Has anyone noticed that over the holidays

there has been a spawn of new "where is my output" "does logic have a mixer" "ultrabeat isn't midi" type questions?

Do you ever notice that...... truck drivers learn to drive first?
What truck they prefer after this, what one handles better for them.... you know, over the course of their careers and experience on the road, they pick and choose.
Do you remember when you had to learn to engineer if you wanted to produce? And you had to tape op to be able to engineer, and you had to make tea before you tape op'ed? And whilst you were doing all these things, itching to get your hands on the gear and on the music you magically seemed to learn technically, artistically and acoustically?
Do you remember first using Logic and the routing and aux's and busses were, well, kind of like your hardware studio?
Do you ever wonder where the concept came from that to be an enginneer, musician or producer all you had to do was buy some software and then have the balls to say you were one?
Ahhhh, nostalgia.....
No offense to any of the regulars or newbies with good genuine issues....... The Logic manual is actually quite good.

Correction - I HAVE reported the fault to Apple and to my network provider who have informed me that they have received numerous complaints from their customers and are sending out replacements to them and to me. As I hadn't stated what steps I had taken in my original post you shouldn't be so fast to assume what I have or have not done.
    Thank you and goodbye.

  • Has anyone noticed that the button to unlatch the top... (plus whine)

Seems to be more set in than the powerbook? I just got the MBP and everything else seems fine, but with my PB I could open the lid with a quick brush of my thumb but with the MBP I usually have to came at it straight on.
Also, I noticed a slight whine, which I have reviewed here through MANY post and it seems to fit the bill (only when plugged in, stops when running programs/opening them) it's not really loud, only barely noticable, but I WAS wondering, have there been instances where the whine got worse? I notice it, which *****, but I can live with it, but if it got worse... that would really suck.

I can open mine with just a brush of my thumb against it, although it does seem to be a bit more difficult to open than my old powerbook, but the new MBP doesn't open up in my bag like my powerbook did. It's probably just going to take a bit of getting used to the new latch.
Mine has the same slight whine as well although I've noticed that within a few minutes of using the computer my brain has already tuned it out. You could take it to apple and see if they'll do anything with it, but for me tuning it out is much easier. I've had mine for about 3 months now and the whine has stayed about the same but definitely hasn't gotten worse/louder.

  • Has anyone noticed that Itunes 8 got rid of the artist list ...

Thanks so much. Before I went to bed I discovered this browser control in the tool bar.I believe it used to be somewhere in the itunes pane in the past though! Thanks! And it's hoggie not hoagie, what do I look like, a sub-sandwich? Don't answer that! mr h

  • Has anyone noticed that "Mail, Contacts

One two machines that I have, one brought brand new and one that I upgraded, neither allows me to set-up my contacts when I add my MobileMe account. Fortunately the MobileMe panel is still available and I can still sync my contacts. It's not my account specificially since the new machine is actually my wife's machine and has a completely seperate and distinct MobileMe account.
Is this a bug/oversight on Apple's part or am I missing something?

Did realize the subject would be cut off...
Yes, I am actually referring to the "Mail, Contacts & Calendars" preference panel. When I set it up it on the new machine I realized it only set up "Mail & Notes", Calendars & Reminders" and "Chat". When I went to look at my old machine which I did the direct upgrade on, I noticed that the contacts only came over because of MobileMe sync (well that and they were already on the machine).
So as far as I can tell Contacts can not be set up in the "Mail, Contacts & Calendars" preference...

  • Has anyone noticed that your Macbook Pro is really hot after installing Lion?

Since I have installed Lion on Friday, I have noticed that my MacBook Pro is very hot to the touch. Has anyone found this same issue?
Haven't had any of the problems that other people have had since installing.
What are your thoughts out there?
    Thanks,
    Michelle

I had this same concern on mine as well until I remembered that Lion would have to index the entire drive. My MBP is using an 120GB Intel SSD so once indexing started it did not take long, about 2 hours with the drive at 59GB, but it was warm the entire time.
My iMac (2011 version) ran hot for around 6 hours with the standard 1TB drive about half full.
Since then I have noticed they both run a few degrees hotter than before but nothing I am concerning myself with as it's right around 100 to 100 degrees versus 90 to 100 with SL. So I beleive there are some services running that are doing alot, probably the biggy is the autosave feature.

  • Has anyone noticed that imports are slower in Beta 4

I am using the same cards, card reader and workflow. It definitely seems slower. Anyone else.

Normally I wouldn't bother too much doing timing tests during the beta (especially the first one), but as the subject has been raised I've just done a comparative test (comparing LR2 to LR3 to LR4b). I used a CF card containg 224 images from by Canon 5DII, running on my Win7 64 bit desktop (i7-930 and 12gb of RAM),
and in all cases used 'Copy' to the same folder on the same internal drive, did not use "Second Copy", and rendered 1:1 previews.
In all three versions, the initial "Copy and Import" phase was more or less identical, as expected: LR2 was 6m 07s, LR3 was 6m exactly, LR4 was 5m 54s.
The timings for the preview rendering stage were:
    LR2: 9m 48s, an average of 2.62 seconds
    LR3: 13m 02s, an average of 3.49 seconds
    LR4: 14m 37s, an average of 3.91 seconds
Make of that what you will.....the jump from LR2 to LR3 was noted at the time, and was presumably due to the change in processing version. So on that basis the jump from LR3 to LR4 could be explained in the same way, although the relative increase is currently less than last time. It'll be interesting to see the speed in the general release version.
    Hope that helps.

Quite seriously, the servers themself are really the least likely
culprit here. Everything points to a much more wdespread problem
affecting pretty much everything on the network. That could be the
network itself, or some machine that has crapped out and overloads the
net, something like that. NW65SP8 / BM3.9 is extremely stable, including
    all included drivers.
