Has anyone seen their connection improve recently?

Hi this isn't a complaint for once, i have had Infinty for at a guess 3-4 years, well after i upgraded to infinty 2 on speedtest i would  get around 15ms to the nearest server 50-51mb down and 16mb down.
I have had my probelms as most with BT where i have had disconnects or speeds on a couple of occasions dropping to 2mb!
Well any way i play alot of BF3 and usualy most UK servers i got 16ms i dont think i have ever had lower.
Until now UK servers for last couple of days have been 8ms! i wasn't sure wether this was a bug or something so done a speedtest today and i now get 7ms and 55mb down and same upload
So anyone else that have had Infinity for a while notice an improvement? have they replaced cables or something? i'm in Chelmsford Essex.
Thanks

I don't know folks but when I came home from work this evening my Internet was down and troubleshooting stated that the DNS sever wasn't responding so I tried resetting a few times but no joy as reset button wouldn't actually reset all lights remained solid which was strange so I just unplugged power to hub and reconnected which done the trick.
Then as a matter of interest I done a speedtest and tracert and got this but looks like routing has been changed as I've been on the forums before to see why speedtest always located me in Scotland when I'm actually in N.Ireland.
This is speedtests and tracert before today.

Althought in saying this my ping hasn't really improve (Yet!) but hopefully. So maybe and I'm only guessing the reason your speeds are better is due to a lot of people getting routed differently, be good to hear somebody else's opinion on this.
Opps! just looking over maybe ealing address is there it's just not in word form.

  • Has anyone seen their iPads using your wifi non-stop, even if you are not using it, even when it's closed with the smart cover?

Lately my internet usage is up to the roof. I though somebody was hacking my wireless router so I made it super safe with lots of restrictions.
But that didn't stop the download of stuff over my wireless network. When I monitor who or what is using my wirelss, only my iPad was on, so, the moment I turn the wifi off on my ipad, the download stop. Turn it back on, it goes like crazy sucking up data off my wireless router for no reason. There is no indicator that the iPad is using the wireless yet, it is my iPad downloading things that I can't even seen, it does even with smart cover on!!!!. It's been over 50GB in only three days. I don't even have that amount of data on iCloud.  This began a few days later after I upgraded my iOS to 6. But also, I'm thinking it could be an app that I installed. Or is it possible someone can use my iPad as a middle point to access my router and steal my internet. I have restored the OS on the iPad and it keeps doing it. Anyone has experienced something similar?

I'm going to guess that your battery life is also not so hot.  What I suspect is happening is thatbthe pad is locked into an update loop with I cloud.  As an example, if you have addresses that do not agree, the cloud back up will continue to try and correct itself, using both battery and wifi ( or cell).   It may also be an app trying to uzpdate itself.
To troubleshot, try turning thigs off.  If you are using the cloud, turn off all syncing and see it the problem stops.  Then turn them back on, one by one, until you find the culprit.  If it is an app, it may be harder to find, but the steps are the same.  Turn off all notifications, and uninstall anything you added around the time the problem started.
A frequent culprit is magazine, comic, and newspaper subscriptions, that are constantly trying to update themselves.
Keep looking, you will find it.

  • TS1398 Has anyone had WiFi connectivity issues with their iPhone 5 after accepting the latest IOS 8.0.2?

Has anyone had WiFi connectivity issues at home with their iPhone 5 after accepting the recent IOS 8.0.2 update?

Yes, despite being it an iPhone5 (8.0.2) attempting to connect to an Airport Express.
In my case the iPhone "connects" to Airport Express 2nd generation, but no Internet packages are available; Airport Utility shows the Airport Express as not connected to the Internet; but the iMac, MBP, Motorola phone, Samsung Smart TV and HP printer connect without any trouble.
The actual issue is the DHCP :
sometimes the iPhone gets none, and
when an address is assigned it just doesn't work,
even renewing the address won't work all the times,
switching off and on the WiFi won't work all the times neither,
going on Airplane mode, then back won't work all the times.
    Solutions attempted and failed:
    Reseting and reconfiguring Airport Express;
    Reseting iPhone;
    Switching off and on the iPhone;
    Setup the DHCP renewal for every 5 days;
    Meditation and stark visualisation;
Other possible patch not yet attempted : setting fixed IP addresses
All suggestions received resemble Windows' "Plug & Pray"
I gave up after reading several notes around the WWW complaining about it.
Last credible suggestion : wait for 8.0.3 or 8.1, whichever fixes the issue first.

  • My iPad will not connect to a computer with the cable which  means no updates or down loads. I have tried new cables and different computers. Has anyone seen this before?

Has anyone seen this issue before?

Possibly. Do you have other devices and will they connect?
One possible thing that it could be is that the USB port on your iPad has gone bad. It happened to mine. Couldn't sync, could barely charge (it said 'not charging' even when plugged into the wall)
I'd take it to the apple store, see if they can replicate it, and if they can, then they can diagnose it. Just back it up before you go, in case they do exchange it.

This sounds like a virus or malware program that has made its way onto your computer.  I would ensure you have the latest virus definitions on your computer and run a thorough (complete) scan of your system.  If this doesn't work, I would suggest  you use Microsoft's Malware Removal Tool.  You can download it at the link below.   Hope this helps.

  • Has anyone tried to connect their xbox?

Has anyone tired to connect their xbox using the wireless Networking Adapter? Every time I try, it tells me that it is not connected. Anyone have any suggestions?

I believe there is no issue connecting the Xbox 360 via Wired Ethernet (either an ethernet cable directly from Xbox 360 to TC, or via a wired Ethernet bridge). The problem is, as you said, when trying to connect wirelessly via the Xbox 360 Wireless USB adaptor.
Did Apple say anything more about the fix? Timescales? I'm itching to get a Time Capsule, but not until this issue is fixed.
Also, if I set the TC to 802.11n with backwards compatibilty (forget the exact option), will this slow the entire network down if I have a mixture of 802.11n and 802.11g devices connecting to it? I read somewhere that it will only slow the network down whilst the actual devices in question are transmitting. Is this correct?

Has anyone experienced internet connection problems through Comcast after taking a recent security update download from Apple??

Hello jessie029, and a warm welcome to the forums!
What browser do you connect with?
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then Open System Preferences>Network>Configure>Proxies Tab, make sure none are set, like for HTTP & HTTPS to use at Home, if you use it at 2 locations, just make a New Location for home.
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...

Then try putting these numbers in Network>TCP/IP>DNS Servers for the Interface you're using...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
Then Apply. These are safer/faster than most ISP's DNS numbers, and have been patched against DNS poisoning.

  • Has anyone taken their iPad 3 to Apple over Wi-Fi issues?

Has anyone taken their iPad (3rd Generation) Wi-Fi only model to an Apple store and tried to use AppleCare to solve their Wi-Fi issues?
    *Start: Problem/Rant*
I had an iPad 2 Wi-Fi only model and I never had an issue with it. When the iPad (3rd Generation) was released, I went ahead and bought it. However, from day one, I never had the wireless strength of my iPad 2.
I'm a college student, live in a dorm, and I am fairly tech savvy. This problem confused me for the longest, as no environmental factors had changed and my iPad 2 would still connect at full bars. I read on some forums that many new iPad 3 users had reported that their new iPad had poorer signal strength in general after running many different diagnostic test. Apparently the radio in the device isn't as good picking up reception as the iPad 2.
After conducting some dB tests of my own, I found this to be true indeed. But I could live with it, as my iPad (3rd Generation) still connected to Wi-Fi for my dorm (as I am close to an access point). However that wasn't the end of my problems. Anytime I watched Hulu, Youtube, or streamed a movie that was at least an hour long, my wireless signal would drop completely and would pause the video to give me a blue pop-up box stating that I had no Internet connection.
I noticed that my wireless icon had gone away, but after about 1 minute it reappeared. The video wouldn't resume, so I had to refresh the page and go back to where it got stuck previously. A minor inconvenience, but still a problem. The first time, I wrote it off as a legitimate Internet problem on my campus's part. However, the same problem occurred again, about an hour later. I quickly went to my computer and tested the connection and I still had Internet. After this point, I setup two wireless devices on the same network and waited for it to occur, and when it did, I was able to conclude that it was my iPad's fault.
In the interest of getting it to work and my own curiosity, I tried all the standard troubleshooting steps such as: Rebooting the iPad, restoring the iPad, connecting to various encryption types such as my campus WPA and WEP network types. I even got a wireless router with a direct Internet connection, turned off the encryption and tested this on different channels and even g/n networks. I still get one to two minute periodic wireless network drops.
I've had this iPad 3 since launch and aside from the Wi-Fi thing, it has been great, but it has finally gotten to me. The other day, I was running low on time and was uploading my professor's notes to Dropbox that I had recorded on my iPad when the signal gave out for it's regular wireless fail and it ruined a presentation. Yeah, first world problems, but when I paid so much for this and have invested so much of my own time to fix something that should of worked in the first place, it is kind of infuriating.
    /end rant
I am going to an Apple store tomorrow and using my AppleCare warranty while telling them my problem and hope that they can fix it. However I am worried that since it appears to be a hardware issue, that they won't be able to fix it. Also my iPad 3 has no screen protector and even though it is used, it is in perfect condition (I used a case for the exterior). I don't want a refurbished model which may have minor scratches (on a retina screen this would drive me insane). I am OCD about keeping my expensive stuff safe and scratch free. I know that I should of brought it in the moment I noticed the issue, but I was secretly hoping that it was just a bad firmware/software issue that would of been resolved with iOS 6.0 (obviously it wasn't) and my store doesn't accept returns on any Apple Products (Barnes & Noble) even if you open it in front of them, however they do offer AppleCare which is what I am hoping can fix it. I'm still within my year warranty, have the original receipt and box.
Does anyone have any experience with a similar issue or a wi-fi issue at all with the iPad (3rd Generation) and using AppleCare? I've read horror stories about employees doing terrible things and is it safe to not restore my iPad and just hand it over to them? I know this is just me being lazy, but is it alright for me not to delete/restore my iPad before handing it over to them? Like I don't have to worry about them posting on twitter or checking my email? After two semesters, it is kind of a hassle to put everything back on there, anyone have any bad experience just handing it over?
Lastly, is there anything I should do, before handing it over to them? Like taking pictures of what it looked like, before they handled it? Is there a way to register with Apple the MAC address of the iPad so they know that I am the owner? (well, I guess my email should be associated with that).
I know it is a long read, any questions answered would be appreciated (it doesn't have to be all), and if people want, I'll update on my experience with AppleCare regarding my issue and if it gets resolved.

I've seen a few posts from users that had wifi problems getting a replacement iPad.
A refurb iPad has a new screen, battery and back plus warranty.
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Has anyone seen this display problem?

I even changed my video card and still had the same issue? has anyone seen this or know how to fix this issue?
I tried to show a screen capture but didnt have any luck but the issue is alot of my icons are showing pink lines on them and when in certain application and safari the pictures are showing up all pixelated with pink and green pixels instead of displaying the correct image? is it possible the AGP slot is bad? i just upgraded to 10.5.8 hoping to correct the problem but no luck. Also this is a Power PC 1.8 ghz.
    Thank You

I wasn't notified that you asked me a question or that there was a new post on this topic. I should have been, that bugs me.
    Anyhow... Mr. Ah
The problem that some people, mostly with a certain video card, were having was when they updated from 10.5.4 to 10.5.5. For many of them the problem went away when they went through the hassle of reverting back to 10.5.4.
Did you +just recently+ update to 10.5.5? If you have, then their fix is for you too, going back to 10.5.4. If you have had 10.5.5 installed for a while now, and this just started happening, chances are good that it is your video card, or perhaps something affecting it like dust and dirt like DP says above.
If you have another start up drive, firewire or internal, and you had enough space on it you might consider installing a previous OS 10.5 on there and start up from it. If the problem went away you would know it's 10.5.5. Perhaps even if you started up from your OS disc the problem might go away and again you'd know it was 10.5.5. Apple was made aware of the problem on some machines and said they were going to come out with a fix, but I don't think they ever did.
Post back and say what the situation is, especially if you just recently updated to 10.5.5.
And post back with what kind of G5 you have, look in the "About this Mac" window.
Your card may be dying, but on the other hand it might be as easy as pulling it out, blowing it out, and putting the card back in again.

  • Has anyone seen evidence of corrections being made to Maps?

If it was just you, then it would be understandable because Apple might be swamped with requests to correct their Maps app and they might be attending to other users' requests first.
That scenario would be awesome, because it would mean that there are corrections being made, even if they are not yours. But there is a problem. Everybody I've asked hasn't seen ANY corrections done. I hope this is not true.
So.... the question is: Can we find evidence of any corrections at all? Even one correction?
When we look at the millions... MILLIONS of user correction requests, has anyone seen a SINGLE correction done out of MILLIONS of requests.  Because ZERO out of MILLIONS of requests would be very bad.
I want the Maps app to improve. I'm cheering Apple and supporting Apple. If the Maps app improves, then I would be happy and Apple users would be happy. The question is: has anyone seen any corrections??
I'm hoping there are many examples out there of people seeing corrections.

  • Has anyone seen this MacBook Pro 15" 2008 problem before?

Hi. My MacBook Pro has developed a fault whereby a horizontal line appears on the screen, the mac freezes then a host of vertical lines gradually appear on the screen until it is obscured. Something similar happened in May last year and Apple charged me over £300 to repair it, replacing the 'mother board'.
I have so far taken it into the Apple shop twice in the last week (a two hour round trip). Both times they have opened it, cleaned it and declared it fixed. This time it lasted about an hour before happening again, although this time at least I've been able to restart it.
Has anyone seen this before, or have any advice about how best to proceed?
I have put a video of the symptoms here:

I did a force-quit because I did not want to click either button.
I reset Safari, and ran the DNSChanger Removal Tool
from macupdate, but it didn't find anything. I have not loaded codecs from any websites and I had just completed the latest Apple updates for OSX, Quicktime and iTunes before this problem occured.
Has anyone seen this? Is this serious? I've never had any problems with Safari before this.

Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger automatically checks your downloads for malicious software and content that could harm your system or collect information from your computer. You can read more about that here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2340
If you feel you need added protection, read on:
SecureMac has introduced a free Trojan Detection Tool for Mac OS X. It's available here:
    http://macscan.securemac.com/
The DNSChanger Removal Tool detects and removes spyware targeting Mac OS X. Called DNSChanger Trojan and also known as OSX.RSPlug.A Trojan Horse, the software attacks users attempting to play a fake video file.
Upon attempting to play the video, the victim receives the following message:
“Quicktime Player is unable to play movie file.
Please click here to download new version of codec.”
Upon running the installer, the user's DNS records are modified, redirecting incoming internet traffic through the attacker's servers, where it can be hijacked and injected with malicious websites and pornographic advertisements. The trojan also installs a watchdog process that ensures the victim's DNS records stay modified on a minute-by-minute basis.
SecureMac's DNSChanger Removal Tool allows users to check to see if the trojan has been installed on their computer; if it has, the software helps to identify and remove the offending file. After a system reboot, the users' DNS records will be repaired.
There may be other ways of guarding against Trojans, viruses and general malware affecting the Mac. A white paper has recently been published on the subject by SubRosaSoft, available here:
    http://www.macforensicslab.com/ProductsAndServices/index.php?mainpage=document_general_info&cPath=11&productsid=174
    Also, beware of MacSweeper:
MacSweeper is malware that misleads users by exaggerating reports about spyware, adware or viruses on their computer. It is the first known "rogue" application for the Mac OS X operating system. The software was discovered by F-Secure, a Finland based computer security software company on January 17, 2008
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MacSweeper
On June 23, 2008 this news reached Mac users:

The latest news on the subject, from July 25, 2008, is:
Attack code that exploits flaws in the net's addressing system are starting to circulate online, say security experts.
The code could be a boon to phishing gangs who redirect web users to fake bank sites and steal login details.
In light of the news net firms are being urged to apply a fix for the loop-hole before attacks by hi-tech criminals become widespread.
Net security groups say there is anecdotal evidence that small scale attacks are already happening.

  • TNS name resolution mystery - has anyone seen this one???

    'Afternoon everyone,
Has anyone seen a problem like this? I'm trying to access a (remote) database from a PC. I can successfully test the connection to the DB via the Net8 Assistant, but when I try to get there via sqlplus (with the same service name), I'm getting an "ORA-12154 - TNS: could not resolve service name" error.
    Huh?
    Thanks,
    Len DiMaggio

It seems you have multiple tnsnames.ora files. You can set TNS_ADMIN to point to the oracleDB home and it should be ok.

  • Express cards/34 (EVDO and others) due in May or June, has anyone seen any?

According to several sites, EVDO express cards are due in May or June that are definitely MAC compatible. (PC mag this morning >news and analysis > Novatel to launch first EVDO...)
On another thread, someone referenced SATA cards due out in May or June also.
The Novatels will be Sprint or Verizon originally and HSPDA later but will definitely be for the MBP as well as pc intel core duos.
Has anyone seen any non-vaporware expresscard/34s right now?
These actually existing and functional will make the difference for me and others waiting to transition to the MBP. I bought the G415 after the MBPs were already out because I needed my EVDO data coverage.

Feb 07 is the rumor for Sprint - Novatel Express/34. Been in the pipeline for a year.
However, it will not be natively Mac compatible - possibly not Mac compatible at all. The wireless connection manager software has not been ported to Macintosh yet.
The Novatel U760 USB modem, on the other hand, is available now, $50 after rebate, and works with Macs quite easily. 1.1Mbit/sec download on EVDO RevA networks.
