  • Has anyone not working with .dv files had synchronization problems?

Has anyone not working with .dv files had sound synchronization problems? I'm not exactly sure what the alternatives to DV are, but I think one of them is HD.
The reason for asking this question is to help isolate the nature and cause of a very serious flaw in iMovie '11. In the original release of iMovie '11 (version 9.0) there was a small--but serious--synchronization problem. In the 9.01 there is a large synchronization problem. We know of one person who has not experienced the problem, and he is not working with DV files (media). So we want to find out if anyone who is using something other than .dv files is experiencing a lack of synchronization between sound and picture. Knowing the answer to this will help with figuring out where the cause lies. For the initial iMovie '11 release (9.0), you probably would not notice a problem unless you had very long event-clips, e.g., two hours long. Events get this long if you are transferring from analog 8 mm tapes. Even then, it would have to be in scenes in which the connection between event and sound is obvious, e.g., close ups of people talking. It isn't until the 9.01 release that most people would notice anything. All we need to do is establish one case of a synchronization problem in which the person is using something other than DV.

Hopefully, the 9.0.2 release will make my question moot. Zyfert must have posted the announcement of the release just as I was formulating my question. Still, if you have information on the subject, it would be interesting to hear.

Has anyone done work in LabVIEW with the LLRP protocol for RFID readers?  I've googled around and didn't find anything.

    Hi G-Money,
The communication will be over TCP-IP.
Thanks for your offer to help.  I don't really need assistance in figuring out how to communicate with the device in LabVIEW at a transport layer.  I'm just trying to take inventory on what's already been done, at a messaging protocol level, that could be useful as a reference or starting point.
    Thanks,

  • Has anyone used Toast 7.02 with Dual Layer media?

I bought a three-pack of Verbatim +R double layer discs just to experiment with (this is my first Mac with a DL burner). I've had some problems with Toast simply not responding but other than that occasional problem I've been able to burn Sony DVDs at 8x.
I'd like to try to burn one of the dual layers but I don't know if I should start with Toast or just create a burn folder or just let the OS do its thing or what.
Has anyone had experience with DL disks and Toast? The drive in my Intel iMac is a "MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-846" (I've heard that some iMacs have different mechanisms?)

Thanks - I'm going to give it a go today. Just from the general impression I have from numerous conversations and lurking around here and other sites there seems to be a growing consensus that Verbatim DVD media is the best (and possibly CD media as well). I usually tend to simply buy whatever is on sell in the week when I'm running low and Sony media has done well while with Maxell (usually the brand on sale!) I usually find a few clunkers in a spool (mind you this was with my MDD G4,and I had both slots tricked out with Pioneer 106's).
I'm going to go web crawling later today, too, to see what the best pricing is for Verbatim DL's - I paid $23 at Office Depot for three in jewel cases but it was the only DL packaging they had and I'm sure prices have come down! (One would think!)
I've been using 7.02 since its release in November (?) but, with Toast, I always make certain not to trash my old app so that I'll not need to fish out the CD should new versions emit flying insects. I DO wish Roxio would release Toast as a Universal app - and soon! I also may try going back to 7.01 to see if that might 'fix' the occasional freeze I'm getting.
Thanks so much for letting me know about your success with Toast and Verbatim +R DL media - I am almost borderline OCD about back-ups and the more I can fit on a single disc the merrier I will be!

  • Has anyone has experience with Tuxera NTFS for Mac?

Is Tuxera NTFS for Mac always uses uper 30% of CPU? I'm not sure if it's just my mind but my Mac runs quite hot. I wonder if it has anything to do with the tuxera_ntfs process that runs upper 30% to 50%. Is there a utility tool I can run to show me the termperation of this Macbook Air and whether the fan is high or low? Is there a way to manually run a process only when I need it instead of set to automatic launch when the computer is turned on?

Check the support section on the Tuxera web site.  I have never used this application.
FAT has 4GB size limitation that's why I do not want to use FAT.
Understood.  I am not challenging you, but usually an internal HDD is not formatted for Mac and Windows, external ones are.  I am curious as to your reasons.

  • Has anyone has developed a driver which uses labview to control an EPIX(R)D PCI Digital Video Capture Board?

We have an EPIX(R) D PCI Digital Video Capture Board from EPIX Inc. worked with Image Pro Plus and a
Kodak Megaplus 1.4 CCD Camera. This camera is an old model with Camera Control Unit. Now we use Excel Macro works with all of these software and hardware and the whole system works excellent. Now we intend to update the software to Labview 6.1, IMAQ vision builder and IMAQ vision. But we didn't find the driver to let Labview work with EPIX(R) D PCI Digital Video Capture Board. I have contactd Epix Inc. They said some customers have developed their own driver for labview and it works fine. But this company doesn't support this driver. It will be appreciated if anyone ca
n provide this driver for us. Thank you very much.

George. You probably don't have many options with the Epix board. However, if your Epix software enables you to save files to disk, then you can open them from LabVIEW and process them with Vision or Vision Builder.
Another option is to contact Graftek (www.graftek.com) or ImageMill (www.imagemill-tech.com). They have created drivers for third party image acquisition boards in the past and they may have one for your Epix board.
A third option, of course, is to upgrade your Epix board to an NI IMAQ board. Your sales contact within NI may even be able to give you a discount on the trade in, but I can't guarantee it.
    Good luck!

Meet with the person and have a look at the date on the battery. If it is over two years old, don't buy it.

  • PIX515e dual-stack ipv4 & ipv6 over PPPoE

    Hi Everyone,
In short: I am trying to get ipv4 and ipv6 over PPPoE running on my PIX515e.
Heres a bit more info about my setup and the scenario:
My internet provider (residential) has offered me a dual-stack service on my ADSL.
I get a STATIC ipv4 address, but a DYNAMIC ipv6 address. Additionally I get a STATIC ipv6 /56 prefix for my lan "if my router supports prefix delegation".
My PIX is the 515e and its running PIX 7.2(4) with ASDM 5.2.
Getting the ipv4 side of it working isnt an issue - ive configured the pppoe side of it with my username and password, and configured my outside interface (Ethernet 0) with the ipv4 address.
But I cannot figure out how to get a dynamic ipv6 address on the outside (Ethernet 0) interface.
At this stage all I care about is getting a dynamic ipv6 address on Ethernet 0. I dont care about the "lan" prefix or Prefix Delegation part of it because I figure I'll just NAT my lan ipv6 addresses out to the internet using the dyanmic ipv6 address on the outside interface.
Ive read a lot of articles and looked at a lot of examples but none quite explain what im trying to do.
I have enabled ipv6 on the outside interface - ipv6 enable
and ive looked at ipv6 address and ive found the autoconfigure option but that doesnt appear to fetch the ipv6 address from my internet provider.
I guess im expecting to see something like ipv6 address dhcp or ipv6 address pppoe
So my question is does anyone know how I can get dual-stack working on my outside interface with dynamically assigned ipv6 from pppoe.
Or do i need to update the PIX software on my device. If so, can anyone suggest which version?
    Any help is greately appreciated.

I wanted to provide an update on this topic.  It turns out the traffic class that I was testing with was overlapping another class's match statement, which had a much lower bandwidth percentage.
After making the corrections, it seems the IPv4 and IPv6 work very well together in the queues.  And now that you can run fair-queueing per class, I'm actually impressed with how well it is working.
Now if only I could classify traffic based on the number of packets/bytes seen in netflow.... then I could shape some really nice QoS policies!

  • PI 7.4 dual stack

    Dear experts,
I understood PI 7.4 SP06 can be installed on dual stack ABAP+Java. If this is the case, what about ccBPM/BPM scenarios ? can support both ? only nwBPM/ccBPM ?
what about NWDS present version ?
    Deva

    Hi Deva,
In case there you are making use of Dual stack PI you CCBPM scenarios will work same as earlier dual stack PI versions. In case of Dual stack it will still be PI and not PO as PO comprises of Lone Java PI+ N/W BPM+ BRM on one system.
Also if you want to make use of N/W BPM it has to be installed seperately. Ideally you should go for lone Java if you want to make use of N/W BPM to minimise your hardware requirements.
Also NWDS version has to be less than or equal to the PI version being used.

ok thanks, that's what I tought, looks like apple machines are only good for two - three years, the software developers are ahead of the hardware to a certain point, love macs but this is forcing us to buy new macs just to keep  up with development. There was a time it was the opposite.
By the time we get up on new stuff it's time to change again. Gotta be rich to deal with macs ...LOL

  • Certificates and Mail - has anyone got them to work recently?

    Hi,
I've been using Thawte digital certificates with Mail for almost three years and had no problems. Recently one of my certificates was due to expire, so I revoked it and got another one issued. The certificate is installed in my Keychain and everything looks to be correct - Keychain places a small green tick next to it and says 'This certificate is valid' and it is also ticked in the Address Book.
However, the option to sign and encrypt messages in Mail's compose window has vanished. I can't find a way of getting it to appear so it looks like Mail can't find the certificate.
I've quit Mail and reimported the certificate, no change. I've tried a self-certified certificate to see if that works - nothing.
A look on the forums suggests that a number of other people have had similar problems.
So has anyone found a workaround? This is quite important as I rely on signed email messages when working on large documents.
    Thanks,
    Mike.

This is from Mail Help, that perhaps you have not seen:
    "Signing and encrypting email messages
If you have a personal certificate on your computer, you can send signed messages (including the body of the message and any attachments) to anyone using Mail. Signed messages let your recipients verify your identity as the sender, and provide assurance that the message has not been tampered with in transit. A Signed icon (a checkmark) in the email header indicates your personal certificate is installed in Keychain Access.
Encrypted messages (which encrypt both the body of the message and any attachments) offer a higher level of security than just signed messages. You can only send encrypted messages when you have certificates stored on your computer for both you and all recipients of your message. The easiest way to get someone's certificate is to have them send you a signed email message. When you view a signed message, Mail automatically imports the person's certificate (or "public key") and stores it in your keychain. You'll know you have the recipient's personal certificate installed in Keychain Access if an Encrypt (closed lock) icon appears next to the Signed icon after you address a new mail message to that person.
To SIGN and ENCRYPT an email message:
Choose File > New Message. In the Account pop-up menu, choose the account for which you have a personal certificate installed in your keychain. A Signed (checkmark) icon on the upper-right side above the message text indicates the message will be signed when you send it. To send the message unsigned, click the Signed icon to deselect it. An unsigned ("x") icon replaces the checkmark.
Address the email. An Encrypt (closed lock) icon appears next to the Signed icon if you have a personal certificate for the recipient in your keychain and indicates the message will be encrypted when you send it. To send the message unencrypted, click the Encrypt icon to deselect it. An open lock icon replaces the closed lock icon.
For security, encrypted messages are saved in your Sent mailbox in an encrypted format.
If you don't have a certificate for all the recipients, a dialog appears that allows you to either cancel the delivery of the message or send the message unencrypted.
If your recipients are using Mail, security headers marked Signed and Encrypted are visible in the messages they receive. If they are using an application that doesn't use signed and encrypted messages, the certificate might be in the form of an attachment. If your recipients save the attachment as a file, they can add your certificate to their keychain.
Since many mailing lists reject signed messages (because the signature is an attachment), deselect the Signed icon before sending a message to a mailing list.

  • Itunes 8.1.1 dolby 5.1, has anyone out there had this work via optical...

I know Apple says you can rent HD movies with dolby 5.1 surround, but my questions is how do you know you are renting a HD rental as apposed to standard resolution. And can you get the 5.1 to playback using a mac not an apple tv.
On the store it shows HD for purchase, standard for purchase, and rental. I rented Saw 4 with those options listed and it was standard not HD and the surround sound was only playing in stereo. I know that in the past versions of itunes it can only playback 5.1 when using an apple tv but not with a mac.
I have my old G5 hooked to my Sony hd tv and the optical audio out going to my receiver. I know past verions of quicktime downstreams the 5.1 audio to stereo even though it has a 5.1 audio track. It is odd that is taking so long for 5.1 to come to quicktime, and itunes. Elgato's EyeTV software has been able to playback 5.1 and hd for years now. Quicktime player feels ancient to me. I know VLC can do 5.1 if you mess about with stuff but I don't want to be bothered with that.
Has anyone rented or purchased a movie and gotten 5.1 playback in itunes 8.1.1
I can't see spending 20 dollars ever to buy a movie because I just watch it once and move on to the next, so I don't want to spend the 20 for a hd movie just to find out if itunes can play the 5.1 via a mac or not. I did see when I updated to 8.1.1 that you had to have that version for HD rentals, I had 8.1 when I rented Saw 4.
Apple advertises 5.1 but they do not make it clear if it is only possible whith an apple tv. They advertise the new hd movies as having 5.1 but what good is that if it down streams it to stereo when using itunes and a mac.
I think the itunes store should be more forthright about what you are getting when renting a movie. I also think they should add book marking in itunes so you can bookmark a movie, or an app, or a music download so you can easily find it at a later date without having to search the store again. Why they don't just have a rental area is beyond me. I find it to be a real pain to find rentals because half the time the movies are just for purchase, they should split them movies for purchase or movies for rental areas on the store, and be able to bookmark them so you can just go and download movies you bookmarked when your ready to buy or rent. Sorry I want a little over the top but I would still like to know if anyone has used itunes 8.1.1 and gotten 5.1 playback via their mac.

So I guess only Apple TV can play the surround tracks not a mac which means nothing has changed with the update. I believe it's because quicktime has not been updated to play 5.1 and itunes uses quicktime for video playback. But I thought I saw an add saying hd with 5.1 with the new itunes but I guess it's just HD and no surround out of a mac. It really seems silly at this point. I stream eyetv hdtv recordings with full surround to my G5 that is wired to my HDTV from my computer upstairs or to my mac book pro and it works great. Streaming HD with full 5.1 surround on my local network is great. These are the original broadcast streams and there is a lot more data than Apples compressed h264 "hidef" videos. So what is holding apple back from doing this? Maybe the next version of quicktime will have 5.1 playback, let's hope so because Apple is way behind on this. I don't rent movies from the itunes store, because there is no 5.1 playback if there was I would.
I guess I will just stick with Netfilx dvd rentals for now. For being a cutting edge company and I do love apple products this one issue is really behind the ball. I guess they still want us all to buy an apple tv but the mini allows you to do so much more that for an extra 200 bucks especially with the new video card I would go for the mini. My old G5 1.8 dual does the job nicely but it is just fast enough to play hd 5.1 streams and a bit noisy, a mini would be more powerful and quieter.
One side note is that I was able to get my G5 which is hooked into the tv via dvi
to fit the tv's screen perfectly which was not easy because its native res is 728p not 720. This is a problem with most lower res hd tv's the manufactures did not go with 720 but went a little higher, so when you hook a computer up to it it either over scans the desktop so you can't see the menus or the dock or it underscans it and you get black around the desktop. I have an ati 800xt in my g5 and with ati's preference pane called ati displays, it allows you to resize your desktop to fit the screen I wish apple had this built into the system. It only works with certain ati video cards. I just read on another forum that 1080p tv's don't have this problem of over scanning because they are "1080p" so you can hook a mac up and the mac should fit it perfectly. Now I want a new mac mini and a 1080p tv. And so it goes....oh and 5.1 sound would be nice Apple!!!!

  • Has anyone installed a dual layer superdrive in early model imac g5?

    imac G5 1.8Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I bought a Panasonic UJ-845 DVD burner from OWC and installed it in my old iMac G5 1.8 ghz. There was a wee bit of minor work to replace it (you have to transfer the sled using a Torex wrench and have to remove and replace the plastic bezel.) Installation was simple and took only 15 min.
I ran it for a couple of days, removed it and returned it to OWC. Yes, it burned dual layer disks but was just as slooow as the original DVD drive. HORRIBLY SLOW!
I then bought an external Firewire DVD burner from OWC (Pioneer based drive). I'm very happy with the burn speeds on it for single and deal layer disks.
If you insist on an internal drive, remember the Panasonic UJ-845 drive is universal. ZipZoomFly.com has it listed at $89.99 with free shipping. (ZipZoomFly Part# 175300 ) That's $40 cheaper than the exact same drive that OWC sells.
    Good luck.
