Has anyone installed the samsung 840 pro in MBP mid 2009?

Hi All,
My macbook doesnt work anymore because the HDD gave up. I now ordered the samsung 840 pro ssd. My mbp doesn't start up anymore and all I can see is the file boz and a ? mark. I have the CD that came with the macbook. Is it hard to install the software or should I just take it to apple and let them do the job?
Also, I only bought the 128 GB since I cannot afford the 256g. I have a seagate 1 TB external hardrive. Can anyone please tell me what to do to set all downloads and other documents to save in the external so I am not using all the 128 g

JS28,
I installed a Samsung 840 PRO SSD in my Mid 2010 MacBook Pro. It’s not hard to install the software onto your SSD, though it will take some time to do so. I don’t know how much Apple would charge for that service, so the time vs. money tradeoff is something that you’ll need to decide.
If you decide to do it yourself, what you’ll need to do is to boot your MacBook Pro from the grey installation DVD marked “Mac OS X Install DVD” that originally came in the box with your MacBook Pro; to do that, hold down the C key as you power up. Once you’ve booted up from the DVD, you’ll need to run Disk Utility to format your SSD as “Mac OS Extended (Journaled)”. Once it’s been formatted, you can then install the version of Mac OS X that is on that DVD, either Leopard or Snow Leopard. Once your MacBook Pro’s original version of Mac OS X is installed on the SSD, you can then reboot from the SSD, and optionally install the iLife applications from the “Applications Install DVD” — the other grey installation DVD that came with your MacBook Pro.
Next, you’ll  need to upgrade or update your OS to Mac OS X 10.6.8, which in turn will allow you to access the App Store, so that you can redownload Mountain Lion for installation. Once you’ve installed Mountain Lion on your SSD, it will then have the Mountain Lion recovery partition installed also.
To ensure that your downloads and documents are saved to your external Seagate HDD, be sure to choose a location on that drive whenever you download a file or save a document. Each application that you use will probably need to be set to download/save to your external HDD, but each of them should remember that external HDD location for future downloads/saves.

  • Has anyone installed the GIMP?

Has anyone installed the GIMP on their iBook? I have a couple questions because of the way their site is worded:
    http://www.gimp.org/macintosh/
In the requirements section are they just explaining why it doens't run on version 9 or earlier? It almost makes it sound like you have to go download that stuff (which is why I feel stupid for asking this). :-/
This site, http://gimp-app.sourceforge.net/ , which is the first site they list on the places to get GIMP, makes it sound like the application there is all you have to download, except for the extra install from the OS X Install Disk. Would that be all I needed?
I'd love to have this program on my iBook, so if anyone who has installed it could walk me through it, that'd be great.
    Thanks,
    Mandy

    Hi Mandy,
I myself have not tried GIMP.app because I have lost the urge to use X11. In order to use it, you will to download X11 from your OS X disk and install X11; not to be confused with X11SDK. I bet you can find a bunch of GIMP and X11 users in Mac OS X Technologies > Unix forum.
You may want to look at this previous post.

  • Has anyone installed the new firmware?

Has anyone installed the new firmware yet? And have you noticed any issues with it? I'm weary of installing Apple's firmware updates after how terrible the last one was (I'm sure everyone remembers the hdd hangs). Also, Apple's trackpad update was terrible as well for the first few weeks it was out.

Because I was one of the users affected last time.

Not just a tiny amount of people. Lots of people had this issue. Firmware downgrade is what solved it, until Apple released an upgrade of the upgrade. I just wanted to check if anyone was having issues with this firmware before I upgraded.
And I'm not sure why people are getting so offended. It's a simple question of "did upgrading to the new firmware screw up your computer", and requires a yes or a no answer. The last two times I installed an update it messed with my computer, so it makes sense for me to be weary. You would be as well if you were in the same situation. And I have not yet heard anything about this firmware, but I haven't had time to check out what people have said. I'm in med school and I'm usually fairly busy.

  • Can I install a Samsung 840 Pro 256GB into the new iMac late 2013?

    Hi There,
    1)   Can a Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSD be installed in the new iMac late 2013 model?  (My plan is to remove the existing 1TB HDD and replace with the Samsung SSD)
1.1)  I have heard somewhere, even though it will fit, Apple's logic board firmware will pick up the non-apple product and render the iMac useless until original hard drive is reinstalled.
1.2)  If it will work, will I loose my warranty on iMac?  Note, the SSD will be installed by an Apple authorized workshop.
    2)     Can 2x 2.5 sata drives be installed in the iMac?
2.1)  I know the iMac only has 1x SATA and 1x PCIe slot, but can one not install a PCIe - SATA converter and also a 2x 2.5 drive bay in the place of the existing         3.5" drive?
    Thanks for your assistance.

I checked on the Samsung website and the 840 Pro is OSX compatible and should work in your MBP.

  • HT3669 Has anyone installed a samsung SCX-4826 with mountain lion?

I'm having problems installing the driver for my macbook pro. I've installed the samsung driver pack but it doesn't support the SCX-4826. I've tried the samsung website but that didn't work either. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I found these instructions from another thread and it works.  I used the SCX-472X.gz file and it works fine so far. The features for 472x and 4826 seems to be identical.
here's a solution that worked for me:
download the samsung printer drivers: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL905
open SamsungPrinterDrivers.dmg file and copy the contents to your desktop
download unpkg - a small, free app that simply unpacks the contents of .pkg file into a folder: http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/16357/unpkg/
launch unpkg and drag the file you copied on to your desktop on to unpkg to extract it to a folder on your desktop
connect yoru printer to your mac via USB
open system preferences > print & scan > add a printer
ignore the prompts to download and add software from Apple - it clearly doesn't work
highlight the printer and select use > other from the drop down to select the driver
navigate to the folder on your desktop you extracted in step 4
    select SamsungPrinterDrivers > Library > Printers > PPDs > Contents > Resources > Samsung CLX-3180 Series.gz
It will add your printer with the basics. You can then download all the other Samsung software for your printer, including the Smart Panel app, which will then give you the supply levels for your printer when you click on the Printer > Options & Supplies > Supply Levels. I managed to get the scanner and fax working too. Plus the wireless set up.
It's poor form that there is no official, working set of drivers and software for what is a relatively new printer. It's not a cheap printer either so Samsung should get cracking and sort it out. But perhaps they're too busy with legal proceedings....

  • Issues with Samsung 840 pro and MacbookPro mid 2012.

I got a Samsung 840 pro 256GB SSD a few months ago. I installed it into my MacbookPro mid 2012 and it worked with no issues for two months. One day the drive pretty much crashed on me while I was using it. I tried connected the drive with a SATA to Thunderbolt adapter and the SSD worked with no issues. This led me to think the issue was with my mac, so I reinstalled the HDD I was previously using. I experianced no issues with this drive installed. Simply put, the SSD does not work if ONLY if it is connected to the internal SATA connection. I wound up RMAing the drive back to Samsung and recieved a new one today.
I installed the drive and attempted to install OS X without success. After more troubleshooting I determined that, the brand new drive is experiancing the same issue: it does not work ONLY if it is conneced to the internal SATA connection. I spend an hour on the phone with Samsung, they have not heard of this problem happening. I called an independanta Mac repair shop and they told me it was the SATA cable (this is incorrect because other HDD's work). I went to the Apple store but they don't care about you unless you're willing to shell out big bucks or you have AppleCare.
    Somebody help!

One possibility is that the model you have is intended for use with a SATA III 6.0 Gb/s interface whereas your computer only supports up to 3.0 Gb/s. If the new SSD is not downward compatible then it will not work properly.

  • Has anyone installed the new galaxy s3 update?

Just curious if anyone has installed the software update for the Samsung Galaxy S3 and if they ran into any issues?

Installed fine. However, I was disappointed to see it was not KitKat 4.4. Otherwise, no problems here.

  • Has anyone installed the Verizon In-Home agent on Moutain Lion?

I am having a lot of trouble with Verizon telephone service and they want me to install Verizon In-home Agent on my MacBook Air. Has anyone had any trouble with that app? I have Verizon Freedom Essentials phone service, a misnomer to say the least.
    Roger

From the FIOS area in a simluar thread..
i like the online version of the app at www.verizon.com/repair
you can do a lot of the functions of the app without all the bloatware.
    and
As other have said it does something, it waste resources.  Not sure on the MAC, but on PC's it has been none to drive at least one cpu to 100% (If you only have one its really bad).  And the number of functions it does that you might ever want to do is minimal.
Personally I recommend that you uninstall it, and make sure you get all pieces of it.

  • Has anyone installed the new update to Itunes 7.3.1 sucessfully?

I know people complain more often than they say thanks but having experienced the problems upgrading to 7.3.0 and resolving them with the help of this discussion forum I am hesitant to do another update for fear that I will lose more than I gain.
So have people installed the latest update and been successful? Or were there problems for everyone?
    HP 720n   Windows XP

Troublefree upgrade from 7.3.0.x on an XP SP2 box, and two troublefree initial installs on a 32-bit Vista Ultimate box so far. (A separate set of issue on the Vista box required a restore from the the factory's recovery partition, hence the two different initial installs on the same Vista box.)

  • Anyone installed the Oracle client software on MBP?

    Hi there,
I'm running into problems installing the Oracle 10g client software (not the server) on my macbook Pro (Intel)
The instant client installs fine, but it doesn't have the tools I need (sqlldr, imp, exp). During the install the installer gives me a java UnsatifiedLinkError.
Any thoughts? Sorry if I've missed a previous thread on this, but searches turned up nothing.

So do u mean if we have SQLPLUS on the box, it implies that client tools are installed ?
and the SQLPLUS.exe is the one that indicates the existance of client tools on a box and this has to be present on the box to say that the clinet tools are installed.
Can we have client tools on the box with out SQLPLUS.?

  • Has anyone installed the D5259a M70 driver in XP? MS gives warning that it is not logo'd.

I'm looking at installing a D5259a M70 driver on a Lenovo T60 laptop as a temporary fix.  When I get to the end I get a warning from XP that the driver has not passed compatibility testing and could destabilize the system.  I've only found the one driver so far so would like to know that this has been done before with no ill effects. Thx.

Well, well, well... Nothing has changed. Somehow or another Adobe has managed to truly take control of Windows 7.
I updated Bridge or more correctly... The Cloud did and every files extension in Bridge had 'none' as the application. Lovely stuff. Now All I want to know is why did Adobe take control of Windows file manager and cause this much grief?
I almost never use the clunky and often impossible to manage Bridge. Simple freeware... Irfanview is way more elegant than Bridge and 10 times more useful IMO.
Well thanks for the heads up Curt. I never considered the full implication of giving Adobe the freedom to add and remove whatever they wanted to... Forget the don't fix what isnt broken thing... Just pour everything we've got in the cloud onto all the  members PCs, eh? Hard drives are cheap and hey, what are forums for when things go wrong if it isn't to keep Adobe informed of bugs they can silently fix and pour 'em back into the cloud as fixes.
Ha,ha you just gotta love progress eh?
This is really going to take on. I can see it now... For every mess up of a PC -- "THE CLOUD DID IT"!!!

  • Has anyone purchased the refurb macbook pro 1.83 for £928 from the UK store

If so what are your experiences please....
I can't afford a new machine so am considering one of these...
    TA !!
intel imac 17" 1.83 ghz core duo   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I bought a refurb and have been pleasantly suprised. It looked brand new out of the package, and has been bug free. It seemed to freeze once or twice while in sleep mode, but hasn;t done that in weeks. I have been running it for ove a month now without problems.
To me, it was worth it!!!

  • Has anyone installed the Maxon C4DImporter.aex fix, which works, but still get the error "internal verification failure, Sorry" on a different user logon?

    internal verification failure, Sorry! {Unexpected FunctionBlock5flags for FunctionBlock4}
    (5027::53)
This used to appear until I replaced the Maxon plugin as per Adobe's advice.  All seemed well, but then when a colleague logs on the same Windows 7 Enterprise machine they get the same error.
    How is this possible

That worked once for a member of staff but then, strangley, never again.  However, even if this did work we need students to be able to get around this issue, but they can't run as administrator under our college policies.

  • Has anyone seen the blue flashing screen on MBP running 10.6.8?  It looks like you are plugging in an external monitor and unplugging it over and over.

So, I have called Apple twice about this issue.  Both times, I was on for almost an hour and could not get an answer.  In fact, the technicians said that they had never seen this issue before.  Here is how it goes.
It has happened MacBook Pro laptops anywhere from 2010 to now.  I have seen it on new ones with Thunderbolt and ones a generation before.  In the environment I work in, we have many, thousands from ranging from all generations.  This specific issue seems to only be affecting 10.6.8.  When the computer boots, it starts to flash blue as if you just plugged in an external montior, except there is no monitor, and it keeps flashing blue about once every second.  I actually have a video of it on my phone that I can send to show you.
Now, like I said, this is happening to multiple laptops, all running 10.6.8.  There isn't a particular action that causes it either.  I have seen laptops that have been running for hours just start doing it as well as a completely cold start up do it right at the login screen.  Upgrading to 10.7.x seems to solve the issue.  But you have to understand, the environment I work in has thousands of computers.  Upgrading many of them to Lion just for this is just not practical.  In some cases, there is software that will not function correctly beyond 10.6.8.
I have scoured though Google searches for hours now looking for a similar issue and a resolution.  The answer I always seem to find is just upgrade.  I can't seem to find a discussion beyond 2011 that talks about it.
    Can someone help me?
    Chad

By the way, I have tried shutting of the display switching in the power settings.  That was basically the only real answer I found anywhere.  It didn't work.

  • Samsung 840 Pro 128GB VS. Intel 520 120GB

    Hi everybody,
I would like to buy a ssd for my laptop, to do some video editing  projects on it, in my country I found this 2 ssd, looking around I've found great reviews about each so I really don't know which one to buy, I have a crucial ssd and it's great but sadly the person who sold it to me doesn't have crucial right now, which one do you think will be better for my purpose.
    Thanks a lot.

I really like the Samsung 840 Pro 128GB choice for a OS/programs drive for a desktop PC. It sounds REALLY small for a laptop unless you will have a 2nd drive on the laptop as well.
For a single drive laptop the 500GB Samsung 840 (non-pro) is pretty nice and cost effective vs. the 840 pro 512GB model. For the larger SSD sizes the write speed of Samsung's 840 series is not nearly so crippled as their smaller (120GB) drive is.
If 500GB or larger SSD choices are clearly out of your price range, then the Seagate 750GB Momentus XT 7200 rpm laptop drive would be a good choice.
    Regards,
    Jim
