Has anyone purchased a 12-core MacPro yet?

I'm wondering if you have experienced significant increases in processing using current applications, such as Quicktime exports, FinalCut Pro renders, AfterEffects renders and general operations...
Thanks...

2010 Mac Pro 12-core @ 3.33GHz
FinalCutX isn't shipping is it? and the previous version was a dog behind the times.
What has twelve cores, twenty four threads, a brand new GPU, and still doesn't run Final Cut Pro that much faster than its predecessor? If you guessed "the 2010 Mac Pro ...  Ars reviews 12-core 2010
In general, 12-core isn't the best bang-buck, and the 6-core 3.33 is. In fact you can pick up a 2.8 4-core $2100 from Apple Store Specials, swap out cpu on your own for W3670 3.2GHz ($600)  for 50% boost.
RAM as in 3 x 8GB and an SSD will pay better dividends unless you have the video editing running 12-cores and 24-threads.

  • Has Anyone Gotten their 12 Core Mac yet?2.66 or 2.93 tested Logic on it?

Hey Guys, I'm one of those that still runs a ppc G5 with dual 2.5 and and SOOOO ready to upgrade, and I want the BIGGEST boy. though I've been reading that logic does not utilize all cores.. is that true? and approximately how much Power Gain will I enjoy if i'll be dropping 6+ K on a hardware unit? I aslo have a all the play instruments all spectrasonics, NI and So on, Im trying to wait and see all of them being tested with the new rig. I don't want to dicomision my studio for too long nor drop 6 g's just to find out none of the software works "just as of yet" for next half a year ...
Help me out here please I need some guidance
    Thanks
    Paul

Hey Paul, it doesn't look like anyone will be receiving their new machines before Aug 30th. so we all have to wait a little longer before we get benchmarks and reviews. If we look at "the present", Logic doesn't utilize more than 8 cores and reports have shown degraded performance with the 8 core "Nehalem" and Hyperthreading enabled (8 additional virtual cores). Granted, those results blow away my current Quad G5, it's still disappointing to those who spent so much money for a piece of hardware that can't be fully utilized. Who knows when Logic will effectively use more than 8 cores and what other bugs and "kinks" will have to be worked out? Also, we don't know if it will perform well with 6 cores, even with the hyper-threading disabled.
I'm in the same boat as you, I'm ready to buy a new machine. But I'm not shelling out a dime until I see some real usage reports and reviews.
If I were a betting man, I'd bet between September and October there's going to be a new version of Logic (probably 9.2) that utilizes more cores, probably at least 16. I imagine this because it would encourage more higher-end Mac Pro sales.

  • Has anyone purchased the iPhone 4 full retail price?

I'm currently thinking about purchasing the iPhone at the unsubsidized price which is $700 for the 32GB iPhone 4. But my upgrade is available until May 8 of this year.
I'm a kinda impatient person but working on being patient but I really do want the iPhone.
Has anyone bought the iPhone 4 at a unsubsidized price or was it subsidized?
I'm on a family plan also and my sister line (primary) and my mother line (month to month non contract) is available for upgrade. I can use those I hope...
    Thanks...

Many people on here have bought the iPhone at the full retail price because their upgrade wasn't up yet. In your situation, I would advise you to wait until May 8th, it's a lot closer than most people's and it's a substantial discount when you wait. You'll save $400. Or as you've pointed out, you can use your sister's or mother's upgrades right now if they don't mind, and then whoever's upgrade you take can use yours on May 8th. That would also be a very good choice, rather than purchasing the full retail iPhone.

  • Has anyone purchased the Hangover Part 2?

I was wondering if anyone has purchased the movie The Hangover Part 2? I purchased the movie, started watching it and the subtitle.."One Week Earlier" shows up on the screen. Now it stayed on the screen the entire movie!!!  On the DVD it only appeared for 3 seconds. Has anyone else had this experience? I have checked my settings. Both subtitles and closed captioning are turned off. I don't mind the subtitle being on there for 3 seconds like on the DVD. But it is very distracting being on for the ENTIRE movie!!
    Any suggestions???
    Thanks,
    Brian

  • Has anyone received Final Cut Studio 2 yet?

I just noticed that the Apple Store now says that Final Cut Studio ships in 3-5 business days. I've got one on order and I'm waiting anxiously--has anyone received it yet?

I just got it. Really cool, absolutely worth the price.
Only downside is the same legacy interface of Final Cut Pro... It's what pros are used to and I didn't expect a radical change but the truth is that FCP is the only with an OS-9 carbon feel (just look at the dialog windows, icons, etc.). It's not just a matter of eye-candy it's also a matter of usability and coherence with the other apps -born in OS X- of the Studio (Motion, Soundtrack, etc.). Let's hope this will come in version 7.

  • Has anyone purchased songs to download then they aren't playable?

There are a few songs that I've purchased in the last year that I can't play.
Has anyone else had this problem? Is it fixable?
    Thanks,
    Rebecca

Delete the broken copies and then redownload from your purchase history.

  • Has anyone purchased Centon ram?

    Hi,
I recently bought Kingston RAM for my Powerbook, and from what I've read on here, it's a piece of crap. So, I installed it, and found out for myself that it IS a piece of crap (my computer was freezing, wouldn't start up properly, etc.)
So, I was on the internet looking up "Apple Memory" and came across Centon. Has anyone heard of it, or are currently using it? I want to know if it's worth the money.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You had to have installed their Valueram, which doesn't work in PB's. Their normal memory, chosen through the selector on their web site, works fine.
Crucial and Samsung are two other brands that consistently work in PBs. Sorry, can't help specifically with your Centon query - if you haven't already you might do a seach on 'centon' in these discussions.

  • Has anyone purchased the new Ipod from Argos (uk) yet?

  • Has anyone purchased the Apple TV for Dummies book?

I saw this book yesterday at Border's and was half-tempted to purchase it since Apple does not offer a quality Apple TV user guide. But at $21.95 I thought I would ask here first to see if anyone has purchased the book...and to offer there opinion as to whether or not they think it is worth the money. Input anyone?
    Thanks.

The reason I say the Apple instructions are poor are seen in this example. Take a look at #4 & 5 here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305139#syncing . My Apple tabs do not look like that at all. They did in the 1.0 version but since downloading the new version the only tabs that appear are Summary and Photos. Despite what this link reads, I can no longer synch anything to Apple.
my tabs looks exactly like that.
the reason you only have 2 tabs is that you have set up itunes as a secondary library (you only get 2 tabs).... as a primary library you get all the tabs and the syncing functions. secondary libraries only provide streaming access.

  • Has anyone purchase a iMac product from amazon?

Im curious to know because i have some credit in amazon and the price is cheaper and of course i am able to avoid paying tax. So i was wondering if anyone has ordered a iMac amazon and has there been any negative affect? I would save about $230 which i could then apply to purchasing Apple care from Apple.

i read that lets say my whole desktop will need to be replaced i would have to get into contact with amazon.. as apposed to apple replacing it.
If that's true, that's a huge red flag to me. That implies that the computer they offer may be a grey-market item that does not qualify for a regular US Warranty from Apple. Run away, especially if this is an Amazon sub-vendor.
I'd look at Apple refurbs first:
    Refurbished Mac
You can often save more than US$300 and you have no doubts about service/support. You get the same warranty as buying new and also qualify for extended Apple Care coverage.
We just recently received what I think is our fifth refurb Mac, bought directly from the above site. All have been outstanding performers. The only difference between our refurbs and "new" was the price.

  • Has anyone purchased this song?

    Hello. I would like to know if anyone has purchased the following song;
    http://itunes.apple.com/au/album/finally-2008-kam-denny-paul/id296552084
I am asking this because I would like to know if anyone could send me a copy of the album cover. NOT the song. I am not a cheater. I pay for all of my music. I was able to get an MP3 of this track off of another website. I had to do so due to the fact that this song is not available in the USA iTunes Store. Because of that, the song has no album artwork. If anyone has purchased it, I would like to know if it is possible that you can send me a copy.
Thanks for any support and if anyone has any other ideas as to how I could get HQ iTunes artwork for this song, please let me know!

EDIT: I clicked onto the website, and I was told that due to copyright restrictions, I could not download the track in my country. I would've had to pay for it anyway, so it's okay. Thanks anyway.
    Thank you for your reply!
The reason why I choose not to download any random copy of the art online is because there are so many low-res copies and I want something of iTunes quality. I will see what the Juno Download has to offer. It seems interesting.

  • Has anyone solved the Apple ID issue yet?

My 4 year old iTunes ID, a Yahoo email, was disabled as I could not verify it. I could not verify it as I never received the verification email. I get the same problem when I try to reset. iForgot tells me the ID does not exist but when I try to set it up as a new ID I am told it is already in use. I have already removed the email from my .mac Apple ID. Apple support are not responding. Can anyone help? I have a lot of content tied to the Yahoo ID so I can not abandon it.

  • Refurbished from canon, with 90 day limited warrenty.Has anyone purchased.Any thoughts on this?

Hello..Just wondering if anyone here has bought refurbished product, and your input on the subject. There is some good holiday prices on some of there cameras, but refurbished..From Canon directly

Like a previous poster said, other than the white box, there's not much different.  If the full-retail version of a lens comes with a hood and case, so does the refurbished version of the same lens when you buy from the Canon store.  Same goes with the lens hood.
Those holiday prices are pretty good.  The discounts happen off and on through out the year.  I think they come in 15%-25% varieties.  But the inventory doesn't last very long.  If you follow blogs, some of them will relay the announcement of a discount's start.  Of the blogs I follow, http://www.the-digital-picture.com/News/ normally makes the first announcement.  You can add it to your RSS reader with http://www.the-digital-picture.com/News-RSS.aspx.
