Has Mavericks been the most buggy update yet?

How is everybody doing who updated to Mavericks from a previous version?
It seem to me it has more bugs and glitches when comparing to any of the previous major updates (of which I have done 5).
It is just me or did others get hurt as well?

FWIW, I have Mavericks running flawlessly on two
of my Macs.
If the majority of people used some basic concepts
like these before updating, most issues would not happen:
1.  Clean up any problems that currently exist.  If there are
general system issues or issues related to certain apps,
they are likely to get worse after upgrade.  This includes
the minor nusaince issues that one may have.
2.  Make sure all applications are up to date.  This is one
that many people ignore or simply refuse to do for many
reasons.  If you don't want to update your apps, don't
      upgrade the OS.
3.  Make sure any third party drivers for hardware are compatible
or have new drivers available.  Again, if there are no compatible
      drivers available, don't update.
4.  For those that rely on a computer for a paycheck, backup all
data and have a plan in place to return the machine to its pre-ugrade
state (clones or Time Machine which of the two clones seem more
reliable for this purpose).  This should must be done on a regular basis
any way for any business as anything can go wrong at anytime.
5.  Do a general "house cleaning".  If you have apps that haven't been
used in a long time, completely uninstall them.  Some application developers
like to spread things all over a system, so make sure all fragments are removed.
I will admit there are bugs in any OS upgrades, but following the above
can greatly reduce the risk of a majority of issues.

My 5C has just done the most recent update, yet I can't turn it on without it being plugged into iTunes through a laptop. However, I don't have iTunes on my laptop because it's my school one. Ideas please?

If you are seeing the USB cord and iTunes icons on your screen something has gone wrong with the update. You will have to restore your iPhone. The only way to do this is to connect the phone to your computer that is running iTunes.

  • After the update, Firefox is a mess on my computer: Won't print, often seizes on opening a window or trying to print. None of which happened before the update. This is the most dysfunctional update yet, on my computer anyway.

Nothing to add. I'm waiting for a new update to address the problems of this one--which has happened periodically in the past. The "educated guesses" below are incomprehensible.

Well Bababooey if you're comparing yourself to a Apple Genius Bar then you should already know my answer, your snarky remark get a snarky reply.  Why would I go to a salesperson to fix my computer problem when I can go directly go to the source itself.  I used to sell Apple computers over 8 years ago and was apple certified before the Genius bar existed. If I am to go about fixing an issue I can't fix on my own I will go to the source itself meaning Apple's programmers and developers - being UI UX Developer myself I know they should have QA'd all platforms and troubleshooted any arising issues.
This was also the first time in the 20 years I've been using a Mac that I even attempted to go on this forum which i thought would put me in connection with a certified Apple representative.  This turned out to be a complete waste of time just being a public forum with no Apple employee involved.  I was hoping to find a quick fix but in turn I was only frustrated with stupid responses such as yours that were in no way an answer to my original question.
BTW I fixed the issue on my own and without your help or Apples help. I'm glad if all forums point here regarding this issue because I now have the answer. The answer I was looking for from someone earlier was as simple as this {Download Maverick and reinstall the platform - it will take an hour to do but afterward 10.9.2 was installed and my computer is now able to shutdown and restart without having to do a hard boot.}  No more software update bar at top and no problems with my drive which I told both you and Grant - I know my computer better than you and I've probably been using them longer than you.
So again Babowa you were so wrong...... and I am right.
Again anyone having the same problem, I suggest reinstalling Maverick and you'll be suprised 10.9.2 will work fine.

  • Computer has not been the same since updating a few weeks ago

Updated my 4GB Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro to OS X Mavericks. My battery now last 2 hours per charge and every program runs slow. This is frustrating me to the point of defeat. I have no idea what I need to do to remedy this problem. I have a business to run. If Apple is not up to the task of fixing this problem it may be time to move on to another operating system.

    Hi MichelPM,

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
        1.    First check that all your settings are correct, that calendar syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
        2.    Make sure the calendars you are using are in your 'iCloud' account and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud account (you can do this by clicking/tapping the calendar button in the top left corner of the application ), non iCloud calendars will not sync.
        3.    If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your calendars are in the iCloud account, you might try unchecking calendar syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling calendar syncing settings.

  • What is the most recent update to iPhoto?  I have a note about 9.5 yet my macPro has 9.4.3 and says I am current.

What is the most recent update to iPhoto?  I am transferring my library from a remote drive to my macPro, using iPhoto library manager, and get a message that the pictures I am transferring are in iPhoto 9.5.  My computer has 9.4.3 and it says my software is up to date.

iPhoto 9.5.1 is the most recent iPhoto version. However, iPhoto 9.4.3 is the last iPhoto version for your OS X version. If you want to use iPhoto 9.5.1, you need to upgrade to OS X Mavericks. You can download it from the Mac App Store.
Make a backup of your files with Time Machine and check that your apps are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com

i just tried to install the 11.4 update (or whichever one is the most recent update as of 1/26/2014) and when it failed i tried to install manually and now whenever i try to use it, i get the following error: "The application has failed to start because MSVCR80.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." Right after i click ok i then get this error: "Itunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall Itunes. Error 7 (Windows error 126)." I tried to uninstall Itunes and then reinstall the 11.03 version but that didnt work either. I want to know if i copy all of the music in my itunes folder to an external without consolidating can i still transfer all my itunes music from my current windows xp pc to a brand new one and have my current itunes library in my new pc? Basically i just want to know 3 things: What exactly does consolidating the itunes library do? Can i copy, paste, and transfer my itunes library to an external and from there to a new pc? Will i be able to transfer my itunes library without consolidating the files?

I have found a temporary solution, allowing the previous version of iTunes (v. 11.1.3 (x64) in my case) to be re-installed.  It will allow you to re-establish use of iTunes until the Apple software engineers fix the most recent disasterous upgrade (v. 11.1.4).  Please see and follow the procedure in the following article:http://smallbusiness.chron.com/reverting-previous-version-itunes-32590.html   The previous version works beautifully.

my iphone 5 has restored to an old backup after updating to ios 7 is there any way of getting my stuff back as this has now become the most recent back up?
also since the update it keeps resetting itself? i had a lot of stuff on there that i really wanted and alot of important info lost? please help!!

You might be able to remove the recent backup from the backups folder and the old one should be usable at that point
USE EXTREAME CAUTION WHEN ACCESS THE FILES AND DO NOT DELETE ANYTHING
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
Note: The "~" represents your Home folder. If you don't see Library in your home folder, Option-click the Go menu.
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: To quickly access the Application Data folder, click Start, and choose Run. Type %appdata% and click OK.
    Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

Hello I have a iPhone 4 that's never been updated and I see there are three available, Should I just go with the most recent update ?

You don't get a choice. If you decide to update, your phone will be updated to the latest iOS version available for your phone. For you, that's iOS 7.0.4.
Make sure you follow the directions here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4972
The update to iOS 5.0 & higher is an erase/restore deal.

  • The most recent update erased all of my bookmarks. I tried the steps to find them and they are gone. This is not the first time this has happened and it extremely disuptive.

the most recent update resulted in a loss of ALL of my bookmarks. This is not the first time this has happened and it is very disruptive. I tried the steps suggested to find the bookmarks but that failed.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

My computer is extremely slow, with the rainbow wheel appearing with every click. It is one year old, and has all the most recent updates. Why is it so painfully slow?

That sounds horrible. There are a number of reasons it could occur.
The first thing to do is ensure you have adequate backups, because what you describe can be a symptom of impending disk failure.
To help determine the possible causes of this behaviour read the following. None of what follows is intended to fix anything, but it will provide the additional information required to advance troubleshooting. There are four separate parts to it; read everything first.
Boot OS X Recovery by holding ⌘ and r (two fingers) while you start your Mac. At the Mac OS X Utilities screen, select Disk Utility. Select your startup volume (usually named "Macintosh HD") and click the Repair Disk button. Describe any errors it reports in red. If Disk Utility reports "The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK" in green then you can be reasonably (though not completely) assured your hard disk is in good working order.
When it finishes restart your Mac and test again for operation. If it's still not behaving as you expect it should, please post the results of EtreCheck in accordance with the following instructions:
Apple Support Communities contributor etresoft wrote a very useful app to quickly gather certain system information that may help point to a cause of this problem. Read about it here. It contains a link to download EtreCheck. Don't download it from anywhere else (such as may be found by following the results of an Internet search).
Click Open - etresoft contributes to this forum frequently and can be considered a trustworthy developer.
It will take a moment to run as it collects its data.
Copy and paste its output in a reply.
Do not be concerned about anything that says "Problem" or “failed” or anything else that may appear in red.
EtreCheck was designed to remove any personal information (such as your computer's name and serial numbers) but if you see anything that looks like an email address or any other personal information that should not be divulged to others, please delete or obscure that information when you post the reply.
When you are finished with EtreCheck, quit the program. It occupies very little space, and you can keep it or drag it to the Trash as you wish.
After completing the above please determine if the problems also occur in "Safe Mode":
Safe Mode or "Safe Boot" is a troubleshooting mode that bypasses all third party system extensions and loads only required system components. Read about it: Starting up in Safe Mode
You must disable FileVault before you can start your Mac in Safe Mode.
Starting your Mac in Safe Mode will take longer than usual, graphics will not render smoothly, audio is disabled on some Macs, and some programs (iTunes for example) may not work at all.
Merely starting your Mac in Safe Mode is not intended to resolve the problem, it's to observe its performance without certain additional components.
To end Safe Mode restart your Mac normally. Shutdown will take longer as well.
System performance problems for reasons that cannot be isolated to any other cause justify an SMC reset. Be sure to read the procedure carefully and follow all the steps exactly as written, even if they seem inapplicable or trivial.

  • How many Mac Mini's sold? and what has been the most popular Mac?

How many Mac Mini's sold? and what has been the most popular Mac? Curious, Bill

If you visit Apple's PR Library, you can find the quarterly sales results posted. Each one has a PDF you can download that includes a summary of Macs sold. The most recent one, from April 19, 2006, includes a PDF ("Data Summary" at the top of the press release) that only breaks down the Macs sold into "desktop" and "portable" computers. There's no way to distinguish between iMacs, G5 towers, Xserves and Mac minis in the desktop category. Older press releases like that (for example, the April, 2005 release) break down the desktops into iMacs and PowerMacs, but the iMac group includes the Mac minis and eMacs so it's still not possible to figure out exactly how many Mac minis were sold.
So, unless Apple releases the numbers separately, I'm not sure it's possible to answer your question.

  • The most recent update to IOS 6.0.1 Eliminated My View of Google Calendars in the Calendar List in my IPAD

Since I primarily use Google Calendars, I need to see my Gcalendars on my IPad and could until I added the most recent update of IOS6.0.1 and now they are gone.  I was told by Apple sales people when converting to Apple products IPHONE, MACBOOK PRO and IPAD that they were competely compatible with Google calendars, contacts and mail.  It seems there is a push to force people to use ICloud which I for many reasons won't use.  Primarily, I have eight calendars in my Google account that I need to see on my IPAD and IPHONe for business.  Why would this not be available to google users anymore?  Also not being able to invite attendees when creating calendar events is also very limiting. Come On Apple, give people free access to their information from all their devices.

LOL! - you poor bugger, Ognyan!
I'm starting to serihously think this phone has been jailbroken... I've got a senior technical support advisor at Apple who is working on the case. He has gone through everything he can possibly think of, but won't take "no" for an answer.
At the moment, he has logged everything with the Engineering Department, who is going to look into it further using the IMEI number and see what they come up with. If worse comes to worse, Apple will apparently replace the phone for a fee. The problem is that it is 800+ days out of warranty...
Anyway, we'll see how we go. If anybody has got any ideas about this, please continue to provide answers. I appreciate all responses
