Has Podcast "Update Podcast" as a contextual menu item been moved?

Has "Update Podcast" been moved down the 'right click list'? I've recently found myself hitting "Mark as Played" when I'm intending to update the available files and I'm pretty sure I'm not going crazy or senile, but it's completely screwed up my podcasts.

an89ag I know what you mean… I have nine TEDTalks video Podcasts that I downloaded from the TEDTalks' web site that, when added to iTunes, show up as Movies instead of Podcasts. From the iTunes "Get Info" they are identical to the TEDTalks Podcasts I downloaded from iTMS. These are episodes that are unavailable via iTMS, either because they were never made available or they have since been deleted.
Not all of the video Podcasts I downloaded from TED do this. iTunes and iTMS recognized about five of them, duplicated the other fifty (which was a whole other problem!) and that leaves the nine orphans that I cannot get added properly to the Podcast Library.
Apparently there is an invisible tag that iTunes reads that indicates what kind of file it is and where it is supposed to go. It isn't iTunes fault if the maker of the Podcast tags it wrong, but it would be nice to have the option in iTunes to correct these hidden tags.
Anyone have a solution for correcting the hidden tags? … Besides Lostify and vID_Infiltr8, which do not have the Podcast stik.

  • Accidently removed "Contextual Menu Item" from /Library

    Hello
I was testing an application called iTrash during which it seems like i have deleted the "Contextual Menu Items " folder as its no longer present and i can no longer right-click anywhere on my Snow Leopard. I don't have any backups. Can someone tell me how i can recover that folder or if i can download the files needed to have in that folder (just the original ones) to regain the Right-click again?
Trash is empty so i can't recover from there. Can someone please help

Normally, that folder's empty. Just recreate it. However, it has nothing to do with right-clicking and getting contextual items. Something else is amiss. Check System Preferences->Mouse and ensure that you haven't disabled the right click. BTW, there isn't any Archive & Install in Snow Leopard, just install.

  • Contextual menu items remain after Bitcasa removal - why?

    Hello there.
I'm looking for a solution of Bitcasa context menu items that won't go away. After removing the app they still appear in the Finder context menus. I already searched the usual places like Keyboard Shortcuts, Services, etc. but couldn't find any entry that explains why it is still there.
Anyone got an idea why I can't remove it?

Okay. You got me on the wrong foot there. Sorry for being touchy.
I contacted the Bitcasa support and did everything they wrote on their support pages and more. I even got terminal commands from them to remove everything Bitcasa manually:
    sudo rm -rf /Applications/Bitcasa.app
    rm -f ~/Library/Preferences/com.bitcasa.*
    rm -f ~/Library/Preferences/com.Bitcasa.*
    rm -f /Users/*/Library/Preferences/com.bitcasa.*
    rm -f /Users/*/Library/Preferences/com.Bitcasa.*
    rm -rf ~/Library/Caches/com.bitcasa.*
    rm -r ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.bitcasa.Bitcasa.plist
    rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/com.bitcasa.*
The problem seems to be that I actually removed everything identifiable as part of Bitcasa code. And that's the only reason I cant't get rid of this darn menu. I'm not a programmer but I usually know my way around when it comes to apps. What puzzles me is the fact that there seems to no source for this contextual menu item.
    Is that even possible?

  • Setting default browser for Mail's contextual menu items

I use Firefox as my default browser. In "Safari>General>Default Web Browser" I have it set to Firefox and URL links within Mail trigger Firefox as expected.
However, if I right-click within an email message on some text and select 'Search in Google' it opens in Safari regardless of the default browser indicated in the Safari preferences.
Anybody know how to fix this? It's very annoying.
    Dual 2.0 GHz G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hello,
I have been searching for the cause of this failure, but have not found much. It may relate to some problems with Contextual Menu Items, discussed within the article at the link below, but I do not know for sure:
    http://www.macdevcenter.com/pub/a/mac/2004/05/28/cm_pt1.html
and may relate to some incompleteness in Firefox, rather than OSX, per se. The contextual menu items are separate from the default preferences, I believe.
Btw, while I like some aspects of a Google search with Firefox, the fact that PDF links are downloaded, rather than opened in the browser, make me prefer Safari for searches. Perhaps there is a preference to cure this problem, but I have not looked very hard for it.

  • MIssing Contextual menu Items Folder?

    Which one exactly?
Is it actually missing, like not in one of these...

    Or just not usable/selectable?

  • Folder action contextual menu item in Finder

    hi,
I remember that when I first got my mac, the contextual menu in Finder would also include an item related to Folder Actions (don't remember the exact wording now). However, at some point of time, when I didn't find folder actions to be really useful to me, I think I must have made some change somewhere, and now the said item doesn't appear in the contextual menu anymore.
Though I do run Folder Action Setup.app and have set up actions for some specific folders, I would rather want this contextual menu item back, so that I can directly enable Folder Actions in/for a folder w/o having to invoke the setup.app.
    Hope someone can help out.

If the 'FolderActionsMenu.plugin' is not in the /System/Library/Contextual Menu Items folder you can download a copy here.
    <http://tomx.890m.com/FolderActionsMenu.dmg>
If that's the case, after you install the plugin Repair Disk Permissions with your Disk Utility and Restart.
    Good luck,
    Tom

  • How do I remove "Scan with ClamXav" in Lion? I cannot find a contextual menu item folder in at home/library.

How do I remove "Scan with ClamXav" in Lion? I cannot find a contextual menu item folder in at home/library. I installed and removed ClamXav from the Mac app store.
    Thanks.

    ToBeHuman wrote:
Thanks! AppTrap mentioned in the linked article got rid of it for me.
Actually, it didn't. With Snow Leopard and Lion, the contextual menu is provided by a built in "service" within the ClamXav application itself.
If you downloaded ClamXav from the AppStore, all you need to do is trash it and reboot.
If you downloaded the full version from the web you need to first run the "ClamAV Engine REMOVER" script that comes on the ClamXav_2.x.x.dmg. Then trash the ClamXav application, empty the trash and reboot.
There are also one or two preferences that can be found in ~/Library/Preferences/ that start with "uk.co.markallen.clamxav..." that take up minimal space and don't do anything without the application. AppTrap probably found those.

  • Merging two or more audio files, by a contextual menu item within the finder

    Hello, everyone,
I want to merge or concatenate two or more simple audio files (wavs at the same sample rate and bit depth) into a new wav file - which don't need any conversion. I want to do this using a contextual menu service within the finder. Is there any possibility to do this? I can't find any software in the market that will allow me to do this.
    so that,
    'start.end_1.wav' + 'start.end_2.wav' + 'start.end_3.wav' = 'start.end_1&start.end_2&start.end_3.wav'
Can anyone help? would sox help me with this, and if so, how to add it onto a finder contextual menu?

Both of those directories are empty and I have deleted them and re-created them. I have been able to add and remove plugins for other applications so this is very strange.
Using "Easy Find" I did locate a preference file, which I have deleted but that has not resolved it. I have tried safe mode and single user mode but no luck. I couldn't find any automator actions either.
When I click on the menu item it says "ClamXav is not installed. Please install ClamXav and try again" so it knows it needs to use this program somehow.
It's very odd and must be a result of a crash I had, though I would love to get to the bottom of it, it isn't serious and will hopefully go when I upgrade to Snow Leopard
Thanks for your help though as it has taught me a few things!

  • Contextual menu items

    Hi,
I have iMac with most recent version of Mac OS X (Lion).  I am looking to see if there is a 3rd party program to modify the contextual menu(when you right click) to provide additonal functionality.
Does anyone have a utility to do this?
Thanks and I look forward to  your reply.

This might help with some information you need to write your own services. It is written for Snow Leopard but the process should work for Lion as well http://www.atpm.com/16.01/services.shtml

  • Duplicated contextual menu items

When I use control-mousedown in the finder to bring up a contextual menu, the "Other" sub-menu contains unwanted items that I rarely use, such as "Enable Folder Actions". Worse, some of these appear three times. How do I get rid of them?
I have searched the web exhaustively for a solution to this problem. I have rebuilt the Launch Services Database using Onyx, and I have removed scripts from StartupDisc/Library/Scripts/Folder Actions. But the problem persists.
I recently moved from OS 10.4 to 10.5.8 using erase and install, and all my system software is up to date.

    Welcome to Apple Community Discussions.
Launch /Utilities/Terminal and copy & paste this at the command line to rebuild LaunchServices:
    Code:
    <pre class="alt2" style="margin:0px; padding:3px; border:1px inset; width:640px; height:34px; overflow:auto">/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchSe rvices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user</pre>
Then press return. Wait until terminal returns to the command line. Quit Terminal. After that, log out and back in or restart. Let us know

  • Send to..Contextual Menu Item

So I am a new convert from MAC from the windows world and I live and breath my right click context menus. Well one thing I have notice is missing is a Send to option. I am soo use to using Finder and right clicking on the item and going to send.
Am I missing something, I cant believe something as simple as this would be missed by a major operating system.

You can create such contextual menu using automator.
Open automator and make a workflow consisting of two actions
    1. Get selected finder items
    2. New mail message
Save this workflow as a Finder plugin. Call it "Send to" or something
It will show up in the nested contextual menu "more->automator->Send to".
The problem with this is that it's not terribly fast. Also, personally, I HATE the fact that user created contextual menus are so deeply nested in leopard. They were much easier to get to in Tiger. This is definitely one "new feature" we could do without.

  • Can't remove old contextual menu item after uninstall on package...

Had PhoneValet installed with PhoneValet Anywhere. Support ended prior to Lion. I have run the un-installer and everything seems to be gone except two entries in the contexutal menu. When I'm in Contacts and click on a phone number I get: "PhoneValet Anywhere:Dial" and  "PhoneValet Anywhere:Dial Exactly".
If I select either choice I get prompted to porvide a location for the missing app.
These menu choices are NOT listed in the System Prefs->Keyboar->Services list.
I tried rebuilding the servers db and it did not remove the entries.
I'm assuming they are residual text strings in a file but I don't know where to look to remove them.
OSX ia 10.8.5. I have searched the support forums and tried various suggestions but no success.
    Any help?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}' | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. If the command produced no output, the window will be empty. Post the contents of the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window), if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. You can then close the TextEdit window. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that. No typing is involved in this step.
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
    { sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix\.cron)|org\.(amav|apac|cups|isc|ntp|postf|x)/{print $3}'; echo; sudo defaults read com.apple.loginwindow LoginHook; echo; sudo crontab -l; } 2> /dev/null | open -ef
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
    Step 3
    { launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}'; echo; crontab -l 2> /dev/null; } | open -ef
    Step 4
    ls -A /e*/{cr,la,mach}* {,/}Lib*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts .la* 2> /dev/null | open -ef
Important: If you formerly synchronized with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
    Step 5
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of login items' | open -ef
Remember, steps 1-5 are all copy-and-paste — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
    You can then quit Terminal.

  • Top level Contextual Menu Items

    Hi!
I installed OnMyCommand which works well but I was wondering if anyone knew if it were possible to move the commands you create so they are on the top level of the right click finder context menu (rather than having to go to "more" then to my OnMyCommand).
    Thanks in advance.

Yes, if you open the command editor, OMCEdit, you will see a list of your installed commands in the sidebar. Click on the command you'd like to move and choose the level in the "Location" field.

(By the way, the OMC companion app "Shortcuts" is a terrific CM plugins hot keys manager :))

  • ITunes doesn't work after update now! Says music files have been moved, would I like to locate them, then everything freezes.

I need some help! I've spent hundreds of dollars on iTunes music and suddenly every time I click the "play" button the entire service just freezes and stops responding. The only way I can even get to a play button that doesn't freeze is through the iTunes store. But at that point when I click "play", it tells me the song can't be played because the file isn't in its original location. It asks me if I'd like to locate it, and if I click yes, it brings me to a screen that I can't do anything with. Nice update. It was just fine until now. What can I do to get my music back???

"She says it doesn't work because the iPod is too old and Apple doesn't suport it any more."
    She is wrong.
Since you do not mention what happens when you try it is hard to help.
The sync is one way - computer to ipod.  The only exception is itunes purchases:  File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
Everything on the ipod came from your computer in the first place.  It should still be there and you should always have a backup copy.

  • Contextual menu

Is there anyway to make the contextual menu item "search in google" give the result in a new tab/or window?
    Dual 2 ghz G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I am using several add-ons to Safari.
Safari Extender offers many tab related features via the contextual menu, including "Search in a new tab". This includes access to a number of search engines, including Google, Yahoo, Wikipedia and MSN.
[url=http://www.pozytron.com/acidsearch[AcidSearch[/url] is a great alternative to the standard Google, offering access to many search engines. Here, if I highlight text, then right click, a contextual menu item appears. If I hold down the "command (apple)" key, the Acid Search option changes to "Acid Search new tab".
If you decide to try Acid Search, post back if you need direction about its installation. The site also has guidance about how to install the plug-in.
