Has HTMLDB the chance to survive?

I'm an old mod_plsql fan (Freelancer) and that's the reason that I love this new tool HTMLDB.
But we all know these J2EE-fanatics, they were only satisfied when they have a bundle of different servers and a complicated architecture and lot of open source stuff around them. And that's what the market wants!
Oracles strategy is not very clear here: The say, that you could use HTMLB in your department, it's so easy for your secretary to build your own app (it's not!), but do not use it for really big or critical apps. I don't like this argumentation. I would see mod_plsql/HTMLDB as a concurrent technology against J2EE.
Do you think, HTMLDB has the chance to survive? How many companies think about it? Should I invest my time to learn it, or should I go Oracles J2EE-way?

1) Does Oracle HTML DB have the chance to survive?
My magic 8-ball says..."signs point to yes." Actually, I don't even like the use of the term "survive", as it somehow implies HTML DB is clawing its way barely into existence.
HTML DB was never, ever intended to replace J2EE. The design goal for HTML DB remains to provide a productive way for customers to build HTML web applications against an Oracle database, in a hosted environment using declarative methods.
2) "it's so easy for your secretary to build your own app (it's not!)"
HTML DB is targeted at both power users and developers alike. The ease-of-use of HTML DB continues to evolve. Not sure where you got this, though.
3) "but do not use it for really big or critical apps"
HTML DB itself is an HTML DB application comprised of 906 pages. Customers have built and deployed large, mission-critical applications using HTML DB. Also not sure where you got this, though.
HTML DB is not the answer for every software development effort. It is simply a choice.
4) "I too need to know the official response if such a policy exists"
Not sure what policy or official response that would be. That Oracle HTML DB will be a product supported in perpetuity? I'd like to think so, but no company can ever make that kind of guarantee.
5) "As it has been around for quite a few months now it is disappointing to see the lack of jobs requiring it."
PHP first started in 1995. I don't think 4 months after its introduction people were clamoring for PHP developers.
HTML DB was released in January 2004. That's not even 4 full months since the release. No books are available (although I'm aware of at least a couple underway). Oracle Education classes will be offered shortly. If our success is going to be measured by the number of jobs available on monster.com, we'll lose that today...but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it either.

  • Why a MacBook Pro buyer has not the chance to by the Mac with a NVIDIA card

    Dear mac lovers,
    I wonder why we have not the chance to buy a MacBook Pro with a NVIDIA Graphic card?

    I guess it's down to deals, money and handshakes. The same reason PC manufactures use a specific graphics brand. There are very few that give the option (notebooks anyway).
    Just to add i understood your question perfectly and I'm sure your level of written/spoken English is far better than other posters level of German

  • IPod touch (5th gen) has a hardly any of my music on it while iTunes says it has all the songs on I put on it. WHAT EVIL IS THIS? Help me slay is horrible bug.

    I just got this thing for my birthday after having two 160GB classics stolen in a row and I'm beyond stoked to have my music back. It worked great for a few days and after putting some music on one day, I ejected (safely) it and then unplugged it. NO MUSIC ON THE IPOD.I plug it back in frantically and see that ALL THE MUSIC I put on IS STILL ON THE DEVICE according to ITUNES. However when I open up that sweet music app I've got about 15 songs. My heart has been crushed and another apple product has done be dirty. I have faith in this 4 day old device still. Please help me before I smash it up and throw a piece at every apple store.
    Additional info - I just downloaded the new iTunes (12.1) Maybe then new version is Satan in disguise. The new red logo is pretty convincing however, it was only after I used 12.1 that this happened. It would surprise me the latest and greatest version shorts me. Please help me get my music working again so I can stop complaining about Apple products for awhile.

    Yep the problem is with the new iTunes update (12.1.0.50 for the Mac version, I don't recall the number of the Windows version) and the worst part is that I don't think there's a way to solve the problem except for waiting for the next update hoping it will correct this bug.
    It happened to me too, and to many other users: every time I try to sync the device (I use a 4th gen iPod touch), all of the songs get deleted. I have to put sync them all again (and I have a HUGE number of songs, so it's extremely annoying).
    I tried putting in DFU mode, safe starting, restoring both from backup and as a new iPod on many computers, but nothing of that solved the problem.
    I spoke to an Apple technician but he knew nothing about it, he suggested me there was a problem with my computer (that's impossible, it's brand new, and the problem occurs on other computers too! What's the chance of having the same damage on two different machines - a Mac and a PC - at the same time?)
    Finally, I noticed that if I sync my iPod on a computer with an older version of iTunes the problem doesn't happen.
    All of this was nearly a month ago... still no updates :\

  • My ipad mini was stolen and i have activated the find my phone to lock it. how can i get the serial number off my itunes or icloud profile? and what are the chances that the find my iphone app works when someome erases the device?

    my ipad mini has been stolen and i have activated the find my iphone to lock. now it is only a wifi device so what are the chances that a person can get hold of it and log onto wifi without the password of my device to unlock. does that not make the app rather less useful as i have to hope that the person is apt enough to log onto the internet but not enough to erase it and start afresh. is it possible to find my device even afte someone has erased it?

    "Losing your iPhone feels lousy. Thankfully, iCloud can help you get it back. But if it looks like that’s not going to happen, new Find My iPhone features in iOS 7 make it harder for anyone who’s not you to use or sell your device. Now turning off Find My iPhone or erasing your device requires your Apple ID and password. Find My iPhone can also continue to display a custom message, even after your device is erased. And your Apple ID and password are required before anyone can reactivate it."

    You may have to do this several times.
    Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school environment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
    Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
    I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
    Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
    If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.

  • What are the chances of an N95 Classic Firmware Up...

    Guys,
    Do you think Nokia will continue to support the N95 now that the 8gb version is out? I'm stuck with the phone based on contract and I'm hoping that at least we'll get a hot new firmware.
    What are the chances that they'll release a significantly updated firmware that possibly will free more memory or add that dynamic memory handling of the new software so this thing can be a reliable Ngage gaming device?

    one can be optimistic, and one can be realistic. One can observe the history of Nokia support and draw a conclusion and that would not be an optimistic conclusion. There are plenty of people who have contracts for phones that got a single upgrade if they were lucky. N95 has already had more than that (3?) with the last one dated 5 months ago. The cell phones that get updated are usually not 6 months between updates so every day that passes is like a nail in the coffin. So Nokia has moved on to N95 8GB. Contract has nothing to do with getting Nokia to upgrade firmware however badly it may be needed, contract is about making money for the phone company. The N95 8GB can just as well be called an N95 "i" version, they just didn't name it that. that means N95 "Classic" very likely "left in the dust" as a previous post articulately stated. When I say the I think the chance is zero, it is based on Nokia support history which is woeful

  • Lost photos! aaaggh! (iPhoto 08). I disconnected my HDD temporarily when relocating.I synced my iphone and iPhoto it seems has rebuilt the library from the old copy

    I have two ext HDD intended to ensure I don't lose my photos( iPhoto 08). I disconnected my HDD temporarily when relocating.
    I then synced my iphone and iPhoto it seems has rebuilt the library from the old copy of the library (2011. I have Time Machine but I can't restore the last 3y photos as I guess Time machine does not back up the other HDD.
    Any chance of finding my treasured photos somebody?

    Sounds like you have another iPhoto library someplace - under no conditions would iPhoto revert a library to an older one - you just need to find and open the correct one
    Depress and hold the option key, launch iPhoto and use the resulting select library to look st the libraries you have

  • If you jailbreak your device what are the chances of bricking your idevice

    I just need to know what the chances are

    @steve359
         Yes. Apple will not support you in anyway if you encounter a problem with the device. Like IIIaass said, it voids the warranty, violates the licence agreement. Also, you could encounter a "re-spring loop" where your deivce continues to restart the SpringBoard. Also, your device will be slower and will not last as long as a device running iOS, and the reason for this is when Apple made the OS, it did not push it to what the device can handle, but when jail broken, you push it to the limit. Also, the battery will drain way faster and you will find yourself at the outlet more often. Also, to answer your question about bricking, it isn't likely unless your running iOS 5.1. There is no untethered jailbreak for it, therefore you have to use a computer everytime you turn the device totally off. When on a tethered jailbreak, if the exploit fails (which it does if you don't enter DFU mode correctly), you have to restore the device using iTunes, and sometimes iTunes cannot restore. So, I strongly suggest you DO NOT jailbreak. Apple has these restriction for a reason. Oh, I will also add that when your iOS device is jail broken, hackers can remotley log in, and control your device. Also, your installing third-party software that hasn't been vetted by Apple, so you don't know if your downloading malicious software that can crash your iPod and worse. So I really, really don't think you should do it, because if somethings goes wrong, don't come here, or to Apple.

  • After  i have upgraded to Lion OS, this computer has become the worst computer on this planet. Everything is so slow as if i am in 1990's, where you can click on something and take a coffee break. Constantly get errors on MS Outlook and all applications

    After  i have upgraded to Lion OS, this computer has become the **** computer on this planet. Everything is so slow as if i am in 1990 where you can click on something and take a coffee break. Constantly get errors on MS Outlook and all applications are taking for ever to open up. If you guys can't fix it i am going to throw this out the window. Completely fed up with this. Have always loved apple but this is the worst experience i have with the MacBook Air and its not even 1.5yr old.

    There are two ways to upgrade to Lion - one is to install Lion overtop of the existing Snow Leopard and the other is to erase the hard drive, install Lion, and then migrate your applications and user accounts. This second option takes a good deal longer than the first so the preferred method for most is the first method and in most cases it works fine. But not in all.
    captfred has told you what I'd start out doing if it were my computer. There's a good chance that you can identify an application or plug-in that's causing the problem. Upgrading the involved item(s) can solve the problem. Of all the Lion upgrades I performed I had a couple that weren't completely successful even though I'd looked for programs and plug-ins that needed upgrading first. I missed a few but I found them after the fact and had happy computers.
    There was one computer that still had problems. With this computer I reinstalled Lion right over the old version. (If you didn't keep a copy you'll need to download it first.) I still wasn't satisfied so with that computer I rebooted into the recovery partition (Command R after restarting) formatted the hard drive, installed Lion and then migrated. That did solve the problem.

  • My MacBook Pro can't turn on again and apple said that the hard drive was broken. What are the chances of apple recovering my files on target disk?

    Okay basically my MacBook Pro won't turn on. It has a spinning loading sign and a bar that won't complete at the bottom. Rang apple said take it into the apple shop and they will try target disk. What is that exactly and what are the chances my photos and files can be recovered. I would go to the shop but I'm on vacation. Help would be appreciated thanks.

    This defines Target Disk Mode:

    Though not guaranteed, the chances are good that the data can be recovered.

    Sick as a pig....what's the chance of getting it back guys?

    Slim to none
    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have to iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it.
    - Apple will do nothing without a court order

  • Who has changed the Custom Field value?

    Dears,
    Need to know the information regarding how to fetch that who has changed the Custom field value from PWA/MPP.
    Example:
    There is a PDP (say ProjectInfo):
    There is a Custom Field added to that PDP (say Project Status = In Progress).
    Now for ProjectA, someone has checked out and changed the Custom Field "Project Status" from "In Progress" to "Closed".
    I need to fetch the information regarding who has changed that Custom field.
    In which direction should I move: Event Handlers, PSI???? Any other stuff?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Shravan

    Hi Shravan,
    I'm not a developer but I do know that you can use an event handler pushing the resource name and date in custom fields.
    Another way is to use a 3rd-party tool like
    FluentPro Audit Tool.
    Hope this helps,

    I have a requirement to make REASON field required if user has changed the value in SALARY field. Is it possible using spel? what are my options?

    Karan,
    You can change the Rendered Property through personalization.
    But in your requirement you need to attach the Spell through personalization & extend the existing CO to set the value of the SPELL based upon the condition.
    Note - Refer this thread http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=2176729&tstart=0. If you have worked on SSHRParams kindly help the user.
