Has iMovie library always been so big?

I just upgraded to Mavericks and iMove 10. I don't remember seeing a file "iMovie Library 1.imovielibrary" before and it is huge. My iMovie Events folder is 511 GB and the iMovie Library 1.imovielibrary file is 476 GB. I can't perform a Time Machine backup anymore. Why is the library file so big?

I have problems with my iMovie library too, after updating to Mavericks iMovie asked me to import old projects to the new iMovie version.
I can see from time machine that previous version of Movies folder was the following:
- iMovie sharing: 4,4 GB
- iMovie Events: 15,61 GB
- my videos: 2,87 GB
- iMovie projects: 2,53 GB
Total: 25,41 GB
now after iimporting to the new iMovie version the library was approx. 80 GB so I started to cut some parts of the movie from my project but my free Hard Disk space was always going down.
So I moved iphoto library to external storage to free 70 GB and now iMovie library is 175,87 GB

I figured it out!!!
Hey guys! Here's what I did that saved my project.
-SHORT VERSION-
Use the Finder window on your Mac to copy and paste your old project (the one not showing up in imovie) to a new folder so that iMovie will see it.
-LONG VERSION-
CONDITIONS:
The project has to exist on your hard drive. To see if it's hiding around somewhere go to:
Home (your name)>Movies>iMovie Library (right click and select Show Package Contents)
In the iMovie Library folder (the default is usually the date) open it to see if your Project is inside. If it is, you are in luck!
RESTORING PROJECT:
Open iMovie
start a new folder under the iMovie Library (again, the default is usually todays date)
Close iMovie
In the finder window (as explained above in the CONDITIONS section) select the files and folders of your project and copy them (in my case these consist of folders called Analysis Files, Original Media, "MYPROJECT", Render Files, Shared Items)
There should now be a folder with today's date in that Show Package Contents folder.
Paste a copy of your project;s files into this folder.
When it is done copying, open up the "Original Media" folder and all of your images and clips should be present.
reopen iMovie. Your project should show up in the Libraries list.
*If your full project isn't showing in the iMovie timeline (mine just had empty bubbles where all my clips and audio should be) try dragging and dropping the clips and images from the project's "Original Media" folder into the import section of your project. Once the files were reimported, iMovie recognized them all and put them back in the correct place for me.

Imovie library has imported without event

I need to work on an edit started by another user. They used imovie 10.0.02, and I have recently upgraded to Yosemite, so have 10.0.06.
I am unfamiliar with the new library system and still the imovie 9 version for most things but for this project will use imovie 10.
He followed the instructions and created a new library with the projects and footage in it.
I've now copied this library onto my mac.
I now have the libraries showing up in my imovie 10.0.06, but there is no footage. The library file is 16GB, so I know it has footage in it - but none has been imported into imovie. In imovie the timeline has made it across, and titles etc are in tact, but there is no footage.
I tried deleting the imovie Theater and Imovie Library file and updating projects and events - but this hasn't worked.
Any clues?

check in the old events and prohects folders from iMovie 11 for a flie indicating imovie10 migration or whatever it's a single file in each of these too folders. Delete these two or the one from the events and go back in iMovie 10 and click on refresh/actualise or whatever this is called. This help for me to see the migrated prohjevts

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution. We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
did you get a message when trying to import from the memory card?
did you use a card reader?
what was you exact workflow for attempting the import?
what fixes have you tried?
where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library? See image below:
what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?

Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can sync your music and apps from iTunes. However since you are moving from an iPod to an iPad, many of the apps will have iPad versions which you will need to redownload.

I have just noticed that asking to be taken to the last message of a thread takes one to the last edited post, not to the last posted message. Also, the edited message shows its original time in the list, but the date and time of the last edit when open.
Has it always been like this, or has a recent change been made? I ask because I don't recall having observed this before (which doesn't really mean much). And, regardless of whether this is a recent change or it has always been like this, I find it very confusing. Perhaps marking a message as edited should be automatic, and not voluntary as it is today?
I am thinking, for example, of the automatic addition at the end of a message of a note saying "Last edited by (name of the author or host/moderator) on (date and time)". The reason for the edit would be added only if voluntarily added by the person who did it. As I will do voluntarily at the end of this message immediately after posting it.
I think that if, at the same time, editing a message doesn't make it automatically become the last one, everything would be quite a lot more clear and logical.

I'm not a software developer, so that's not for me to work out. The system is already in place to allow for the requested comment to be placed at the end of the message, that's all I was commenting about. By default the checkbox could be ENABLED and not be given the choice to disable it.
I am not sure if others are specifically looking for the timestamp, but clearly the system already has it in place, if it is taking a reader to the last *edited* message. Since it's already there, displaying it shouldn't be such a tough thing for a software development company to do.

Beginning a thread does not equate to how many replies end up in the thread, so saying that an OP started a 70 message thread is not relevant. If you have problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop

* Install the new version that you have downloaded

I found many folks here trying to hide of the clock, but I need the clock. I use a PDF on my iPad for my notes when I am speaking in front of an audience. I need the clock so I can kep track of time.

Has a release date been set for an update to iMovie 6?

The application is much faster than my old 3.0.3 version. Unfortunately it won't render. I seem to have the same problem with rendering that a number of folks have described on this board. Everthing turns white after rendering (Ken Burns and transitions)
What has apple's history been on the timing of the inevitable update?

They are JPEG. They all were imported into iPhoto from an internal hard drive where I store my photos. I use that hard drive as a backup to my iPhotos.
My guess is I'll have to try one of the work-arounds mention on this board or wait until the new update and hope that works. I am hoping the update is out in weeks versus months.

IMovie hung reading iMovie Library.imovielibrary

This is probably the first time I've tried to open iMovie at least since upgrading to Yosemite - maybe longer. iMovie has been hung for hours now saying "Reading "iMovie Library.imovielibrary" library. I can't do anything with iMovie. I can't even quit it though I suppose I could do a force quit but I haven't tried that yet, hoping that at some point it would finally finish whatever it is doing. After 5-6 hours, I have given up on that hope. Does anyone have any suggestions?

If you have upgraded iMove as well as Yosemite, it may be trying to read/update an old iMovie library. If that is the case and the update appears to be hanging, and/or the library in question is not one you need to keep, you may find the following articles helpful:

I have done this on numerous occasions but I think that my Iphone has a defect. After many tries, reinstalls, deletion of content, changing content to be stored on external hard drive, deleting itunes and cleaning computer I managed to get all of the songs on and things seemed okay for a while.
The problem returned about a week ago after downloading a new album from Itunes. I now have 12.5k of songs leaving 10gb spare on Iphone which should be more than enough room to operate properly. Last night it seemed to be dowloading ok (after doing all of the above again for the umpteenth time) this morning it revealed that it had just synched 2.5k of songs and 18gb of "other" on the contents bar. it wont synch now as it says its over capacity. So the 18gb of "other" would probably be corrupted data that means it must corrupt each song as it tries to synch it.
The 2.5k of songs it did synch are working on the Iphone as is every song in the library on Itunes. I did completely delete the new album I bought and redownloaded it from the store then tried to synch just that album and it worked fine.
Just about time to dump apple I think!
