Has anyone NOT liked their MacBook?

Hi All,
I am a brand new Mac user, after using Windows for about 20 years. I REALLY wanted a Mac, mostly because I'd heard how great they were for digital photography (which a do a lot of) and because they were less virus-prone, more reliable, user friendly, etc. Everyone I know who has one loves them. Well, I got a MacBook for Christmas and I am running into lots of problems and am getting increasingly frustrated.
A few examples: I use AOL (I have for a long time and want to keep it) but it seems that mac and AOL don't play well together (no main screen updates, it dumps me off of AOL for no reason occasionally, not as many options as on my windows system, etc.
I also have tried repeatedly to download Adobe Flashplayer to see visuals on websites (eg, from my son's school website) and despite downloading the correct version I get an error message saying the disk images failed to mount and the reason was "not recognized"
These are just a couple of the issues I've encountered and I do realize that some of this is that I'm still on the early part of the learning curve, but I'm wondering if I'm just not an "apple person". Can anyone give me some encouragement here? Also, any advice on where to go for help...I bought the computer online from the Apple Store (and did buy the AppleCare plan along with it); there is a bricks and mortar Apple Store about 30 minutes from where I live. Should I go there with it and my questions (is this even something they could help me with?)
Up til now I've always felt very competent about my computer skills, so this is throwing me for a loop. Any help is appreciated!
Thanks!

Hi,
i love my "late 2006" MacBook!
So much so, that i bought the late 2007 Santa Rosa MacBook (pre-installed with Leopard) to upgrade it...
...but on further review, i actually kept the "older" one, and will be listing the newer one (still sealed) on eBay next week.
unfortunately, i cannot comment on AOL and Macs...
but for EVERYTHING else, my MacBook has been a dream!
i've purchased everything you can get to keep it looking pristine:
*full keyboard and palmrest protector
*Speck clear plastic protective case
*trackpad protective die-cut patch
*Applecare extended warranty (have not needed it yet...)
*and just recently an Exim screen protector (bought for the newer MacBook)
...and given the opportunity to upgrade the older MacBook, i passed!
In terms of getting assistance with your new Mac, Apple retail stores have a service called One-to-One, where you pay about $99.00 a year and you can schedule a one hour session each week and get quality tutoring on various topics of your own choosing! They might even have a trial session to check it out... you might want to consider it, i have found it very helpful! :o)
blue skies,

  • Has anyone NOT gotten their iPhone?

UPS just dropped mine off. I wanted to know if anyone who pre-ordered through AT&T or apple and went to their store and was unable to get one? Or it didn't get delievered today? The day isn't over yet but just wanted to know how smoothly the ordering online went?

I haven't received mine yet, and my feeling has quickly gone from worry to disappointment...
I preordered from the online Apple store soon after the WWDC announcement (Jun 8 @ 01:22 PM PDT to be precise, lol), and on Jun 9 I get an email from Apple stating "Due to a technical error, we communicated an incorrect delivery date. We want to assure you that your iPhone 3G S will deliver on June 19th." Ok..
A couple days ago I checked my order status, and it still listed as Prepared for Shipment with "Ships: Jun 19 / Delivers: Jun 24." So, I call their customer service number, and all the agent could do was confirm that it wasn't scheduled to ship out until today, the 19th.
As of this morning, the status is still Prepared for Shipment, no tracking number, no iPhone 3G S. Kind of a bummer when I likely could have preordered with my local Apple Store or AT&T and have been joining you and all the others right now in their new gadget glee.
Edit: The lead-in message to the customer service waiting queue reinforces that if you ordered before June xx (the date I can't remember, but I assume isn't relevant in my case since I ordered minutes after the keynote) that it should arrive today.. So I guess we'll see.

  • Has anyone else noticed their macbook air (11-inch, Late 2010) fan running constantly?

Since i updated to 10.8.4, i've noticed the fan is running almost constantly on my Macbook Air (11-inch, Late 2010) and the computer gets very hot. I looked in Activity Monitor and saw that both Safari and Finder were using CPU, but it's by no means spiked. Anyone else notice this?

Try resetting your system's System Management Controller (SMC) to see if that helps the problem. The SMC is responsible for managing the feedback for the fans to respond to temperature changes.
See here for how to reset it for your system: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964

  • Has anyone else experienced their macbook powering off by itself after installing lion?

This never happened before the lion install, but now it has happened twice and I can't restart without attempting power on mulitple times.

    Hi tinytunnels,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I know that it can be frustrating when the built in trackpad on your computer is jumpy or erratic. In this situation there are a few different troubleshooting steps that I would recommend. Please read over and use the attached article for troubleshooting.
Trackpad or Magic Trackpad is jumpy or erratic

  • Has anyone noticed that their iPhone 5 has a yellow tinged display?

Has anyone noticed that their iPhone 5 has a yellow tinged display and the colours look too intense? Just does not look right.

Correction - I HAVE reported the fault to Apple and to my network provider who have informed me that they have received numerous complaints from their customers and are sending out replacements to them and to me. As I hadn't stated what steps I had taken in my original post you shouldn't be so fast to assume what I have or have not done.
    Thank you and goodbye.

  • Has anyone maxed out their mac?

i ask this out of curiosity for the bigger and faster machines. i can understand the needs and wants for faster, but has anyone maxed out their mac? and with what? i have lots installed and running on mine im sure not as much as a lot of people, but i still have lots available. so jsut wondering about the need for 200g

15-20gb is gone off my drive just for parallels, i have about another 15gb dedicated to music, another 10gb for movies and tv shows. My mbp has just a little under 6gb left free, but this is only due to constant clean up of "temporary" (eg - not useful to me anymore) files. I had opted for a 100gb 7200rpm drive, I now almost wish I had went for the 120gb option.

  • Has anyone with a whinning MacBook got it replaced with a silent one?

Has anyone with a whinning MacBook got it replaced with a silent one?
    or
Has anyone got the CPU whine fixed at Apple?

I had a whining week 12 MacBook Pro. I exchanged it at the Apple Store for another week 12 MacBook Pro (they didn't have any week 13 models).
The second week 12 MacBook whined far louder than the first. Also, unlike the first MacBook which whined only on battery power, the second MacBook whined on both A/C and battery. Moreover, it was unstable (something I did not experience with the first MacBook) and prone to kernel panics.
I returned the second MacBook. I was offered a week 13, but I asked for my money back instead.
I'm currently waiting to see what Apple says about this issue before ordering again.

  • Has anyone else lost their scroll bars after downloading the newest version of IOS?

Has anyone else lost their scroll bars after downloading the newest version of IOS?

What does the iPhone/iPad OS have to do with Mavericks?
Mavericks does remove the scroll bars as they are not needed, but you can set them to show always in the General System Prefs.

  • Has anyone successfully reset their Skype account ...

I've posted on this before, but none of you good people have shared your thoughts on this. Unfortunately, Skype Customer Service don't appear to have a "standard response" e-mail template to address my problem.
Nine days after I first reported that my Skype account has been hacked I am still going round in circles, with "standard response" e-mails from the Skype Customer Support people asking me to do something which I have already tried but which was not the correct thing to do to reset my Skype Account password.
My Skype Account password has been changed by a hacker.
My Microsoft Account, which is linked to Skype, has not been hacked and the password has been changed (three times in a week ..... see below).
I need to change only my Skype account password but the password reset links take me through to Microsoft and I end up changing my Microsoft account password.  This does not resolve the Skype Account Password situation.
Has anyone successfully reset their unknown or forgotten password from a Skype account which has been linked to their Microsoft account?
Does anyone know whether Skype themselves can unlink a Skype Account from a Microsoft Account? Unfortunately I can only do it with the password I do not have!!!  I feel that this could be one way of changing my password without being redirected to the Microsft Account Password Reset option.

Well, it's me again.  However, I now have a new name on the Community Forum as I have had to re-register as I no longer seem to exist.
I contacted Skype Customer Support via their web chat service and the operator unlinked my Skype Account (which, if you've read any other posts from my original name alison01326) you will recall was hacked and I was unable to make a change to the password as I kept getting through to the Microsoft account password change which was not the password that needed changing.
I would have said, that if you need to unlink the two accounts, just ask.  But now I am not so sure.  My Skype Account (the one which was hacked, and still has someone else's password on it) has vanished, taking with it £10 of Skype Credit and the World Minutes which I receive monthly as part of Office 365.
I now have five or six different customer service references to quote, and not only can I not get my account verified (as my memory doesn't stretch back to when I first had a Skype account) I also appear to have lost £10 and a valuable "free" service.
Have been in tears over this as 11 days have passed since the hacking and nothing positive has been achieved.  Does anyone else have the same experiences, and what was the outcome?

  • Has anyone maxed out their storage since iOS 7 update forces download of all email?

Has anyone maxed out their storage since iOS 7 update forces download of all email? I'm on my way to that end. I will have to delete my email accounts. Apple told me to do so and just use the providers' apps instead of iPhone accounts. This pretty much renders my smartphone useless. Not to mention I no longer like using my phone since this awful update. Not as intuitive or fun!

    (A) Reset iPad
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    (B) Make sure sound is not muted in Control Center; tap on the little bell. Swipe upwards from bottom of screen to launch Control Center

  • Has anyone not working with .dv files had synchronization problems?

Has anyone not working with .dv files had sound synchronization problems? I'm not exactly sure what the alternatives to DV are, but I think one of them is HD.
The reason for asking this question is to help isolate the nature and cause of a very serious flaw in iMovie '11. In the original release of iMovie '11 (version 9.0) there was a small--but serious--synchronization problem. In the 9.01 there is a large synchronization problem. We know of one person who has not experienced the problem, and he is not working with DV files (media). So we want to find out if anyone who is using something other than .dv files is experiencing a lack of synchronization between sound and picture. Knowing the answer to this will help with figuring out where the cause lies. For the initial iMovie '11 release (9.0), you probably would not notice a problem unless you had very long event-clips, e.g., two hours long. Events get this long if you are transferring from analog 8 mm tapes. Even then, it would have to be in scenes in which the connection between event and sound is obvious, e.g., close ups of people talking. It isn't until the 9.01 release that most people would notice anything. All we need to do is establish one case of a synchronization problem in which the person is using something other than DV.

Hopefully, the 9.0.2 release will make my question moot. Zyfert must have posted the announcement of the release just as I was formulating my question. Still, if you have information on the subject, it would be interesting to hear.

Has anyone not been able to get the iTunes installer to load properly and get a message like this: This iTunes installer is intended for 32 bit versions of windows. Please download and install 64 bit iTunes installer instead. I have tried repeatedly to get this to load, I have uninstalled iTunes completely and reinstalled and still get the same message. I have windows XP and a brand new ipod touch which I am trying to load.

Yes, it's come up a number of times. If you look to the right under "more like this", you'll find threads that may offer useful suggestions.

  • Has anyone successfully downloaded their Norton 360 online backup onto a new iMac?

My PC had a BSOD without warning and  restoring efforts have failed.  I've used the opportunity to move to a new iMac.  Unfortunately, my backup is with Norton 360 online.  Has anyone successfully migrated a norton backup file onto their iMac?

You will probably find most on here recommend you stay as far away from Norton software as possible with a Mac.  The Norton Anti-virus software is the worst of the worst and does damage to the Mac OS X.  Just be aware that you are likely to get recommendations to use the backup that comes with the Mac, Time Machine.  Or make a clone of your drive with programs like Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper.
