Has anyone successfully installed OSX, Windows 7 and Linux on macbook pro 8, 2

I just want to know before I take a shot at this, if there are any success storys of this or similar model macbook pro
also i want to do this while having a shared partition for music movies and pics to share between the 3 os's
also i would prefer all efi, but understand that i will most likely have to at least have windows in bios mode
so please post your fails and successes as this may help me
idk if any tianocore bootduet works on macbook pro either if anyone knows more about that please post
and i will post my results and attempts
also the linux i will use will most likely be ubuntu
one more thing, when i first got this macbook, the superdrive wasnt recognised in ubuntu so it would boot, then fail while trying to load the files
so i tried many things, couldnt get even cd combined with usb to work, so i waited, now with the recent release of 12.04 LTS, ubuntu will boot just fine on my macbook so i know it can now be done

No problem installing on my windows 7 x64 systems.  Try uninstall AIR seperateley and then reinstalling it.  Then reinstall IB.  Note the more recent help systems also run Air so you can test that as well.
I believe this is the url for air (or try off the adobe home page)
http://www.adobe.com/go/EN_US-H-GET-AIR
you need to make sure you get the most recent as IB and AIR are more current then the ELEMents installs.
Don't uninstall elements.

Has anyone successfully installed a SimpleWifi antennae on OS 10.6.8?

Looking at their website I don't see any driver section.  For USB that would be especially important.  Direct to ethernet though wouldn't typically be a problem.  I would contact their support and ask what they have available for your machine, and/or your WiFi router you use.  The router is whatever distributes the internet wirelessly from your modem (sometimes the modem itself).  If you are trying to pickup someone else's WiFi, note the security of it may not always be reliable unless you know their WPA2 password is fairly good.

  • HT5628 Has anyone successfully installed Windows 8.1 through bootcamp?

Need help installing Windows 8.1 through bootcamp.   I would appreciate any guidance since bootcamp is asking for the iso file?  How can I get the iso file onto the usb drive?

    Short answer: I cheated.
I'm running a Macbook Pro 15" Retina display without an optical drive. Fortunately, I also have a Windows 7 box that I used to create a .iso from my Windows 8.1 Pro DVD, and transfered that onto a USB Flash Drive that I let Boot Camp Assistant work with to create the volume needed to set up Boot Camp and install Windows 8.1.
I read some articles that talked about being able to download an .iso from Microsoft directly. You might want to search online or the Microsoft site to find out options for downloading the correct .iso from them. As long as you already have the product key you purchased, it's not like they lose a sale.
Other than that, I couldn't figure it out.
If you're on an iMac or have a SuperDrive there may be options within Disk Utility to read the Windows 8.1 DVD and create a .iso file from there.
Can't swear to it, but if I couldn't have "cheated" those were the things I'd have investigated.
    Good luck!

  • Has anyone successfully installed AIR on Huawei Ideo U8150 running android 2.2?

    Hi,
I am trying to get AIR apps running on a Huawei Ideo U8150.  When I sync with AppBrain, I see Adobe Air show up as an installable App, but when I go to install the Aop, I get an "Item not found" message.
Has anyone had a more successful experience with tyring to install AIR on this model of phone?

This is not an Android 2.2 issue. Your device can't run Adobe AIR because it doesn't have a compatible processor. This is why AIR doesn't show up in the standard Android Marketplace search from that phone.
AppBrain unfortunately isn't tuning out incompatible apps, which is why you can see it there even though you can't run it. There's a few similar posts around this forum for other devices.
Devices need an ARMv7 processor, you have an ARMv6 (http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=cpu&id=a7201a&c=qualcomm_msm7201a).
Ouch, hope you haven't blown your cash on this

I posted earlier about some problems my pc was having, I think it's the video card so I'm looking to replace it with a gtx680m. All of the searching I've done has only brought me to posts with people having problems using the gtx680m in the GT70 0ND 444US, mostly due to nvidia bsod's. So.. Has anyone gotten a gtx680m to work in a GT70 0ND 444US?

  • Has anyone successfully installed 4 WD Velociraptors in a new MACPRO???

This has been a long and very painful month...
About a month ago I received my brand new 2.93GHZ 8 core MacPro tower with Apple Raid Card installed. I purchased 4 brand new Western Digital Velociraptors 10k 300GB drives to install in the 4 bays of the Mac. Bay 1 would contain the system drive and Bays 2-4 would be in a RAID5 configuration.
After installing the drives and booting up I got a RAID Disk Failure message from the Apple RAID utility on Bay 3. I instantly thought I had a bad Hard Drive so I shut down the system and swapped drives 3 and 4 to see if that drive would fail in Bay 4. Upon bootup the drive in Bay 3 failed again. Curious...
I called Apple Care and they sent an on site tech guy to replace my RAID card with a brand new one. After installation the exact same problem occured... The drive in Bay 3 failed. It was then decided that I must have a bad SATA connection on the Logic Board and they would swap out my old Mac for a new Mac Pro.
Great!!! I was happy with the Apple care people and felt confident that this would remedy the problem... Unfortunately my RMA fell through the cracks and I ended up getting my new mac 3 weeks later.....
Well yesterday I received the new mac and installed the four drives, booted up and everything was perfect... I then created a 3 drive RAID 5 with bays 2-4 and it worked swimmingly.... Until I rebooted... Guess what reared its ugly head...
Bay 3 had failed to boot and my raid was broken again... So here is where it gets tricky...
I powered down then took the stock Hitachi hard drive that came with the mac and put it into bay 3. So i have 3 WD Raptors (no OS) in bays 1 2 and 4 and the Mac system drive in bay 3. I restart the computer and it tells me that Bay 2 has failed to launch...GEESH!!
So I then pull all drives out and place the WD raptor with the OS in bay 1 and test the other 3 drives individually in bay 2 and they all boot up fine. Apple blames Western Digital and Western Digital blames Apple of course...
Western Digital only ahs diagnostic software that runs on PC and will only replace my drives with refurbs (not cool in my book) and I have already replaced 3 raid cards and 2 mac pros... I cant return drives since its over 30 days cuz I was waiting on my new mac to come in...
So as a man at his wits end and not wanting to eat the 929.00 dollars in Hard drives begs and pleads to this board if they have any insight or ideas?
    Pretty Please???

    Hi Pedro,
I imagine you have been through a nightmare. I don't know everything about this so I thought we could thrash it about a little.
Why are you considering trashing the disks? Why are you not considering trashing the very expensive, I think, Apple card?
First in sounds like the LB, and then a disk, then back to the LB again. But it doesn't sound like all the disks, and, the LB,.. bad on two macs? Could be, or broken by their very own card.
But if I'm reading correctly, you put all the disks in bay 2 and they all work...
I'm not sure you can set up the RAID you want using Disk Utility, but maybe it's worth taking out the Apple card and seeing how the drives perform then. I mean if they even work ok.
I know from experience that it is possible to fill ones MP with Velociraptors and have things work very fine indeed. But I used DU to set up my RAIDs. As it is now I have VRs attached to a Sonnet E4P, the disks in external enclosures. And I put them in an array with Disk Utility also.
One thing I'm thinking though, if you found the card, which has mixed reviews if I remember correctly, was the obstacle to getting your drives to work. If by taking it out everything worked fine, then I don't know what Apples recourse would be. Unless they pulled, or are pulling what Firmtek did to me.
When I bought their 2 channel card and their EN2 bay, my VRs wouldn't work on the card. Not only that but they started to burn up. I called Firmtek and they said, "Sorry, we never tested those drives."
"those drives"? They are fast but vastly different from "normal" drives? Maybe, I don't know.
So if you haven't already, take out the card and see how things work. Maybe it will turn out to be the LB again, maybe only one of the drives is bad. (a VR going bad?)
In any case, get that card out, and if things work then, go to town on Apple.
Good luck. Post back on what's what.

  • Has anyone successfully installed JAXM 1.1.2 with JWSDP 1.2?

I'm unable to get the /jaxm-provider app from jaxm 1.1.2 running on jwsdp 1.2. Tomcat gives a failure message when I try to start the app manually but no detailed error message is logged. The jaxm samples that do not use a messaging provider are working fine. Has anyone else gotten the jaxm 1.1.2 provider to run?
    Thanks,
    Mike

Problem solved. I had installed Axis 1.1 as a web app. log4j-1.2.8.jar is copied to JWSDP_HOME/common/lib as part of the Axis installation. When I removed that jar, /jaxm-provider started with no problem. Axis complains about the missing jar but it seems to work anyway.

  • Has anyone else had a problem with closing their Macbook Pro (latest model) and after you open it back up the internet shows as connected but won't pull up websites whatsoever?

Occasionally, I will close my Macbook Pro when I'm not using it, and when I reopen it my wireless network shows as being connected, but the internet will not function whatsoever.  I tried disabling the WIFI and re-enabling it but the problem persisted.  Ultimately I have to just restart then everything works fine.  I even tested my cell phone (which uses my home WIFI also) and was able to pull up websites, which isolates the problem to the computer.
Seems like after the computer goes on Standby or Sleep, it only has the trouble immediately after.  Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks so much but none of that helped.  It was driving me crazy because it would back up another external drive.  I just changed the name of the drive from iPhoto/iTunes Library to Media Libraries and IT WORKED!! I guess for some reason it didn't like the drive being called iPhoto or iTunes ???? I don't understand but I have tried so many solutions and exchanging things out but the name change did it????!!!
Thank you for your help and replying to this.  Guess I made my own issue!

  • Has anyone downloaded the latest update of iMovie on macbook pro, and get the message in the app store "iMovie failed to update".

I have updated the imovie app on my macbook pro, which took a few times to complete. The app works fine, but the update does not show in my purchases on the app store. Is anyone else having this issue?

    Try running the combo updater.

  • Has anyone switched from a PC notebook to a MacBook Pro?

I am a PC user who is considering switching my 1-year old Toshiba notebook to a MacBook Pro. My reasons for doing so are:
    (1) I would like to simplify the number of applications from various vendors on my computer in order to reduce software conflicts and memory "hogs" that run in the background.
    (2) I have heard that MacBooks are much more secure -- so much so that anti-virus software isn't even usually required. (However, I'm not sure what the constraints are when running a Mac on a home wireless network in conjunction with a desktop PC computer.)
    (3) My understanding is that working with photo's is much more effective with a Mac than a PC. I currently run ACDSee Pro and PhotoShop Elements, and the former has really slowed down my system.
    (4) I've been told that any type of setup -- be it new software, connecting to a network, or finding a wireless Internet connection -- is very easy and straight forward.
If anyone has experience with switching from a PC notebook to a MacBook Pro, I would appreciate hearing your opinion on doing so, both positive and negative. Alternatively, if you know of a good Web site that provides this type of information, please point me to the URL.
    Thank you!
    ~Kelly

    Hello,
I switched from a Pentium 4 2.2GHz Dell laptop to a Intel CD 2GHz MacBook Pro.
This what I found (the good):
    - the spotlight search on a mac is soo much better and faster compared to a windows search.
    - No need for all those extra programs that scan you PC for virusses, spyware, mallware,...
    - No need to download additional drivers or programs before you can do anything.
    - No third pary software that messes up the whole system. Apple software appears to be more reliable, even from third parties.
    - Backlight keyboard with shaped keys
    - You can do more with a mac trackpad than with a windows trackpad. It does not bother me when I forget the mouse on my desk. The trackpad scrolls and has a "right mouse button" as well.
    - Multitasking without systemwide slow downs.
    - I have an iPod, so iTunes is all I need/want.
What I also found (the bad):
    - the screen resolution on my Dell was higher.
    - Some apps still need Rosetta (office, photoshop,...). If pictures are your thing, iPhoto is no replacement for Adobe photoshop.
    - I sometimes miss the picure viewer thing you have in windows XP. When you select picures and open them, they open in a window with nice back/forward controls,...
The Preview app in Mac just isn't the picture viewer I hoped it would be. But maybe that's just me...
    - there is a lot more freeware for PC than for Mac. This can also be a good thing for Apple if you consider that most of these freeware things are crap anyway...
    - iChat only works with specific accounts and other iChat programs. I hoped it would be a more "universal" chat program without these limitations. To chat to windows people you need a serious work-around (jabber) or just use MSN messenger.
    - no good at games unless you have bootcamp and a windows CD.
Overall: I would not go back to windows. I really like the MacBookpro and OSX.
I have to say that I was not unsatisfied with windows, so I will not trash it. It always worked well for me and did't crash. Programs crashed, but windows did not. I believe a lot of these crashes are due too crappy third party software installed by the user at their own risk...
I'm saying this to let you know that I happely use the 2 systems, but the mac wins for me. OSX is nice to work with and nice to look at.
    Hope this helps...

  • My friend have new Macbook Air with OSX Mavericks and I have Macbook Pro with OSX Mountain Lion, Can I create a bootable maverick in pendrive from macbook air and perform a clean installation/update on my macbook pro with osx mountain lion?

I have late 2012 edition Macbook Pro, I have a internet connection with does not run smoothly It gets disconnected and reconnects Thus I failed everytime when I update my OSX Mountain Lion to Mavericks in App Store. My friend just bought 2013 end Macbook Air whicch have OSX Mavericks pre installed.
I was hoping if I can create a OS X version in pendrive from his laptop and use that to install and thuss also update OS on my Mountain Lion.
Kindly explain me in detail how to perform this.
I have already taken back up of all files and I am ready to total clean my laptop.
And I want to update to Maverick so I can thus further update to upcoming OS X Yosemite.

The Mavericks on the Air is probably machine specific since it came pre-installed, so it wouldn't work on your computer. See if your friend will let you access the App Store, where you can sign in using your Apple ID and download the installer. You can use this free program to copy the installer and update your computer.

  • Anyone successfully using an LG  Monitor with a Macbook Pro?

I am considering an LG L226WQT to use with our MBP and Powermac G5. I have been told that LG monitors don't work well with Macs, but I have not found any actual information suggesting this.

I just got the HP LP2275w, and I'm not able to get it to detect the signal from the Mac. I may be missing something entirely, since my MacBook Pro is also new and my primary computer was a Windows machine before. Anyone have any tips on getting this monitor going with a MacBook Pro?

  • Has anyone actually used PS CS6 with the new Macbook pro?

There has been an awful lot of discussion about how the new macbook will work with CS6, mostly talk about the UI, but has anyone used it?  How does it work with the retina display (other than the UI)?  Yes, Adobe is going to make it retina compatible and we don't know if they will charge for the upgrade or not.  But I'd like feedback from someone who is using the new Macbook pro with CS6.
    Thanks!

Thanks.  I have scoured the forums and nobody has used it - or if anyone has, they haven't said squat.  Anyway, I took the plunge, downloaded the app and it is absolutely stunning on my rMBP.  Even though, as you say, it is at the pixel representation I've always had.  I can't wait until the update and full retina representation.
It is fast as blazes, sharp as a tack.  A beautiful thing.  I'll play with it some more to see how it performs.  But so far with some short tests, the rendering is almost instantanious and the colors are brilliant.
    So far, so good.

  • Can't open CD that came with a textbook. CD is for Windows and I have MacBook Pro

There was CD that came along with a textbook I recently purchased. The CD states it is for Windows 95/98/2000/XP. Is there anything out there that would enable me to open it on my MacBook Pro? iPhone? iPad (1)? Someone in my class mentioned something about "wine" or "win e" but I haven't been able to determine what that means. Any help is appreciated. I'd really like to use the CD for studying.

An inexpensive program called Crossover Mac can be used to create an environment in which some (by no means all) Windows-based software can run on a Mac without the expense and hassle of actually installing Windows on it. Crossover Mac is available in a free demo version that you can try out to see whether it enables the software on your CD to run. If that doesn't work out, you'll need to install Windows on your Mac.
    http://www.codeweavers.com/products/crossover/
I believe Crossover is a supported and somewhat more user-friendly implementation of Wine, which is open-source and not supported.
