Has anyone switched from reseller bt fttc product ...

Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with a BT wholesale fibre probuct from a reseller? I myself had switched a month ago from a reseller to BT retail and I have noticed some differences on how the DRM behaves.

Sure. Interleaving was switch off and up/down was 6meg higher. Since joining bt retail I have not experienced any changes to my line. Latency has always been around the 30ms mark.
My old isp explained to me in laymans terms how the DRM worked and they were right. Everything they said would happen, happened but the DRM now just doesnt behave the same way.
Just wondering if anyone else noticed this? Maybe DRM needs more time. I'm sure it was quicker to adjust when i was with my old isp.

        Hi seabee1,
I heard some folks switching over from that carrier but winding up getting new devices. Did you port your number over to our network? If so, did we suggest getting a new device? Share some details.

  • Has anyone switched from Parallels 4 to VM Fusion 3 - What do you think?

I am considering the jump, as I have been really impressed with VM Ware's instructional videos. The product looks solid.
Has anyone else made the jump? What do you think?
    Thanks!

I've been playing with them both on the same machine because I had the Fusion 3 beta. My experience has been through accessing Boot Camp.
Both do a fine job of accessing Boot Camp, but I found that Parallels is less of a headache than Fusion because every time you boot in to fusion it asks for a password, and if you are not running as administrator then you are asked for the password several times. If you are no an administrator, and do not know the administrator password then I am not sure how you can use fusion. Parallels does not seem to ask for this, which means you can set Parallels to start up the virtual machine and it does so without trouble.
I did notice that Parallels triggers reactivations of the Microsoft software, which is annoying. I have not tried fusion with Windows 7, so do not know what will happen with that. Interestingly, Parallels works OK with fusion installed as well, but Fusion did not seem to like Parallels. The reason I have both is that I got Fusion 2 with my Macbook and parallels 4 free with a MacUpdate package.
I found that bi-directional copy and paste seemed to work more cleanly in Parallels than Fusion, but I see little or no difference between their general operation. It is hard to tell if there is a speed difference. Parallels does not support AERO on Windows 7, but who cares about that?
The upgrade cost from Fusion 2 to 3 and from Parallels 3 to 4 are both reasonable, but it seems like fusion is $10 less expensive at $39. Those of us in education get it for $19, which means I might pay to upgrade anyway.
I am a long time Fusion user, I switched to Fusion and really liked it, but right now I am also happy enough with Parallels and cannot tell any real difference other than easier startup. One thing that is really nice about fusion, that could take me back is that they have a menu bar icon to access the start menu and it is really slick. Parallels relies on the dock icon and it is flakey.

  • Has anyone switched from a PC notebook to a MacBook Pro?

I am a PC user who is considering switching my 1-year old Toshiba notebook to a MacBook Pro. My reasons for doing so are:
    (1) I would like to simplify the number of applications from various vendors on my computer in order to reduce software conflicts and memory "hogs" that run in the background.
    (2) I have heard that MacBooks are much more secure -- so much so that anti-virus software isn't even usually required. (However, I'm not sure what the constraints are when running a Mac on a home wireless network in conjunction with a desktop PC computer.)
    (3) My understanding is that working with photo's is much more effective with a Mac than a PC. I currently run ACDSee Pro and PhotoShop Elements, and the former has really slowed down my system.
    (4) I've been told that any type of setup -- be it new software, connecting to a network, or finding a wireless Internet connection -- is very easy and straight forward.
If anyone has experience with switching from a PC notebook to a MacBook Pro, I would appreciate hearing your opinion on doing so, both positive and negative. Alternatively, if you know of a good Web site that provides this type of information, please point me to the URL.
    Thank you!

    Hello,
I switched from a Pentium 4 2.2GHz Dell laptop to a Intel CD 2GHz MacBook Pro.
This what I found (the good):
    - the spotlight search on a mac is soo much better and faster compared to a windows search.
    - No need for all those extra programs that scan you PC for virusses, spyware, mallware,...
    - No need to download additional drivers or programs before you can do anything.
    - No third pary software that messes up the whole system. Apple software appears to be more reliable, even from third parties.
    - Backlight keyboard with shaped keys
    - You can do more with a mac trackpad than with a windows trackpad. It does not bother me when I forget the mouse on my desk. The trackpad scrolls and has a "right mouse button" as well.
    - Multitasking without systemwide slow downs.
    - I have an iPod, so iTunes is all I need/want.
What I also found (the bad):
    - the screen resolution on my Dell was higher.
    - Some apps still need Rosetta (office, photoshop,...). If pictures are your thing, iPhoto is no replacement for Adobe photoshop.
    - I sometimes miss the picure viewer thing you have in windows XP. When you select picures and open them, they open in a window with nice back/forward controls,...
The Preview app in Mac just isn't the picture viewer I hoped it would be. But maybe that's just me...
    - there is a lot more freeware for PC than for Mac. This can also be a good thing for Apple if you consider that most of these freeware things are crap anyway...
    - iChat only works with specific accounts and other iChat programs. I hoped it would be a more "universal" chat program without these limitations. To chat to windows people you need a serious work-around (jabber) or just use MSN messenger.
    - no good at games unless you have bootcamp and a windows CD.
Overall: I would not go back to windows. I really like the MacBookpro and OSX.
I have to say that I was not unsatisfied with windows, so I will not trash it. It always worked well for me and did't crash. Programs crashed, but windows did not. I believe a lot of these crashes are due too crappy third party software installed by the user at their own risk...
I'm saying this to let you know that I happely use the 2 systems, but the mac wins for me. OSX is nice to work with and nice to look at.
    Hope this helps...

  • Has anyone switched from IronMail to IronPort?

I'm currently in the process of evaluating both IronPort and IronMail appliances. I was hoping some of you had switched to IronPort from IronMail and would be willing to share your experiences including pros and cons you've seen and what made you leave IronMail to go with IronPort.
    Thanks in advance.

Echoing what lvde said, there are many, many IronMail ripouts in IronPort's history ranging from small companies to some of the largest organizations in the world. But some of the customers who have replaced IronMail have policies not to publicly disclose their security vendors or vendor selection decisions. Since I don't know which customers have what policies I can't share these customer names but your local IronPort account team can get you a list of relevant customers that are OK with their names being shared. Some of these customers may also be willing to tell you their decision justification.

  • Has anyone gone from a camera similar to the SX200 to the G15 or G16 and what have you thought?

I have the SX 200 and am not satisfied with the reaction time.
I am looking into the G16 but am reluctant to spend $450 on it
not really knowing if it is worth it.
Has anyone gone from a camera similar to the sx200 to the g16 and was
    it worth it?
    thanks
    Karen

I assume you're shooting his swing which is a form of action photography. If I'm right the best way to improve your results is to improve your technique, which costs nothing but takes a bit of thinking & practice. Thinking because you need to understand what settings fit the situation & how to set the camera to them. Technique comes into play when it comes to holding the camera STEADY, which is rarely done while using the LCD to frame the shot if hand holding. I don't own either of your choices but have a G9 which I've used for years but mostly as my underwater camera but even it would be an improvement over your SX200. The SX200 has a "slow" lens (f3.5 max aperture) while the G16 has f1.8 which is twice as fast (requires half the light all other settings being the same) which means under the same lighting conditions the G16 will use a shutter speed that's twice as fast as the SX200 would. Right now you only get 1 FPS (frame per second) while the G16 can do from 6 to 12 FPS depending on settings & having good light. More importantly it has a viewfinder (electronic) which allows you to hold it against your face to frame & time the shot AND keeps it more stable. You would however loose some of your current lens reach because the G16 only has about 1/2 the telephoto reach.
If you take the time to read these articles I've wrote for a couple of other forums I belong to it might help you understand why things work the way they do & why developing technique is the key to better photos.

  • Has anyone moved from mobileme to icloud?

    Hi
Am a bit worried about mopving from mobileme to icloud as I dont want to lose my iweb site. Im aware that Ill have to change it by next June, but has anyone moved over and if so are your iweb sites still working in the meantime.?
    many thanks

To add to Ethmoid's post: it is now confirmed that iWeb, and iDVD, has been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. However, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken.  If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
It now appears that the iLife suite of applications offered on disc is now a discontinued product and the remaining supported iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on. However, the iLife 11 boxed version that is still available at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD. Those two apps were listed in small, gray text on the iLife 11 box that I bought.
Personally, if I didn't already have a copy I would purchase one to have it for reinstallation purposes if ever needed.

  • Has anyone restored from Time Machine and Application permissions okay?

    Greetings Apple Discussions:
Has anyone restored their system from Time Machine yet and had a successful restore of their application permissions from Time Machine?
I just wanted to get confirmation.

I've done several. In fact I did many during beta testing and I've done at least one after installing 10.5 and 10.5.1. Each one done under 10.5 and 10.5.1 were successful without any noticeable issues with permissions.

  • Has anyone moved from Sky to BT Vision - opinions ...

Hi. My Sky contract is up at the end of July and I want to move to BT vision.
I'm wondering has anyone gone through this process and what are your thoughts on the new service?
How did the transition go? How much are you saving? What are the call centres like (I know they have Indian call centres like Sky I've heard that you need to keep the STB on all the time. Is this true?
Also, does the router need to be near the tv? This wouldn't be possible in the place I live at the moment. Would a wireless bridge work?
Basically all I'm watching is Sky Sports 1 and 2 (I also have SS3 and 4 which I don't watch) and Freeview, plus I've got BB,HD + 2 pack, and I'm paying £63.50. Its just too much.
I'm hoping moving to BT Vision I could cut my bill in half.
    Cheers.

Many thanks for everyones replies they have been most helpful
I cancelled Sky last night and got my MAC code!  Should be disconnected at the end of July.
How long will it take from placing an order with BT to getting package and STB in the post?  I'm thinking of ordering at the beginning of July.
About the STB issues I wold rather turn it off.  It will be connected to an 8 way power adapter with amps and 50 inch tv etc all connected.  I really don't want to leave all that on standy when I'm out.   I never schedule record never and I don't mind waiting to for the box to boot up, even if it takes 5 minutes.
    Cheers.

  • Trackpad jumpy. Not able to use MacBook.  Has anyone heard from Apple on this pervasive issue?

My late 2008 13" MacBook (Snow Leopard) has become so erratic that it is almost impossible to use.  (Using another MacBook now).
Hard to believe it is not an OS or update issue since it appears to be very pervasive.  Anyone heard from Apple??
Any fix other than 3-prong plugs and dusty corners?  (Wipe the trackpad many time and the apple power cord is already 3-prong).

Some users have reported issues with battery expansion causing problems with their trackpads. Try removing the battery and testing the MacBook while using just the power cord. If this works, replace the battery.
    Best of luck.

  • Ebay Battery - Has anyone bought from sellers in Hong Kong no problems.

and I am wondering if I should go with the Ebay option. I don't want to spend 200 dollars on an aging laptop, 30 bucks is more reasonable, but is it safe?
Has anyone has any experience to share? The sellers reviews have been mainly positive.

I don't want to spend 200 dollars on an aging laptop, 30 bucks is more reasonable, but is it safe?
Meet with the person and have a look at the date on the battery. If it is over two years old, don't buy it.
http://www.macsales.com/ offers batteries often for less than Apple and so does http://www.welovemacs.com/ Both are more reliable than any eBay seller.

  • Has anyone migrated from 10.7 Server to 10.8 Server using Drupal?

I migrated my server, which in addition to hosting a couple of traditional web sites also has a multi-site Drupal 7 installation, and now I'm regretting it big time.
I had to futz with the settings to get the traditional web sites back on line, but the Drupal sites broke hard. Couldn't even load the user login screen, nothing but streams of error messages.  Now I'm in the midst of trying to revert to Lion Server again (including having to re-partition and re-install Lion to get rid of the 10.8 recovery partition) and keeping fingers crossed I can get back to what was working. Still a couple of hours to go on the Time Capsule restore.
This on my year-old Mac Mini Server that came with Lion Server installed.
Has anyone out there successfully migrated a mult-site (or even solo) Drupal 7 server to Mountain Lion Server? If so, what did you do to get your sites back on line?
    Thanks in advance.

Yep, I've migrated from 10.7 to 10.8 with Drupal 7.
I've got 4 web sites running under 3 different domains.
I run stock os x apache and Postgres and php 5.4 (php-osx.liip.ch) and MySQL via homebrew.
    Server.domain.com = os x server wiki site
Domain.com.au is my drupal / os x Postres site
Crm.domain.com.au is my Sugarcrm / MySQL site
Anotherdomain.com.au is a simple HTML page.
Wiki site worked out of the box
    Drupal and sugarcrm broken
    HTML site worked.
    1. To fix the Drupal site, I just deleted from server websites panel and then re-instated it. That fixed that.
    2. Set debug level to debug in apache2/httpd.conf
    3. Looking at the apache error log, found that sugarcrm permissions needed to be reset and the cache directory needed to be writable by _www.
    4. Fixed that and now up and running.
    Hope that helps.

  • Has anyone converted from forms 4.5 to 6.0 ?

If anyone converted from forms 4.5 to 6.0,
    can you please tell me:
1 - what were the steps
2 - what was your experience
    Thanks,
    Wayne
    null

We converted forms from 4.5 to 6.0. Basically all you have to do is recompile the forms. but, the very first thing you have to do is recompile all the libraries. The forms will not work if you don't recompile the libraries first. So, open and compile the libraries in 6.0, then open and compile the forms in 6.0. They should then work fine. If they do not, try deleting and reattaching the libraries and compile again.
    Good luck.
