Has iOS 4 been designed to force 3G owners to upgrade???

Updated last night (pleased to say that unlike a lot of poor souls I had no issues with the upgrade - touch wood) and was just trying to work out what new features I actually have now (since they keep saying over 100 but don't actually provide a list!)
Digital Zoom - no
Custom wallpapers - no (and I don't believe for one minute that a devide that can play video and 3D games cannot have an icon move over a picture!)
Unified inbox - now I have 7 email addresses dumped into one place so I can't find one thing from another.. thankfully the original inboxes are still available (twice for some reason!)
Application groups - I can now organise my apps into groups of 12 instead of the groups of 16 I had them in (but handy for anyone who wants more than 144 apps)
So I literally can't find anything on here different that I actually want to use (I like the new calculator icon but I'm not sure that made the upgrade worthwhile!)
What I HAVE noticed is that every single thing I do on this phone is slower..
Slower to open up (hit "messages" and there is exactly a 10 second delay before showing me anything!), slower to actually use (sometimes I can be typing and have to stop for 5 secs for it to actually put any letters on the screen), slower for everything - just been on a webpage and zoomed in (10 sec delay before it redrew the screen), scrolled around (another 10 second delay before redrawing)
Reading a few posts it seems that I am by no means alone in having a sluggish time with my phone which begs a question.. Is it all designed to make me say "to **** with it" and pay for the upgrade to the 4G?

Already discussed in another thread, but no, it wasn't designed to force you to upgrade.
If that were the case, they wouldn't have updated it at all.
I personally think the release is not up to the quality that most users expect of Apple on iPhones, but then again, every release gets these kinds of complaints.
Apple again put almost all of their effort into new development for the iPad and iPhone 4. A small amount of their remaining resources went into just making sure the 3GS and 3G could get anything at all.
This brought with it a whole bunch of security updates, and the features that could be implemented easily and cheaply. By the time it got down the 3G, this probably meant more of just "disable whatever doesn't work right away" mentality, rather than spend extra time optimizing code to run quickly on all platforms.
I guess the thing to ask yourself is, what other phone manufacturers are releasing their firmware/OS/featureset for two-year-old hardware to keep release parity with two newer major hardware releases?
Frankly, I'm surprised Apple even tried to release iOS4 on the 3G. I agree that based on my results, this release was not ready for widespread release to all the 3G handsets that were out, and they should've canceled or delayed this release of iOS 4 to the 3G hardware until it could be better profiled for performance and gone through more extensive QA.
However, this is what we got, and on that side of things, Apple did what they could do with the resources they had. I don't see any evidence that this is a planned obsolescence release though, with the goal of forcing upgrades. If that were their intention, they wouldn't have released iOS4 on the 3G at all. It would've saved them a lot of money in terms of development, QA, and support time, and those resources could've been used to do more iPad and iPhone 4 development tasks. Meanwhile, this release will be good enough for some, who wanted application grouping and the unified inbox, and it'll hold them over on their 3G and won't compel them to buy a new 3GS or 4.
I'll edit to add... Mine was particularly slow until I actually fully shut down and restarted my iPhone. Now it's as sluggish typing as it was on 3.1.3. Which is too slow in my opinion, but obviously not the sole result of upgrading to 4.0.

i have iphone 4s from japan which is a carrier locked (kddi ) it has ios 5.1.1 and now i want to upgrade to ios 6.Can i do the software update or it will cause any harm???

If you have a Japanese iPhone and are using it with any carrier other than Softbank or AU, then it was hacked, since as the others have said neither of those carriers unlock iPhones. Therefore if you upgrade iOS or restore your iPhone, it will lock back to the original carrier and be unusuable with your current cell provider.

  • In the summer of 2013 I updated my Macbook Air to Mavricks and my solid state hard drive crashed and had to be replaced. Has this issue been fixed and is it safe to upgrade?

Please help! I don't want to have to get a new hard drive. My warentee has now expired. Is it safe to upgrade? The service person I talked to said that it had happened to quite a few MacBook Airs.

  • Estimating Hosting Costs before the site has been designed.

We want to build a site like these Flash sites.
WebKinz, Club Penguin, Toon Town, etc...
How can we estimate what our hosting costs will be if our site hasn't been designed yet. We have user count targets and the general scope and concept of the site. Partners and investors want to feel comfortable about our hosting cost projections. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
    Thanks

Then maybe you should ask the companies you named.  It is higly unlikely anyone here has access to give you better information than what a hosting company can provide.  And hosting costs vary from host to host.  I would guess that if you can give a hosting company some real numbers as to your usage needs, then they can quote you a price they can stand by.
The bottom line is, this is not a Flash question, it isn't even an Adobe product-related question.  So you are better off trying to find applicable resources for the information you seek.

  • Has anyone been experiencing problems with "Restore Purchases" after upgrading to iOS 7?

I've been having problems with restoring purchases on a majority of apps that I have previously downloaded and purchased IAPs. I've only successfully restored purchases on one app (Warhammer Quest); but other apps, such as "Legendary Heroes" (On which I spent $20 to unlock everything), no longer restore my purchases. Instead the "Restore Purchases" button prompts me to buy one "Remove ads" purchase. Some apps, such as Trinity Interactive's Tiny Legend Monster Crashers and Call of Mini Zombies do not have a "Restore Purchases" button at all. Has anyone else been having this problem? And even so, is this an issue with iOS 7 or just an incompatibility between the apps themselves and iOS 7? I've put way too much money into a bunch of these apps to have to repurchase everything all over again.

I would recommend using the SEARCH function of the forums and locating the many others posts that have already discussed this issue.

  • Is it worth buying the old Mac pro now, for iOS dev and designing?

I want to replace my old Macbook Pro unibody 2008 late model, and buy something instead of that. Currently it has 8gb ram, an SSD drive, but it's getting slower and slower. I want to replace it with something, and if I don't have to I won't spend ~3000€ for a new machine.
Would it make sense for me to buy an old Mac Pro (2008 - 2010 model, with at least 16gb ram, and SSD, and 2x27" monitor) and use that to create my iOS apps and design with Photoshop and Illustrator. I don't need a machine to do crazy stuff like 3D modelling (don't have time for it ) nor gaming.
    Thanks.

The 2009 model and later are worth buying. They also feature Multi-Threading, which gives a performance boost.
The 2008 model uses older FBDIMM memories, and its memory has been severely limited in size and expensive (unless you drop down one notch and use 667MHz, which has become quite affordable).
The 2009 model and later change to processor-on-a-shelf, with either a one-chip  or a two-chip shelf installed. Each offers four memory slots per processor. 4 DIMMs @8GB would give you 32GB four under US$400.
Four-core models would do what you are talking about, and you can upgrade to a 6-core processor if you are handy and can deal with thermal paste.

  • HT2589 when I try and log in my i-tunes account or my app store account on my i-phone it says "this apple I.D has not yet been used on the i-tunes store" it gives me 2 optins "cancel" or "review" I press review, enter my bank details but they decline..why

Hi can anybody help or advise me? I've recently bought the i-phone 4s, I've set up my apple I.D and password but everytime I try and log in it says "this apple I.D has not yet been used on the i-tunes store" I click "review" follow the instructions and agree to the terms and condition's, enter my bank details but it declines every time? I've tried both my accounts and its declined both, this stops me from logging in so I can't download anything for free or buy anything, my sister had the option of skipping the bank details part when she created her apple I.D and just enters her's when buying something, why do I not have that option?? And why is it declining my bank details...please HELP!!!!!

The details I'm entering are correct, I choose visa as my card type, enter my card number, enter my expiry date and my last 3 digts on the reverse of the card, enter my address and zip code plus my home telephone number, click continue and it says "the payment method you have selected has been declined, please enter another payment method". I've lost count how many times I've tried, I've typed my details in slowly making sure I put them in properlly and it still declines it, I've even tried makeing a new apple I.D and when I get to the bank details part it declines it again so I am forced to press cancel and all details are not saved so its just like I'm hitting a brick wall, its ******* me off!!! I can't even download any of the free app's because to do so you must log in but when I do it says "this apple I.D has not yet been used in the i-tunes store" review my details and can't get past the bank details part. So doesn't log me in, I'm honestly out of ideas

  • Hi to All, My wife still has ios 6 on her ipad (she likes the look). I will do the 7.1 upgrade when it is released. Should there be any issues going from 6 directly to 7.1? Thanks!

Hi to All, My wife still has ios 6 on her ipad (she likes the look). I will do the 7.1 upgrade when it is released. Should there be any issues going from 6 directly to 7.1? Thanks!

There shouldn't be. I went from iOS5.whatever to iOS6.1 with no issues.
Just make sure to back everything up before you do it, just in case all doesn't go as planned.
I always do mine the old fashioned way, download the full OS via iTunes so if you've already got it linked to a computer and been using iTunes to do updates/syncing that's how I'd suggest you do it.

  • I am unable to restore from iCloud backup because the new phone has iOS 8.1.2 and the old phone has iOS 8.2? Any help.

I Have just bought an iPhone 6 and want to restore my iPhone 4s via iCloud backup to the new iPhone 6. The setup of the iPhone 6 halted because according to the new phone it has iOS 8.1.2 whereas the backups were stored using iOS 8.2 following my updating of the iPhone 4S recently. How do I jump through this hoop? How do I update the new phone to iOS 8.2 without serring it up first? Anyone, please help?

Update the new phone to the same version that has been used to create the backup. In your case, the new device has to run 8.2 to be able to use the backup made with the other device.
Setting it back to factory settings will install the newest version and after that you can use the backup made under 8.2

ok thanks, that's what I tought, looks like apple machines are only good for two - three years, the software developers are ahead of the hardware to a certain point, love macs but this is forcing us to buy new macs just to keep  up with development. There was a time it was the opposite.
By the time we get up on new stuff it's time to change again. Gotta be rich to deal with macs ...LOL

  • Has anyone else been unable to download the netflix app on ipad 2?

has anyone else been unable to download the netflix app on ipad 2?

I have this problem too. I've had it downloaded previously on my 1st Gen iPad, so it even shows up on my "Purchased Items" list, but no icon showing any option at all ie, Download, Purchase, Open.
Is it because the current version is not compatible with the iPad 2's latest iOS? If that is the case, isn't the App store supposed to serve the last working version??

  • Has there ever been a way/consideration to update an ipod shuffle by attaching it to an iphone or ipad?

Has there ever been a way/consideration to update an ipod shuffle by attaching it to an iphone or ipad? With a small audio cord, would it be possible to update and charge an ipod shuffle via an iphone or ipad? This could be useful for people on the go who want to add music to a workout playlist or have forgotten to charge their shuffle before a run/ride.

No, this is not possible. A computer has traditionally been a required part of the whole package, and only recently has become optional with iCloud and direct iTunes / app downloads.
In any event an iOS device has to get its content directly from a computer or directly from Apple. There is no other way.

  • Has a solution been found for the battery life problem after the Galexy S5 update?!

Andriod System and Andriod OS eating all of my battery causing in to drain 15%an hour after the update. Yes if have uninstalled all unnecessary apps and disable everything I can. Has a solution been found yet? I know Im not the only person who has had this problem from my research. Is there a fix?!

DONT do a Factory Reset.  It will not help and is NOT necessary after an update.
    Your issues are multi phased.
Go to Settings>Battery and see what is using the power
    1) with a new Operating system, your phone will optimize the system and apps, this in itself can take a few days.
    2) aside from that, you should try running the phone in Safe Mode as this loads only the core stuff necessary to run the phone.
    3) if Safe Mode works then it Is one of your Third Party Apps and would be easy to track down
    4) if it is one of the apps it is recommended that you uninstall them run the phone then start installing them slowly until you find the offending app
    5) If running in Safe mode has NOT worked, then you need to deep dive a bit more.  Open Settings>Apps and go to the ALL tab.  Go in and start Force Stopping apps such as Camera, Sync etc...(the last Samsung update the Camera was frozen and would drain the battery pretty fast)
It is most likely a third party app causing the slowness.  As a last resort you can bring your phone to a Best Buy and go to the Samsung Kiosk or Booth inside the store.  These are manned by Samsung Employees and you would ask them to re flash your phone. They will plug it into their computer and load the software directly from their servers and not over the air.  This would be the cleanest install you can get on these phones but it may not fix the issue if Samsung coded part of it incorrectly or if the camera app is not updated and is incompatible with Lollipop which is causing it to run continuously.
