Has ANYONE managed to install Vista under Boot Camp on a second drive?

As I understand it Vista cannot be installed on secondary drive because of the "Windows is unable to find a system volume that meets its criteria for install" error message when selecting the install location because it needs a Primary Drive.
In the Microsoft Knowledge Base they recommend removing the primary drive to overcome this but I tried and it failed.
Do I HAVE to go out and buy XP (which allows installs on secondary drives) and then upgrade to Vista.
I'm so darn frustrated with this issue I wondered if anyone has managed to do this successfully.
Thanks
Aln

No problems here. I have Vista 64 Ultimate running on a different internal drive, and I didnt remove my primary OSX drive to do this. In fact it worked without a hitch. There must be something you are doing wrong in the bootcamp preparation phase.

  • Installing Vista under Leopard give Windows error - ATA driver related??

Trying to install Vista under Boot Camp in new Mac Pro running Leopard with 2 serial ATA drives. Wish to install Vista as clean install on 2nd drive. The second drive gets properly formatted as NTSF and is seen by Vista installer. But install quits with error "Windows is unable to find a system volume that meets its criteria for installation." Apple tech support says this is a Windows issue. Microsoft says "if you are trying to perform a clean installation of Vista you must provide the correct drivers . . . select the "load drivers" option." Microsoft also advises to "check website of HDD manufacturer for updated drivers. Apple does not list the manufacturer of its SATA drives. So I am stuck. Any help would be appreciated.

You have to format the volume again in Vista DVD, then restart and boot from DVD again. I've done this a dozen times so far.
It is a Mac Pro issue, I think. I only use x64, so it could be 64-bit Vista related. Also, it seemed to me BCA created FAT32 even though it was evenly divided on 500GB drive. (In the past, it was NTFS, but Vista didn't like it anyway, and it has a later revision of NTFS probably, just as HFS+ has changed and evolved).
If worst comes to worst, pull your OS X drive out entirely. Goes easier that way also.... but still need to format the partition.
I've got Ultimate and Business along with Home Premium, but only first two support dual-cpu / dual-core and full amount of memory. 32-bit on Mac Pro Vista seems to be limited to 2GB of physical memory. So two strikes against x32 Vista on Mac Pro.
This is because there is some support for Xeon and Itanium in Vista for EFI, but MS will offically support EFI (UEFI 2.0) with SP1, and more PC manufacturers will come on-board.
You can find the SATA chipset information, but that isn't the issue.
I liked playing with RC1 a year ago and said "I need to learn more" so I stayed with it. Have to get creative sometimes.

  • Can't uninstall or re-install Vista drivers (Boot Camp 2.1)

I'm having problems with my MacBook Pro's bluetooth support in Vista under Boot Camp so I thought I'd try to re-install the Boot Camp 2.1 drivers. However, whenever I run the setup program, it just gives me a useless error message saying it encountered an error before it could start the install, and to please try again later. Rebooting doesn't help.
So I thought maybe I could uninstall all the Apple stuff then start again. But when I try to uninstall "Boot Camp services" from the programs and features control panel, it starts to uninstall, but then gives up silently as it nears the completion of the "gathering information" dialog.
So I can't uninstall or re-install this thing. Anyone know how I can fix this?
    Thanks!

It may be too late, but have you tried going into the drivers using Vista's control panel and either removing the drivers or reverting to precious drivers?

  • Has anyone managed to install RAID 0 with 975x PowerUp ?

Out of curiosity, has anyone on here managed to install XP on RAID 0, using 2 SATAII drives ?
I've had problems (another post) ... but I was just curious if anyone has managed to do it.
If so, can you confirm ...
    a) what slots in the mobo you put your SATA drives in (there is that single 'special' SATA connector!)
    b) what driver did you use for the F6 method.
I just want to see if anyone has managed to do what I have utterly failed to do ...

Are you still having problems installing windows on RAID? PrvtMsg me if you want some help.
Incidentally you should be using two of the five main SATA ports, enabling RAID in the SATA section (forget the JMicron - disable it)
Next you should be able to enter the Intel RAID config Mgr WHILST the system is POSTing, and set up your RAID volume from there.
This should enable you to use the Intel RAID drivers on a floppy disk.

I have 2 seagate 7200.10 (perpendicular recording) drives in RAID 0 on the intel controller, no problems at all.  This config rips, its unreal, I'm sure it gives all of raptors except the new version a serious headache, haha.
Really? what sort of benchmarks are you getting? I use HDTach for HDD Benching.

  • Has anyone managed to install aperture 2 with a 12" G4 laptop?

Mine runs Leopard 10.5.2 with a 1.5 Ghz processor and 1.25GB of memory. The system checker says it's fine but it tells me my graphics card will not work it properly. My graphics card is the GeForce FX Go5200.
Has anyone managed to get it installed, it's blinkin annoying that i cannot load it on this laptop?

I've got it running now on my 12" 1.25 PB with 768Mb of RAM, it took some fiddling but it is running now. On launch it tells me 'The version of ImageIO installed on your computer is not supported by Aperture' but still gives me the option to continue and from there it launches as normal.
It appears that my Nikon D3 files are not supported but earlier cameras like my D200 are fine. My PB is running 10.4.11 btw.
I'm not sure I'm allowed to explain how I got it running here, I've no wish to contravene any forum rules but you can contact me at flateric1 AT mac.com and I can give you my iChat name to talk you through it if you wish.

  • How to increase screen resolution in Vista under boot camp?

I have installed Vista Home Premium under boot camp (OS X 10.5.7) but in preferences I can only get the maximum of 1280x960 while my screen resolution on SyncMaster P2250 in OS X is 1920x1080.
(I am using new Mac mini with NVIDIA GeForce 9400).
I have inserted Leopard disc in Vista and installed boot camp but still I can't make the resolution higher.

OK everything works fine! The problem was that after installation of Vista I was inserting old Leopard disc that I bought a year ago instead of inserting the Mac OS X installation disc that I got with new Mac mnini.
When I put the Mac OS X that was toghether with new Mac mini it installed missing driver and everything started working

  • Installing boot camp on a second drive

    Hi All,
First let me apologize for this long-winded post and also for my lack of basic knowledge when it comes to mac computer skills.
I would like to install windows 7 on a brand new 500gb drive in a brand new mac pro.
    I was reading through the installation & setup up guide for boot camp and was stonewalled on page 6 it says;
“If your computer has more than one internal disk and you want to install Boot Camp on a disk that isn’t in the first hard drive bay, remove the drives in the lower numbered bays. You can reinstall the drives after you install Boot Camp.”
Ok that makes sense but if I remove the first drive how do I install boot camp since the first drive contains boot camp on it?
The next question I have is; Can I make the whole 500gb drive one partition that will have boot camp, windows 7 and all the windows files on it or does it have to have just boot camp and windows 7?
    Thanks
    Mike

Shutdown - pull OS X drive(s) - continue with install.
You'll have to change to NTFS when you get to where to install.
At that point you can even format or partition.
As for the Assistant, well, some install Windows 7 on a drive without it (that can't be done with XP) and just leave one drive and boot from Win 7 DVD.
    "that will have boot camp...."
There IS NO "boot camp." The assistant modified the partition table to include a standard MBR for booting Windows. And that would be on the #2 500GB.
Until you install the Apple setup.exe drivers and services after Windows is installed from your OS X DVD, there is nothing in or on Windows that is faintly about boot camp. Unfortunate term. It also gets to become a control panel in Windows to change the default startup OS (why not call it Apple OS Switcher / Apple Startup Disk).
There will be AppleTimeServices and AppleOSSwitcher services along with HAL and device drivers to enable them in Device Manager.
As for lowered numbered and first drive bay, they must think Mac Pro owners are locked into and only boot from drive bay #1. and that Assistant is a very limited not very smart partitioning tool is true.
So run Assistant but instead of restarting with the DVD and install, just shutdown. Pull all the other drives but 500GB. Then boot off the DVD.

  • Has anyone managed to install airport/bluetooth manually?

I am aware of the issues as discussed ad nauseum (and yes I was sold one of the old exterme cards ahead of my purchase of a quad!)
I know where to buy the correct kit from US but would like to know whether anyone has managed to install it manually (yes I know it is not user-installable and it affects the warranty)

Yes, I have the Powermac g5 quad and I tried two of them. The first one barely worked and the second worked for only short spurts and its very difficult to install. I had the same luck as others who tried that product on this forum. I ended up buying a usb keychain 802.11b/g from ZyXEL p/n AG-225H. Some of the boxes at CompUSA advertised that it was MAC compatible if you downloaded a driver from us/zxel.com/ag225h. It works for several hours at a time and then a kernel panic crashes my computer. I have talked to ZyXEL and they believe that its just one bad unit. I going to return it tomorrow and get a new one. If it still crashes they want me to work with there Apple expert to troubleshoot and fix the problem.
    Hope this helps....Tracy

  • Please help! Need to re-install windows under boot camp

    Hi,
My windows (in boot camp) is not booting but I have many software licenses on there and cannot afford to wipe windows off.
I am hoping I can re install windows over the top of the current windows without losing my applications/licenses with boot camp but am not confident enough that a: re-installing windows wont mess up the mac osx and b: I cannot even see an option in the boot camp assistant which offer me the option.
Has anybody esle ever had to re-install windows over an existing installation and managed to do so without losing applications etc?
Thanks for any help on this.

  • Why two QuickTimes with Apple Software Update in Vista under Boot Camp?

Running Apple software update in BootCamped Vista, I see selection for 1) QuickTime, 2) Safari, 3) iTunes & QuickTime.
Items 1) and 3) are by default checked for download. Why would I want to download QuickTime twice??

    Hi!
Funny you should mention that! Same thing happened to me yesterday, I was downloading Boot camp 2.1 and there were the other three downloads you mentioned. I downloaded them anyway. I now have Safari 3.2.1 (etc.) on my Windows partition. Why did I do that ? To be frank I do not know!! Now you have all three on the Windows partition.

I managed to get it to work, you have to install two files
the first for the actual python script files.
the second for the user interface.
you might have installed the user interface, but without installing python, and that's why its not loading up the application, also make sure you install python to phone memory.
    On my N96 I installed:
    Python for S60 1.4.4
    Python script shell 1.4.4
if you get an 'update error' when installing its because you have not un-installed all of the old python stuff, open app manager on the handset and un-install all python relating files
one last thing, install python and the shell to the phone memory (c drive)
    Hope it helps

  • Has anyone managed to deploy Acrobat Pro 9.0 for Mac through ARD?

Has anyone managed to get Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.0 for Mac to deploy with any level of reliability through tools such as Apple Remote Desktop?
The main CS3 apps are "better", if still kludgy to deploy somewhat silently, but every time I've tried to get Acrobat Pro 9.0 to deploy, it steadfastly refuses to do so without demanding admin access on at least the first launch, and insisting on running the Updater in the process, which is completely unacceptable.
I should say that I've looked at their Adobe Acrobat deployment site (http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/solutions/it/), and it's entirely useless for the Mac version.
Why do Adobe make this so hard?

Okay, I think I've figured this out.
    * On a clean machine (ie: no Adobe software), install Adobe Acrobat Pro
    * Run Acrobat. Insert license code. Allow it to "selfheal". Quit.
    * Run Distiller. Allow it to "selfheal". Quit.
    * Edit AcroEFGPro90.plist and AcroEFGDist90.plist which can be found in Contents > MacOS within the Acrobat and Distiller apps respectively.
    * Change the "Requires" tags from "YES" to "NO" for all the file resources.
    * Copy these to plist files into /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Acrobat/ and overwrite the ones that are already there.
    * Run Acrobat and Distiller again. Allow "selfheal" if prompted. Quit.
    * Run again. Quit.
    * Build a Mac OS X installer package of the following:
    /Applications/Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.0
    /Applications/Utilites/Adobe Utilities
    /Library/Application Support/Adobe/
    /Library/Application Support/FLEXnet*
    /Library/Preferences/com.adobe.*
    /Library/Preferences/FLEXnet*
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins/AdobePDFViewer.plugin
    /Library/ColorSync/Profiles/
    /Library/Printers/PPD Plugins/Adobe*
    /Library/Printers/PPDs/.../.../.../ADPDF9.PPD (one per language)
    /Users/Shared/Adobe
    /usr/libexec/cups/backend/pdf900
    * After you've built the package, go through the Acrobat application bundle and find cupshup.pl. Copy it into the Resources folder of the installer package, and rename it to "postflight" (this gets the installer to configure the PDF printer).
    * Distribute through ARD.
    * Grab com.adobe.* from ~/Library/Preferences
    * Distribute the com.adobe.* files to all users; the .plist files can be done through Workgroup Manager, however com.adobe.118.registration must be copied as-is into the user folder, rather than being injected via MCX or the defaults command or any other method, as it's not a plist.
    Dear Adobe,
    MAKE THIS SIMPLER.

  • Has anyone managed to get a 3TB dynamic disk on Windows 2003 Server?

I just got a pair of new 3TB disks that I wanted to put on my Windows 2003 server enterprise x64 system, SP2, all updates installed.
When I first tried to convert to dynamic, I got the error "The operation did not complete" as described in this KB article
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/826823
It says there is a patch, but there is not one for x64, just x86 and ia64
I found another technet discussion here:  https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverfiles/thread/cb62238c-b3d0-4989-b45a-ae6de6701a7b?stoAI=10
However its best suggestion is to use a product from AOMIE, but I tried that and it didn't even recognize the disk.  It also suggests that one needs a better version of diskpart.exe and to try to the 32 bit version.  Anyone have any experience
    with that?
I also tried creating moving the disk to Windows 7 x64, making it dynamic there, but when I move the disk back to 2K3 it does not recognize it, and goes back to a 2TB partition.  I also saw something about needing a 512 block size for 2K3, but W7 does
not allow anything smaller than 1K.

    Hi,
During my research, if found the following artcle which also mentioned a 3TB disk should be supported in Windows 2003 SP1:
Has anyone managed to get a 3TB dynamic disk on Windows 2003 Server?
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverfiles/thread/a720ae72-0c04-44dd-94c0-2e6aecce530e
So I contact the author about this issue. He said it could be caused if your hard disk is a 512e drive as the 3TB drives on the market today are normally 512e drives.
However manufacturers stopping identifying this, and if the controller is old, FSUtil will not able to identify a 512 drive but recognized it as a normal 512n drive.
Thus please provide the drive model so we could search on manufacturer's website for exact information.
Also please paste the screenshot in your reply which Satish mentioned if available.

  • Need help installing my graphics driver in windows vista via boot camp

New to mac so first time on forum as well.
Love the Mac but i also want to get on some old games. C&C The First Decade mainly.
    I am currently using below.
Mac mini Mid 2011 processor 2.5 GHz Intel Core it
    Memory 4 GB 1333 Mhz DDR3
Graphics AMD Radeon HD 6630M 256 MB
Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5
Installing windows vista home premium 32 bit
I have installed windows vista home premium using boot camp assistant and downloaded the windows drivers as well. After i have installed windows i installed boot camp using my Mac OS X snow leopard which installed boot camp 3 or 3.1 i believe and i eventually got apple updates for 3.2 which is what i am now runnning on vista. I had trouble getting my sound to play through my speakers at first but eventually got them working and now it is my graphics driver that i cannot seem to get working. In vista(I also downloaded service pack 1 and 2) when i go to control panel and check out my device control it shows a yellow exclamation point next to the adapter. I guess i need help in getting my graphics installed correctly on my windows. Is there something i should take off to install the correct driver? Or do i just need the correct driver download? If i have the correct driver how do i upload it onto my windows side in the device control.
When i try to run c&c generals/zero hour i get a directx 8.1 error, red alert 2 is black but i can hear. i know these games can work i installed the graphics correctly the first time when i did not have sound as this is my second time installing windows so the game did load when i did not have sound.
    Advise?
I was thinking about saying forget this i can't waste hours of my time anymore but i have to be close to getting everything working if i had graphics before and no sound but sound this time and no graphics. I was also thinking about just buying windows 7 home premium sp1 64bit system builder dvd off amazon and reinstalling windows using windows 7 but i want to make sure i can play these games before i spend the money. I thought my mini couldn't support windows vista and if it did only boot camp 4? how am i getting this far to get things to work?
What is the driver i need to install to get these games working? What do I need to do or what am I missing???
Do i need to install a different boot camp off apple and find a driver that will get mine to work in vista?
Any and all responses will be greatly appreciated i have been at this everyday for hours.

Also is there something, say maybe a driver, that was installed i do not need that is blocking me from installing the correct drivers? What driver in my boot camp folder do i need to install to get to the correct display to run those games.
