Has it died, or is it just very ill??

Hi there,
Am a little freaked out. My 8 month old MBP (13inch, bought just after the newest upgrade) appears to have died on me today. I was doing a couple of things at once - internet, email, word skype, nothing that major - when the screen suddenly went blank; the battery is fully charged. There was no audible noise or change in display before it died. It now won't restart.
Any ideas what the problem is? It was bought for my PhD, and has loads of work on it. I have a time capsule, so most of it is backed up, but haven't brought it home for a while so there is a fair amount of work on it that I'd rather wasn't lost!
I have Apple Care, so hopefully everything will be fine, but wondered if anyone had any advice?
Will it be fixed or replaced do you think? Bit worried that it will happen again if it is fixed. If it is replaced, will it be like-for-like, or could I upgrade at my own cost??

If you have your disks with you, try booting from the latest OS that is installed holding down the C key. If it boots, choose your language and run the hardware test.
If your hard drive is ok, you will be able to remove it, put it in an enclosure, mount it on another computer, and move your data.

I don't want to lose any of the data on my IPhone, my IPad, the kids IPod Touches, etc... How can I make this computer my new PC for my ITunes library without losing all of my info? There has to be a way as I can't believe you have to lose all of your devices information, pics, videos just because your home computer has to be replaced. I believe your only option will be to get Apple to replace the screen for you, which won't be cheap. If the machine is still covered under warranty, you could try to push the case that the screen must be defective for a bug to get in there. Apple has been known to do free out-of-warranty service in some pretty unbelievable circumstances, that that is at their discretion, so be very pleasant and polite so they'll like you and want to help you out. But be prepared to have to pay for the repair.

My iPod 1g has been dying quickly after 1st sync with iTunes

After my first sync with iTunes my 1st Generation iPod has been dying very quickly. And I charge it all night, but when I turn it on it says that I only have 20% battery then maybe 5-10 minutes later it says I have a full battery. What is going on? I bought this iPod used with no mannual. The whole 20% battery issue happened right from the point I got it.

Let the battery fully drain. After charging for an hour try a reset (both buttons) and connect to computer and try to restore. If screen is still white you very likely have a hardware problems.

Just updated the new bug fix and phone has has completely died. I have tried to hold down the home button and the on/off switch for ages but doesn't seem to kick start it. What can I do?? Only had the phone since Monday....

While it could be a cooling fan, a noise like that is usually a sign of a dying hard drive. Back up everything immediately. Make immediate backups of any new documents you create after the full backup.

Where does the problem lie? Also can anyone tell me the hierarchy of use between the Apple Maps, SIRI, and Google maps when the app is on the phone? How do you choose one over the other as the default map usage? Or better still how do you suppress SIRI from using the Apple maps app when requesting a "go to"?
I have placed an address location into the CONTACTS list and when I ask SIRI to "take me there" it found a TOTALLY different location in the metro area with the same street name. I have included the address, the quadrant, (NE) and the ZIP code into the CONTACTS list. As it turns out, no amount of canceling the trip or relocating the address in the CONTACTS list line would prevent SIRI from taking me to this bogus location. FINALLY I typed in Northeast for NE in the CONTACTS list (NE being the accepted method of defining the USPS location quadrant) , canceled the current map route and it finally found the correct address. This problem would normally not demand such a response from me to have it fixed but the address is one of a hospital in the center of town and this hospital HAS a branch location in a similar part of town (NOT the original address SIRI was trying to take me to). This screw up could be dangerous if not catastrophic to someone who was looking for a hospital location fast and did not know of these two similar locations. After all the whole POINT of directions is not just whimsical pasttime or convenience. In a pinch people need to rely on this function. OR, are my expectations set too high?
How does the iPhone select between one app or the other (Apple Maps or Gppgle Maps) as it relates to SIRI finding and showing a map route?
Why does SIRI return an address that is NOT the correct address nor is the returned location in the requested ZIP code?
Is there a known bug in the CONTACTS list that demands the USPS quadrant ID be spelled out, as opposed to abreviated, to permit SIRI to do its routing?

siri will only use apple maps, this cannot be changed. you could try google voice in the google app.

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings If yu can see the screen enough to do it)
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since you have a hardware problem.

Never mind, I already found the solution myself.
What I did wrong was:
- not copying the master image to the nbi folder
- selecting the netinstall-restore.dmg image as source to copy to my HD.
The thing is, when you create a netinstall image for 10.5, the image itself is already included in the netinstall image so you don't have to do anything else.
With the 10.4 image however, you also have to copy the master image to the NetBootSP0 directory.
In the *.nbi folder contains an netinstall-restore.dmg file. But that is only to boot you to netrestore, it's not the image itself.
Other alternative is to copy the images to another folder that you share with AFP and adjust the configuration of netrestore like described in this manual:

This manual was also how I figured out that I forgot to copy the image to the NetBootSP0 folder.
