (10.7.2) it is not possible to run PPTP on any Mac OS X Server when using a 10.7 Server as Directory Server.
I have tried 'everything', but the MPPE encryption mechanism seems to be broken.
Edit: I see now that the bugreport is filed as a duplicate to an older case, which is now closed. I hope this means they have found the problem and will release a fix in the next update.

  • Has anyone got cn8202temp_controller.vi to work?

    Hello,
Has anyone got cn8202temp_controller.vi to work. I got it from the Ni website and I've been unable to get it to run right. If there is anyone out there that has got it to work please tell me how you did it. It has an error when you upload the parameters for the recipe. I have enclosed the vi if you want to take a look.

    Hey Jordan,
Thanks for responding. The recipe I am using is start from room temperature (20ºC), ramp up to 100 ºC over a period of 15 minutes, remain there for 10 minutes, and then ramp up to 1200ºC over a period of 110 minutes, remain for 10 minutes, then ramp down to 20ºC over a period of 280 minutes. I ran through all the string codes in the program and the only two I can't validate is Run Recipe string $0101W065.0000G2 and the cancel recipe string $0101W063.0000G0
I called and sent emails to Omega on this issue and their response is that they don’t do third party programming. I was hoping that by posting it on here that someone may have used the program and could confirm if it works or not and if it didn’t work could possible tell me what needs to be changed. I’m really beating my head against the wall here and use help from anyone.
    Thanks again.

  • Has anyone got the B500 to work with Ubuntu? (nvidia driver problems)

In two weeks, I have been completely unable to get the nvidia driver working with the B500 on Linux. No matter what I try to do, the X server doesn't start, and my /var/log/Xorg.0.log file ends with "fatal server error: no screens found." I have tried feeding a custom modeline to xorg.conf, explicitly calling an EDID file which I extracted from the Windows installation, using the upstream nvidia driver installer, using the official repository driver, and probably a bunch of other stuff that I'm not recalling right now.
    Versions I've tried this on:
    Kubuntu 10.04, 32- and 64-bit
    Ubuntu 10.04, 32-bit
    Kubuntu 9.10, 32-and 64-bit
I am stumped. Has anyone successfully gotten this to work?
    best,
    -p.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Solved with the kind assistance of paulricardomc on the Ubuntu Forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1477507
    Short version of the fix:
    1. Extract the edid from the Windows partition using softMCCS, saving as edid.bin
    2. Save the edid.bin file in /etc/X11 (or wherever you like)
    3. Include the following in the device section of your xorg.conf:
    "Option"  "ConnectedMonitor" "DFP-0"
    "Option" "CustomEDID" "DFP-0:/etc/X11/edid.bin"
Fire up X and you're good to go.

  • Has anyone got BTCONNET (POP) mail working?

I already posted this in the touch forum, but after doing a bit of searching, realised that there is a specific forum for 'mail' under the iPhone section, so I am posting it here instead.
I have had my Touch for just over a week and all is well, except MAIL. I just can't get it to work with my BTCONNECT (POP) account..
I managed to get OUTGOING mails working.. But incoming is not working.. I get an error saying that it can't connect to my SMTP address. I have read a ton of posts from Google and tried everything, but its still not working...
My outgoing address is "smtp.btconnect.com", but I found a page from Apple themselves say that it should be "smtp.o2.co.uk", but this doesn't work.. To be honest, I don't see why it would, as this is a Touch not an iPhone (but the doc says that its for both), but I tried it never the less.
I did find one post from someone who had this problem and used iTunes to 'sync' his mail account.. I hoped this would work, but when i tried, nothing happened.. I even deleted my account from the Touch, selected my Outlook account under iTunes and did Sync. Whilst iTunes says its done it.. Nothing happens.
I should point out that for this test, I am at home, using the same connection that my Laptop (Which is able to send/recieve mail) is on.
I am starting to think I am wasting my time and just wondered if anyone in the UK has sucessfully got BTCONNECT mail working?
My fingers are crossed that someone can help
    Jon

Just a note to everyone to thank you for your help and let you know that I cracked it. I figured I should post, incase anyone comes looking for a solution (I just wished I had not spelt BTCONNECT, BTCONNET in the title).
I stumbled upon a post on another forum from a guy who claims to have it working and has helped others.. I got in contact with him and he has shown me what he has done. It looks like there is a quirk (I would call it a bug) in the way that the iPhone/Touch handles SMTP.
It turns out that for BTCONNECT (And I suspect others) to work, you need OTHER SMTP servers in the list.. Even if they are not right.. withouth them, it simply doens't work.. But as soon as you add 2 'others' it just magically works.
The best way to get BTCONNECT mail working is like this:
    1. Disable Wifi
    2. Delete existing accounts
    3. Add new 'Other' account
    4. Enter the following (Using a made up name as an example):
    Name: Your Name
    Address: [email protected]
    Password: <Your Password>
    5. Save
    6. Select 'POP'
    7. Add Incoming Server Details:
    Host Name: pop3.btconnect.com
    User Name: john.smith
    Password: <Your Password>
    8. Add Outgoing Server Details
    Host Name: smtp.btconnect.com
    User Name: Leave Optional
    User Name: Leave Optional
    9. Save
Now at this point, it goes off to verify SMTP info and will fail (not only becuase WiFi is off, but it fails even if Wifi is ON). You now get asked whether you want to try turning SSL on.. If you hit NO, it goes off and tries again and never finishes.. If you say YES it ends with an error.. But alteast you can save it.
The point is, just say YES and then you will get a option to Save.
    10. Now you have saved, go back into your mail config and select the Primary Outgoing Server.. Here you want to change/verify:
    SSL = OFF
    Authenitication: Password
    Port = 25
    11. At this point it should work.. And I got here on my own many times and it doesn't.. What you need to do is adds some 'other SMTP servers'.
I was given the advice to add "mail.btinternet.com", but my conclusion is that it doens't matter... On mine, I now have 2 "other" addresses (both pointing to SMTP.BTCONNECT.COM).. If I go into them, they are wrong, as SSL = ON and worse, they are grey so I can't change them or delete them.
I got it in this state after a lot of playing, and I know its not right, but since mine is working, I am not changing it.
This is the area you want to focus on.. You need to get 1 x Primary Server (SMTP.BTCONNECT.COM) and 2 x 'other' Servers (Point them to SMTP.BTINTERNET.COM if you like).
I don't know why.. I don't know how but this works!!
If I write a mail and send it, it goes instantly.. So you know that its working straight away..
Oh yes.. Turn WiFi on NOW, before you test.. I forgot at one point and almost gave up again...
I know this sounds stupid and you would think that it doesn't make any difference, but it does.. Not only did this work for me, but its also worked for several other people I know who also had problems getting SMTP working.
Good luck and I hope this helps someone
    Jon

  • Has anyone got OA Framework Tutorial working on R12 Jdev 10g?

I have successfully got the tutorial for OA Framework working on my Apps 11.5.10 install with very few problems.
I now have Apps R12 installed and have downloaded the correct Jdev 10g with OA Framework patch, but I am hitting some a number of errors. I can see that the tutorial code and documentation is the same as Jdev 9i, and has not been updated. Taking this in to account I am adapting the tutorial to the Jdev 10g, but I am hitting deployment problems in the local OC4J container, where AppsLogin is being requested and not found.
I therefore wonder whether anyone out there has got the tutorial to work in Jdev 10g?
I'm happy to try and figure it out for myself, but I would prefer to know that it is relatively straight forward to do.

Yes I'm getting the following error message:
oracle.apps.fnd.framework.OAException: Application: FND, Message Name: SECURITY_APPL_LOGIN_FAILED.
I have seen this elsewhere on the forum but they all relate to Jdev 9 on 11.5.10. I wanted to know whether anyone else had got OA framework tutorial working on R12 because then I know from that one fact whether it is possible on the code that Oracle has released; any problems I encounter are then likely to be setup/installation/config issues that I should be able to resolve myself.
I'm surprised that no one has yet just given me a 'yes' given the number of experienced developers on the forum.
BTW, the full stack trace is:

  • Native iOS L2TP VPN not working on Lion Server

    Hi Folks,
I have a very strange issue concerning making VPN work on two iOS devices I have. I have recently setup Lion Server on a MacMini here in the office with L2TP VPN using a shared secrert phrase and a password authentication.
I have Lion running on an a MacBook Air (which I setup VPN using the provisioning profile "VPN.mobileprovision") and Snow Leopard running on an iMac. (VPN was set up manually). Both systems have been tested to work both inside and outsideof my internal network as I have tested with an air card.
I also have an iPhone running 4.3.4/4.3.5 that I setup by emailing the provisioning profile and and iPad 1 running iOS 5 beta 4 setup with the vpn provisioning profile. Neither the iPad nor iPhone seem to work at all either internally nor externally. In fact I never see any activity in the vpnd.log when I attempt to connect to with these devices. All I get is the standard "The L2TP-VPN server did not respond. Try reconnecting. ..."
Based on my success with the OSX Clients both inside and outside my local network I feel it is safe to say that I do not think the issue resides on the Lion Server nor the network/firewall configuration. I am running a Time Capsule with FW 7.5.2/7.4.2. There was no change in behavior with either version of the Time capsule firmware for the clients whether they were OSX or iOS. I must be clearly missing something here and I don't know what. Any help any of you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Issue is resolved. I used the initial random generated shared secret that was generated by Lion Server. The shared secret has special characters. IOS did not like the special characters. See iPhone Console Log below:

That is why I never saw any attempt to connect. The actual process would bomb out before attempting to make a connection to the server.
    The shared secret key was:
    Y|WNwvM_O"?gLA$F@adT
Looks like it was the " or the ? symbols.
Once I changed the shared secret key the issue went away and the iPhone and iPad could connect to vpn without issue.
Figured I'd let you all know

  • Has anyone tried to get a refund for Lion Server yet?

It's clear why server is only $50 now.  Some of the new features looked very promising, but this product is completely crippled and dumbed-down compared to Snow Leopard Server.  Once I accepted the fact that it is not possible to upgrade an existing 10.6 server to 10.7, I gave up on that and simply tried to do a clean install and start over from scratch.  All I'm trying to do is set up a few network accounts that can connect to the iCal and Address Book services.  It simply does not work.  It is not possible to create an Open Directory master on 10.7 Server without some kind of failure along the way.  I have clean-installed 5 times now, and it just doesn't work.  Local users seem to work ok, but network users, which you must use if you want to work with the Profile Manager, simply do not work.
I am rolling back to my clone of 10.6 server now.  I am curious if anyone else has given up on 10.7 server and tried to get a refund from Apple yet, and if so, what the outcome was.

Yes, and I have received word that my credit card will be credited shortly.
I hope to be able to upgrade to Lion Server at some point but it is increasingly clear that Lion Server is not yet ready.

  • Has anyone got gma3650 or gma3600 working?

    Hi,
I'm currently considering buying this netbook:
    http://www.johnlewis.com/231577593/Product.aspx
It has the dreaded gma3650 chipset, which seems to cause lots of issues.  I have found this on the wiki:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Intel_gma3600
Just wanted to see if anyone else has got this working before I splash the cash.
    Many thanks in advance.

My advice... stay away. Far away. Fbdev doesn't give you any acceleration whatsoever. There's the emgd driver, but if you'll get that one to work is a very big *if*.

  • Has anyone got mental ray to work on qmaster?

I keep getting segment failed messages on some machines when i render mental ray it spends about half an hour rendering two tga frames which are only 4k and can't be opened, if i lower the resolution and set it only to do 10 frames it works, its got me flumuxed does anyone know is mental ray satellite any better. It works fine incidently if i render with software renderer. Incidently i know you have to put -r rm in the settings. but any ideas would be appreciated

ok got it to work easiest way is to make sure the shared drive is mounted on all machines and put all files i.e textures and mb file on there too and in the qmaster make sure you specify the working directory as the shared drive as well as the project directory

So, my question is, is there somebody out there who who has been migrated to the new BT Mail server and who can confirm they can still get their @btinternet.com address post-migration to work as Push mail on their iPhone or ipad devices?

There is no push mail on BTMail. Once you have been migrated to BTMail you will need to have your devices fetch emails. There is apparently no plans to change this.

  • Has anyone got Time Machine to work with Time Capsule?

I've been trying for days to do an initial backup without success. Everything seems to be working fine and then it just stops and says the backup has "failed." The last one went 24 hours and backed up about 90 GB before it just stopped. Then it has to start over, from the beginning. (This thing is so slow you'd think somebody was writing the files out in longhand!) I even moved my iMac into the room with the Time Capsule, which is actually pretty annoying, in case it was a case of a dropped signal.

    Hi,
I've spent hours and hours trying to get the harddisk to work properly. Set-up was easy-peasy and the Airport works great for the internet. However, when trying to use time-machine and the hard disk it was a nightmare !!! Each attempt at the back-up failed after about 4 gig with a 'unable to mount volume' error. If I re-tried, it failed. Following some of the tips on the forums, I deleted the back-up file created by time machine on the hard drive and the initial back-up started successfully but failed after about 4 gig again (I had 96 gig to back-up). There are various fixes flying around - ensure you have a name for your computer - should be short and no spaces or funny characters. Same goes for your name of the timecapsule. Some people are saying you should use an ethernet cable for your first back-up but that should not matter at all. I took mine back to the apple store in the end - a mac genius downloaded all the latest patches (only came out 19th march) for the time-capsule firmware, time machine software and airport express. Still didn't work, so conclusion was the time-capsule was knackered !!! SO MY RECOMMENDATION IS TO GET APPLE TO REPLACE IT BUT MAKE SURE YOU TRY THE ABOVE FIRST.
New time-capsule was attached to my imac, started up great first time. My initial back-up ran through perfectly first time through wireless - it took 15 hours but I did have 96 gig to back-up. time machine sees this no problem so it looks like everything is fine.
    Good luck !!

  • SECOND QUESTION - HAS ANYONE  GOT ELEMENTS EDITOR NOT WORKING - ON WINDOWS 8.1?

I Get message -  when i try to open elements 12 editor... a problem caused program to stop working correctly. Windows will close program and notify if a solution is available -- no response after 2 weeks - anyone help please? john reid

Microsoft advises that version 7 of PSE will work with Windows 8. The best option is a new computer with W8 and then do a clean install of Elements. Some difficulties may arise if upgrading the operating system on top of existing software. In those circumstances make sure you have your original disks or your download package, in case a re-install is necessary.
    Microsoft Windows 8 compatibility.

  • Has anyone got 3D turbo to work???

From what I have seen on this board no one has. If you have tell me how.

I have had it working without problems but each time I have had a fresh install of the OS or it was on an initial build of a system. There are incompatabilities that exist and there is a list of the supported cards in the "Sticky" "Bulletin" thread at the top of this section of the forum.
