Has been saving project for hours

Instead of saving after a few changes in iMovie 6, I probably did 50 changes of clips, music, etc. and it is still saving thumbnails after 3-4 hours. Can I force quit & pray, or should I still wait? Thanks, George

Were you doing something at the same time? Same problem happened to me last night while I was copying tons of movies and music from my laptop via my wireless network. The laptop's connection failed, causing the operation to fail. iMovie and the Finder window doing the copying had to be Force Quit, because they were hung.
The next time I opened up iMovie, I was asked if I wanted to delete some files that were in the trash. The files were all the changes I had made during the failed transfer. It was only a practice movie edit, so I chose YES. The movie was fine, but I could no longer edit the still photos, so somehow they were removed (not the actual photos). If I had chosen NO, perhaps everything might have remained intact (which is what you are hoping for). Hope this leads you to what you need.

  • My new IPod shuffle is plugged into my computer on my iTunes account but it has been blinking orange for hours. What should I do?

    Hello!
I just purchased an IPod Shuffle.  I have an existing account with Itunes where I have many songs in my library. I plugged in my IPod Shuffle into my computer and ITune, but it has been blinking orange for hours. I had already charged the IPod until the light turned green.  So I thought it was fully charged.  When I go under "file" and "device" it won't permit me to sync my IPod.  What is happening?  Should my IPod be on or off and does that make a difference because I have it turned on. Anyone who can provide me with some guidance it would be greatly appreciated.  I am extremely frustrated and at the end of my rope.
    Thank you,
    Samantha

    venicespent,
Boot into your Mavericks Recovery partition by hold down the command and R keys whilst booting. You'll see a screen that looks like this:
Click on the Disk Utility item to open Disk Utility. You should see your boot drive (usually named "Macintosh HD" unless you've changed it) in the column on the left of the screen. Select your boot partition and click on the "Verify" button. Let your Mac do it's thing - if you get green text telling you that everything seems to be OK, then your disk should not be damaged. If, however, you get red text telling you that the disk needs to be repaired, click on the "Repair" button. If the disk can be repaired, you should be good to go. If the disk cannot be repaired then the drive is damaged.
But before you do anything, make certain that you have backups!!!

It's normal behavior. You don't have to worry about. Most of what's listed is just a report of what the utility finds., not necessarily that there is omething wrong.

  • Calendar has been non-functional for hours, with small screen saying "Moving calendars to server account..." Help?

Calendar on Mavericks MacPro has been non-functional for hours, with small screen saying "Moving calendars to server account..." How can I restore its function?

Sorry. I found some other advice that solved the problem ere I saw your response.
    The advice was:
Go to Finder. Holding "Option" key, find Library in "Go" pull down menu.   In Library. Select Calendars. To desktop, drag all files with the word "cache." Then go to Preferences (still in Library) and drag to desktop "com.apple.ical.plist".  Restart. Now Calendar is working perfectly, and rechecking under Library, the caches files and the com.apple.ical.plist  that were dragged to the desktop have reappeared in Calendars and Preferences.
All is well. Many thanks for your reply! Sorry that I did not get to check it out.

I finally stumbled across a fix for this problem, and in case someone else is frustrated at some point by a similar issue I'm posting what finally worked to enable me to bring iTunes up at any time (without rebooting first).
The solution was to go to the preferences to uncheck "search for shared libraries".
I'm glad the problem is fixed, but Apple developers really should include a timeout function on iTunes search for a shared libraries. At least a visual dialog to confirm that the application is in the process of searching for a shared library on the network would help provide clues as to what is causing the spinning beach ball to appear right about the time the application window should pop up.

Have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds, after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the equivalent of a reboot.

  • My ipod keeps "turning on" the apple will show up, fade away, and then repeat. It has been doing this for hours.

my ipod wont turn on. the white apple with the bite appears, stays for about 10 to 15 seconds like it normally does for booting up, then fades away and the screen goes black. 5 seconds later it repeats. it has been doing this for hours now. I tried the home and power button thing and the screen went black. then i hit the power button and it continued to do the same thing. i tried plugging it in to my wall, my charger recognised that it was charging. i tried plugging it into my computer and it made a sound like something was plugged in. but nothing came up.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • After updating to mavericks on my MacBook, the screen keeps saying "setting up your mac." It has been like this for hours! How can I make it go faster?

After updating to mavericks on my MacBook, the screen keeps saying "setting up your mac." It has been like this for hours! How can I make it go faster? It's has been like this for 4 hrs.

I don't think your mac is setting up. It's stuck.
    I would:
hold the power button until it shuts down
    unplug all peripherals
do a safe boot (restart and hold down the shift key until you see the apple logo).
If it starts up in a safe boot, then you can try restarting with a normal boot.
If it does not start with a normal boot, then you probably have some incompatible third party software. Likely culprits are:
    MacKeeper
    CleanMyMac
    third-party antivirus software
any other "cleaning" or "optimizing" or similar third party "utilities".
A good place to start would be to uninstall any of those (while in safe mode) and then restart.

It just means some spammer is using your email address as the sender address for their spam. This is very easy to do - anyone can do it simply by changing the From email address in their email program. It does not mean your account was hacked or you have a virus (there are no current Mac viruses on the loose anyway, nor has there been for years).
There's nothing you can do about it. It can happen to anyone and the spammers will move on to using someone else's email address before long.

  • Time Machine has been excluding items for hours... and counting!

I have been using time capsule for several years now. But today I brought a new hard drive to use with Time Machine. It's a Western Digital My Book Network drive.
Plugged it in selected the new disk and started to back up. For hours now it has been 'Excluding items..'. It has apparently excluded over 5 million items! Why is it doing this?
I've checked the list of files to exclude and it's just set to exclude the desktop and the Downloads folder.
I don't understand why it has been excluding items so long. Nothing had been copied to the external disk yet. If anyone could help me I'd be much apreciative!
    Thanks, George!

Well now I have this new hard drive
You may avoid some confusion and/or problems by not calling it that. It's a +Network Attached Storage+ (NAS) device, or +network drive.+ Yes, it contains a hard drive, but OSX handles it very differently for many purposes. You've already seen that you can't format it via Disk Utility, for example.
I'd rather not have erase the whole disk and put the wanted data back onto it.
If you can copy that 50GB elsewhere temporarily, erase the drive, then copy it back, that may be much faster and easier than deleting the Backups.backupdb folder. It contains at least several hundred thousand, perhaps over a million items, that OSX must delete one at a time. It may also have permissions or other problems.
Erasing, however, takes only a few moments.
This is why we recommend giving Time Machine its own, exclusive space. See #3 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
Are you putting other things on the network drive? If so, you may have problems there, too, as Time Machine will eventually use all the empty space available to it.
Those backups will be inside a rather odd container called a +sparse bundle.+ If you're really on Leopard, as per your signature, you can limit the maximum size of the sparse bundle, per #A8 of Time Machine - Troubleshooting (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
But since you've posted in the +Snow Leopard+ Time Machine forum, if you're on 10.6.3 or later, that won't "stick," so you may want to see if you can partition the network drive via WD's software (another thing you can't do on a network drive via +Disk Utility,+ unfortunately).

  • Backup has been repeating cycle for hours on end!

    Hi,
Backing up "Migrated iDisk" has been acting crazy! It is almost 9:30pm, and it has been backing up repeatedly since about 5:30pm this afternoon. This has been happening for a few weeks. I ended up having to cancel that part of the backup plan a couple of times, but nothing's gotten backed up to the iDisk since mid-May! It appears that I have plenty of space to backup stuff to, so that doesn't seem to be the problem.
The other backup plans seem to be working fine.
    Please help!
    Thanks,
    Kcat

    Thank you for responding!
I noticed the snafu in .Mac earlier this week. Thanks for confirming that you saw it, too! Maybe it could be related as you mention? The odd part is after four hours of repeating cycle, and right after I posted for assistance, that one section (I was only running that one section at that point) of backup to Migrated iDisk FINALLY quit on its own. It was stressful to see it take that long and to have to keep my Mac awake during that time.
Any suggestions as to why it would take so long or what to do if it does?
    Thanks,
    Kcat

  • Mountain Lion Reinstall has been stuck here for hours?

I decided to reinstall mountain look because my (mid-2009 MacBook Pro) has been a little sluggish. I erased the hard drive from recovery and started the reinstall. The installer said it would be at least 8 hours so I let it go over night. This morning when I woke up the installer was stuck on "Downloading additional components. Your computer will restart automatically." But the blue install bar is full (all blue) and the time says 14 hours and 36 minutes remaining. The computer itself is not frozen (there is no beach ball) what should I do? Thanks
