Has anyone used a Pinnacle TV for Mac HD Stick

Hi,
I was looking into this product and was thinking about getting it for my powerbook G4 1.67 Ghz. I know it came out about 2008 and is now discontinued but all new TV viewer programs require an Intel mac. With this one you can use a G4/G5 and Intel.

If not the Pinnacle TV for Mac HD Stick how about anyone using the Elgato Systems EyeTV Hybrid? It has the same system requirements for viewing HDTV as does the Pinnacle unit. Anyone get HDTV with one of those on a MDD G4?

  • Has Anyone Used the Pinnacle TV for Macbook Tuner?

I saw this product at the store yesterday and I'm wondering how well it works for recording TV programs and possibly movies onto my macbook. I am hoping it performs similar to a DVR, and I am also wondering if it would be possible to burn these programs onto DVDS? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

i recently got it... it works great! only problem is it comes with eyetv lite, so you have to pay extra to upgrade to the full version of eyetv that allows exporting to diff ipod and apple tv formats.
The nice thing about the pinnacle compared to the elgato eyetv hybrid is that pinnacle tv for mac hd comes with a remote and a portable antenna. The pinnacle is also black so it matches my black macbook.
So yes it records well, but is limited by the "lite" software. Only issue is that u can only record at whatever resolution its coming in at. tv shows can get as big as 4gb for 1hr. you can burn it to dvds also but i think you need toast titanium.

  • Has anyone used savos anti virus for mac

I have been seeing a bit on the net that Apple Macs are being targeted by hackers.
I have seen the program Savos, anti virus & free root kit remover.

Most would say no, that macs do not need anti virus programs.  They are subject to malware, however the user has to be tricked into intalling it.  Unless you have a Windows partition, I personally wouldn't recommend wasting your money on an anti virus program.  You can read this: http://www.reedcorner.net/guides/macvirus/#needav to help you with your decision.

  • Has anyone tried REAL VNC client for Mac OSX? Is it worth the money?

you should not be getting that many crashes and unlike others here i don't see any strong reason to go to 7.2 other than to get to 7.2.1. i very strongly suspect you have dodgy AU's (probably around 218 of them) and if you have a look at your crash log it should show you why you are crashing. if you see an AU in the crash log it is telling you it is causing headaches. my guess is that upgrading is not going to solve your problems.
just so you know, if everything is running as it should be logic will hardly ever crash. post up the crashed thread from your crash log next time it happens. also make sure that you have the proapp kit latest version.
i know its deeply frustrating when things are going pear shaped. everyone but everyone feels that the stupid thing should just work and gets the over-whelming feeling that apple is supposed to make products that just work, that we paid good money for that level reliability and if it's going to act like this we might just as well have stayed with cheaper PC's. reality is, once you start throwing thrid party's into the mix it is really hard to keep control of reliabillity. if you took logic back to zero 3rd party plugs and in built audio, it would take fanatical fundamentalist to crash the thing. (having said that - i reckon i could)

  • Has anyone used ROXIO TOAST II for burning DVD

Has anyone used ROXIO TOAST II for setting up intro and burning to DVD. I used to do this in IDVD which has been abandoned in the Maverick

Just to say that that I've tested iDVD on 10.9 and it works for me. It's a discontinued program of course, and hasn't been supported for several years, but I don't think it runs any differently on 10.9 than it did on say, 10.6.
However…can't help you with Toast because I don't use it.

  • Pinnacle TV for Mac HD Stick on a Dual G4 MDD

The system requirements for the Pinnacle TV for Mac HD Stick say that to view HDTV with the device, a dual G5 or Intel chip Mac is required. Has any G4 owner bought this device and successfully received HDTV programming (as opposed to just receiving Standard Definition digital TV programming)?
If I could watch OTA HDTV on my Dual 1.25 MHz G4 MDD, I'd strongly consider purchasing this device.
    Thanks in advance,

  • Has anyone used the appscript modual for python rather than streight AS?

I just discovered appscript and so far I like what I see. has anyone used it?
Does it just wrap around actual applescript commands which it then sends to osascript with a system call or does it use the message system directly? Is there anything that it has not yet implemented that might cause problems?
To me it seems to be a perfect solution to the clutter that AS seems to be... at least from someone coming from more traditional languages.

In startMovie, you need to register the xtra
    on startMovie
    axRegister(serial code here)
    end
Then, on your Record Button, something like this:
    on mouseUp me
--start recording session - using 400k as maximum here
    errOpen=axOpenRecorder(400000)
--see if there is an error
    put errOpen
--save the new audio as a file
    errRecord=axRecordSoundToFile("soundName","c:\path\to\soundfile.wav")
--see if there is an error
    put errRecord
    end
then make sure you close the recorder in stopMovie
    on stopMovie
    axCloseRecorder()
    end
You can also make a Stop Recording button that has code like
    this:
    on mouseUp me
    errStop=axStopRecording()
    put errStop
    end

  • Has anyone used a Quardro 4000 for 10-bit output to a monitor

    Hey Gang,
I'm trying to set something up that uses a quadro 4000 for outputting my source and program monitors while I'm using them to an external monitor.  I have a Flanders LM-2461W.  I also have a black magic Decklink Extreme 3d, but I'm not at all happy with it's peformance with r3d files.  I mostly work with red footage, and I can't view any of my material on my external monitors.  I need to output like a 1080 signal from my 4k files.  My old Kona card did this beautifully, but for some reason, this black magic card seems to fall short.  I really want to keep the black magic for use with Resolve though.  I need to monitor resolve on my flanders.  I've heard of people using the display port on a Quadro 4000 to output out of premiere, and I'm curious if anyone has done with with r3d footage.

I've got a new Mac Mini running HDMI to a 40" Sony Bravia Flat Panel... works fine.
I do have an issue when I turn on the TV and wake the Mini from sleep... the screen stays really dim. Not sure if it's the Mini or the TV that's the issue. After the Mini is fully on... a power cycle of the TV seems to bring everything back to normal.
Brett, I have the same problem when I bring the mac out of sleep mode. Have you managed to find out why we have to switch the TV Off then On again to get the picture? Or another solution? Very annoying when you have 1000's $ worth of equipment but the solution is still "Have you tried switching it Off and On again" (All due respects to the "IT CROWD").

  • Has anyone used Apple Maps (on the Mac) for RoadTrip planning?

I would like to use Apple Maps to plan a road trip, but I don't see a way to drop multiple pins for multiple locations.  for example, I'd like to visit South Dakota, specifically, Custer and DeSmet, but I'd also like to visit Devil's Tower in Wyoming, the petrified forest which is close by, some caves, etc.  I would like to be able to set my starting point and drop some pins for points of interest and then figure out what else is around those points of interest (PINs) such as restaurants, hotels, historical sites, etc.  And finally be able to pull all this together so I can figure out the road trip.
Has anybody done this and if so would you be willing to share some tips?

I don't see a way to drop multiple pins for multiple locations
This can't be done with Maps at this time. The best you can do is amass a set of bookmarks that contain a maximum of one starting point and one ending point with no way to organize them beyond the order in which they were created. (A completely fruitless exercise in my experience.)
IMO, you're much better off creating maps with Google Maps, saving those maps, then accessing your saved maps through the Google Maps app (in its settings) on your iOS device or via the Web on a Mac. You can also use the Google Maps app in conjunction with the TripAdvisor app and even the OpenTable app to navigate to places to stay and eat anywhere in the country.
(Don't underestimate the value of paper maps for long road trips like this, either.)

  • Has anyone used this RAM in there Mac??

    Greetings
have just found some RAM that is Mac compatible
Corsair 1Gb DDR2-667 SoDimm for Apple Mac
and am wondering if anyone is/has used it?? Being Corsair I understand this ram to be of very very good quality but have only ever been using Kingston RAM as recommended from Renaissance (New Zealand Supplier for Apple).
Your thoughts and answer will be much appreciated
    Thanks

Yes I added the same 1GB Corsair back in May 2006 to the stock 512MB. Replace the 512MB with the 1GB then put the 512MB in the other slot. Slide them in untill you feel then stop, then give them a hard shove to seat them into there slots. After you have seated both modules close the ejector clips and replace the cover.

That extra 1GB will make a big difference, you'll love it.

  • Has anyone used the new Quicken for Lion?

Before updating to Lion and purchasing the new Quicken which is compatible with Lion, I wanted to see if others have used it yet and if there are any major problems.

I have not experienced any problems with the new Quicken for Lion.  It's quite different from the old version but it seems to work quite well.  After installing Lion, the old version of Quicken was deemed useless.  It will not run on Lion, so access it before you update if you intend to extract any info from it.  Good luck!

I am not certain, but I believe there is a version of Dazzle for the Mac. However, it is not the route I would chose.
You really need a proper analogue to digital converter, like the ADVC110, to connect to your camera via the usual RCA cables, and to your Mac via firewire.

  • DVD Cloner for Mac v4- has anyone used this software?

I'm wanting to get a good DVD burner software, however there are so many out there. Has anyone used DVD Cloner for Macv4?

Thanks Kappy, I let it do the scan and when it stopped halfway through and demanded registration I stopped and deleted it.  I still have the icon in the menu bar at the top of the screen and don't know how to remove it.  If this is not possible I can live with it.  I am new to Mac and have trouble divorcing myself from my old PC habits!
